Just Cracked My SV HD100 Open (Job Done Have Pics)

I'm installing mini switches on the front of the amp to access the 4 Push modes for the SVpre. While I have it open, I realized that I have a EH 12AX7 tube sitting around. The same one that came with the SVpre, I'm replacing the V1 preamp tube with it. Also I'm going to replace the LEDs. I'd love to make the faceplace glow purple which is my favorite color, but I think red would look better.

Fractal audio is going to cause some competition with line6. My axe-fx blows away the X3 i had. The axe-fx is the most amazing thing i ever used! But why does it sound so much better than anything line6 ever put out?

I only type this because I hope line6 puts out something of the same quality. I like to see healthy competition. I've always been a fan of Line6.

Plus line6 is always affordable. The axe-fx ran me 2k. (IT's so worth the 2k though)

Why do people down L6 untill they find out how good they realy are

I play in a Punk/Hardcore band and have played through L6 gear for over 9 years. I bought a L6 spider when they first came out and no one even knew who they were, but everyone was amazed at the sound of this 75 watt 1x12 "monster of tone" and I was in a jam band, then L6 started getting bigger(more people found out what they were missing for the $). The next prodject I started was heavy and I needed a half stack so I bought the spider2 hd150 and a Laney cab from my friend, still before we played everyone wanted to know how the L6 was and they were loving my amp after they heard it, but also saying how hard they found it to get that head to sound good in the store. It just takes some tweaking like any amp.Then in early 2008 I bought the svhd100 and I was amazed( I even bought the head with out even playing through one)and dont get me wrong the L6 is a modeling amp, but it moddels the best amps in the buisness, not exactly but most people will not notice much of a diffrence. now I have recently bought a Bogner Uberschall ( search for the perfect tone) and it is an amazing amp, but my SV HD100 is still a great amp. Basicly what I'm trying to say is L6 is great gear, and not everyone can afford $1600+ for a tube head. And the people who can great, but dont knock theL6 users for tryning to get the tones that only a hand full of people can even purchase. so if you use L6 dont be ashamed be proud that you can get the tones that you need with out breaking the bank. It could be worse, you could be playing through a crate or some other pos!!!

PS next time someone says L6 sucks look at what they are using and listen to there sound, you'll be suprised how good L6 is. listen to the tracks on my bands page and tell me L6 is no good

Locking tuners for Variax 700 electric?

Hi everybody!

I'm very happy with my new Variax 700. Great guitar, beautifully crafted, great set up, right out of the box!

The Gotoh tuners are ok really, but however I do have little tuning problems when using the tremolo a bit more violent.

I wondered if it would make a difference to replace the stock tuners with locking tuners from, for instance, Schaller.

And what would be the best fitting model/brand, in regards to the screwholes and such.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Soundclips w/ M13, Michael Kelly and Egnater Renegade 65

Finally got around to recording a few things with the new rig. There will be more to come.

This a Michael Kelly Patriot Custom (neck pickup, coil tapped) into the Egnater Renegade 65 watt head (clean channel) using the 4CM with a L6 M13. The head feeds a 1936 Marshall 2x12 with T-75s. Mic'd with an SM58 into a Toneport UX-2 into Reaper. The only post-processing I did was to mess with the levels a bit and added a limiter to squish a couple of high peaks and to slightly boost the volume overall.

The first round of playing is bone dry, no fx or anything. The 2nd set of clips uses the M13 in the loop for a rotary w/ horn and a delay (the digital w/ mod, I believe) and I used the amp's reverb.

The amp is really amazing, by the way. It has two fully independent channels, each of which have the following variables: 18/65 watt switch; a "tight/deep" switch; a "bright/normal" switch; preamp gain; eq (bass, mid, treble); "tube mix" (lets you blend any combination of the amp's 6L6 power amp with the EL34 power amp -- really cool!), master volume and reverb. There is also a shared presence, density, and "main 1" and "main 2" master volume controls. These all work with the included footswitch, which lets you switch channels, turn the fx loop on or off, turn the reverb on or off, and engage the 2nd master volume control. Each of these elements in the footswitch can be assigned to either channel or both. So if you wanted to use reverb on the clean channel but not the od channel, you can assign the footswitch to let you turn the reverb on and off for channel one but not channel two.

So I recorded some other stuff with my strat and hope to be able to post that stuff this evening. Let me know what you think and if you've got stuff you want to hear, let me know.

Line 6 device and AMD Turion X2 Mobile Processors Investigation

I'd like anyone who is having issues with pops and clicks with these sepcific processors and our drivers to please post on this thread EXACT computer specs and a concise and detailed recipe of how you are able to reproduce these pops and clicks.

I've been streaming music now on an HP DV9 laptop with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor on Vista Home Basic 32 bit now for about an hour without one pop, click or CPU spike. Help me reproduce this so I can help you guys get up and running! Thanks.

Can I get all the Tones at once? You can download all the Tones from the Public Tone Exchange, sorted by product, in this ZIP file. Once downloaded, unzip the file, navigate to the location of the unzipped file using the left list of Line 6 Edit's Tone Locker window, and you'll be able to open any of the Tones that are compatible with your Line 6 device. This file is updated regularly, for the tone junkie who just can never get enough...

Pod X3 Live blank screen and no sound

I went to my gig last night and my Pod X3 Live started with a blank lit up screen and no sound. All other buttons lit up correctly, could change patches/banks, tap tempo etc, but a full blank screen and no sound.

I thought it could be adapter problem so I used the Line 6 adapter of the other guitarist in the band, but nth changed.

I tried to start the unit in safe mode, it apparently started in Safe Mode (no other pedals lit up this time), but since the screen remained blank I could do NTH!!! So I had to play the whole pop/rock band gig with a guitar directly into PA as the lead player of the band. If you play one gig like that, you'll know what I suffered!

When I got home, I connected X3 to my PC and Monkey recognizes the device, so does Gearbox. I can change the patches in Gearbox, but still no sound.

And what is more funny Monkey doesn't show the firmware info and the driver details in its "update" page.

I tried to record into Ableton Live. There is such an extremely low level and distorted sound. It is clear that the device can change patches, I could hear it after I normalized the recorded tracks.

I also tried reinstalling the Monkey and the device drivers, but nth changed.

So this is my 3rd Line 6 Device that leaves me in frustration in the middle of gig on stage. I experienced the same with my Variax 700 guitar and also with my bass, both with the very common "suddenly some strings go softer or even silent than the others" problem.

So how angry should I be and what is your solution to my Pod X3L problem?

Sound Squeak when using pedal as volume or wah

I read a question about a squeak but it sounded like it was coming from the user's pedal and not from the sound single from the pod.

Recording using POD X3 Live?

I recently bought a POD X3 Live and found about the USB audio drop out problem. So, I need tips on alternative ways to record using a computer, knowing that I use POD Farm Plug-in in Ableton Live. The M9 user interface - Line 6 missed the mark

I find that the single LCD on the M9 makes for a very limiting user interface. You've gotta have a damn good memory to essentially memorize what you've placed in any of six slots in six, or even worse 24, different scenes because the M9 does virtually nothing to help you know what's where ("Hmm, is that blue light in the top row of the second slot of scene 4 a flanger or a chorus? And which delay is that green light?" - this is not an easy decision process in the middle of a gig when someone calls a tune, or even in the middle of a song). I like my M9 and I've decided to keep it, but this limitation was almost a deal breaker for me.

To be honest, I think the user interface is a fundamental design flaw of both the M9 and M13. I mean come on, an LCD that displays a small black font on a blue background for crying out loud? Figure that the average player is nearly six feet away from that display or more if you're leaning back or whatever, and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to realize that it's going to be hard to read. To me, Line 6 has designed a performance-based product that has a UI more suited to desktop use. What other pro-level, floor-based unit has such a tiny and unreadable display?

I think Line 6 should have incorporated either a second, easy to read LED display (too late for that, obviously) or they should somehow configure the existing LCD/LCD's to display a larger font on a lighter backround. Maybe a user-definable scene name that scrolls in the window or something like that. With the M9's single LCD this is particularly important.

Remember when the Variax was new? I remember the NAMM video when they were pushing the magic of the "mystery port". All the wonderful things the "mystery port" was going to provide. Well it certainly hooked alot of people into pre-ordering the Variax 500 which cost about a $1000.

And finally about 12 months later when the "mystery port" capabilities were realized it came in the form of a VERY expensive amp called the Vetta II. The only way you could access the full capabilities of the Variax was you had to purchase a Vetta II. Then they made available the Vetta I upgrade. What's that? All of this was suppose to be accessible through a computer interface? Well it finally happened but not before Line 6 dropped the price of the Variax by HALF PRICE!!

The Variax wasn't available for more than 2 years yet before they started selling it for HALF PRICE! And the full capability of the "mystery port" had not yet been developed! Thank you Line 6 for SCREWING us out of $500 bucks.

Why the sudden price drop? It's not like the speed of computer technology and the competition that goes with it. There was NO competition! Nobody had the technology and NO reason to drop the price! The technology never changed. It never improved. It is still the same technology today. Same models. Same sounds. Same stuff going into the Vaxrack whatever.

So why the price drop? Why drop the price of the Variax by half BEFORE the consumer can realize all the benefits of the technology?

I couldn't imagine Korg, Roland, Alesis, etc. pushing some great breakthrough sampler or whatever for a $1000 that will do X plus Y and Z in the very near future that NOBODY else has. "Wow, X is awesome but because it will be able to do Y and Z I'm gonna buy it!" And then W-H-A-M!! Before Y and Z is even available they sell it for HALF PRICE?! WHA?!

"Dude, you paid a 1000 dollars for your Variax 500?" "I just bought a Variax 500 AND the computer interface with software for 400 dollars less than what you paid for it." "And you just bought it 2 years ago!" "Cool."

Wow, some people are so gullible. To think that anyone would buy into the new product BS that Line 6 spews out is just amazing...

Line 6 should have AT LEAST offered the computer interface and software for FREE to those who bought the Variax 500 before the price drop. Instead they flipped them all off.

Moral of this TRUE story...Don't buy ANY new products from Line 6 until it's a couple of years in production and you might get it for half price.

And to Line 6.....I have not purchased another Line 6 product since and I tell EVERYONE this story. (flip)

No More Line 6 Products For Me

I bought a kb37 about 18-19 months ago, I mostly use it for gtar/bass stuff but I use the keys sometimes...

Anyway I go to use it on the weekend... low and behold about 8 of the keys no longer function (yes I tried diff usb cables, reinstalling drivers etc etc).

I checked the warranty and d'oh only 12 months.

Ok so I thought great this is a pain in the neck not too mention I was (and still am) pretty angry about the poor life of the product

so I contacted the service centre listed by line6 (im in Australia for those of you who want to know there is only one service centre listed)... luckily for me

its not too far from home...

They then proceed to tell me that they do not deal with any out-of-warranty repairs

(People at line6 if you are going to allow somewhere to be a service centre make sure its a service centre not a sorry-we-dont-do-that centre)

They told me I could try taking the kb37 to some electronics place about 40mins drive away.

Already after this experience I'm almost tempted to forget it and cut my losses and go buy something else, unfortunately I had to fork out 600 bucks for this P.O.S. (I knew I should have bought that presonus interface...)

