Just Cracked My SV HD100 Open (Job Done Have Pics)

I'm installing mini switches on the front of the amp to access the 4 Push modes for the SVpre. While I have it open, I realized that I have a EH 12AX7 tube sitting around. The same one that came with the SVpre, I'm replacing the V1 preamp tube with it. Also I'm going to replace the LEDs. I'd love to make the faceplace glow purple which is my favorite color, but I think red would look better.

I play in a Punk/Hardcore band and have played through L6 gear for over 9 years. I bought a L6 spider when they first came out and no one even knew who they were, but everyone was amazed at the sound of this 75 watt 1x12 "monster of tone" and I was in a jam band, then L6 started getting bigger(more people found out what they were missing for the $). The next prodject I started was heavy and I needed a half stack so I bought the spider2 hd150 and a Laney cab from my friend, still before we played everyone wanted to know how the L6 was and they were loving my amp after they heard it, but also saying how hard they found it to get that head to sound good in the store. It just takes some tweaking like any amp.Then in early 2008 I bought the svhd100 and I was amazed( I even bought the head with out even playing through one)and dont get me wrong the L6 is a modeling amp, but it moddels the best amps in the buisness, not exactly but most people will not notice much of a diffrence. now I have recently bought a Bogner Uberschall ( search for the perfect tone) and it is an amazing amp, but my SV HD100 is still a great amp. Basicly what I'm trying to say is L6 is great gear, and not everyone can afford $1600+ for a tube head. And the people who can great, but dont knock theL6 users for tryning to get the tones that only a hand full of people can even purchase. so if you use L6 dont be ashamed be proud that you can get the tones that you need with out breaking the bank. It could be worse, you could be playing through a crate or some other pos!!!

PS next time someone says L6 sucks look at what they are using and listen to there sound, you'll be suprised how good L6 is. listen to the tracks on my bands page and tell me L6 is no good

Locking tuners for Variax 700 electric?

Hi everybody!

I'm very happy with my new Variax 700. Great guitar, beautifully crafted, great set up, right out of the box!

The Gotoh tuners are ok really, but however I do have little tuning problems when using the tremolo a bit more violent.

I wondered if it would make a difference to replace the stock tuners with locking tuners from, for instance, Schaller.

And what would be the best fitting model/brand, in regards to the screwholes and such.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'd like anyone who is having issues with pops and clicks with these sepcific processors and our drivers to please post on this thread EXACT computer specs and a concise and detailed recipe of how you are able to reproduce these pops and clicks.

I've been streaming music now on an HP DV9 laptop with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor on Vista Home Basic 32 bit now for about an hour without one pop, click or CPU spike. Help me reproduce this so I can help you guys get up and running! Thanks.

Sound Squeak when using pedal as volume or wah

Since the first day getting my podx3 live [bout a month ago], i hear some kinda squeak or long overtone of some sort when i rock the pedal back and forth when im not playing anything.

I read a question about a squeak but it sounded like it was coming from the user's pedal and not from the sound single from the pod.

Would like to hear some answers =]

Pod X3 Live blank screen and no sound

I went to my gig last night and my Pod X3 Live started with a blank lit up screen and no sound. All other buttons lit up correctly, could change patches/banks, tap tempo etc, but a full blank screen and no sound.

I thought it could be adapter problem so I used the Line 6 adapter of the other guitarist in the band, but nth changed.

I tried to start the unit in safe mode, it apparently started in Safe Mode (no other pedals lit up this time), but since the screen remained blank I could do NTH!!! So I had to play the whole pop/rock band gig with a guitar directly into PA as the lead player of the band. If you play one gig like that, you'll know what I suffered!

When I got home, I connected X3 to my PC and Monkey recognizes the device, so does Gearbox. I can change the patches in Gearbox, but still no sound.

And what is more funny Monkey doesn't show the firmware info and the driver details in its "update" page.

I tried to record into Ableton Live. There is such an extremely low level and distorted sound. It is clear that the device can change patches, I could hear it after I normalized the recorded tracks.

I also tried reinstalling the Monkey and the device drivers, but nth changed.

So this is my 3rd Line 6 Device that leaves me in frustration in the middle of gig on stage. I experienced the same with my Variax 700 guitar and also with my bass, both with the very common "suddenly some strings go softer or even silent than the others" problem.

So how angry should I be and what is your solution to my Pod X3L problem?

Recording using POD X3 Live?

I recently bought a POD X3 Live and found about the USB audio drop out problem. So, I need tips on alternative ways to record using a computer, knowing that I use POD Farm Plug-in in Ableton Live. The M9 user interface - Line 6 missed the mark

I find that the single LCD on the M9 makes for a very limiting user interface. You've gotta have a damn good memory to essentially memorize what you've placed in any of six slots in six, or even worse 24, different scenes because the M9 does virtually nothing to help you know what's where ("Hmm, is that blue light in the top row of the second slot of scene 4 a flanger or a chorus? And which delay is that green light?" - this is not an easy decision process in the middle of a gig when someone calls a tune, or even in the middle of a song). I like my M9 and I've decided to keep it, but this limitation was almost a deal breaker for me.

To be honest, I think the user interface is a fundamental design flaw of both the M9 and M13. I mean come on, an LCD that displays a small black font on a blue background for crying out loud? Figure that the average player is nearly six feet away from that display or more if you're leaning back or whatever, and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to realize that it's going to be hard to read. To me, Line 6 has designed a performance-based product that has a UI more suited to desktop use. What other pro-level, floor-based unit has such a tiny and unreadable display?

I think Line 6 should have incorporated either a second, easy to read LED display (too late for that, obviously) or they should somehow configure the existing LCD/LCD's to display a larger font on a lighter backround. Maybe a user-definable scene name that scrolls in the window or something like that. With the M9's single LCD this is particularly important.

Crackling in monitors, using Toneport UX1

I've tried the recommendations that have already been posted, including optimizing my computer settings, downloading the latest drivers and software versions, and trying different settings for buffer size, bitrate, and so on. I've checked all the hardware (monitors are brand new, cables are new/not damaged). My computer should be plenty fast enough (and when I'm not using monitors, it handles the recording software fine, with processing and memory to spare). So I've kind of reached my wits end...I just spent a bunch of money on these monitors and I can't hear anything but crackling static.

Hardware:

Laptop (Windows Vista, 64bit, 2.10GHz, 4.0GB RAM)

Toneport UX1 (connected by USB 2.0)
M-Audio Studio Monitors (connected by two 1/4" cables to Output from Toneport)

Guitar or Amp (into 1/4" Instrument input on Toneport)

Hello,

I bought the line 6 pod farm for my boyfriend so he could record his music and burn it to a CD. When I went to Guitar Center, that is what I told them I was trying to do and they sold me the Line 6 Pod farm. And while he absolutely loves it and all that he can do with it, he still cannot seem to get it to actually record his playing to his computer in any format that can be shared or burned to a CD. Is he missing a step or is he missing some other system or program that is needed to actually be able to accomplish that part?

Hi,

I just recently installed Windows 7 64bit operating system, this is final retail version.

I have POD XT live and Pod farm, etc and I installed the POD XT live drivers and Line 6 Monkey. However, whenever I play back an audio, it has a crackling sound.

I don't know why this is happening. I also browsed the forum and tried some of the suggested work arounds but this issue isn't resolved.

Can you please tell me what I should do to resolve this crackling sound?

Also the LIne 6 Monkey doesn't show anything listed all under Updates. I installed the Line 6 Monkey 64bit version that is supposed to be compatible for Vista 64bit but that

didn't make any difference and the crackling sound is still there.

Using a Boss FV-500H pedal with the X3 Live

Was wondering how to calibrate this pedal when connecting it to the X3 Live. I connected it to the Pedal 2 Input as an expression pedal. The problem I'm having is the toe down position is minimum and the heel down position is maximum. How do I reverse this? Is this pedal compatible with the X3 Live?

My expression pedal has been giving me fits lately. During the last several performances (I play every weekend) it's been a guessing game with this thing. When I power up the unit it will perform as it always has in the past but lately after a short time the expression pedal will suddenly fail the result being full output of the particular patch down the line.. Sometimes if I power down and power back up the problem will go away but then reappear a short time later. It's unpredictable. Other times when I power up the expression pedal doesn't work at all, full volume. I've been running a cry baby down line to try to manage this but it very inconvenient and is certainly not what I want. I've read about recalibrating the pedal but that doesn't sound like thats the answer. The pedal does work SOMETIMES b ut only for a short time. Whats up?

No firmware/driver update for X3 Pro with Monkey

Hi,

I've just bought an X3 Pro, and wanted to update the drivers and firmware, both of which are at 1.00.

I have the latest version of Monkey installed, and it identfies my X3 Pro is connected. However, in the updates tab, the only thing that shows up is the Applications sub menu. No drivers/ firmware options to be seen (which can be seen in the updates tab when I switch devices to my XT Pro). So there is seemingly no way to update the firmware or drivers!

Any help very much appreciated.

