Snow Leopard OSX Support Status

Attention Line 6 USB audio interface/device users: Mac OSX 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) is currently not supported by Line 6. We expect to be implementing support for Snow Leopard soon. This does NOT mean that you can't use Snow Leopard with Line 6 Software. Our driver developers have worked hard with Apple engineers to deliver you a new driver that will work with your Line 6 device. You can download driver 4.2.4 at http://line6.com/software/. This driver is considered a beta driver.

While you are free to try installing our software on this new operating system, we will not be guaranteeing issue-free operation on 10.6.x systems. Using Leopard OSX 10.5.x would be the recommended platform by Line 6 for Mac Users' productivity at this point in time. Some key points to be aware of:

1. If you are a current GuitarPort Online (GPO) subscriber and consider this to be your main priority in terms of software usage, we very strongly recommend that you NOT upgrade to Snow Leopard OSX. Functionality of GearBox software is NOT currently supported on Snow Leopard OSX.

2. If you do decide to upgrade your operating system to Snow Leopard OSX, at the very least be sure to install the latest Mac OSX Line 6 USB Device Driver (Version 4.2.4) AFTER the upgrade to 10.6.x has been made. 3. If you like to live on the bleeding edge, the latest version of Line 6 software and drivers will allow installation on Snow Leopard OSX. For these brave people, we've set up a User Group for Snow Leopard Discussion.

Here are a list of known issues Line 6 is aware of:

Driver version 4.1.0 or older WILL cause a Kernel Panic when your Line 6 USB Device is connected. Only use Driver 4.2.3 or newer with Snow Leopard OSX.
The latest GearBox Installer (3.70) includes a driver older than 4.1.0. Please install the latest Mac OSX Line 6 USB Driver after installing GearBox in order to avoid a Kernel Panic.
An error message can appear at the last Line 6 Driver Installation step.
In Line 6 Monkey, images appear corrupted when they are greyed out or if Monkey is running in the background.

AMD Turion X2 Laptop White Noise, Pops and Clicks Issue

We are actively pursuing the root cause of this and due to the fact that other manufacturer's devices are also having similar issues, it appears that the problem may be on the chipset side of things and not necessarily an issue with the USB device driver software.

Here are our findings so far in terms of things you can try:

1. Many end users have reported that using a USB 2.0 powered USB hub with these devices fixes the noise problem, despite the fact that we do NOT support the usage of USB hubs with our products. (If you fall into the realm of running on this specific AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile with Vista OS setup, then consider this to be an exception.).

2. Several end users have found that right-clicking on the Volume Control icon in the Vista System Tray (lower right-hand corner by the time clock) selecting the "Recording Devices" option to open the audio control properties window and leaving it open during audio streaming elminated a lot of the noise previously present.

3. A few users found that turning off the Indexing Service in Vista helped to minimize audio noise as explained in this video tutorial: http://line6.com/community/docs/DOC-1490

POD Farm DAW Compatibility

Line 6 generally tests with software Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) that are the latest and the last freely upgradeable versions. Line 6 does not test on 3rd party applications that are no longer supported by their own developers.

While we use a wide variety of 3rd party recording applications during our software testing, it is simply not possible to test POD Farm’s (or any other Line 6 software) compatibility with every DAW. We make every effort to be compatible with as many recording applications as is practical. Research performed by our internal Quality Assurance department, beta testers, and ultimately POD Farm users systematically help us to identify bugs and incompatibilities, and we continually strive to resolve these issues with incremental software releases and/or documentation in the form of release notes, online Knowledge Base items, and forum posts.

POD Farm plug-ins are developed to conform to the standards established for RTAS, VST and AU and should therefore be compatible with any DAW supporting any of these plug-in formats. It is important to note that not all implementation of those standards is equal – in other words some DAW manufacturers choose to support for these formats using non-standard implementation that third party plug-in developers may not be able to provide immediate support for. Again, user feedback is extremely valuable as we strive to provide the widest software compatibility possible.

Currently, we (Line 6) do not test any of our software on Tablet or Netbook style PC's. While it may be possible to get the hardware and software to work, we cannot guarantee that your Line 6 USB audio hardware device, software/drivers will function properly on these systems so at this point there is no support for Tablet or Netbook PC's.