So if you're reading this steer away from these rubbish products and get something else!

I wonder if others have had similar problems.

(If you cant tell I'm very p----d off!)

Crackling in monitors, using Toneport UX1

I've tried the recommendations that have already been posted, including optimizing my computer settings, downloading the latest drivers and software versions, and trying different settings for buffer size, bitrate, and so on. I've checked all the hardware (monitors are brand new, cables are new/not damaged). My computer should be plenty fast enough (and when I'm not using monitors, it handles the recording software fine, with processing and memory to spare). So I've kind of reached my wits end...I just spent a bunch of money on these monitors and I can't hear anything but crackling static.

Hardware:

Laptop (Windows Vista, 64bit, 2.10GHz, 4.0GB RAM)

Toneport UX1 (connected by USB 2.0)
M-Audio Studio Monitors (connected by two 1/4" cables to Output from Toneport)

Guitar or Amp (into 1/4" Instrument input on Toneport)

Software:

Line6 Gearbox (usually set on bypass, if I'm recording direct from an amp)

Hello,

I bought the line 6 pod farm for my boyfriend so he could record his music and burn it to a CD. When I went to Guitar Center, that is what I told them I was trying to do and they sold me the Line 6 Pod farm. And while he absolutely loves it and all that he can do with it, he still cannot seem to get it to actually record his playing to his computer in any format that can be shared or burned to a CD. Is he missing a step or is he missing some other system or program that is needed to actually be able to accomplish that part?

Problems getting Superior Drummer 2.0 to work with iMac & Cubase4LE

I have barely started multi-track recording on a computer after using a Roland VS-880 & Korg D3200 hard disc recorders for years. I just bought Superior Drummer 2.0 (S2.0) yesterday and had a difficult time downloading all of S2.0 and all of the related items. I have never used drum software in a computer until yesterday. I have a new iMac with almost a terrabyte of free disc space. First, I downloaded all of S2.0 & related items & updates off the toontrack website, no problem. Not sure if it was OK to download all of that internet stuff first. Then I downloaded DVD Disk #1 for S2.0, no problem, I think that was the disc where I went for the full 20 gig version. After about an hour of downloading, it said to insert Disk #2, so I ejected Disk #1. It kept spitting out S2.0 disk #2 after I would put it in the computer. So, for the first time I tried putting the blue EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1 in the computer. It spit that disk out twice. So I went back to trying to download S2.0 disk #2. After many tries, I eventuaully downloaded that disk #2 (its files) into an empty 00000@_SUPERIOR LIBRARIES file folder. I did a similar thing with S2.0 disk #3, #4, and #5. I couldn't get S2.0 to open, so I downloaded the smaller (less than 10 gig version) of S2.0 from S2.0 disk #1. Then it said to download S2.0 disk #2, and I did that after several attempts (after spitting out the DVD repeatedly). It didn't say to download S2.0 disk #3, #4, or #5. Once again I tried to download the blue EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1 in the computer. It spit that out twice, so I gave up on that. I am using Cubase LE4. Here are my iMac specs (with Snow Leopard 10.6.1):

I can open Toontrack solo OK, and it can play the different Grooves OK. When I go to a MIDI folder, there are the following files: 000@_EZ_PLAYER, 002@EZPLAYER_PRO_MIDI, 20@_USER_LIBRARIES, MY MIDIFILES, but they are all empty. In Cubase LE4, it says Superior Drummer is the VST Instrument. On Toontrack solo Library, it only has S1 - Drummer, S1 - Percussionist, S1 - Cocktail, and N.Y. Avatar. I can't figure out how to set the paths for dfh Superior, Custom & Vintage, and Vintage add-on. Can't get toontrack drums to play within Cubase recorded song. HELP PLEASE!!!

After 3 more attempts I got the iMac to accept the blue EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1 without spitting it out. I tried to download it over 10 times & it gives me this message every time: "! The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

When I bought S2.0, Guitar Center handed me a box with 7 DVD's in it: 5 for S2.0 and 2 blue ones. One blue one: EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1. The other blue one: Drumkit From H ell EZX/Latin Percussion EZX/Vintage Rock EZX/Nashville EZX Disc 2. Is it necessary to download the EZDrummer to get S2.0 to work? I didn't pay for EZDrummer separately. Did Guitar Center accidently give me EZDrummer for free?

I just recently installed Windows 7 64bit operating system, this is final retail version.

I have POD XT live and Pod farm, etc and I installed the POD XT live drivers and Line 6 Monkey. However, whenever I play back an audio, it has a crackling sound.

I don't know why this is happening. I also browsed the forum and tried some of the suggested work arounds but this issue isn't resolved.

Can you please tell me what I should do to resolve this crackling sound?

Also the LIne 6 Monkey doesn't show anything listed all under Updates. I installed the Line 6 Monkey 64bit version that is supposed to be compatible for Vista 64bit but that

didn't make any difference and the crackling sound is still there.

Pod XT Live Expression Pedal Failure

My expression pedal has been giving me fits lately. During the last several performances (I play every weekend) it's been a guessing game with this thing. When I power up the unit it will perform as it always has in the past but lately after a short time the expression pedal will suddenly fail the result being full output of the particular patch down the line.. Sometimes if I power down and power back up the problem will go away but then reappear a short time later. It's unpredictable. Other times when I power up the expression pedal doesn't work at all, full volume. I've been running a cry baby down line to try to manage this but it very inconvenient and is certainly not what I want. I've read about recalibrating the pedal but that doesn't sound like thats the answer. The pedal does work SOMETIMES b ut only for a short time. Whats up?

Hi,

I've just bought an X3 Pro, and wanted to update the drivers and firmware, both of which are at 1.00.

I have the latest version of Monkey installed, and it identfies my X3 Pro is connected. However, in the updates tab, the only thing that shows up is the Applications sub menu. No drivers/ firmware options to be seen (which can be seen in the updates tab when I switch devices to my XT Pro). So there is seemingly no way to update the firmware or drivers!

Any help very much appreciated.

Spider Valve MKII Comms board

Hi guys.

I've tried asking Line6 this off the board, but I've got no response. which is fine. if the answer is 'yes it will work' then that means some of us wont upgrade our amps. but that's not my point.

I would like to by a SV MKII maybe a head, maybe a combo. I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I hear the SVPre is on its way for the MKII in a few months, so that's good news. but here's what I'm thinking.

I have an SV Pre and my SV12 is way out of warranty now anyway, and I have taken a look at the communications board in the amp before, and my feeling is that the FBV communications protocols are something similar to MIDI, but with a fundamental difference so that they're not compatible. BUT it would be silly of line6 to make the FBV protocol so different to MIDI that some kind of translator device couldn't sit in the back of the amp with FBV and MIDI on one board (as I guess it is in the MKII, as when you look at other amps with both like the vetta, the FBV and MIDI ports are next to each other) and then basically the amp's channel switching is controlled by FBV, and the MIDI signals are just translated in the amp in realtime.

So where am I going with this... well is communications board in the SV MKII (with FBV and MIDI on it) the same as the SV MKI board but with the added MIDI things and the MIDI to FBV translator?? If this is the case, and the actual connections from the board to the amp are identical in the SV MKI and MKII that would mean that some of us who will eventually own an SV MKI and an SV MKII could try to buy this board from a line6 service center and swap it out, thus giving us the ability to control both amps with out M13!!

obviously those of us who choose to control the amp with FBV pedals, can control both amps at the same time using space's fbv Y splitter (i guess... has anyone tested this with 2 SV's yet?) and then use the MIDI out on the SV MKII to perhaps change scenes on the M13 if thats possible.

anyone got any ideas about the comms board or the other info?

I've been said to start a new topic and post my pc's specs, so it could help.

ASUS k50AB (notebook)

Windows XP SP3, 32-bit, slightly modified (just for the looks +few program installed, not important)

AMD ATHLON X2 QL-64 (2.10 GHz, 1MB cache)

4 GB RAM (Windows reads only 3,25 GB because it's an XP, still)

ATI Radeon 4570 (i doubt that's important, but whatever)

250 GB HDD

WiFi IEEE 802.11b/g/n
LAN 100 Mbps

So you can see i experience the common noise problem on Windows XP and having an Athlon, not Turion.

I've got TonePort UX1.

None of the solutions posted helped.

Please do something, i hope you guys will be able to fix this.

I have a problem with my POD X3Live.

I played 2 hours, pod was connected into computer via USB.

Next i turned off POD for 15min. Computer was still turned on.

When i turned on again, on the display showed first Line 6 Logo and next text "UPDATE FLASH".

When I update flash via Monkey on the display show text "UPDATE FLASH..."

But after restart POD X3 Live, this text is still on display .

Can you help me? Or i have to send my pod to repair?

Hello! I've had my variax 500 electric guitar a couple of years now and it has worked flawlessly until now. When I play barre chords with the lowest keynote on the a-string (for example a high E) the b-string and the g-string doesn't "agree" and i get that tremolo effect which occures when the guitar isn't in tune. However the guitar is perfectly tuned cause when checking the strings separately on those frets that are problematic they're in tune. And I tested to record when first playing on the b-string and then I dubbed that with playing on the g-string and it sounds perfect. It's only when they're played together at the same time it sounds out of tune. If i tune down the b-string just a little it dissapears, but then all other chords gets out of tune. As i've just had it in for intonation I know that that isn't the problem, and i've checked that all frets are in tune. My guess is that something is wrong with the technical part of the guitar, maybe the piezo mics are damaged or something in the "computer" of the guitar. I don't know what to do, I guess I need to get service, but when searching for a service center in sweden i get no results, why is that?

FBV shortboard malfunction

Yesterday I used my new Spider IV 150 w/ MK II shortboard with the band for the first time. I moved it from home, plugged it in and hooked up the shortboard. The amp worked and the board lit up but the volume pedal was on full and would not shut off in the heel down position. I was able to switch pre -sets but still no volume pedal. I procceded to use the gear without the pedal and after a while it started to work. Then the wah wah quit working. With the wah turned on both the green volume and the red wah light were lit, but the wah wah didn't function. After playing for a while I tried it again and it worked! I've got it set up again at home and everything seem to be fine. What happened? I bought this rig to try and simplify my gear set up but so far it's been a real headache. I confess that I'm not a techie and I may have bungled something but it was working fine at home ,and it's not as complicated as my Pod X3 Live pedal, which works fine...so far.

Also the FBV calibration steps that come with the downloaded Advanced Guide for the Spider amp don't do anything. I followed the directions to "power off the board, press and hold the 'D' footswitch while powering on the board'. There's supposed to be an LCD readout :Calibrate Pedal" but there isn't any such display . So I don't know if this thing is even "Calibrated". It seems to work fine, when it's working. Is it actually necessary to calibrate it?

..i've got 2 tonebone pedals with high gain settings in the loop , configured 'pre' , and yet to get enough level , the return is at +20db -

the amp block is off , and i've got the eq set with mid cuts , to try and get the cleanest sound , going into the fx return of a marshall avt combo..

this works ok , but if i try to switch the amp block on , the levels all are way too low -

if i put the loop 'post' , then the comp/boost doesn't have nearly the desired effect..

i must be doing something wrong..

also there's alot of noise when the pedals are on - the gate seems to have little effect - shouldn't it be at the end of the chain?

lastly , the momentary display feature for the amp tone controls doesn't seem to be working at all , minor gripe , but still ??

any advice appreciated , thanx , cam..