Pops & clicks issue

i'm unlucky to experience the TonePort pops & clicks issue.

I've been said to start a new topic and post my pc's specs, so it could help.

So:

ASUS k50AB (notebook)

Windows XP SP3, 32-bit, slightly modified (just for the looks +few program installed, not important)

AMD ATHLON X2 QL-64 (2.10 GHz, 1MB cache)

4 GB RAM (Windows reads only 3,25 GB because it's an XP, still)

ATI Radeon 4570 (i doubt that's important, but whatever)

250 GB HDD

WiFi IEEE 802.11b/g/n
LAN 100 Mbps

So you can see i experience the common noise problem on Windows XP and having an Athlon, not Turion.

I've got TonePort UX1.

None of the solutions posted helped.

Please do something, i hope you guys will be able to fix this.

Spider Valve MKII Comms board

Hi guys.

I've tried asking Line6 this off the board, but I've got no response. which is fine. if the answer is 'yes it will work' then that means some of us wont upgrade our amps. but that's not my point.

I would like to by a SV MKII maybe a head, maybe a combo. I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I hear the SVPre is on its way for the MKII in a few months, so that's good news. but here's what I'm thinking.

I have an SV Pre and my SV12 is way out of warranty now anyway, and I have taken a look at the communications board in the amp before, and my feeling is that the FBV communications protocols are something similar to MIDI, but with a fundamental difference so that they're not compatible. BUT it would be silly of line6 to make the FBV protocol so different to MIDI that some kind of translator device couldn't sit in the back of the amp with FBV and MIDI on one board (as I guess it is in the MKII, as when you look at other amps with both like the vetta, the FBV and MIDI ports are next to each other) and then basically the amp's channel switching is controlled by FBV, and the MIDI signals are just translated in the amp in realtime.

So where am I going with this... well is communications board in the SV MKII (with FBV and MIDI on it) the same as the SV MKI board but with the added MIDI things and the MIDI to FBV translator?? If this is the case, and the actual connections from the board to the amp are identical in the SV MKI and MKII that would mean that some of us who will eventually own an SV MKI and an SV MKII could try to buy this board from a line6 service center and swap it out, thus giving us the ability to control both amps with out M13!!

obviously those of us who choose to control the amp with FBV pedals, can control both amps at the same time using space's fbv Y splitter (i guess... has anyone tested this with 2 SV's yet?) and then use the MIDI out on the SV MKII to perhaps change scenes on the M13 if thats possible.

anyone got any ideas about the comms board or the other info?

Flash Update on display

I have a problem with my POD X3Live.

I played 2 hours, pod was connected into computer via USB.

Next i turned off POD for 15min. Computer was still turned on.

When i turned on again, on the display showed first Line 6 Logo and next text "UPDATE FLASH".

When I update flash via Monkey on the display show text "UPDATE FLASH..."

But after restart POD X3 Live, this text is still on display .

Can you help me? Or i have to send my pod to repair?

Hello! I've had my variax 500 electric guitar a couple of years now and it has worked flawlessly until now. When I play barre chords with the lowest keynote on the a-string (for example a high E) the b-string and the g-string doesn't "agree" and i get that tremolo effect which occures when the guitar isn't in tune. However the guitar is perfectly tuned cause when checking the strings separately on those frets that are problematic they're in tune. And I tested to record when first playing on the b-string and then I dubbed that with playing on the g-string and it sounds perfect. It's only when they're played together at the same time it sounds out of tune. If i tune down the b-string just a little it dissapears, but then all other chords gets out of tune. As i've just had it in for intonation I know that that isn't the problem, and i've checked that all frets are in tune. My guess is that something is wrong with the technical part of the guitar, maybe the piezo mics are damaged or something in the "computer" of the guitar. I don't know what to do, I guess I need to get service, but when searching for a service center in sweden i get no results, why is that?

FBV shortboard malfunction

Yesterday I used my new Spider IV 150 w/ MK II shortboard with the band for the first time. I moved it from home, plugged it in and hooked up the shortboard. The amp worked and the board lit up but the volume pedal was on full and would not shut off in the heel down position. I was able to switch pre -sets but still no volume pedal. I procceded to use the gear without the pedal and after a while it started to work. Then the wah wah quit working. With the wah turned on both the green volume and the red wah light were lit, but the wah wah didn't function. After playing for a while I tried it again and it worked! I've got it set up again at home and everything seem to be fine. What happened? I bought this rig to try and simplify my gear set up but so far it's been a real headache. I confess that I'm not a techie and I may have bungled something but it was working fine at home ,and it's not as complicated as my Pod X3 Live pedal, which works fine...so far.

Also the FBV calibration steps that come with the downloaded Advanced Guide for the Spider amp don't do anything. I followed the directions to "power off the board, press and hold the 'D' footswitch while powering on the board'. There's supposed to be an LCD readout :Calibrate Pedal" but there isn't any such display . So I don't know if this thing is even "Calibrated". It seems to work fine, when it's working. Is it actually necessary to calibrate it?

M13 Power Problem

I pretty sure it's not my computer though, this is a very good cpu I have, a beast. I think it has more to do with the music recording software I'm using, Magix Music Maker 10. This is particularly cheap software, like 60 bucks 4 or 5 years ago. My friend gave it to me. It does alright and can use the plugins, gearbox or pod farm. When I have 7-9 tracks using the plugins its tough for my computer to keep things smooth, no hick ups etc. Is this gonna be a problem no matter what kind of recording software I use? Is there a limit to how many tracks can use the plugins at once before it freaks even the best computers out. I was thinking about getting Cakewalk Sonar software. Will this help? I record guitar, bass and vocals dry through the POD X3 live and use plugins in the mixer of Magix Music Maker to get things to sound best so I want to have pod plugins on lots of tracks if needed. Please can some one give me the rundown/technical specs on this? Thanks.

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same as me. L6 is an american company right? and I know that they build them in China to keep down the cost for everyone, and that helps out everyone. But my problem is the speaker choice. Don't get me wrong Celestion has made some very defining sounds, but are they realy the right choice for L6? I mean Eminence is made in the USA, so why does a USA based company use chinese crap? why not help out the Americans, and Besides that Eminence speakers sound much better than Celestions do anymore ( Probably that whole not made in England thing) take for example the Celestion V30 and compare them to a governor by Eminence ( just bear with me) I know they are not the "Same" eventhough they are compared against each-other. But the Governer is a WAY smother sound than a V30. And thae eminence V12 $69.00 retail kills a V30 what is it now $149? or in my opinion the K100 roughly the same priceas a V30. and for less than 1/2 the price ....RETAIL!!!! so wouldn't it be nice if Americans BOUGHT AMERICAN? I've been watching alot of the @hitty economy crap lately. So my question is Who else feals this way. I know there are some people who couldn't live with out a real Celestion speaker, but honestly are they still celestions?Eminence are made in the USA with ,and get this USA parts!!!!! When using it sometimes, the audio suddenly becomes choppy and distorted, almost at a rate of 1 'blip' per second. I restart the mac and everything is fine again until it happens. What is going on??

..i've got 2 tonebone pedals with high gain settings in the loop , configured 'pre' , and yet to get enough level , the return is at +20db -

the amp block is off , and i've got the eq set with mid cuts , to try and get the cleanest sound , going into the fx return of a marshall avt combo..

this works ok , but if i try to switch the amp block on , the levels all are way too low -

if i put the loop 'post' , then the comp/boost doesn't have nearly the desired effect..

i must be doing something wrong..

also there's alot of noise when the pedals are on - the gate seems to have little effect - shouldn't it be at the end of the chain?

lastly , the momentary display feature for the amp tone controls doesn't seem to be working at all , minor gripe , but still ??

any advice appreciated , thanx , cam..

This thread was started purely to direct people to the feature request page on this site which people are doing and that's great.

Whining and complaining doesn't achieve anything, so please don't drag down the intention of this thread with negativity.

There appears to be some misconceptions driving negative comments. Just because the POD X3 manages 2 tone paths doesn't mean it has 2 processors, it doesn't. If you open it up and peek inside you'll see just one Sharc processor in there. Also, with the improvements in the sound on the X3, Line 6 told us that the modelling was improved to take advantage of the processing power and the digital sample rate, this too would chew up a big chunk of processing power. The POD X3 has all the bass and vocal stuff in there already. It handles 8 tracks of digital data out the USB port at a high sample rate, more grunt gone on that too.

So, I am guessing that when the code cutters got hold of the hardware, they packed as much into the unit as the hardware could handle without leaving much room for any extras.

Where that leaves us is quite simple. We say thanks for making the POD X3 so much better than the PODxt, but if it's possible, could we see some of the new effects that have been developed for the M13 included in the POD X3?

It doesn't hurt to be polite. My parents taught me to say "please".