Known Issues:

Automation will write in Logic / Garage Band, however when bouncing automation parameters are ignored.
When using DAW automation to change model types all model parameter settings revert to their default settings. Work around is to instantiate POD Farm on separate tracks for alternating amp/effect setups or automate all parameters after a automating a model change.
Loaded presets which include unauthorized cabinet models do not provide a graphic indication that the model is not active. The user must look at the drop down menu to know if the cabinet model is available or not. A user will never be able to create a preset (from scratch) which includes a model which is not owned. To avoid presets consisting unauthorized models, sort the preset browser’s metadata by “Own All Models”.
Jerky knob behavior in Digital Performer 6 when using the mouse to adjust parameters. Work around is to use a mouse wheel for knob adjustments.
Not all automation parameters are available in Ableton Live's automation menu. Ableton Live is designed to display 128 automation parameters.
Functionality may be limited in some hosts (Tracktion, Melodyne).
Any tones created or modified in POD Farm Stand Alone or Plugin prompt an error when attampting to load tone into Gearbox with any PODxt/XTL device.
POD Farm may not find previously installed GearBox presets by default. Clicking the refresh button in the "Presets" view will show the presets properly.
If you create a preset with an amp and then delete that amp and perform a "Save As", you'll notice the deleted amp is called out in the "Save Tone As" window. This is just a GUI issue and your preset has been saved with no amp.

Mac Exclusive:

Clicking on a tone icon will automatically launch Gearbox if it is also installed on your computer. You need to manually associate tones on your Mac to open using POD Farm. Right click or CTRL click on the icon and select "Open With."

Ableton Live Lite 7: Known Documentation Point Of Confusion (KB37 MIDI CC Mapping)

For those getting started with a POD Studio GX/UX1/UX2 device and following through the Ableton Live Lite 7 tutorial, there has been some inquiries of confusion regarding page 5/12 in the starting tutorial.

There is reference to the Line 6 Audio-MIDI Controller Mapping preferences menu page; if you continue reading down the tutorial, you'll see that this particular section refers to setting up a Line 6 KB37 (UX2 + MIDI keyboard controller) for Ableton MIDI CC mapping assignment. The POD Studio GX/UX1/UX2 is not a MIDI controller device whatsoever; the only two parameters that appear in the Audio-MIDI menu are for Footswitch 1 & 2 assignments only. The inclusion of this content is specific to KB37 owners wishing to try out Live Lite 7.

We apologize for any confusion in the documentation to POD Studio GX/UX1/UX2 new users.

Q: How do I activate my POD Farm iLok purchase?

A: After you purchase an iLok-compatible software product from the Line 6 Online Store, you must deposit the license authorization to your iLok.com account and then download the license key to your Pace iLok USB Smart Key by following these instructions.

Deposit

Create an iLok account. (If you already have an iLok account skip this step and proceed to the next step. An iLok account and a Pace iLok USB Smart Key are required to complete the activation process. If you do not already have a free iLok account please create one now at iLok.com. If you do not own an iLok device, you will need to purchase one from a retailer).
Deposit your license authorization to iLok account. Sign in to Line6.com with the same Line 6 account that was used during your online purchase, and start the deposit from the iLok deposits page on Line6.com by clicking “Deposit” next to one of the listed license authorizations. This sends the iLok License authorization from your line6.com account to your iLok.com account.
Download (Sync) your license to your iLok device. A deposited license becomes visible on iLok.com and can be downloaded into your iLok device by connecting the iLok device to your computer and clicking “Synchronize” from within your iLok account. Details are provided in your iLok.com account.

Transfers

Purchased iLok Licenses may be “moved” between two iLok devices that are registered in you iLok.com account. Purchased iLok Licenses may also be transferred from you iLok account to another iLok account. Move and Transfer instructions are provided on iLok.com. There may be a nominal fee assessed by iLok.com. Trial and other free iLok Licenses may not be moved or transferred.

Returns

As stated in the Line 6 Online Store Policy, we cannot accept returns of any purchase containing an iLok License authorization, because the iLok license keys are managed by a 3rd party. If you have experienced a billing or activation issue related to an iLok License purchase, please contact Line 6 Customer Service for assistance.

POD Farm: Upgrade Activation

If you qualify for the free POD Farm plug in upgrade (the Annual GPO subscription purchase with "free GearBox Plug-In" special offer does NOT apply), please see the steps below on how to activate.

1. Connect your Line 6 device to your ONLINE computer via USB. Launch the Line 6 Monkey software. Make sure that you have installed the latest drivers for your device through Line 6 Monkey.