M13 Power Problem

I pretty sure it's not my computer though, this is a very good cpu I have, a beast. I think it has more to do with the music recording software I'm using, Magix Music Maker 10. This is particularly cheap software, like 60 bucks 4 or 5 years ago. My friend gave it to me. It does alright and can use the plugins, gearbox or pod farm. When I have 7-9 tracks using the plugins its tough for my computer to keep things smooth, no hick ups etc. Is this gonna be a problem no matter what kind of recording software I use? Is there a limit to how many tracks can use the plugins at once before it freaks even the best computers out. I was thinking about getting Cakewalk Sonar software. Will this help? I record guitar, bass and vocals dry through the POD X3 live and use plugins in the mixer of Magix Music Maker to get things to sound best so I want to have pod plugins on lots of tracks if needed. Please can some one give me the rundown/technical specs on this? Thanks.

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same as me. L6 is an american company right? and I know that they build them in China to keep down the cost for everyone, and that helps out everyone. But my problem is the speaker choice. Don't get me wrong Celestion has made some very defining sounds, but are they realy the right choice for L6? I mean Eminence is made in the USA, so why does a USA based company use chinese crap? why not help out the Americans, and Besides that Eminence speakers sound much better than Celestions do anymore ( Probably that whole not made in England thing) take for example the Celestion V30 and compare them to a governor by Eminence ( just bear with me) I know they are not the "Same" eventhough they are compared against each-other. But the Governer is a WAY smother sound than a V30. And thae eminence V12 $69.00 retail kills a V30 what is it now $149? or in my opinion the K100 roughly the same priceas a V30. and for less than 1/2 the price ....RETAIL!!!! so wouldn't it be nice if Americans BOUGHT AMERICAN? I've been watching alot of the @hitty economy crap lately. So my question is Who else feals this way. I know there are some people who couldn't live with out a real Celestion speaker, but honestly are they still celestions?Eminence are made in the USA with ,and get this USA parts!!!!! This has been bugging me so let me know your thoughts.

Got my Toneport UX2 running through my Mac via USB, and have the main audio running out of that to monitors. When using it sometimes, the audio suddenly becomes choppy and distorted, almost at a rate of 1 'blip' per second. I restart the mac and everything is fine again until it happens. What is going on??

Blue screen with POD Studio UX1

Recently i'm on Windows 7 (Ultimate Version) and now I've got 'Blue screens" showing the following Stop Message :

L6UX1.SYS Address 9237B0B1 base at 9236A000, DateStamp 4a53c2b9

The first times, bluescreens appear while I was listening MP3 ine Windows media player, then in Winamp. My UX1 is my default sound material.

I had the bluescreen a few times when watching Videos on MPC Home Cinema and another time whereas I do nothing on my computer.

The message on bluescreen is always the same and showing an UX1 conflict. I think it can be an incompatibility problem with Win 7 and UX1 Driver. When I was on Wondows XP, I never had such problem.

Les premières fois le bluescreen est apparue durant l'écoute de MP3 sous Windows media player puis sous Winamp. A savoir que mon UX1 est mon périphérique audio par défaut.

J'ai rencontré le problème plusieurs fois en regardant une video avec MPC Home Cinema puis, à nouveau le même problème sans faire quoique ce soit.

L'erreure ne se produit pas intantanément et de façon aléatoire. Le message d'erreur du bluescreen étant toujours le même et indiquant le UX1 comme conflit, je soupçone un problème de compatibilité entre le Driver du UX1 et Windows 7. Je n'ai jamais eu de tels problèmes sous Windows XP.

This thread was started purely to direct people to the feature request page on this site which people are doing and that's great.

Whining and complaining doesn't achieve anything, so please don't drag down the intention of this thread with negativity.

There appears to be some misconceptions driving negative comments. Just because the POD X3 manages 2 tone paths doesn't mean it has 2 processors, it doesn't. If you open it up and peek inside you'll see just one Sharc processor in there. Also, with the improvements in the sound on the X3, Line 6 told us that the modelling was improved to take advantage of the processing power and the digital sample rate, this too would chew up a big chunk of processing power. The POD X3 has all the bass and vocal stuff in there already. It handles 8 tracks of digital data out the USB port at a high sample rate, more grunt gone on that too.

So, I am guessing that when the code cutters got hold of the hardware, they packed as much into the unit as the hardware could handle without leaving much room for any extras.

Where that leaves us is quite simple. We say thanks for making the POD X3 so much better than the PODxt, but if it's possible, could we see some of the new effects that have been developed for the M13 included in the POD X3?

It doesn't hurt to be polite. My parents taught me to say "please".

There are a few sites that gather patches/scenes like www.vettaville.nl but there are a very few.

Just wondering about anyone using an XT Live infront of an amp for live gigs, how do you tweak it?

ie.. do you use the xt eq and keep the amp flat, or tweak the amp too?

running my xt live infront of my 'frankenstien' vetta doesnt work well.. and i dont trust our local venues to run direct out to p/a.

how can u tweak the xt and the head to get a good output?

im considering getting hold of a Crate Powerblock to run the xt into my randall 2x12.. either that or borrow a mates Mode4..

either way.. getting a good signal from the amp is tough.. any tips?

Pod 2.0 to laptop connection freak-out and frustration!

I have been trying to download Line6 edit and Line6 Monkey, and I am way past frustrated. One of the main reasons I bought the Pod 2.0, was to go online and download custom tones. I can't even get the edit and monkey software to load...keeps asking me to make sure I am connected to the Internet because Java runtime environment needs to be installed, or to connect my Pod to my computer; I am, it is, but it won't.

...$200 for this Pod, and then I find out I have to buy a MIDI to USB cable in order to use it with my computer (seriously, how hard would it have been to have a freakin' USB port on the Pod 2.0? Should I really have to pay $300 for the Pod XT to have it. Come on, seriously???!!!). I'm a little annoyed until I find out the cable costs about 50 bucks, and "a little annoyed" turns into: really, really annoyed. I mean, come-on, 3 more cables and I could have bought another Pod 2.0!!

I've downloaded installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled edit, monkey, Java, and JRE a dozen times. I even completely reinstalled Windows XP on my computer to start fresh. NOTHING WORKS AND YOUR SUPPORT INSTRUCTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND INCOMPLETE!!!

Now, having said all this, I love the Pod 2.0 itself...great sounds. But can someone please help me GET THIS THING HOOKED UP AND TALKING TO MY PC BEFORE I GO COMPLETELY NUTTS?

Some Experiment using M13 as Midi foot controller

Well after a bit of work i realized this:

1) the M13 can work as a Midi Foot Controller

2) it works going on scene set up, at that point if u switch scene by scene than some other effect connected via midi change his preset till number 12

3) the limit it is u can have only 12 switch possibilities because at same time u can have only 12 scene viewable, u can change folder only going on knobs but in a live situation its not handable ofc, so the story of 48 scene its true only considering them as in studio use, (i have not understood how to change solder only going by foot switchs)

4) so if i have understood well i can use 12 scene at same time, selecting it the midi controller give at someother midi unit connected the right program till n.12 meantime u can arrange all the effects u want on the M13

Now a big tip for LINE6, please in the next firmware update create a way to control all the 48 scenes using the foot switches of M13 or create a new way to change folder.

Could be useful a function to go next, scene by scene and reverse.

If this function exists already than help me to find it

Digidesign Eleven Rack is out, what next from Line 6?

Digidesign brought out the Eleven Rack and I'm wondering what Line 6 will show up next.

Although much stuff one can do with the Eleven Rack also may be done with Line 6 stuff, there are some things only the Digidesign box can do and they say it sounds better. On the other hand it has less amp models and there's no floorboard for example and it costs a little bit more, but then also includes a version of Pro Tools, so I maybe beates the price you will have to pay for a X3 pro and some professional recording software.

M13 is nice, but.....

After being let down by a lot of 19" fx units I would like to know if the M13 is ever going to go 19". I am a fan of the Pro Series Line 6 used to make. The M13 (M19 Pro could be a good name) could replace these. Is there any chance this is going to happen..? Line 6 has the good interface and sounds to make it work. It would make minced meat of a G-Major imho. And I would buy one to clean up my rack!

I think I may have an unwinnable situation here. I get alot of hum whenever I plug in my PODxt to my computer via usb.
I can alleviate these problems by

Removing power from the laptop and having it run on battery power alone (I've tried different outlets and different power strips)

Not using a tone setting with a lot of overdrive

unplug the usb (duh), but that makes recording slightly impossible (I think)

If I touch either pickup (humbucker) the hum goes away

I've done some reading, and appears as though this is a ground loop issue that there isn't a solution for (or one I found)
Granted I am on some heavy meds and my focus isn't the best.
Now this does not happen on all guitars equally

So, does anyone know how I can have my USB and eat it too?

UX1 MIC INPUT NOISE

My MIC entrance in my UX1 makes a lot of noise for itself, even if i have nothing plugged to it!!

Here are the printscreens (again, nothing plugged into MIC)... the noise is, as you can imagine, quite a lot, especially because the only way of hearing myself decenlty without licking the microfone is pushing up the gain up to almost 10dB.

0dB - 7dB - 8dB - 9dB - 10dB -

Please note the noise is independant from the setup i choose, it appears in the dry input as you can see. My guitar input works perfeclty, without any noise, wich makes this even stranger

1) do the combos run hot? i know that the modeling portion of the amp is essentially a computer, and we all know computers like to run cool. wouldn't feel very confident about the amp's longevity if it's constantly running hot.

2) will my mk1 shortboard work with this amp? if so, will i be able to do looping w/it?

3) any way to save programs? i know there's no Line 6 Edit support. not sure if there's some other way?

4) is the cabinetry plywood, or particle board/mdf? i saw that the 412 cab is plywood so i'd like to think that that's the case w/the combos.

5) aside from the two preamp tubes and maybe different presets, what's the difference between the mk2's and the originals? features aside, is this newer version supposed to sound better?

TonePort DI-S No Sound

I just received my TonePort DI-S from my GuitarPort bundle. I installed all of the software. I have the TonePort plugged in. I have a green light. I have re-installed drives more than once. I have restarted the computer more than once. I have switched USB port, computer front panel not a hub. I have all of the up to date Drivers, USB, Gear Box, etc.

I am getting no sound through my computer speakers from the Guitar. I see needles moving on Gear Box. I have twisted knobs, pushed buttons, tried combinations of things. I can hear the video tutorials played from the embedded browser at the bottom of gear box just fine.

I know there is something super simple that I am not seeing here. Why can't I hear my guitar played through my PC speakers?

Direct Monitoring Problem

I am unable to enable "direct monitoring" in cubase. I have only acquired the PODFarm plugin recently so I didn't notice this before. This was happening under cubase 3 sx and now under 5. All steinberg has to say about it is the driver doesn't support it. This is highly frustrating! I have reinstalled all line6 software/drivers and the cubase 5 is a fresh install.

Any ideas?

Tried to download Java Environment on SunnSystems webpage, it says concerning Apple MAC System/OS

that the java on MACOSX is included and should check MAC UPDATE for the plateform but it cant find anything new or updates.