Well after a bit of work i realized this:

1) the M13 can work as a Midi Foot Controller

2) it works going on scene set up, at that point if u switch scene by scene than some other effect connected via midi change his preset till number 12

3) the limit it is u can have only 12 switch possibilities because at same time u can have only 12 scene viewable, u can change folder only going on knobs but in a live situation its not handable ofc, so the story of 48 scene its true only considering them as in studio use, (i have not understood how to change solder only going by foot switchs)

4) so if i have understood well i can use 12 scene at same time, selecting it the midi controller give at someother midi unit connected the right program till n.12 meantime u can arrange all the effects u want on the M13

Now a big tip for LINE6, please in the next firmware update create a way to control all the 48 scenes using the foot switches of M13 or create a new way to change folder.

Could be useful a function to go next, scene by scene and reverse.

I have been trying to download Line6 edit and Line6 Monkey, and I am way past frustrated. One of the main reasons I bought the Pod 2.0, was to go online and download custom tones. I can't even get the edit and monkey software to load...keeps asking me to make sure I am connected to the Internet because Java runtime environment needs to be installed, or to connect my Pod to my computer; I am, it is, but it won't.

...$200 for this Pod, and then I find out I have to buy a MIDI to USB cable in order to use it with my computer (seriously, how hard would it have been to have a freakin' USB port on the Pod 2.0? Should I really have to pay $300 for the Pod XT to have it. Come on, seriously???!!!). I'm a little annoyed until I find out the cable costs about 50 bucks, and "a little annoyed" turns into: really, really annoyed. I mean, come-on, 3 more cables and I could have bought another Pod 2.0!!

I've downloaded installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled edit, monkey, Java, and JRE a dozen times. I even completely reinstalled Windows XP on my computer to start fresh. NOTHING WORKS AND YOUR SUPPORT INSTRUCTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND INCOMPLETE!!!

Now, having said all this, I love the Pod 2.0 itself...great sounds. But can someone please help me GET THIS THING HOOKED UP AND TALKING TO MY PC BEFORE I GO COMPLETELY NUTTS?

Blue screen with POD Studio UX1

Recently i'm on Windows 7 (Ultimate Version) and now I've got 'Blue screens" showing the following Stop Message :

L6UX1.SYS Address 9237B0B1 base at 9236A000, DateStamp 4a53c2b9

The first times, bluescreens appear while I was listening MP3 ine Windows media player, then in Winamp. My UX1 is my default sound material.

I had the bluescreen a few times when watching Videos on MPC Home Cinema and another time whereas I do nothing on my computer.

The message on bluescreen is always the same and showing an UX1 conflict. I think it can be an incompatibility problem with Win 7 and UX1 Driver. When I was on Wondows XP, I never had such problem.

Direct Monitoring Problem

I am unable to enable "direct monitoring" in cubase. I have only acquired the PODFarm plugin recently so I didn't notice this before. This was happening under cubase 3 sx and now under 5. All steinberg has to say about it is the driver doesn't support it. This is highly frustrating! I have reinstalled all line6 software/drivers and the cubase 5 is a fresh install.

Any ideas?

After being let down by a lot of 19" fx units I would like to know if the M13 is ever going to go 19". I am a fan of the Pro Series Line 6 used to make. The M13 (M19 Pro could be a good name) could replace these. Is there any chance this is going to happen..? Line 6 has the good interface and sounds to make it work. It would make minced meat of a G-Major imho. And I would buy one to clean up my rack!

I think I may have an unwinnable situation here. I get alot of hum whenever I plug in my PODxt to my computer via usb.
I can alleviate these problems by

Removing power from the laptop and having it run on battery power alone (I've tried different outlets and different power strips)

Not using a tone setting with a lot of overdrive

unplug the usb (duh), but that makes recording slightly impossible (I think)

If I touch either pickup (humbucker) the hum goes away

I've done some reading, and appears as though this is a ground loop issue that there isn't a solution for (or one I found)
Granted I am on some heavy meds and my focus isn't the best.
Now this does not happen on all guitars equally

So, does anyone know how I can have my USB and eat it too?

UX1 MIC INPUT NOISE

My MIC entrance in my UX1 makes a lot of noise for itself, even if i have nothing plugged to it!!

Here are the printscreens (again, nothing plugged into MIC)... the noise is, as you can imagine, quite a lot, especially because the only way of hearing myself decenlty without licking the microfone is pushing up the gain up to almost 10dB.

0dB - 7dB - 8dB - 9dB - 10dB -

Please note the noise is independant from the setup i choose, it appears in the dry input as you can see. My guitar input works perfeclty, without any noise, wich makes this even stranger

In U2 'emulations' lots of people write to set a digital delay as a dotted eight note.

When using knob 2 I can set a numeric amount or a dotted note.

I cannot find a description of the symbol that represents the dotted eight.

Can anybody tell me what the notes represent in human language ?

I just received my TonePort DI-S from my GuitarPort bundle. I installed all of the software. I have the TonePort plugged in. I have a green light. I have re-installed drives more than once. I have restarted the computer more than once. I have switched USB port, computer front panel not a hub. I have all of the up to date Drivers, USB, Gear Box, etc.

I am getting no sound through my computer speakers from the Guitar. I see needles moving on Gear Box. I have twisted knobs, pushed buttons, tried combinations of things. I can hear the video tutorials played from the embedded browser at the bottom of gear box just fine.

I know there is something super simple that I am not seeing here. Why can't I hear my guitar played through my PC speakers?

Recording vids directly to PC using Mic or USB plug

Hey I was wondering if this question/issue has came up in the past. I am trying to record a vid for youtube using my POD x3 live by using the webcam software provided with my PC. When I record direct, (mic or USB connection), there seems to be an audio clipping/dropout/chopping going on. I have adjusted the recording volume and that has cured the clipping issue so it records the full spectrum of the sound but it hasnt fixed the other problem. The volume dips on the recorded track and does not stay consistent. I think I have found a way to circumnavigate this issue but its somewhat of a headache by recording the video on mute and recording the track on Audacity Beta 1.3 (which is an awesome software!!) and then using windows movie maker to combine the two to overlay the tracks. If you have any ideas on how to remove that step I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I have a problem with the connector in the guitar. The plastic that holds the jack to the body of the guitar cracked and broke, so the jack floats inside. Because of this, I think, everyonce in a while the guitar will cut out and will not be seen by the podxt. I unscrewed the connector on the guitar and tapped the jack where it was broke to help make it more solid. It worked great for a day and then it started cutting out again. Is there any way I can get hold of the jack and the little circuit board that it connects to? It's out of waranty and I'm technically inclined enough to replace these parts. Thanks

Upgrade not working properly

I have a podxt live which is 4yrs old now. The problem that i am facing is that when i upgraded its flash memory with the newer version, line6 edit showed me the added amps and all but the thing is the patches dont work properly anymore. The reverb and delay didnt work for any settings. So i again rollbacked my version and now the delay and reverb are working properly and line6 is showing the earlier no. of amps.

Pocket POD registered to my Account - Line6 Monkey says it is not.

I purchased a Pocket POD a few weeks ago. I have registered it to my account and it appears in my account correctly (see attached image: line6_registration_page.jpg Note: username in web account & Monkey the same; serial number blurred out intentionally). I used the Serial # from inside the battery compartment. When I launch Line 6 Monkey v1.31 and log into my account, it give me a dialog box stating, "It appears you have not registered your Pocket POD with your user account." (see attached image: line6_pocketmonkey.jpg). If I click "Register Now...", it takes me to my account page where it shows my device registered to my account. I followed your FAQ and ensured my serial number was in the form 'XXXNLNNNNNNNNNN'. I have tried the following with no success:

Logged out of Line 6 Monkey and log back in.
Waited 1 week to see if the serial number just needed time to associate.
Installed latest version of Line 6 Monkey on a different computer.
Deleted my registered device and re-registered it.

Current state of affairs: My device is currently registered to my account through the website, however Line 6 Monkey still shows it as unregistered.

Although the device is not registered it has allowed me to update to the latest firmware: 1.01, however I would like to ensure that my device is properly registered.

OS Info:

I have tried on 2 different machines running:

Windows Vista x86_32bit Professional and Ultimate.
Both are single boot systems.
The POD is recognized on both systems.
The Vyzex editor recognizes the device and I can control the POD through it.
Both machines are Intel Core 2 Duo, but running 32 bit versions of OS.
Both machines have 3 2.0 USB ports. I am connecting the POD directly to the computer.

UX8 turns on, cannot connect, and can't turn off

Hello,

I have a UX8 that suddenly stopped working, when i pluged a guitar in INST, port 1

What happened, is that the UX suddenly froze, some clip lights were on, others were dim red, it simply felt like my system was twitching.

So i tried to turn it off, but it didnt work.

I unpluged it and when I pluged it back in and turned it on, the clip lights were going form left to right ( the two clip lights next to the meters were not on nor were they flashing).

and i cannot turn it off, so I have to unplug it again..

I thought it was a tough piece of hardware..

Can anybody please tell me what has gone wrong?

Firmware Corrupted on Variax500?

