Thanks for the tip. I searched the Cakewalk site and found this Line 6 setup guide for Sonar:

http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/hardwaresetup/asio.asp?man=Line%20%6

Line 6 Audio Interface setup for Cakewalk software

Click Options | Audio | Advanced. Set your Driver Mode to ASIO. If you do not see Driver Mode, make sure the box next to “Always use mme interface” is NOT checked. Click OK and restart the program.

Next, Click Options | Audio:

On the Drivers tab:

Make sure your Line 6 card is selected under both inputs and outputs. If it appears grayed out, deselect all drivers, in both inputs and outputs, then select your Line 6 card. If changes are made, click OK and restart the program.

NOTE: Line 6 also provides very reliable WDM drivers. If you experience problems in ASIO Driver Mode, you may want to consider using WDM as an alternative.

On the general tab:

Make sure one of your Line 6 card drivers is selected as Playback Timing master. Click OK. Restart the program if prompted.

Finally, all audio playback will occur from the Line 6 device itself. Make sure you have your speakers or headphones connected to its outputs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, I played around with Sonar and figured out how to hear the MIDI through the Toneport. MS Wavetable has to be selected as the MIDI output and the Toneport has to be selected for everything else; the MIDI will be heard throught the Toneport headphones.

Thanks for the help!

MIDI is not audio and does not make a sound unless the MIDI information is triggering other sounds or samples that you assign to the MIDI. You will need to go over Sonar's documentation for further information on using MIDI to trigger sounds.

Regards,

Line6Hugo

The UX1 doesn't support MIDI at all. So you'll either have to use a VSTi for MIDI playback or get a separate MIDI interface.

If you want to play MIDI through your UX1, you'll have to connect a MIDI sound module to the MIDI out on the UX1. But hardware sound modules are really expensive, so you might be better off using a software module with Sonar and just leaving the UX1 out of the loop. Sonar comes bundled with several VSTi's. But I've never used them, so I don't know if they're any good.

In any case, this is really a Sonar question, so you might have more luck asking for help on their forum.

MIDI playback on Sonar 8PE/Toneport UX1/Win Vista x64

How do I set up my Toneport UX-1 in Cakewalk Sonar 8 PE? I installed the UX-1 with the latest PODFarm before installing the DAW and I changed the driver in CW to ASIO. When I tried to play a MIDI track, there was silence and I assume that is because the Toneport doesn't have soundfonts? The UX-1 is the only option listed in CW as a soundcard. How do I set it up to play MIDI tracks (maybe through the UX-1 via the built-in soundcard)? It plays MIDI wonderfully through GuitarPro 5, so there must be a way! Can anyone point me to (or write me) a proper soundcard/UX-1 setup for Sonar 8?

I'm using 64-bit Vista Home Premium on a Dell Studio 17 laptop. Audio drivers are IDT High Definition Audio Codec and Intel High Definition Audio HDMI. Please help!