In U2 'emulations' lots of people write to set a digital delay as a dotted eight note.

When using knob 2 I can set a numeric amount or a dotted note.

I cannot find a description of the symbol that represents the dotted eight.

Can anybody tell me what the notes represent in human language ?

Upgrade not working properly

I have a podxt live which is 4yrs old now. The problem that i am facing is that when i upgraded its flash memory with the newer version, line6 edit showed me the added amps and all but the thing is the patches dont work properly anymore. The reverb and delay didnt work for any settings. So i again rollbacked my version and now the delay and reverb are working properly and line6 is showing the earlier no. of amps.

so your telling us that we have to use the pod farm or some audio software to hear the line inputs on the kb37? this again is misleading in your advertising. and if I use podfarm I am getting distortion on the line in even when I delete all amps and other devices from the podfarm audio chain. I also don't get a dry channel it still runs through the amps or whatever else is in the audio chain. also I am using the line 1 and 2 inputs, why am I getting audio on the 3 and 4? I am not using an spdif input????

Recording vids directly to PC using Mic or USB plug

Hey I was wondering if this question/issue has came up in the past. I am trying to record a vid for youtube using my POD x3 live by using the webcam software provided with my PC. When I record direct, (mic or USB connection), there seems to be an audio clipping/dropout/chopping going on. I have adjusted the recording volume and that has cured the clipping issue so it records the full spectrum of the sound but it hasnt fixed the other problem. The volume dips on the recorded track and does not stay consistent. I think I have found a way to circumnavigate this issue but its somewhat of a headache by recording the video on mute and recording the track on Audacity Beta 1.3 (which is an awesome software!!) and then using windows movie maker to combine the two to overlay the tracks. If you have any ideas on how to remove that step I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

PS When is line 6 going to produce a cabinet/amp to support the POD family similar to the Tech 21 and the Atomic? You guys make great amps and modelers and I think you are really missing out on a great market niche.

I purchased a Pocket POD a few weeks ago. I have registered it to my account and it appears in my account correctly (see attached image: line6_registration_page.jpg Note: username in web account & Monkey the same; serial number blurred out intentionally). I used the Serial # from inside the battery compartment. When I launch Line 6 Monkey v1.31 and log into my account, it give me a dialog box stating, "It appears you have not registered your Pocket POD with your user account." (see attached image: line6_pocketmonkey.jpg). If I click "Register Now...", it takes me to my account page where it shows my device registered to my account. I followed your FAQ and ensured my serial number was in the form 'XXXNLNNNNNNNNNN'. I have tried the following with no success:

Logged out of Line 6 Monkey and log back in.
Waited 1 week to see if the serial number just needed time to associate.
Installed latest version of Line 6 Monkey on a different computer.
Deleted my registered device and re-registered it.

Current state of affairs: My device is currently registered to my account through the website, however Line 6 Monkey still shows it as unregistered.

Although the device is not registered it has allowed me to update to the latest firmware: 1.01, however I would like to ensure that my device is properly registered.

OS Info:

I have tried on 2 different machines running:

Windows Vista x86_32bit Professional and Ultimate.
Both are single boot systems.
The POD is recognized on both systems.
The Vyzex editor recognizes the device and I can control the POD through it.
Both machines are Intel Core 2 Duo, but running 32 bit versions of OS.
Both machines have 3 2.0 USB ports. I am connecting the POD directly to the computer.

UX8 turns on, cannot connect, and can't turn off

Hello,

I have a UX8 that suddenly stopped working, when i pluged a guitar in INST, port 1

What happened, is that the UX suddenly froze, some clip lights were on, others were dim red, it simply felt like my system was twitching.

So i tried to turn it off, but it didnt work.

I unpluged it and when I pluged it back in and turned it on, the clip lights were going form left to right ( the two clip lights next to the meters were not on nor were they flashing).

and i cannot turn it off, so I have to unplug it again..

I thought it was a tough piece of hardware..

Can anybody please tell me what has gone wrong?

Firmware Corrupted on Variax500?

I tried to install Workbench with my PODXT Live and Variax 500 connected. The installation failed and I then noticed that my XTLive had frozen. Unplugging the variax un-freezes the POD. Line Monkey also no longer sees the variax.

I posted a thread (11-04-2009) and tried all the advice with no success. As the axe was only a few weeks old and thus under guarentee I returned it to the Dealer for repair.

After three months at a 'Jack of all trades' repair facility ( No disrespect intended) that does Line6 repairs for the agent and dealer, I asked to have my ghit returned so that I can have a look at it myself (Retired Electronic Engineer). He told me that there were 4 more Variaxes that had been in for repairs for like forever.

He had them all recalled and I managed to repair them all in one day. 3 were as a result of simple bad connections, 1 had a short circuiting track on the rj-45 output assembly but sadly I could not repair my 500. Through a process of illimination with parts from another 500 I determined that the fault is definitely on the mainboard.

I have now found another thread from another person who encountered a similar problem after a failed upgrade using a PODXT Live and it turned out that the Variax fimware had been corrupted during said failed upgrade.

"This sounds a lot like what happened to me...ie I used the POD XT Live to update my Variax 500...it failed. My Variax couldn't be 'seen' after that. Line 6 UK now want at least £60 to reflash the little AM29LV200B IC on the mainboard"

As you must have gathered, No we don't have a bona fida, dedicated Line6 Service Centre in South Africa. Any Suggestions?

Variax Ethernet Connection

I have a problem with the connector in the guitar. The plastic that holds the jack to the body of the guitar cracked and broke, so the jack floats inside. Because of this, I think, everyonce in a while the guitar will cut out and will not be seen by the podxt. I unscrewed the connector on the guitar and tapped the jack where it was broke to help make it more solid. It worked great for a day and then it started cutting out again. Is there any way I can get hold of the jack and the little circuit board that it connects to? It's out of waranty and I'm technically inclined enough to replace these parts. Thanks

VYZEX Editor Screen - Not able to see all items

Is this standard as I am using it on a notebook. Are there any planned updates? Can you use gearbox with the pocket POD?

I installed Line 6 Edit version 3.02(which says "This version of Line 6 Edit is compatible with JRE 6") on a Windows 7 32bit PC. I also installed the Java environment JRE 6 Update 16.

I'm getting "Could not find valid Java runtime" error message when I launch Line 6 Edit.

Any idea on how i could resolve this issue?

Monkey doesn't show Pocket POD 1.01 flash update

Hello,

I'm a customer from Germany and bought a Pocket POD back in December, 2007.

Today I read about the 1.01 flash upgrade for my Pocket POD and downloaded the Monkey software v1.31.

I connect my Pocket POD to the power adaptor first and after this connect it to my PC with the Line 6 USB cable, no other cables are connected to the POD.

The POD works fine with the Vyzex v1.17 software, so I launched the Monkey (after closing the Vyzex software). It connects to my Line 6 Account but shows "There are no updates available" :-(

The Pocket POD is registered within my account and the Monkey doesn't show any message about device registration either.

The POD shows "Version 1.00" at startup...

X3 Live 8000900C error

I am having the 8000900C error between my X3 Live and my windows XP laptop. It worked without problems when I last connected them a few weeks ago. Hola como les va? soy otro feliz poseedor de un Pod X3, y tengo una duda. No logro conseguir sonidos realmente limpios, con la simulacion del Roland JC120. Me llama la atencion, probe dejar solo el amp, y la simulacion de cajas. Con el gain en 1 e igual sigue distorsionando. Sera un problema de mi pod? o alguna mala configuracion?

Probe tambien bajar el volumen de mis pickups, (EMG 81). Y el "problema" continua.

Tambien tengo el pod totalmente actualizado con el Monkey.

Hum and Noise, Noise and Hum

This has probably been discussed many times , but I can't seem to find the answers.

Just got a X3 Live this weekend.

Using a Strat, thru headphones, or through a mackie mixer .... I'm getting a TON of Noise and Hum on pickups 1-3-5. So much so that most patches/presets are unusable due to the xtreme noise. A few presets even exhibit extreme noise using pickup positions 2 and 4.

I've also tried my humbucker guitar and it's a little better, but still more noise than a normal stage setup using a real amp. Waaayyy too much noise.

I've tried several different outlets throughout my house and it stays the same. I would certainly not be able to play this thing out live with this much noise and not being able to use pickups 1-3-5

Any ideas or solutions will be hugely appreciated. Thank you,

Variax 700 will not stay in tune?

I have a variax 700, I usually use slinky 9 / 42 strings and have my tremolo setup floating. I'm a college lecturer / recording engineer who has also set up guitars for over 20 years. The variax is a superb guitar in every way, apart from the most basic aspect........it will not stay in tune. I hope the guys at line 6 read this because it is staggering that such an amazing instrument has such a massive flaw. (the size of this massive flaw cannot be exagerated. A guitar which will not stay in tune is useless).

The problem only exists if the tremolo is set to float (the whole point of a great tremolo like the LR Baggs unit....and the whole point of buying a variax 700 as opposed to the much cheaper 300). After using the tremolo, the tuning will be raised or lowered.....it will not come back to the correct pitch....ever. If you dive bomb or even just dip the pitch of a note on any string.....on releasing the tremolo bar the guitar will be flat by up to -12 cents. If you pull back on the tremolo bar to raise a note and then release the bar, the tuning will be up to 12 cents sharp. An interesting point is if you tune the guitar and play without tremolo......perfect tuning. This means the problem is not the machine heads.

Many people on the forums have suggested to each other the following, but I think I have found the reason....and nobody is going to like the answer.

Lube the nut - This in reality is not a solution. A well crafted nut will not need lube. The 'bone' nut on the variax 700 is not bone...a synthetic bone substitute maybe, but not bone. I've seen other people describe it as chewing gum it is so soft.

File / reduce the depth of the nut - At 5 mm the string contact with the nut is too great. Using a file to reduce this contact area down to 2.5mm is a good idea.

Install a new nut - a Gibson type drop in from graphtech or an earvana nut (£35 option).

Install a set of locking machine heads - Reducing the winds on the tuning post to a half turn improves tuning stability (£60+ option).

Increase string tension - changing to a heavier set of strings eg from a set of 9s to 10s (£5 option).

Increase spring tension - making sure you use all 3 springs on the rear of the tremolo.

Cut the 'condoms' off the springs - Variax is the first guitar i have ever seen with these fitted to the springs. I would love to know why they are fitted (Health & safety?) as you cannot operate the tremolo at all with them on.

The first thing I had to do setup wise was cut the plastic 'condoms' off the springs in the tremolo as they do not allow the tremolo to operate (literally) without a horrible crunching sound and feel. I have shaped the nut.....no difference. Tried heavier strings and resetup the guitar.....no difference. I usually use a set of 9s with 2 springs on the tremolo, so i tried a set of 10s with both 2 springs and then 3 springs on the tremolo.....no diference.

The problem seems to be constant no matter what you do to fix it in the area of machine heads / nut / strings and springs. The problem lies with the electronic cables connecting the tremolo/piezos to the brain unit in the guitar. If you look at the back of the tremolo with the cover removed you will see a thin cable and a ribbon cable attached to the tremolo. These cables go around the tremolo unit and through a hole in the body of the guitar to the brain section PCB.