I tried to install Workbench with my PODXT Live and Variax 500 connected. The installation failed and I then noticed that my XTLive had frozen. Unplugging the variax un-freezes the POD. Line Monkey also no longer sees the variax.

I posted a thread (11-04-2009) and tried all the advice with no success. As the axe was only a few weeks old and thus under guarentee I returned it to the Dealer for repair.

After three months at a 'Jack of all trades' repair facility ( No disrespect intended) that does Line6 repairs for the agent and dealer, I asked to have my ghit returned so that I can have a look at it myself (Retired Electronic Engineer). He told me that there were 4 more Variaxes that had been in for repairs for like forever.

He had them all recalled and I managed to repair them all in one day. 3 were as a result of simple bad connections, 1 had a short circuiting track on the rj-45 output assembly but sadly I could not repair my 500. Through a process of illimination with parts from another 500 I determined that the fault is definitely on the mainboard.

I have now found another thread from another person who encountered a similar problem after a failed upgrade using a PODXT Live and it turned out that the Variax fimware had been corrupted during said failed upgrade.

"This sounds a lot like what happened to me...ie I used the POD XT Live to update my Variax 500...it failed. My Variax couldn't be 'seen' after that. Line 6 UK now want at least £60 to reflash the little AM29LV200B IC on the mainboard"

As you must have gathered, No we don't have a bona fida, dedicated Line6 Service Centre in South Africa. Any Suggestions?

Monkey doesn't show Pocket POD 1.01 flash update

Hello,

I'm a customer from Germany and bought a Pocket POD back in December, 2007.

Today I read about the 1.01 flash upgrade for my Pocket POD and downloaded the Monkey software v1.31.

I connect my Pocket POD to the power adaptor first and after this connect it to my PC with the Line 6 USB cable, no other cables are connected to the POD.

The POD works fine with the Vyzex v1.17 software, so I launched the Monkey (after closing the Vyzex software). It connects to my Line 6 Account but shows "There are no updates available" :-(

The Pocket POD is registered within my account and the Monkey doesn't show any message about device registration either.

The POD shows "Version 1.00" at startup...

so your telling us that we have to use the pod farm or some audio software to hear the line inputs on the kb37? this again is misleading in your advertising. and if I use podfarm I am getting distortion on the line in even when I delete all amps and other devices from the podfarm audio chain. I also don't get a dry channel it still runs through the amps or whatever else is in the audio chain. also I am using the line 1 and 2 inputs, why am I getting audio on the 3 and 4? I am not using an spdif input????

VYZEX Editor Screen - Not able to see all items

The screen is fixed size and does not display all the tones in the list and it does not provide an in window scroll.

Is this standard as I am using it on a notebook. Are there any planned updates? Can you use gearbox with the pocket POD?

I installed Line 6 Edit version 3.02(which says "This version of Line 6 Edit is compatible with JRE 6") on a Windows 7 32bit PC. I also installed the Java environment JRE 6 Update 16.

I'm getting "Could not find valid Java runtime" error message when I launch Line 6 Edit.

Any idea on how i could resolve this issue?

I read the related discussions but I cannot find any solutions. The X3 Live still works fine with my G4 Mac (10.4.11) but I would like to solve the problem with my laptop. Variax 700 will not stay in tune?

I have a variax 700, I usually use slinky 9 / 42 strings and have my tremolo setup floating. I'm a college lecturer / recording engineer who has also set up guitars for over 20 years. The variax is a superb guitar in every way, apart from the most basic aspect........it will not stay in tune. I hope the guys at line 6 read this because it is staggering that such an amazing instrument has such a massive flaw. (the size of this massive flaw cannot be exagerated. A guitar which will not stay in tune is useless).

The problem only exists if the tremolo is set to float (the whole point of a great tremolo like the LR Baggs unit....and the whole point of buying a variax 700 as opposed to the much cheaper 300). After using the tremolo, the tuning will be raised or lowered.....it will not come back to the correct pitch....ever. If you dive bomb or even just dip the pitch of a note on any string.....on releasing the tremolo bar the guitar will be flat by up to -12 cents. If you pull back on the tremolo bar to raise a note and then release the bar, the tuning will be up to 12 cents sharp. An interesting point is if you tune the guitar and play without tremolo......perfect tuning. This means the problem is not the machine heads.

Many people on the forums have suggested to each other the following, but I think I have found the reason....and nobody is going to like the answer.

Lube the nut - This in reality is not a solution. A well crafted nut will not need lube. The 'bone' nut on the variax 700 is not bone...a synthetic bone substitute maybe, but not bone. I've seen other people describe it as chewing gum it is so soft.

File / reduce the depth of the nut - At 5 mm the string contact with the nut is too great. Using a file to reduce this contact area down to 2.5mm is a good idea.

Install a new nut - a Gibson type drop in from graphtech or an earvana nut (£35 option).

Install a set of locking machine heads - Reducing the winds on the tuning post to a half turn improves tuning stability (£60+ option).

Increase string tension - changing to a heavier set of strings eg from a set of 9s to 10s (£5 option).

Increase spring tension - making sure you use all 3 springs on the rear of the tremolo.

Cut the 'condoms' off the springs - Variax is the first guitar i have ever seen with these fitted to the springs. I would love to know why they are fitted (Health & safety?) as you cannot operate the tremolo at all with them on.

The first thing I had to do setup wise was cut the plastic 'condoms' off the springs in the tremolo as they do not allow the tremolo to operate (literally) without a horrible crunching sound and feel. I have shaped the nut.....no difference. Tried heavier strings and resetup the guitar.....no difference. I usually use a set of 9s with 2 springs on the tremolo, so i tried a set of 10s with both 2 springs and then 3 springs on the tremolo.....no diference.

The problem seems to be constant no matter what you do to fix it in the area of machine heads / nut / strings and springs. The problem lies with the electronic cables connecting the tremolo/piezos to the brain unit in the guitar. If you look at the back of the tremolo with the cover removed you will see a thin cable and a ribbon cable attached to the tremolo. These cables go around the tremolo unit and through a hole in the body of the guitar to the brain section PCB.

If you watch the back of the tremolo closely as you operate it through its full range, first one way and then the other, you will notice the unit never returns to it original position due to the resistance of the cables/electronics. The stiff cables are in contact with the tremolo.

This is a serious flaw in the design of the instrument. A smaller light weight / very flexible connection between the tremolo PCB and the Brain PCB, which stays close to the base plate of the tremolo (which moves a short distance) and out of the way of the block/springs (which move a great distance) is needed.

The result of trying to acheive tuning stability with the tremolo floating, would for the average guitarist result in an extra £100 minimum to the price of the instrument, plus around another £100 in repeated setups and fitting of parts. Only to realise it is never going to happen.

This is a major disapointment as I have been sold a product which is superb in one way (sounds) and totally useless in another (staying in tune)....It is not fit for it's purpose!

I would love a reply from line 6 on this as the 700 is a professional instrument at a price of around £1000. I think line 6 know about this problem. None of the videos demonstrating the instrument on the line 6 website have any use of the tremolo unit. It is probably the reason why the guitars come with the tremolo mounted flat against the body when you buy them.

I would also like to know the purpose of the spring condoms?.....was that a bodge to help tuning stability?....in 30 years of playing guitar and 20 years of setting them up professionally I have never....ever seen any other guitar with these things fitted to the strings.

Come on line 6 guys, have the balls to reply to the customers who have commited to buying the flawed product and time/upgrades, searching for a variax 700 that stays in tune.

Hola como les va? soy otro feliz poseedor de un Pod X3, y tengo una duda. No logro conseguir sonidos realmente limpios, con la simulacion del Roland JC120. Me llama la atencion, probe dejar solo el amp, y la simulacion de cajas. Con el gain en 1 e igual sigue distorsionando. Sera un problema de mi pod? o alguna mala configuracion?

Probe tambien bajar el volumen de mis pickups, (EMG 81). Y el "problema" continua.

Tambien tengo el pod totalmente actualizado con el Monkey.

Hum and Noise, Noise and Hum

This has probably been discussed many times , but I can't seem to find the answers.

Just got a X3 Live this weekend.

Using a Strat, thru headphones, or through a mackie mixer .... I'm getting a TON of Noise and Hum on pickups 1-3-5. So much so that most patches/presets are unusable due to the xtreme noise. A few presets even exhibit extreme noise using pickup positions 2 and 4.

I've also tried my humbucker guitar and it's a little better, but still more noise than a normal stage setup using a real amp. Waaayyy too much noise.