2. If you qualify for the free upgrade Line 6 Monkey should immediately offer up the following message:

3. Click "OK" and then click on the "Activate Features" button located in near the bottom right corner of the screen.

4. Line 6 Monkey will establish a connection to our server and begin to program your hardware.

5. Once Line 6 Monkey is finished programming your hardware, it will alert you to unplug your device via USB for 5 seconds and then replug it back in.

6. You should now see a green circle with a white check mark inside it located near POD Farm in the list of activated packs. At this point, if you have not downloaded the POD Farm application from our website please do so at www.line6.com/software.

PLEASE NOTE: If Line 6 Monkey does not offer you the "Activate Features" button automatically then please do the following:

1. Navigate to the Optional Add Ons tab in Line 6 Monkey

2. Click on the "Activate Purchase" button

3. When the license key field opens up type the word "refresh" in the field WITHOUT THE QUOTES.

4. Press "Activate"

POD Farm Platinum: Product Definition

Before we get into defining "Platinum", it's important to know that POD Farm comes in two distinct flavors:

1. As a plug in tied to a Line 6 device OR

2. As a plug in tied to an iLok key

The difference between POD Farm and POD Farm Platinum, regardless of which type of device the license is tied to, is simply the number of amp, cab, and FX models available in the plug-in. POD Farm includes a limited number of models PLUS any models your Line 6 device contains from buying model packs, while POD Farm Platinum includes ALL Line6 models ever made to date. You may be asking "What does this mean"? Let's look at some examples:

If you have a POD XTL and you own all of the Line 6 model packs (Power Pack, Metal Shop, FX Junkie, Collector Classics, and the Bass Expansion Pack), then you will have an equivalent model set to what's included in POD Farm Platinum.

If you have a POD XTL loaded with only the Collectors Classic pack and you upgrade to POD Farm plug in, you will not have an equivalent model set to POD Farm Platinum, but the models from the Collector Classic Pack will be available in POD Farm.

If you have an POD X3 and you installed your free POD Farm plug in then you will have an equivalent model set to what's included in POD Farm Platinum. Why? Because the X3 devices come loaded with all of our models out of the box. The same goes for anyone who owns a TonePort DI Gold version.

Now, it's important to remember that the iLok version of POD Farm will come in two versions:

1. POD Farm for iLok (a limited amount of models included) OR

2. POD Farm Platinum for iLok (all models included)

Some questions about POD Farm plug-in for iLok:

Q: Can I transfer my POD Farm key out of my Line 6 device into an iLok?

A: Currently there is no way to transfer a POD Farm license from a Line 6 device to an iLok key.

Q: Can I upgrade my standard version of POD Farm for iLok to the Platinum version?

A: The iLok compatible versions of POD Farm are not yet available for purchase. When they are, there will be an upgrade path provided.

Q: How do I get the POD Farm Plug-in?

A: POD Farm is now a factory-enabled feature available free for POD X3, POD X3 Live, POD X3 Pro, TonePort DI, TonePort UX8, and all of the POD Studio computer interfaces. Be sure your Line 6 Monkey software is up-to-date, then launch it and press the Factory Features button.

If you purchased the GearBox plug-in as an Add-on from the Line 6 Online Store, then you may obtain POD Farm plug-in functionality at no charge (additional models not included) by running the Line 6 Monkey software utility, click Optional Add-Ons tab, click Activate Purchase button, then type refresh in the activation key window and click Activate button.

Q: I purchased the Gearbox plug-in. Am I entitled to a free upgrade to POD Farm?

A: Yes. POD Farm is available as a free download to everyone who owns the GearBox Plug-In including TonePort DI owners. POD Farm Plug-In will also be available for free to POD X3, POD X3 Live and POD X3 Pro owners.

Q: I received a free POD Farm plug in because I am an X3 owner. Is it possible for me to transfer the POD Farm plug in to another device?

A: No, the free upgrade to POD Farm for X3 owners is a factory bit that is bound to the X3 and cannot be transfered out.

Q: I received the Gearbox Plug-In as part of a promotion (Annual GPO Subscription Service). Am I entitled to a POD Farm Plug-in as well?

A: No, the free POD Farm upgrade does not apply to free Gearbox Plug-In promotional events (such as GuitarPort Online).

Q: I own an older GuitarPort/TonePort/XT device and never purchased the Gearbox plug in. How much will the POD Farm plug in cost for me?

A: Existing TonePort, GuitarPort and POD XT owners who do not own the GearBox plug-in will be able to purchase the POD Farm plug-in as a direct download for $49.99 at our online store.