If you watch the back of the tremolo closely as you operate it through its full range, first one way and then the other, you will notice the unit never returns to it original position due to the resistance of the cables/electronics. The stiff cables are in contact with the tremolo.

This is a serious flaw in the design of the instrument. A smaller light weight / very flexible connection between the tremolo PCB and the Brain PCB, which stays close to the base plate of the tremolo (which moves a short distance) and out of the way of the block/springs (which move a great distance) is needed.

The result of trying to acheive tuning stability with the tremolo floating, would for the average guitarist result in an extra £100 minimum to the price of the instrument, plus around another £100 in repeated setups and fitting of parts. Only to realise it is never going to happen.

This is a major disapointment as I have been sold a product which is superb in one way (sounds) and totally useless in another (staying in tune)....It is not fit for it's purpose!

I would love a reply from line 6 on this as the 700 is a professional instrument at a price of around £1000. I think line 6 know about this problem. None of the videos demonstrating the instrument on the line 6 website have any use of the tremolo unit. It is probably the reason why the guitars come with the tremolo mounted flat against the body when you buy them.

I would also like to know the purpose of the spring condoms?.....was that a bodge to help tuning stability?....in 30 years of playing guitar and 20 years of setting them up professionally I have never....ever seen any other guitar with these things fitted to the strings.

Come on line 6 guys, have the balls to reply to the customers who have commited to buying the flawed product and time/upgrades, searching for a variax 700 that stays in tune.

hello everybody @ line6 as a line 6 freak - not since the very first hour, but since i bought a pod xt live - i am now a proud owner of the pod x 3 live. i play it through a marshall 9100 poweramp and a hughes&kettner vintage 4x12 box. when i had to find a subject for a research work that i have to do for my diploma at the SAE in zuerich, switzerland, i came up with the idea of comparing a marshall jcm 900 with both the clean- und dist-channel-emulation in the pod x 3. my plan is to compare the pure pod sound with the pod played through the poweramp and the jcm 900 box, and to compare these with the real amp. i intend to really test the pod out, listening, measuring, comparing waveforms etc. empirically i would expect the pod to do a real good job in this challenge! it is clear to me, that you can't reveal your business secrets just for the success of my work, but... here is my question: could you help me with some deeper insights into the principles that are applied in the pod x 3? could you eventually give me more informations about how the models are designed? ... if it has something to do with convolution or whatever? are there books about programming audio dsp which could help me to understand better how the pod really works? I stopped by on my lunch hour to just to fool around and see what they had in the used section. I saw a used JVM210H there and thought I'd give it a run with a nice looking used LP Studio. With head/cab combos I always check to see if the cab is properly hooked up because 9 times out of 10, it isn't. This was no exception. The speaker cable was hooked to 16 ohm on the head and 4 ohm on the cab. So I fixed that.

Turned it on, warmed it up and kept the master volume way down. Went off standby and it was quiet. Really quiet. Turned up the master a little more. Still very quiet. Turned up the channel volume halfway. Still quiet. Turned up the master to 5. Still lower than bedroom level. Really? For a 100 watt tube head?

Sales dood said he didn't think there was anything wrong with the head. Really? I turned up all volumes to max. Still lower than bedroom level. Well, he said, maybe the tubes are bad but it still sounds decent. Really? I have distortion pedals that sound better than this.

Bottom line, don't believe a thing a GC employee tells you. Especially about used gear.

Spider Valve MKii - Mesa and Agro (Metal) models compared to original

Is it me, or does anyone else think that the Mesa and Agro (orange and blue metal) models are better on the original Spider Valve. I spent over an hour with the MKii 112 today in the loud room at GC. The new amp models, effects, and controls were all excellent. However, the aforementioned models did not sound near as good to me as they do on the original SV. I've A/B'ed them, and the original models are much stronger and clearer. The original mesa model retained much more note definition and clarity. The new model sounded muddier. The agro (blue metal) sounded quite a bit weaker to me on the MKii than on the original.

I noticed the same differences on the regular Spider III vs Spider IV as well.

I gig regularly with my Spider Valve, and I couldn't wait for the MKii. These two models are a deal-breaker for me though. I use these two models during many parts of my gigs, so this becomes a deal-breaker for me. Sucks too, because I love everything else about it.

Any thoughts?

After not using my recording/practicing computer for a long time, I blew the dust off and fired her up again, but the old UX2 drivers didn't want to load for some reason. Long story short, all that's fixed, and I'm now running the 3.4.3.8 driver, 1.01 firmware, and Monkey 1.31.

The only question is whether there's any benefit to updating the old Gearbox from 1.02 (yeah, it's been a really long time... lol) to the latest 3.70. Are there any improvements to be gained in terms of functionality, stability, etc.? Or is it just simply a huge, unified driver that I don't need which includes all other Line 6 products?

Sorry if this question is a bit esoteric, but 1.02 seems to work fine, so in this case I'm somewhat of a believer in "if it ain't broke, dont fix it". Anyone happen to know?

Pod X3 Live trouble to connect under windows via USB

Hi folks !

I'm a newbie here and it's the first time I'm buying a line 6 product.

So I have a Pod X3 Live. I want to connect it to my computer which is under Windows Vista 32. With Monkey all stuff is up to date (driver, firmware, etc...).

The Line 6 sound card is well detected by windows and used as default.

At first, I can not hear any music when I use windows media player, so it's very difficult to configure Cubase LE 4.

Does anybody have an information to help me ?

Is there a well known issue upon this point ?

Does my gear have a trouble ?

Hey, guys, hopefully someone will see this eventually and check out the recording of my band's song Shudder.

The reason I created this is that the other recording groups were basically about home recording and I wanted a place where you could post clips of your band's recordings. All the guys in bands need a place to show off their tunes as well.

Hopefully, there are some like me, who are recording their band themselves and can ask advise and spread some knowledge about the whole process.

All that being said, check out Shudder. We recorded all the tracks at my drummers apartment and I took them home, brought them into Sonar and started mixing and this is the result so far. The vocals are going to be redone-we may go to a pro studio for the vocals. I actually screwed up the first time I mixed this and put the vocals in the wrong place, but I like the result so much I brought it to the band and I think we're going to use this version. Originally, the vocals come in much earlier.

Please give some constructive criticism. There's always work to be done, but I think we're pretty close with this.

I just bought a Spider Valve 112, I have been trying to record via the direct out but I am not succeding. I wonder if I am doing somthing wrong.

my chain: Spider XLR out to a litte Behringer mixboard channel 1 the volume and the gain on the mixboard are set to 9/10. Master volume in the spider valve is set to 12 o´clock and the channel volume to 3 o´clock. I am not getting any sound from the spiders direct out.

I also wonder if it´s possible to record in silence, I mean without the spider sounding thru the built-in vintage 30 speaker.

I can't seem to get the "Collections" feature of Vyzex Editor working.

I can open the Collection View in Vyzex Editor. I can add tone patches to the Collection View, and they appear in the list. But when I quit Vyzex Editor, the Collection View pane is always empty the next time I start the program. What could be causing this?

I'm using Vyzex Editor 1.17 on a current model MacBook Pro (Mac OS 10.5.7). I'm using this with a Pocket Pod with firmware 1.01.

spider valve with svpre having issues.

I was having issues with my spider valave a couple of weeks after the install of my SVPRE (wich I love by the way) thought it might have been the ribbon cable punch down.

Turns out it was the 1/4 jack on the front of the amp not tighted firmly...just snugged it . This caused the board and ribbon cable to "flex" when I plugged it the cable. I found this out by taking apart the cabnet and watching the connector as I plugged in my instument. After tightning with a wrench, no flex...no noise issues. everythings perfect in my amp universe once again.

I recently purchased a Spider Jam Amp. Is the FBV Express MkII the best pedal available for this?

Or am I the only one that doesn't understand why so many people are so enraged by the new forum layout that they are leaving? There's people actually wanting to sell their gear because there aren't "pure" forums for their product anymore? Just like the title says, I wanted to know if I plug in my electric keyboard or bass guitar into my XT, will it damage the input jack or something else? My keyboard has a 1/4" phones/output jack that I would use to run keyboard -> XT -> computer. I use an atomic amp but I won't have it connected when I do this so I'm not worried about amp damage. My concern is if the XT's input is capable of handling the keyboard output. I also want to do the same thing with my bass guitar. Also, my electric keyboard has drums that I enjoy playing and I would want to record them as well. I have a Casio WK-3000 in case you need to know that.

Well I finally figured out my first problem, that was caused by having the device plugged into a hub.

So on to my second problem, again everything has been updated and computer meets specifications.

Now, everything is showing that the connections are good, and the pod shows up when I start Line 6 Edit, but when the Tone Locker tries to connect I am getting a midi timeout. At the same time the process bar is showing it trying to connect the display on the pod fade in and out not completely out just dim a little.

Something wrong with my SV112

Something happened while I was just going through my presets. I had my FBVSB attached to the amp and all of the sudden the volume on the amp spiked up high. Tried to change patches from the FBVSB and it wouldn't. Turned down the channel volume and it went down. Then it slowly rose and fell in volume a couple of times. Turned the amp off and turned it on again and everything appeared fine for a bit.

Now when playing it seems like I've lost a good bit of volume. Normally, anything past 9:00 on the master would shake my room. Now I can turn it up to 12:00 and it's loud, but not deafening like it normally would be. It also seems like I've lost a good bit of low end.

Normally, I'd say power tube going bad. But what about the funkiness with the DSP earlier? Maybe a combination of both? I'm guessing I need to schedule a service appointment. I am under warranty. Bought the amp on Jan 16th of this year. I think I'm out of warranty on the tubes, though. But they shouldn't have gone this soon. I don't have that many hours on the amp.

Studio UX2 and Pod Farm - Freezes my computer

I was trying to install my new Studio UX2 and Pod Farm.

I downloaded the latest Pod Farm for Snow Leopard and it keeps coming up with an error message:

The System extension "/System/Library/Extensions/Line6Audio.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update.

What does it mean? I downloaded the latest driver as well from the "Downloads" and it came up with the same message.

Also, as soon as I plug in the Studio UX2, it freezes my system straight and I have to Force Shut Down.

Can anyone tell me why it happens?

This will make the issue easier for us to look into. Below is a template containing some questions. What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?

When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?

How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?

Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?

Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)

Hopefully we can use this thread to spot some trends. Thanks for you cooperation everyone.

I noticed that my SV112 got even more brittle after the installation of the SVpre. I had to set Presence knob at "zero" but with very little effect . The amp squeals when I switch to RED push. Has anyone here experiencing same issues?

I contacted Strymon support but they're closed. They won't be able to respond until the week of June 15th.

Display has solid black bar on top line and shows Tone2 name below it.

I just updated my firmware to the latest version. Fixed an issue where I couldn't toggle between Tone1 and Tone2. But now I have new problems.

When editing, I've found that sometimes when I click stompbox (or engage the Wah, or mod, or delay) the Tone2 light turns off and the display shows black bar on top line and still shows Tone2 name. So I see the name for Tone2, but it seems I might be actually in Tone1 (or neither). Where the name for Tone1 would be, it's just all blacked out.