I've tried several different outlets throughout my house and it stays the same. I would certainly not be able to play this thing out live with this much noise and not being able to use pickups 1-3-5

Any ideas or solutions will be hugely appreciated. Thank you,

hello everybody @ line6 as a line 6 freak - not since the very first hour, but since i bought a pod xt live - i am now a proud owner of the pod x 3 live. i play it through a marshall 9100 poweramp and a hughes&kettner vintage 4x12 box. when i had to find a subject for a research work that i have to do for my diploma at the SAE in zuerich, switzerland, i came up with the idea of comparing a marshall jcm 900 with both the clean- und dist-channel-emulation in the pod x 3. my plan is to compare the pure pod sound with the pod played through the poweramp and the jcm 900 box, and to compare these with the real amp. i intend to really test the pod out, listening, measuring, comparing waveforms etc. empirically i would expect the pod to do a real good job in this challenge! it is clear to me, that you can't reveal your business secrets just for the success of my work, but... here is my question: could you help me with some deeper insights into the principles that are applied in the pod x 3? could you eventually give me more informations about how the models are designed? ... if it has something to do with convolution or whatever? are there books about programming audio dsp which could help me to understand better how the pod really works? when im starting to power up my ux8, its working nicely. but after a few minutes turning on. the signal clips blinks on and off the line 6 monkey

detects that theres no usb firmware installed so i connect and reconnect again the usb, still the same. when itry to update that selection no response from the monkey

Line 6 edit not working for me - Java Errors?

I have been unsuccessful in getting Line 6 Edit to work. I have downloaded the program twice, and have been present both times to insure that the "recommended" Jave RTE was installed on my computer.

After looking through this forum, I noticed that Line 6 apparently has corrected any problem when using Jave RTE6, which I also installed from the JAVA site in an effort to fix things. This has not corrected my problem. Anyone able to offer an ideas?

When I check my Java properties on my computer, it says I am running build 6.1.blah-blah-blah...should this version not work with Line 6 edit? The Line 6 recommended version (JavaRTE5) is also on my computer. Should I delete JAVA version 6?

High pitched whine

While recording a kawai k5000 I get a high pitched whine this also happens if I even turn on gearbox or podfarm. So far I have tried 2 different computers, running the laptop off battery power, switching outlets, switching the power cord on the Kawai, using all ports on ux8, switching the ux8 and k5000 to different outlets, using new audio cables and using a new usb cable on the ux8.

Some strange details: usually I run things through a mixer and effects before going into the ux8, even with the voulme down to 0 on everything the whine perists. Plugging the audio cable from the k5000 1/4 of the way into the mixer and there is no whine, but I can't change the volume! It's only the k5000 that is doing it. The whine is there even with the k5000 off, but goes away if it is unplugged. I tried using a behringer ufo interface and it is fine, plugging straight into the onboard sound card it is fine, plugng right into a zoom h4n it is fine as well. In some ways it seems like a k5000 problem, but all other recording interfaces have no whine.

Any other ideas?

Variax Workbench fails at startup

Variax Workbench v.1.58 fails after start (message: "Could not find Java runtime"). Followed by: "Could not init JINILoader"!

Java 1.6.0_17 is allready installed on my system and works! If I need Java 1.5 (like Workbench tells me during the installation), I dont find it (Please send me a WORKING Link, the link from the installation procedure is dead!)

but some days before faced with problem - after switching during a mistake 12 vac to a my mm4 pedal it stopped work at all

i live in Belarus 220004 and there is no any service center

may be it is a well known issue and is simple repaired - there is few great technicians here so they can check it but before brining it to them i want to ask you about it

I just updated my firmware to the latest version. Fixed an issue where I couldn't toggle between Tone1 and Tone2. But now I have new problems.

When editing, I've found that sometimes when I click stompbox (or engage the Wah, or mod, or delay) the Tone2 light turns off and the display shows black bar on top line and still shows Tone2 name. So I see the name for Tone2, but it seems I might be actually in Tone1 (or neither). Where the name for Tone1 would be, it's just all blacked out.

At that point engaging or disengaging any of the effects (stompbox/mod/delay) doesn't seem to do anything. I have to either switch to another patch, or toggle Tone1/Tone2 back and forth to get back.

It's getting very frustrating when trying to edit patches because of this glitch. It did not used to do this before the update.

It's also begun to change screens sometimes while I'm editing. I read in another post a suggestion to move all pots and park them, which is good advice for minor corrosion and buildup on the pots. But I didn't have this problem at all before the update, and now it's happening a lot.

I'm afraid that it seems I've traded one problem for two other problems.

Any help, or ideas, or ways to fix these problems?

m13 bypassing all effects with one click

Is it possible to bypass all the effects by hitting one button. I have parts in songs that are full of effects accross the board, but it then I have parts for solos as well as dry parts. I need a one button one click type of thing. Is it possible to do this easily with the m13? I understand I can tap a button to turn off the individual fx, however, like I said, I need to be able to do all either on or off at one time as well as have the ability to use it in stomp box mode.

GuitarPort models not working in Record

I have a GuitarPort (with Bass Expansion and FX Junkie) that is licensed and working great with Gear Box. (Note I also have updated the most recent version of Line6 Monkey as well) I also just purchased Propellerhead Record, which is working fine on its own. My problem is that I can't get my tones from my GuitarPort/GearBox to work within Record. When I open Record, I get an error message saying Line6 Models could not be added because my "hardware isn't updated for use with Record yet." I am then prompted to go to http://line6.com/phrecord/ and follow instructions. However, that site simply says I need to click "Activate Features" within Line6 Monkey to activate GuitarPort to work with Record - and I have no "Activate Features" button in Line6 Monkey - there is an "Activate Purchase" button, but when I click that it asks me for my "license code." (Note that within Line6 Monkey, Record does not have a green button next to it, despite the fact that I have purchased and registered it) Where do I get that license code? I've tried my "License Number" and "Registration Code" that came with Record, but neither works.

Please tell me where to get my "license code" to 'activate my purchase' of Record in Line6 Monkey.

DL4 powers up at home, but not at clubs...

I may be missing something completely elementary, btu i've run through several different configurations, and have been completely unable to get my DL4 to even power up at a club.

At home & the rehearsal space, i plug in the power supply and input/output cables, and everythign is fine. This has been done in multiple locations, multiple wall outlets, different cables, and in different positions in my pedal array. however i have tried to gig with this pedal twice, and have been unable to get it to even power up. have tried multiple configurations, even plugging the pedal directly into an outlet rather than a powerstrip etc... it won't even light up. i can place it at the end of my effects chain and it allows signal through, but will not function as a pedaal.

I've been through numerous configurations, and have had several sound guys, both house and touring, fiddle around and come up with nothing.

any ideas?

I was hauling the amp on a two wheel cart last night and talking to some really appealing female when I went over a curb. The amp slipped off the cart bounced twice and landed face down.

The amps OK at least it sounds fine this morning. I'm amazed but just wanted to report this amp can take a licking and keeps on ticking.

Hey as a side note I need tubes where the best link to the best place to purchase?

I'm looking for a warm fat clean amp sound for Smooth Jazz. Can anybody recommend a replacement tube/tubes that might enhance that sound I'm looking for?

Pod X3 Live GearBox question.

Greetings,

I am using GearBox to edit settings on the Pod X3 live.

In GearBox is there a way to view both amp model settings at the same time without have to switch back and forth using the Tone 1 and Tone 2 buttons.?

If not, does anybody know of an alternative program which exposes both amp models at once?

Something happened while I was just going through my presets. I had my FBVSB attached to the amp and all of the sudden the volume on the amp spiked up high. Tried to change patches from the FBVSB and it wouldn't. Turned down the channel volume and it went down. Then it slowly rose and fell in volume a couple of times. Turned the amp off and turned it on again and everything appeared fine for a bit.

Now when playing it seems like I've lost a good bit of volume. Normally, anything past 9:00 on the master would shake my room. Now I can turn it up to 12:00 and it's loud, but not deafening like it normally would be. It also seems like I've lost a good bit of low end.

Normally, I'd say power tube going bad. But what about the funkiness with the DSP earlier? Maybe a combination of both? I'm guessing I need to schedule a service appointment. I am under warranty. Bought the amp on Jan 16th of this year. I think I'm out of warranty on the tubes, though. But they shouldn't have gone this soon. I don't have that many hours on the amp.

I have the UX2. I also have Sonar 4. When I use the POD Farm Standalone, I can modfy amps, sounds, etc with no problem. Sonar recognized my VST plug-in and I can insert it. I can hear my bass no problem through the hardware but the plugin shows no signal.

Hey

I've installed my toneport Ux2 on my computer. I followed the orders on the manual. My computer reconized the toneport. But when I start gearbox, it says that the usb cable is not connected. Somtimes (1 on 1 million) it works perfect. When running line 6 monkey, it says that no driver is installed. Also in the computer configuration screem, there is a "line 6 audio-midi device" icon. When dubble click on it, it say that there are no devices connected.

How to solve this problem?

podfarm stopped working all of a sudden

last week I went to use podfarm and it was just making distorted sounds. called support and they told me to download the new driver (as I had recently upgraded to OSX 10.5.8). i did that and everything worked fine.

today I went to use it and it sounded like I had a bit crusher and tremolo on my signal. I checked, there were no effects. quit the app and restarted, happened again. tried using the toneport DI silver without podfarm and still had the problem. tried a different USB cable, same problem. I even tried using a different guitar and guitar cord.

next I plugged in with my mbox into Logics amps and everything worked great. didn't call Line 6 support as I had to go pick up my daughter. can't understand what happened. I have made absolutely no changes to my computer, and it was working fine a week ago. no other apps are acting up except Pod Farm. am so bummed, today was my guitar tracking day. aargh.

