Man, that looks like a nice deal! Hand wired and good components, I think I may have to try it, too! For $50 it's not too bad.

It makes absolutely no difference. The channel volume exists only to level your volume between patches. Ideally, if you're trying to get the tubes cooking, it's all going to depend on having the master and channel high enough so that you're pushing the output, but yet not have the master so high that your channel volume is super loud even at 7:00.

What do you think is better then? tonewise, have a high channel volume and low master or low channel volume and high master?

To be more clear, what you have described is essentially setting up your SV as a non-master volume amp. So in effect, you'll drive the power section harder as you turn the channel volume up.

The answer is no. You are not driving the power tubes harder because you are limiting what gets sent to the power section by lowering the channel volume. It's not functioning like an attenuator.