At that point engaging or disengaging any of the effects (stompbox/mod/delay) doesn't seem to do anything. I have to either switch to another patch, or toggle Tone1/Tone2 back and forth to get back.

It's getting very frustrating when trying to edit patches because of this glitch. It did not used to do this before the update.

It's also begun to change screens sometimes while I'm editing. I read in another post a suggestion to move all pots and park them, which is good advice for minor corrosion and buildup on the pots. But I didn't have this problem at all before the update, and now it's happening a lot.

I'm afraid that it seems I've traded one problem for two other problems.

Any help, or ideas, or ways to fix these problems?

Pod Studio UX1 Not Working With Windows 7

I've gone through all of the support FAQs/discussions so this is a last-ditch attempt. I am getting sporadic performance from the UX1 on my laptop (brand new, core i7 processor, Win7, 4g ram). Playback stutters, system sounds only happen sometimes (e.g. - running the "test" function on the sound devices control panel only plays sounds less than half the time) - thus I know it's not an issue with my DAW software. Following the manual and support FAQs, I have:

1. disabled antivirus

2. disabled all wireless/bluetooth network adapters

3. disabled the computer's sound card

4. adjusted sound settings (buffers, size, etc.)

Still, the stuttering problem when playing back and the sporadic appearance of system sounds persists. I have the latest Line6 drivers and software. Any other tips?

Hey all, I saw a post about Electro-Harmonix making some cool sounds of other instruments this morning. Thought I'd fool with my M13 to see what it can do.

Got a cool organ sound (because this uses the filter settings it's a one-note at a time setting):

FX1: Synth-O-Matic--- Freq: 70% / Q: 0% / Wave 1 / Pitch: 50% / Mix 100%

(FYI: the wave setting can change the type of "organ-like" sound, pitch should be 50 to equal the pitch of the guitar otherwise it is not truly the same note, if you lower the mix you can "tune" the pitch by comparing the wet and dry signals for equality)

FX2: Smart Harmony--- Maj or Min scale / Key A / +3rd shift / Mix 50%

(FYI: obviously the scale and key can be changed for your application, i like to save my harmonizers in different scales/keys to the 6 buttons in FX units 2&3 for more options in the same general sound)

FX3: Smart Harmony- repeat as for effect 2 for more key/scale options--REMEMBER only run one at a time

Otherwise you can place the chorus from FX 4 in FX3 and add a delay or reverb in the open FX4 slot

how important are the non-pickup characteristics of normal guitar for the Variax sounds?

Example: Are the resonance of the variax body the amount and richness of overtones which the Variax body & strings generate (BEFORE the modeling) important for the Variax sounds or are those characteristics modeled as well?

These are questions which a normal guitar would address with its body, kinds of woods, neck-construction (mount or thru etc.) etc.

But I have no idea, how important those things are to the Variax sound. If they are not important for sound then it becomes merely a question of playing comfort

There are already a lot of threads about using expression pedals and footswitches for the POD Studio devices and the POD Farm software. Still, I am confused and also have some additional questions. I cannot just try things out, since I currently do not own any Line 6 equipment but am considering buying some. I hope there will also be answers from the Line 6 team.

From skimming parts of the GearBox manual, I conclude that you can use any third party MIDI controllers for expression pedals and footswitches. Correct?

Can you do the following:

At the same time:
- Record the dry guitar signal
- Record the MIDI commands (e.g., wah-wah positions)
- Play back from DAW
- Listen to the processed guitar signal nearly latency-free, including the parameter changes induced by the MIDI commands (e.g., listen to the guitar sound as if played with normal wah-wah + amp combination)
And then, after recording:
- Change the MIDI commands (e.g., correct wah-wah positions)
- Listen to the processed guitar signal (and/ or record it), including the parameter changes induced by the MIDI commands (e.g., listen to the guitar sound as if recorded with normal wah-wah + amp combination)

Regarding MIDI control, will POD Farm work like GearBox when the MIDI features have been implemented in the future?

Hi, as the title says, Im trying to record with a Line 6 Pod X3 Live into a Windows Vista OS, using Cakewalk Music Creator 2 software to record with. My setup is as follows: Schecter Damien-FR plugged into the guitar input on the X3 Live. Then I have the USB cable plugged into the USB jack on our CPU. The issue is, that the computer/software wont recognize the device as an MIDI input, it just uses it as a MIDI out. Is there a way I can use it as a MIDI input? Also, Is there another recording software that I could use thats available for download online? Or could someone walk me through this?

Please help me out, Im not sure what Im doing. Thanks

Hello,

I've got a problem with my JM4 Looper:

I wanted to upgrade the Firmware from 2.00 to the latest 2.09..

So i downloaded the update and put it on my SD card (I tried a Panasonic 2GB Class 4, and a hama 2GB Class 2; both were formattet correctly with FAT (def) in windows, the checksum on the SD was also correct).

So i got into the menu, selected "upgrade" and he cleared his memory and didn't accept the SDcard anymore ..

However, i tried again and again (also with other cards, few times formatted) and he tells me "booting from SD-Card" ..

Right now it stands there for over half an hour, and i can even remove the card without getting an error...

So what can i do?

I can't tell if I have a hardware (flaky button, twisty know, button) or soft/firm-ware issue. I *seems* to have appeared after a recent fw update, but can't be positive of that.

Symptoms:

Pressing BANK DOWN (bottom left footswitch button) should scroll to the next numbered sequence ( i.e. 21A --> 22A, etc). Nothing happens when I press it, as if the button is disabled (broken)

Patch shows on LCD screen, then flashes over to AMP/CAB page and 'virtual' knobs start spinning, as if possessed by a demonic MIDI controller (there are none, unless we have gone wireless and I missed the memo)

When it gets to *some* semblence of stablized...I might click the STOMP to engage the distortion. Double-tap to edit, takes me back to AMP/CAB screen again. Pressing RT-Arrow (on circle button) will take me back to Distortion page, but unless I immediately spin the selection dial, it falls back to the AMP/CAB screen. Buttons seem to only marginally function.

Is there a 'blow away the entire thing and set it back to the OLD OLD original factory settings, *inlcuding* old firmware, so that I can better pinpoint if this is a programmatic problem, or a physical hardware problem?

I have a gig tonight (Tuesday the 14th of April) If I can reset to factory -- if you think that will help -- I can get my patches rebuilt -- I've saved them all to my pc.

I am a new owner of the Line 6 HD147 and I was wondering if there were any suggestions on how to make an auxillary device such as an Ipod work with the HD147 in the same manner the 1/8" input does on the Spider series amps. I do not have a stereo for playback and always used the auxillary input on my old Spider III amp to play along with recordings, and I just became accustomed to this way of doing it. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated on how to defeat this issue.

POD X3 MIDI timed out messages 8000900C and 80007211

I purchased a POD X3 as a present for my wife earlier this month and she has been happily using it since. On Saturday I updated it to the latest flash (1.21) using Line 6 Monkey which was successful, backed it up using Monkey, and used Gearbox to look at the presets.

However, today I have tried to connect Gearbox and I keep getting an 8000900C MIDI timed out message. So I started up Monkey and saw that the flash revision was "unknown" so I attempted to reflash it and got an 80007211 MIDI timed out message. I have then spent far too long trying to debug the problem.

So far I have tried Monkey and Gearbox:

- with and without the FBV connected

- with and without the POD in "Safe Mode"

- using all the different USB ports (4 of them) on my laptop running XP

- tried a different laptop running Vista

and *all* of these fail with the same messages. Yet it used to work or else I would not have been able to upgrade it to the 1.21 flash release.

What now? I *really* don't want to have to tell my wife that it has to go to the service centre when she has only just got it!

Im Adam, and im planning to buy a studio GX interface. I am already using a guitar effects software (not line6) and im getting a very high latency (i plug my guitar straight into my motherboard's 'line in' ). If i buy a line6 usb interface, will i get a lower latency ? Because i belive if i play on a line6 usb thing, then that does the main processing, not my CPU . So i belive i will get lower latency then without a line6 interface, and just playing straight to the sound card. But im not sure, thats why im asking you about it.

Now that it is open we need to clip wires attached to pins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8...Yes, only 6 stays attached on one of the Y female RJ45s...hmmmm....

install the modified 8Y RJ45...booted blue runs to the FBV and the other (no boot) is running from the modified side to the Spider Valve 112...

So I call up 2a on my Shortboard...

Wow! That works...how about 2c?

The pictures above demonstrate using the two amps with the banks offset...You can acutally line up any bank to any bank which is you program you tones in a consistent mapping like A is always a clean tone, it opens up some possibilities...To line up the banks just navigate the SV to the bank the Flextone is on....This also works with a POD XT and there is no reason this should not work with an X3...

...Ok, looks like I will be moving some patches around after I rock out for a while...

Hey, I have a Line 6 POD Studio UX2, and also have a HP laptop. But everytime i got to use my UX2, theres big time glitches comming from my headphones. I tried everything that other people told me, and also what the manuels told me to do, i also called the support line, and still didnt help. So now im wondering if there something i can change in my computer, for it to not have any glitches sound? Because one of the guys told me from support is that POD studios dont work well with HP laptops, witch I find rediculouse, so any help would be awsome. Thanks.

DL4 delay pedal not turning on at all

Hi I have just purchased this DL$ delay pedal 2 weeks ago and it was working fine and then i went to plug into the pedal today and nothing. I assumed the batteries were dead so i put brand new batteries in the DL4 and still nothing. I Have got my guitar lead pluged into the mono/L input and my amplifier plugged into the Mono/L output as i did last week but now nothing, no lights show up no delay effects or anything? Has anyone experienced the same problem>?

Toneport DI - Gold vs iLok, How can I select which license to use

I own 3 PodFarm licenses (1xUx2, 1xTonport Gold, 1xiLok)

So the ilok version is the basic version, which i got when it was free, cause the toneport gold is annoying the hell out of me when traveling. Sadly I can't transfer my model packages to the ilok license.

But there's the horrible part: At home I have the toneport gold plugged in AND my ilok (due other licenses I need).

If I run PODFarm standalone I can get all my models (Gold). As soon as load the podfarm plugin in logic 9, it lists the iLok as authorized device. If I unplug the ilok it switches the DI-Gold, but as soon as I plug the ilok back in, it authorises of the ilok. (which reduces the number of amp models to min set)

So I need the ilok plugged for other purposes , but I still wanna use all the models.

How do I force the plug-in to the authorize of the dI-gold and let the ilok license in piece???

It is not helping if the pod farm plugin is automatically choosing the smallest license!

Or can I trade my basic ilok podfarm for ilok platinum and on the same token downgrade my DI-GOLD to silver - basically swap them ??

Howdy do,

I own Pod Farm Platinum for iLok. Does anyone have any recomendations for recording software that will allow me send the signal into my Pod Farm Platinum and hear it before I record it? I currently own Acid Pro 6 and I have a copy of Acid Studio Pro7. It seems that I can only apply effects to a track that has been recorded. There doesn't seem to be a way to play my guitar and monitor the effects with my Pod Farm Platinum iLok activated software. I connect my guitar using a Line 6 Guitarport. I also own an Alesis Multimix Firewire mixing board. Using either of these I can her my signal, but when I activate my Pod Farm Plat Plug-in It's still a clean signal. Is there a way to actually hear Pod Farm Platinum effects realtime monitoring before I record? I am a rookie. =)

Or maybe that's just how Pod Farm Plat iLok works? You can use it to apply to tracks already recorded? Maybe Acid Studio 7 just doesn't have that feature and maybe I should use different recording software? Any recomendations or advice would be cool. I am new at this.