I'm going to be upping my macbook pro OS to Snow Leopard this weekend and I have a couple of questions for you.

1). Is PodFarm, Gearbox and Line 6 Monkey compatible?

2). Rather than upgrade, i'd like to take this opportunity to do a fresh install on my system to ensure i get the best from it, how do i go about ensuring that all my purchased add-ons will still work as I don't have them stored physically anywhere?

Hey this is for the Line6 people,

I purchased this product and Line6 claims you can download patches etc... for this unit but nothing as of late.

I feel that line6 is pushing this unit out and dont want to have any support for it . So please Line6 why is it that

hard for you guys to create some library for us people that have when out and spent soo much money on a unit

with out a libray of patches like the others. I have been reading and truthfully I cant see it taking you guys that long

to create something for the floor pod plus unit.

X3 Live Dual Tone drop out when changing between patches.HELP!

I use dual tones with my hybrid all the time, but recently when I change patches 1 of the 2 tones will drop out and the only way I can bring it back is to turn the unit off and then on again. Very frustrating when in the middle of the show.

I have the latest firmware, it was doing this before I updated the firmware, intermittently, since updating the firmware it has become worse... Please help somebody....

Studio Direct "dest" through combo front?

People,

I've just bought a XT live, it came in yesterday. What I write below is supposed to be a question, but could be of some value for other people as an amp experiment report. Please, those of you who knows best share your views on what is going on here!

I should point out that I've read the whole manual and i'm used to effects pedals. I also read extensively on modelers - amp combinations and inputs (pre, poweramp, monitors, PA, keyboard amps, effect loop/preamp bypass etc.). So it wasn't hard to set some pretty good sounds yesterday using a headphone (it was late at night...) and a "studio direct" DEST.

Today i plugged it in front of my Memphis Stinger Pro Amp (it's a fairly cheap solid 50w RMS amp with two 8'' speakers, no effects in/out, a pre output, two inputs guitar/mic, two guitar channels clean/drive, 4 volumes mic/clean/drive/master, spring reverb, 3 band Eq) and, of course, started to tweak on the "combo front" DEST to find the best sound. I used the clean channel, of course. Basically it sounded "less compressed" and trebly (in a bad way) than with my phones, even after changing the XT correction eq and the amp Eq (which comes flat at 12 o' clock, unlike some cheap ones that you better put the mid up and the bass-treble down). I managed to get a decent sound finally, just not nearly as good as with the phones. That was expected, and gave me even more reason to go with the plan and buy a roland KB to replace the old memphis.

Then i decided to compare the sound through the amp, through the xt phones output and through the amp phone output, combining each with the combo front, combo poweramp and studio direct DESTs. That is 9 different combinations. What i found out was...

The best sound came through the amp speakers with the studio direct DEST!

Now, the first question is why? Second question is, keeping this set for a live performance (in 10 days), should i mic the amp (probable option they'll give me), send it through the pre out (my guess) or plug the XT right into the PA (if there's another better amp there already and no time/space to put my own, since there'll be other 5 bands playing)? Third and more important, i wonder if the amp, with its fairly small speakers, mic input and very clean channel (no drive at all, even with master at 3-7 and clean gain at 10) is somewhat close to a Full Range Flat Response type of amp?

A few last thoughts... my phones enhances the low frequencies more than usual - one reason why it didn't sound better than the amp. My amp is not expensive, but I always liked the sound it makes, which is subjective of course, but could explain why the "color" it puts in makes the sound better. Ah, Memphis do not make amps anymore, so i can't get an answer from them.

Hi guys, I'm new to the community hehe...

Look I bought a Spider III HD75 Amp Head with a 4x12 Cab which is absolutely great by the way. Anyway, I came to Argentina to study music, and the power source here is 220V so I bought a 750W voltage transformer where I plugged the head. The first week it worked great, with no problems whatsoever. Howere, recently this morning, I turned it on and plugged my iPod into the direct mp3 connection, turned it off for some reason, and then turned it on but it wouldn't work! I mean, now when I turn it on, it sounds as if it was working properly u know, as if the speakers were also turning on, but it doesn't work anymore! All lights are off and it doesn't work!

Please tell me what happened with my amp! My dad's gonna kill me if he finds out it doesn't work!

Newset version of L6 Monkey not working with X3 Live...

Here's my problem: I own an X3 Live, and it works fine, and always has, but recently since the release of Monkey v. 1.27, it is no longer recognized. When I reinstall monkey v. 1.26 or earlier it works fine. And more interesting is that when it doesn't recognize it and it brings up the dialogue to ask me what device I'm trying to connect it only gives the option of "Podxt" in the dropdown list. Below is a screen capture:

So with that being said, my question is, obviously, what do I need to do to fix this problem so that I can use Monkey for updates?

Gearbox has stopped remembering tone settings

I did a fresh install of everything recently, which meant reinstalling all my Line6 software as well. No problem, I've done it before and all.

Well, since I just noticed it I have no idea just for how long this has been going on, but Gearbox (v 3.70) refuses to remember changes made to any tone anymore! First I tried deleting the Gearbox tone folder and let it regenerate itself, but that did not alleviate the situation. I then tried to reinstall, but the uninstaller did not appear to work (all the Gearbox files remained intact) and simply allowing the Gearbox installer to overwrite that did not fix the problem either.

As soon as I switch to any tone in Gearbox, the name becomes immediately italicized, indicating the tone's been changed, before I touch any of the settings. When I make adjustments and then switch to another tone and switch back or close and reopen Gearbox, the changes are lost, which was not its previous behavior. Further, there are even a few tones that for whatever reason Gearbox will not remember having loaded at all--if I close the program when these tones are in use, and then open the program again, it switches back to the default American Punk setting.

The preferences are set to remember the tone and while I had previously rearranged the tone directory to better suit my liking, I've never encountered this problem before. It's quite frustrating, because I create most of the tones I record with from scratch and I often make minor adjustments to them during recording sessions and it's very useful for the changes to be kept held over in between so I can keep the same sound when I need it. I know they can be saved manually, but I prefer not to make any permanent changes when I'm experimenting.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

I've noticed the following behavior while using the X2 XDR95 receiver and the XDT4 transmitter.

When zero antenna are used, the four green lights are on 95% of the time. Occasionally one of the lights will blink off for a fraction of a second. The signal is strong and the sound is clear.
When both of the antenna are attached, two of the green lights stay dark (usually RX1 and RX2). As I move around, RX3 and RX4 will go out and my guitar sound cuts out.

This would lead me to beleive that the antenna included with the product are the wrong length for the frequencies used by the X2 XDR95.

The unit is in XDR mode. This behavior occurs on all channels. The red RF light stays dark while doing a scan of the five channels and all transmitters were off.

What do I do? Or more to the point, what will Line 6 do?

(Other than this behavior, the unit sounds great!)

Pod Studio UX1 into PA system

Hello there,

Today I very happily recieved a large cardbard box containing my band's new PA system, and my Pod UX1. Both work great!

I was wondering if its possible, and/or a good idea, to plug the UX1's output into a line input on the PA system? I would have thought so, I'm just posting this in case I'm about to do something horribly wrong and blow up my new stuff.

Also, if I can plug the UX1 into this PA system, what output should I use on the UX? There are two "analog outs", which I imagine are line level? Just use one of these and set the balance in Pod Farm to that side?

I can't find a straight answer for this anywhere.

I have a Tone Port DI, which came with the GearBox Gold bundle. I got the free upgrade to Pod Farm (Platinum). I have other audio interfaces, so the Tone Port is just a big dongle, and I would much rather use my iLok for Pod Farm (which I use as a plugin, never standalone).

Exactly how much would it cost to transfer the PodFarm Platinum license to my iLok?

I have a problem getting my backtrack to connect to my computer. I plug in to my USB port, the unit shows on my removable drive list for a second, and then dissappears. It does not show up after this, and no loghts are showing on the backtrack unit itself at this point. Help!!!!!!

I have gone back to a restore point that the backtrack unit was working on before, but now it won't connect. any ideas?

Guitar Port driver error

Hi,

Something is wrong here. When starting Gear Box the message "Ignoring connection to GuitarPort. This device has an incompatable driver installed".

Running GuitarPort as such works, but still displays message "Please upgrade to latest version of GearBox" (allready installed).

Monkey reports driver update from 2.0.0.0 to 3.4.3.8 but after running the update (GuitarPort USB disconnected and connected as required) things doesn't change. The result is the same as above, even the Monkey report even if I just updated.

What might be wrong here?

This is the installation chain:

In bottom my original GuitarPort installation from CD version 1.12

Then the installation of Monkey 1.31

Then upgrade GuitarPort to version 2.01.1

that when opened recommended installation of

GearBox 3.70

Anything wrong with this order?

Anyhow, it all ends with a GearBox that can play files from inline but doesnt include the GuitarPort input.

Not really what I'm after.

Now that it is open we need to clip wires attached to pins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8...Yes, only 6 stays attached on one of the Y female RJ45s...hmmmm....

install the modified 8Y RJ45...booted blue runs to the FBV and the other (no boot) is running from the modified side to the Spider Valve 112...

So I call up 2a on my Shortboard...

Wow! That works...how about 2c?

The pictures above demonstrate using the two amps with the banks offset...You can acutally line up any bank to any bank which is you program you tones in a consistent mapping like A is always a clean tone, it opens up some possibilities...To line up the banks just navigate the SV to the bank the Flextone is on....This also works with a POD XT and there is no reason this should not work with an X3...

...Ok, looks like I will be moving some patches around after I rock out for a while...

Problem getting flash drive update on vetta II combo

I have a m-audio uno MIDI interface cable with the latest drive version (5.2.3.016) for windows xp, the problem is I have tried numerous times to update the flash drive on my amp but when I get to the part where it is complete I hit the save button and nothing happens, I then power the amp off the on, still a blank screen. I have tried everything I can find on the web and everything else I can think of, Please if anyone has any ideas please let me know I am very frusterated that I can't play my amp... Thank You.

Does anybody have a recommendation on how to best connect an acoustic electric to Pod X3L?

I have tried:

Guitar---> 1/4" to 1/4" cable ----> (1/4" Guitar In) X3L

It didn't sound all that great and I didn't have access to the acoustic settings.

Would it be better to try:

Guitar ----> 1/4" to XLR ----> (XLR In) X3L

LD175 synth model doesn't work well

The other 5 models seem to work ok. I can select them then begin turning knobs to experiment with sound variations.

The synth model MIGHT give a sound, but peters out as I being to play notes.

I followed the suggested settings in the manual and the same thing happens. No sound, or any weak sound I get quickly peters out as I begin to play.

I have an active bass (has a battery) and the only time I can get any consistent sound out of the synth model is when the I plug into the Passive port.

Where can I get replacement mounting nuts for my mounting adapter used on my pod 2.0? I lost them and need a replacement.

UX1 Recording Acoustic

I have recorded with my acoustic using the 1/4 inch standard input but it sounds rather electonic.. I'm not sure if it's the pickup which is a piezo or if there is a better way to record. My Strat sounds great though with no issues there.. Can I use a mic in the xlr port or can I use an acoustic directly connected using an xlr output? What type of mic would be recommended? Also I see that the UX1 does not supply phantom power can a separate power supply be used? Any info on this would be appreciated.

Is Stereo Digital Delay available for the effects for Pod X3 Live? I've owned this for a few months and haven't really found all the cool things this unit will do. I'm just trying to be a guitar hack and sound like some players/songs I like (Edge/U2, David Gilmour, Tom Petty, Green Day, etc.). I haven't found a good discussion/group on what is the best amp and/or effects that doesn't cost in the $1000's. I see that the DL4 has stero digital delay and other Line 6 units look like they have a lot of features. Again - is the X3 Live up to sounding like these types of players rigs or should I start over and go analog for amp (marshall, fender, or vox), pedals and try to find out to do this on these tools instead of something like the X3 Live?

I bought the unit directly from the original buyer. He's my best friend, so I have access to have him prove he sold it to me.

He doesn't have the same email address he had when he registered, and doesn't remember his line6.com password.

He told me that he'd remove the registration in his name, but we can't figure out how to release it from his name so I can register it.

The FAQ says to post a question in the forum, so that's what I'm doing.

How can he unregister the PodX3Live so I can register it on my account?

i already have purchased the Metal Amp Pack and had no problem activating it for my PODxt Live. I now have purchased a PODxt for Home use, but am unable to activate the Model pack in the Line6 Monkey software.

When i try to activate it, it asks for a license code, which when i input it, says that i already activated it. Which is obviously true. But i also want to activate it on my other devices.

Pod Farm functionality w/ Toneport DI-Gold AND XT-Live

Hi there,

I own both the Toneport DI-Gold and the XT Llive. The XT Live doesn't have any additional model packs in it.

When using Pod Farm (or Gearbox), I'd prefer to the tone processed by the XT Live, so that my computer doesn't have to. Like a TDM would, if you will. If I have my DI-Gold connected the computer while doing using the software, is there any way for the XT Live to process tones from the extra model packs?

I also see that for $35, I can use the XT Live w/ Pod Farm without having the DI-Gold needing to be connected. Will Pod Farm allow me to access those through my XT Live (while connected to my computer)?

I bought Pod Farm Platinum and an ilok Usb Key.

I've registrated the program on web site, i've activated the ilok license and download it in the key.

I tried to open Pod farm Platinum with ilok plugged in but the program that run it's the normal Pod farm.

I'm sure that i missed a step.

Please show me what do i have to do for activate Pod farm Platinum.

A few ideas for the X3, what's everyone think?

I've been using the POD X3 for a few months now, and I have some ideas/suggestions for new features on the X3 and I was just curious what everyone thought of them.

1) When you have a dual tone, it would be nice if there was some way you could activate an effect for both tones at once. For example, if I have a dual tone, but I want the rotary drum to start on them both at the same time, it's impossible to do since I have to press mod, go to the second tone and then press mod there. Maybe this could be accomplished by pressing mod and tap at the same time, or stomp/verb/delay/the on off button at the same time as tap for whatever you want to activate. Of course, it doesn't have to be the same effect... like if someone wanted to have a phaser and a rotary drum, or an octaver and a distortion activated at the same time on the dual tones. For something like the X3L, maybe pressing the button on the board and holding it for a second could work.

2) Sometimes when artists record, they use more than one microphone. It would be cool if there was a way to add more than one microphone to a tone and place them at different distances. This could possibly be accomplished on the amp page of the X3, where on the second row and possibly a third if required (Maybe differently, I don't have my POD in front of me ATM. But, just to give a general idea...) it would say Mic 1 Type, Mic 1 Room, Mic 2 On/Off, Mic 2 Type, Mic 2 Room, Mic 3 On/Off, Mic 3 Type, Mic 3 Room, etc. In Gearbox, show all the mics with the disbled ones greyed out. And then click on a mic to select it, and then press a button where you select the mic type to turn mics 2/3/etc on or off. And then move the mics back and forth by dragging them as usual. Or, select mic 1/2/3 via a dropdown menu since they might be all cluttered together, and someone might accidentally click on and edit the wrong mic.

I also have some more ideas, but I'll post them later.

Anyways, just my suggestions/ideas for L6. I know that there is other higher priorities for POD Bug Updates, but just some ideas for later on down the road.

Spider Valve SVpre, yet another mod

I have the SVpre and I was trying to decide wich push mode I like be I opened the amps at least 10 time just to try, I went from stock to red and back. So I did a mod I got inpired from one forum member who putted 2 switches on the back of the amp. Great idea but I know myself and just need thing att hand reach. Så I drilled som holes but not on the back . I have attached some pictures, the mod itself wasen that hard even for a guy who never had soldered before.

I am having a LOT of fun with this mod now, just so easy to go from stock to red push and all in between.

Hey Line 6 Team,

I just purchased your UX1 unit as well as a CAD GXL2200 microphone so I could try recording hip hop songs at home for fun. I read through the manual and the design of the Tones looks like it will be awesome however I've run into a wall. For my recording software I wanted to utilize Magix Audio Studio, it's a 2004 edition, but it did have UX1 as an option for recording. When I'm in that program however and use UX1 there is no response from the microphone.

So I figured I'd better research through google.. found that my CAD microphone is like most, it needs at least 48v of phantom power - - does the UX1 provide sufficient power for the microphone to work? I am unable hear myself on the mic through POD farm, and am unsure of where to go from here.

Please bear with me as I am very new to this, but how do I get things going through POD farm / UX1?

I am trying to think of the best way to set up a home studio but still have some power to get meaty guitar tones. I don't have the money for the amp I want right now so I was thinking of getting a small powered PA to run through the UX2 to my computer. Would this sound ok and what would be the best way to go about doing this? So I would have the amp for the PA speakers, the speakers, the Ux2 (with pod farm for my guitar amp), my guitar, and my computer. Any help would be awesome! Thanks

Power Adaptor for Pod XT live

I live in India, where the power supply is 220V. As I am getting a Pod from the U.S, I will need a power adaptor. However, a friend told me that a normal adaptor gives a hum when connected to the pedal....is there any proper converter ??? or any solution to the hum ??? Anything helpful is appreciated.

Looking for a little guidance and support for some battery issues. I love my X2 XDR95 system and it has been great so far. Instead of using fresh akaline batteries everytime I decided to purchase rechargeable batteries. I purchased the Powerex 9.6v NiMH rechargeable batteries (http://www.zbattery.com/MAHA-PowerEX-9-6V-NiMH-9V-Format-Battery?leadsource=6) and replaced the battery. The system was working fine during initial tune-up and during sound check at a recent show but when the show started my system shut off. Everytime I turned on the transmitter it would turn on briefly but than turn off. I checked they system by trying fresh akaline batteries and the system seemed to work just fine.