My brothers and sisters in arms, I have a question for you all as metal musicians:

What is your writing process like?

This of course can stem out to how you get yourself inspired before a session, how you interact with your fellow musicians or bandmates, where you find your hands on your instrument - anything.

To me, it just seems something not often discussed since I'm sure we all do it so differently.

Personally, I'll admit that it's tough for me to get inspired to write something, but there's one place where it happens most - my car.

On a drive home, during my normal vehicular jam session, I'll hear something that'll stick out and make me think, "I need to write something at least fractionally as awesome".

From there, I get home and start play some scales and chords trying to get that "feel" that the lick from earlier gave me.

As a structure comes together, I invite my buddy Abe over to play some Bass and write a fullblown song.

I have no doubt that you ladies and gents have some more science to your method and I'm looking forward to hearing some of it. :]

Mixing down to a wave file

Everytime I try to mix down my song to a wave file I get a SD card write error. It won't transfer .JAM files either. I bought a new SD 2 gig card and formated it in my JM4 and still I can't write to it. I set the security tab so it is suppose to be writable. I even reset all the factory defaults and tried again to no avail...What am I doing wrong?

i have a really high gain patch in my X3L... and I'm sure I can hear a slight digital clipping going on... but my clip light doesn't come on...

so i know that there's certain FX's setups in my XT that used to sound like that and not show a clip light, whereas others would show the clip light... but the problem i have is that even if I turn up all the vol and gain knobs on an amp and stomp I can't get the clip light to show on my X3L.

I'm assuming it's broken, but does anyone know of an FX/amp combination on their X3 that will always get teh clip light on so I can test... I have high gain pickups in all my guitars so I have the power to clip... so to speak, lol

I had time to kill yesterday after work before heading to a band meeting so I poked my head into the bigger music stores in town to post some ads (looking for a new lead player). One that I went to is a large, non-chain store that generally thinks they are the city's gift to the music community. All the guitars bear tags that say "Do not touch - ask for assistance". Even the cheaper ones. Forget about playing a real LP or PRS unless you can demonstrate you have cash in hand. Piles of various lines of amplifiers are arranged in the center of the store: Mesa, Dr Z, 65 Amps...get the picture? Fender and Marshall are reserved small space next to the solid state Crates. None of the amps are being demonstrated. I almost never go there and nobody at the store knows me.

Anyway, a pretty nice sales dude (rare for this store) struck up a conversation over pedals and I wanted to try some out. Unfortunately they were out of stock on the two I'd like to try. During our talk, he asked what kind of amp I play through. Uh oh...here we go. I told him I have a Spider Valve HD100 and 112 combo. His response was along the lines of "yeah, those are pretty good starter amps, but not nearly the same quality or tone as a Mesa." I allowed that sure, you're not going to get Mesa quality from something costing so little.

He then told me that "those new Bogner amps from Line6 are pretty cool, though." Okay, dude...the Bogner amps ARE the Spider Valves. Oh really? Yeah, well, still, I don't think I'd be using something with a DSP in it in a live situation. And while he's saying this, he is walking me toward the door of the shop. He leaves me at the exit, but I've still got time to kill. So I say goodbye to him and amble back toward the amp section to check out some of the more obscure offerings they have.

Manager comes over to ask me if I need help. Nope, just browsing. Cool amp lineup you have here. Yeah, he says, we try. What kind of amp do you have now? Oh boy, here we go again. I have the head and combo versions of the Bogner/Line6 collaboration. Oh, he says, cool stuff. But if you're looking to get out of the bedroom and onto the stage then you really need something from Mesa.

This is where I almost lose my cool. Almost. I said, well, I haven't played in my bedroom for about 25 years now. And I already do play many of the larger stages in the tri-city area. And again, I find myself being walked to the front door. He says, yeah that's cool, I guess. Well, have a nice day...and I'm at the front door again.

Pod 2.0 - Noise every time "Tap(Hold)" button flashes

Hi, just a quick question. When the "Tap(Hold)" button flashes, there is a pulsing noise with each flash. Is there a way to eliminate that sound? The POD Version 2.0 has been great in the studio apart from that noise that is very distracting during quiet parts, so much so, that it makes the unit unusable. Problem getting flash drive update on vetta II combo

I have a m-audio uno MIDI interface cable with the latest drive version (5.2.3.016) for windows xp, the problem is I have tried numerous times to update the flash drive on my amp but when I get to the part where it is complete I hit the save button and nothing happens, I then power the amp off the on, still a blank screen. I have tried everything I can find on the web and everything else I can think of, Please if anyone has any ideas please let me know I am very frusterated that I can't play my amp... Thank You.

I'm thinking about getting the Spider Valve Mk II HD, but I won't be getting the line cab with V30's to go with the head. Does the SV mkii model cabinet sounds like many of the other line 6 products. I own (or have owned) the Flextone III XL ( which as a wonderful combo!), Vetta II, HD147, and the spider II. I hope it does not model cabs. I have had problems with the Vetta II and HD147 not sounding great with my two genz-benz g-flex cabs (even when I turn the cab models off).

I recently bought a Spider Valve 212. I honestly bought it strictly for the Cliffs of Dover preset. As soon as I bought it and got it home I saved the preset in the memory bank. Today I tried to make sure that the setting hadn't been changed so I compared the original preset location to what was saved in the channel.

The orginal present in the 90's memory bank no longer showed 'delay' as being an effect in the tone, instead the 'tape echo' lights up. It sounds nothing like the original setting.

I tried doing a factory reset and that just cleared out the channels where I had things saved, meaning I lost the Cliffs of Dover settings saved in the channel bank.

I really need that setting back in my amp.

Please tell me how this could have happened, and how to get it back.

I'm sorry for my bad english. I'll try to tell my problem.

I have pod x3 live. I use pod x3 with 5+1 sound system and 15w marshall amp. I downoaded a few samples from customtone. Those are very high gained and overdrived distortion tones (one of them is "Pantera" tone).

And.. my problem....

Firstable, i have to seperate this.. Distortion1 : this is what we want. The good distortion. We pay for this a lot of money..

Distortion2 : This is Bad! This is czzzzzz This is rustle....

Tone volume and master volume pot is on 4 (I mean 12 o'clock or North, ok?) - The sound is okay. Great distortion (distortion1)

But i turn it up. Tone volume and master volume is full. (last level) - The sound is distorted. (distortion2)

I know these.. The problem certainly not come from Soundsystem or amp. I tried every combinations. The problem is on pod.

I'm asking this. "Is this normal?" When i use very high gain samples, it's must be happen? Are all pods doing this or is my pod broken?

Hey guys just wanted to say what a great group this is to have! I am a worship leader at my church and am also in school to become a better one. I love having the advice of other worship leaders and musicians playing with the same gear (POD X3 Live) and finding out what works for them and what might work for me at my church!

Anyway i recently have come home from college and have started leading worship at my church again. The first few weeks back have brought awesome spirit filled services. Our services are what you might call blended with contemporary worship songs with a hymn thrown in. Recently i have been using my Fender Strat alot with my Pod and spicing up our services with some electric guitar for faster, more upbeat songs, and acoustic for slower, mellower songs. Up until this sunday i thought everything was going great with the new sound, until i was pulled aside by the pastor and was told that our services are too "Rocking" and that the volume of the electric guitar was too much and i needed to pull back and not play the electric guitar anymore aside from and occasional one song. This is very discouraging as a worship leader when your interuptted from taking a church one direction musically. I was wondering if anyone else experienced similar things and what you did about them? While i admit my ambitions might be selfish, i know there is away to have electric guitars work in churches, for i have seen this for myself many times. Thanks for your time reading this and any advice on the issue is greatly appreciated!

New POD X3 Live - presets seem corrupt

When the POD X3 Live came out a year ago, I was one of the first to buy it. Back then, I had issues where in the middle of a live performance, it would simply stop producing audio, so I returned it and stuck with my former setup for the past year. With pedals starting to wear out and amps not getting any lighter, I decided to give the X3 Live another shot. After getting the outputs set up and levels set, I began running through the presets. It appears that I'm getting some digital-sounding noises on most tones that use modulation effects. The firmware was at 1.15 when I got the unit, and through the Mac OS X version of Monkey, I flashed it up to 1.21 and updated to the latest drivers. This did not change the issue.

I've hread that there is a chance I will need to re-flash to 1.0 and then back to 1.21 to resolve this. Is that correct, or am i looking at something else going wrong here?

Ive been thinking about these and all the info ive seen on them looks, "Too good to be true".

Firstly the spider valve was always a good amp in theory. But as i found with the first, the sheer amount of processing inside the amp made it sound closer to solid state rather then the valve. Also, more on valves, if they truly wanted a flexible valve modeling amp, i dont think 6L6s for the power stage was a great choice, well by themselves atleast. Look a mesa road king (Or just about most of the mesa amps) they utilise both 6l6s and EL34s to give a more versatile sound, and imagine that, when programing your presents you can actually change the combination of type of valve being used. (I shouldnt give ideas like that for free!) however, theres no info i can find on the type of valve being used in the MK II so we could see something like this. (Mind you it probably would have been boasted about by line 6 if they did it).

Now then the spider IV i feel is just another bedroom guitarist amp, im sorry if thats a bit bitter but i do feel like they're they're beating a dead horse. Its just a bit updated and thats it, i thought it would have been better to focus on something more groundbreaking but hey ho, its probably their most profitable line so it does make sence for them to keep making them

In conclusion:

I dont want to seem bad this and bad that, but i would love to be proven wrong (By both amps) but just like the first spider valve which was, "over hyped" the MK II i have the feeling will have the same effect and as for the spider IV, i think its not gonna be anything, "Earth shattering".

In my opinion line 6 (If they want to make an insane valve amp) should start from the bottom up, find a great combination of pre amp tubes and power tubes then add some unique features, Such as the preset controllable valve changes i mentioned earlier, so i'll give you a good example to drive the point home.

Lets say we're making a 2x12 combo, with 3 12Ax7 for the preamp, 1 L6L GC, 1 EL34 and 1 EL84 for the power section. Now then, right there we already have something thats a lot different with three types of valve in that we will be able to assign to channels. Now, add say, a spring reverb on there, then MM4 modulations and an analog delay exactly after the preamp. Now, to take the heat up more, since theres already a valve switching system, why not be able to use two together in stereo. so there we've got three things thats not seen before in a valve amp, or very rare. Valve switching via a controller, three types of valve for ultimate versatility and stereo in a valve amp which is very rare. However its important that each part of the amp is kept as seperate as possible so not to make it sound too processed. I make it sound easy but its probably alot harder then i make out.

Love line 6, they go alot further then most companies which are afraid to step out of their own skin.

DL 4 not saving multi-head preset.

My DL 4 won't recall my multi-head presets. Though, if I have the expression pedal hooked up, it kind of snaps out of it, and 'remembers' what I had stored. The pedal is bought used, and is an old version, v1.6. Is there a way of updating the software somewhere? Could this take care of the problem?