My question is, I'm trying to be economical and environmentally friendly by using rechargeable batteries. Is the type of rechargeable battery, due to the voltage, affecting the operation of the transmitter? Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated.

I've got a macbook pro with Logic Pro 8 on it.

I've installed Pod Farm and all latest drivers: (Line 6 Monkey Update says:)

In the Optional Add-Ons tab of Line 6 Monkey

FX Junkie and POD Farm are Marked with a 'v'.

My UX2 is activated and recognized and in Logic Pro 8 I can hear the computer sound through the UX2 with a headphone.

The Audio Device (Core Audio) in Logic is enabled and the UX2 Device is selected.

The standalone POD Farm software works with my guitar. I can see a signal and I hear my sound with all the Amps/Effects available.

THE PROBLEM:

I want to use my UX2 as a plug-in for Logic. (3 questions)

Do I have to pick 'New software instrument track' or 'New audio track'?
When I pick one I select the plug-in as an insert. Is that correct?

When I do I can see the plug-in (I get the pop-up screen with all the amps and effects etc.). But I don't get a signal from my guitar.

So the standalone version works but the plug-in doesn't get the signal from my guitar.

What can I do?????

OK, I dont know if this goes here or where, but I'm extremely angry with my UX2 and my laptop so I need any solutions from you officially cause I've tried EVERYTHING and I don't get more than problems...

I bought a UX2 studio pod and tested it in my HP laptop. It worked with a lot of noise, and I found here that it was a USB port problem, so I bought a USB hub and tested it and... voila! it worked! finally, I was gonna be HAPPY with me HP and play guitar in a happy way but NO! a day, without warning, it stopped working, magicly, without a reason, when I connect the UX2 to the hub and the laptop, it works fine, without noise, but spent a little time, like 20~25 secs, it suddenly dies, the sound stop and I have to disco and connect then again, so I can't record or play in a proper way

I taked another USB hub to see if the problem was it got broken, but no, it happened the same, and the thing it bothers me is that if before worked, why the **** doesnt work now? I tested it all, the USB hub and the UX2 directly with another PC and it worked fine, so the items arent broken, and another things that is really weird is that if I connect the UX2 to the laptop directly, without the USB hub, it works fine, it doesnt get suddenly cut, but I have that noise problem with the HP's usb ports...

If the USB hub is not broken cause I have two and I tested before with the one that worked the firsts days, and then with another one unused, and they work fine in a PC, why does it get stopped at the 20 secs magicly??

I know my english is not a native speech but I'm from spain and I can't get any proffesional work in my language here so the only ones that can help me are you guys.

Im Adam, and im planning to buy a studio GX interface. I am already using a guitar effects software (not line6) and im getting a very high latency (i plug my guitar straight into my motherboard's 'line in' ). If i buy a line6 usb interface, will i get a lower latency ? Because i belive if i play on a line6 usb thing, then that does the main processing, not my CPU . So i belive i will get lower latency then without a line6 interface, and just playing straight to the sound card. But im not sure, thats why im asking you about it.

I have a Variax 500 and have been very pleased with the range of tones (and the accuracy). I've had an idea brewing for a while but have not really worked on it as there seemed to be too many roadbocks - but maybe not.

I play 50's/60's Fender Pedal Steel guitars. These are 8-string instruments and quite different from modern steels; the older (and more commonly used) models have a seperate string-pulling "changer" and bridge (some bridges are bars; some rollers; some are replaced with Strat-type saddles).

My idea was to adapt the Variax technology into a pedal steel. It's been discussed by many steel players as a great idea, but most are playing modern guitars with integrated pulling-finger/changer elements that would not work as a piezo transducer.

On a Fender, though, I could easily machine a bridgeplate and use standard Variax piezo saddles.

The problem is getting parts. If I used a 300, 500 or 700 as a "donor" I'd be two saddles short (again, the only commonly-found steel models this would work with are 8-string, 1957-1964 long-scale Fender 400 and 1000 models), and it seems silly to destroy a Variax just for parts.

So what I have are really two questions:

1. Can piezo bridge saddles be acquired individually - if so, where and how (I need pricing to work up a budget.)

2. What is the availability of the Variax electronics alone?

There is plenty of room for routing/mounting of the electronics, and oddly Fender pedal steels are NOT collector's items - they are valuable only as players, so modifying one does not devalue a "vintage guitar". There are quite a few players waiting for someone to try this - I mod and service Fender steels so it kind of fell in my lap!

Not new to playing guitar but new to these fancy gadgets for plugging your guitar into

I have a yamaha APX900 electro-acoustic guitar with a built in pre-amp/controls. I believe it has multiple piezoelectric pickups (not 100% certain).

For all I want the GX seems ideal, I have no need for the extra inputs/outputs of the UX2. But looking at the UX2 it has a normal input and a pad input. From the manual :-

Pad Input - This input is designed for high output level basses and guitars, especially those with active pickups.

So my question is thus:-

Will I need a PAD input for my electro-acoustic guitar? Or can get away with using the normal input on the GX? (at half the price )

Anyone had any experiance with an electro-acoustic and the GX?

Any advice appreciated, cheers!

Can someone help me. I have an X3 Live and need to tune down half a step for my next practice session. From memory, the X3 Live only seems to have major notes ie E A G B D E and i need these to be Eflat, Aflat etc.

Anyone know how to do this? i am sure that this is really easy and i am missing something but for the life of me i cant work it out.

Just setting up my new KB37. In Sonar 8, however, I don't have any MIDI in (or out) - options, MIDI Devices... nothing is listed. I can't set up the transport controls either (since there is no MIDI port listed).

I'm running 32bit Sonar on Vista x64. Latest drivers for KB37 and latest POD farm and monkey. All up to date.

Hey guys - looking for some help dialing in a tone on my X3L.

A friend sent me this church worship song and I'm captivated by the guitar tone on the intro.

Its that ambient synth like guitar tone that is heard during the intro and subtly throughout. Not the lead guitar repeating the lead lick that more subtle second guitar.

No audio/garbled audio with Toneport UX1

Hi, everyone. I've got a Toneport UX1 connected to my new Mac Pro. I installed the drivers and connected the cables properly and selected the UX1 as the audio input and output device in the OSX audio preferences. When I turn on my Mac, I don't get any sound out of the Toneport. This is the case whether I'm trying to record my electric guitar in Garageband or just playing a song in iTunes.

I can get audio eventually, but it's a real pain. If I unplug the USB cable from the Toneport, I hear audio from the Mac's internal speaker. Then, I plug the USB cable back into the Toneport and I get audio from its output over the speakers, but it's garbled and unlistenable. If I restart the system, then I get normal audio out of the Toneport and I can use iTunes and Garageband. I have to go through this procedure every time I start the system or wake it up from hibernation.

Can anybody offer any suggestions?

I need to switch quickly on occassion from bass to 6 srting electric. Is it possibe to install a few basic 6 string patches on my bass pod XT Live. i would like to just unplug my guitar cable from one instrument to the other and select an appropriate patch on the pod. I'm playing direct through the PA - no amp on stage. Sound tech would be resposible to adjust each instrument for the mix. I monitor through aviom.

I have a TonePort UX1 for many months but I never manage to make any recordings at all. I was using RiffWorks2 line6 edition for a while but it was crushing my PC. Not other program ever caused broblems to my PC. I don't know if RiffWorks requires more than 2GB RAM.

I asked a guy who used RiffWorks on his Mac and he told me he was happy with it. Is it a compatibility problem with Vista? It was annoing because it's a large software but has so many limitation.

Is there any simpler way way of recording through a TonePort?

I have a Line 6 Pod 2.0 and cant get it to comunicate with my computer.. I have both Money and Line 6 Edit installed and I am connected using a midi/usb cable.. I tired it last year and had the exact same issues. I have since purchased a new computer and a new midi cable and reloaded all the software agin but it didnt help.. It bascially times out when I try to update the "Flash Memory" in Monkey because it wont comunicate with the POD.. Before you ask, yes I tried swapping the midi in/out cables.. I have read every article on the site but cant find anything else that I havent tired already.. It times out when trying to update the flash memory and then gives me an error code of 800900C...

Can someone please help? I have been wanting to updload and download tones for over a year now..

Latest MAC OS X SNOW LEOPARD and the UX1

Hi,

I have purchased pod farm from Thomann and it arrived on friday... Ilok came as well and it is registered and configured fine... the problem apeared when I want to register and activate my pod farm software in order to pass the licence on ilok... Error 8727 activation code redeemed is what I got on my screen... My DAW is not on internet and I don´t have line6 hardware ( thats why I got ilok ) ... I have already read your answer to member Luskin , but there is missing the real answer ... I have asked there , the same as here but no answer so thats why I am opening new thread with same problem...

Can you help me ASAP with this ???