No Sound: Toneport DI-G

Hello,

I have recently purchased a new Toneport DI-Gold. The program opens up and installs just fine, but when I proceed to plug in my guitar (which works on other amplifiers), I hear no sound. My guitar cord is brand new as well. I have installed all the latest drivers for the program, and done every update Line6 Monkey has to offer. I have checked to make sure that the USB drives are functional, as well as making sure the gearbox is using the sound card on my laptop for playback. My gear is registered, I have looked at threads for help, I have extensively read the PDF (though I may have missed something), and I am out of ideas. I have checked everything I can think of: my sound works, my headphones (should I choose to use them) work, and everything seems completely functional with the toneport. I am even considering setting it as my default speaker and buying a headphone adapter (size 1/4 inch) so I can plug into the toneport and listen directly from there. However, I don't want to have to do that.

I also feel it is important to let you know that the GearBox indeed detects my guitar: When I strum a note, it shows up on the meter, as well as on the tuner.

After running a compatibility check, everything passes but:

- the chipset (it says I may have limited privelages, but I doubt that means no sound)

- My processor, Intel(R) DuoCore P6800 @ 2.4GHz (I read from one of your support threads that I need not put too much weight on what the monkey says)

- Drive DMA mode (Apparently mine is in PIO, but I don't know how to change it. Perhaps the problem?)

I may be able to take into a different room and use it with a desktop for troubleshooting's sake, but it cannot stay there.

I am using a 2 month old dell laptop, with 32-bit version of vista.

I own Guitar Port Rifftracker for several years now.

After a period of trying to work with Riffworks, I gave up. I'm not the youngest user and like many others of my generation

I have many difficulties in managing digital programmes.

There was no user manual, the help of the Dutch importer was VERY friendly but much too fast for me.

So I closed the case, there was more to do in life than Riffworks!!

This week I made a re-start. Installed Riffworks for the second time and tried to climb the mountain again.

But how dissappointing this is........................

Isn't there any SIMPLE, STEP-BY-STEP method to learn how to do the most basic things?????

How to build a song with different riffs, how to save such a song, how to drag it to a cd etc.etc.

I tried "click here to see the overview movie" in Riffworks HELP but there isn't any audio...............HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POD Farm Plugin Audio Cuts In/Out When I Edit- But Works Otherwise???

I have a registered POD XT Live, which I use (as a dongle, effectively) with the basic POD Farm, which was a free download in September. When I instantiate the plugin inside Cubase (4.52), all is well. The sound is fine and works as it should.

THE PROBLEM: When I open the POD Farm Plugin GUI to change an amp tone, or otherwise edit the sound, I get audio dropouts lasting several seconds at a whack, interspersed with an occasional (brief) bit of sound. It makes editing the tone virtually impossible. Once I close the GUI, the plugin works fine again.

THE SYSTEM: It's a Quad Core AMD 2.8 w 4 gigs of RAM. I have Guitar Rig 3 and a few other amp sims that work perfectly at the 256 buffer setting I use. The size of the project doesn't matter, I get this problem even if it's the only track in the project.I also have a UAD Duo and Liquid Mix, which both operate without issues. Bottom line is that the system is brutally powerful and this is the only glitch. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the POD Farm, as well as all of the other drivers.

I would really appreciate a fix for this, as I'm very pleased with the sound of the POD Farm and would like to be able to rely on it. As it sits, it's worthless. Please help.

I just bought my pocket Pod today and downloaded and installed VyzexPocketPOD1p05Setup.zip. When I plug my PocketPOD into my laptop I get the windows message about finding new hardware and it being intalled ok. However, when I start the Vyzex Editor I get the dialog "There are no MIDI IN ports selected! ..... " and the editor does not find the pocket pod.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 2.

This sounds like the same problem as posted by quicklan " 'Error message "AutoSense could not find the line 6 Pocket POD"' in Vyzex Editor".

I would be grateful for your assistance.

Floor Pod Problem

Sometimes my floor pod would be working normally, and then suddenly go into a soft, muffled tone without any changes being made to the settings. This isn't just for an individual preset, even when i change patches the problem still persists. In clean patches there is virutally no sound. When i turn off the power to the floor pod and turn it back on again the sound reverts back to normal.

Is this a problem with my unit?

There are a lot of things to keep in mind when playing a lot of shows. Let's all contribute and make a comprehensive list of advise.

Always have backup gear-guitar, amp, pedals, cables, batteries-anything that can go wrong will eventually go wrong.

Always be on time, but don't be impatient. Often, shows are delayed and often bands cancel, so either you may go on early, or you may have to wait longer than you thought.

Always be gracious to EVERYONE. You never know who will help you out.

Be ready to cut your set short, if the need arises...and eventually, it will.

Have a number of setlists ready, in case of problems with equipment, singers, guitarists, long or short time slots or all the other things I didn't think of.

Eat and sleep well. Don't party to excess. Try to play sober-it really, really helps. NO ONE PLAYS AS WELL BUZZED AS SOBER. I don't care what people say.

Get into it! People can tell if you are just 'phoning it in'.

UX2 Tone Port with Pod Farm and Logic 9.01

Monkey tells me that i have all the current drivers etc.

1) Although it works for the most part,

When opening Pod Farm as a stand alone, I always have to choose the UX2 if I start Pod Farm where it used to be able to find it.

2) If possible, How can i get the UX2 to record two inputs at the same time, on seperate tracks in logic 9 ?

for example: Mic 1 and Inst 1 (Gear box seemed to offer this, although I never tried it)

3) Is it possible yet to choose the UX2 inputs within the logic as the host app?

X3 Pro + shortboard footswitch questions

I've been thinking about selling off my X3L and getting an X3 Pro + shortboard. I have a couple of questions about footswitch controls...

First question: Can I set up the reverb switch per patch to control comp/amp/loop/verb? Or am I limited just to turning reverb on/off with this switch?

Second question: Can I use any footswitch in the same way I use the "TONE 2 / HOLD FOR DUAL" switch on the X3L?

Non-working power adaptor

My name is Robert, and i'm from Wollongong Australia. I recently purchased a brand new Pod X3 off of an american ebay user, which arrived here two days ago. Due to the difference in power supplies between the US and Australia, i bought a 240->120 step-down transformer to be able to use the power adaptor for your product, however, upon plugging it in today, i found that my Pod did not work. I got out an electrical meter, and discovered that there is no voltage coming out of the Pod X3's power adaptor that arrived with the product (the seperate transformer was putting out the correct amount).

My question is two-fold in nature: Firstly, does this non-working adaptor get covered under warranty? If so, how do i claim this warranty? Furthermore, are there Pod power adaptors that are specifically made for the australian 240v power supply?

In case it's of any assistance, my X3's registration number is (21)X3B1S5931002196.

Hi:

I'm experiencing two similarily annoying problems with my Line6 gear and USB connection.

The UX8 make a high pitched noise with some kind of cyclic pattern, and the X3Live makes just high pitched noise.

Looking at the forums, I tried the "Balanced Cables Solution" with no luck on the UX8, and seems to be no solution to the X3Live noise.

I have very common gear: iMac 2.0 Intel running leopard, Behringer Xenyx mixer, Logic Pro, Gearbox, Alesis passive monitors driven by an Alesis Amp. TRS Balanced cables from the UX8 to the mixer, and from the mixer to the amp.

I run the computer default audio (alarms, iTunes, Quicktime) through the headphone output of the iMac to the mixer tape in, and the "Studio Audio" through any of the Line6 units.

The problem gets worse when using "default audio" at the same time as the studio stuff.

How can I get rid of this?

Guitar Port driver error

Hi,

Something is wrong here. When starting Gear Box the message "Ignoring connection to GuitarPort. This device has an incompatable driver installed".

Running GuitarPort as such works, but still displays message "Please upgrade to latest version of GearBox" (allready installed).

Monkey reports driver update from 2.0.0.0 to 3.4.3.8 but after running the update (GuitarPort USB disconnected and connected as required) things doesn't change. The result is the same as above, even the Monkey report even if I just updated.

What might be wrong here?

This is the installation chain:

In bottom my original GuitarPort installation from CD version 1.12

Then the installation of Monkey 1.31

Then upgrade GuitarPort to version 2.01.1

that when opened recommended installation of

GearBox 3.70

Anything wrong with this order?

Anyhow, it all ends with a GearBox that can play files from inline but doesnt include the GuitarPort input.

Not really what I'm after.

Can you please help?

Potential M9 bug

Hi all. As I've stated before, I own both the M9 and the M13. The M9 currenty resides on my small board which I use at church, where we play mainly a blues/gospel style. Anyway, last night at rehearsal, I noticed something that I think is probably a bug. I noticed that when I'm in a scene and I hit the buttons to go into the scene selection menu, the tail of the effects that I'm running cut out before I select the next scene. They cut out as soon as bring the menu up (the menu showing the A's and B's in the circles). I know that that the tails cut off when going from scene to scene, but I would not expect them to cut out from just going to the menu. This happened in both momentary and latch mode.

Can someone from Line 6 confirm this is bug?

Vyzex Pocket POD Software 1.17 never worked

i have a apple power book 15" 1.67ghz. MacOSX 10.4.11

i bought my pocket pod in 2007. in time i installed the Vyzex Pocket POD software (i can't remember what version)

but the Vyzex Pocket POD software never started up cause a dialogue window said there's no midi or something choose ...

when i pressed the ok button in this window the turning wheel from MacOSX turned forever and the Vyzex Pocket POD just didn't started up.

then i had enough from all these troubles with Vyzex Pocket POD and i didn't try used the Vyzex Pocket POD software anymore until

today more than two years later. cause today i tried to install the actual version of Vyzex Pocket POD 1.17 (after reinstalling my whole MacOSX system at least 2 times in the meantime).

today with another MacOSX Version (10.4.11) and the new Vyzex Pocket POD version 1.17 the same problem happen as in 2007.

i tried to get information in the Vyzex Pocket POD forum but i couldn't find help as in 2007. i deleted all the files and preferences who belongs to Vyzex Pocket POD from my system and reinstalled the Vyzex Pocket POD software but nothing happen the same problem as in 2007. i replaced the MQL6T.dylib file and so on but still nothing happen the software won't start up.

i'm really really disappointed about Vyzex Pocket POD and the Pocket POD hardware.

please help me to get the Vyzex Pocket POD software working. this is really the last try before i'll resell the Pocket POD cause there's no use for it without a software.

variax 300 acoustic steel pickup

I bought a used 300 and there's a noticable difference in the volume of the lower 4 strings compared to the 2 high ones (the two high ones are very sensitive, while the lower ones are kinda dead). This is in respect to volume on the amplifier, if played without plugging it in, there's no noticable difference. Even the 2 in the middle are less volume then the lowest 2 strings. I've replaced the strings 2x now, and although with each try I noticed a different sensitivity in each string, they're still not the same and the low ones are not "loud" enough.

Is there a gain control per string? Is this a common behavior or is there something wrong that needs repair? Someone told me the piezo pickup may need to be replaced, however I can't find any store (including the line 6 online store) that carries them. Any advice/help is appreciated - thanks :-)

So I've been trying to figure out some different setups for the X3 Live..What I want to know is how could I used the X3 for basically just delays, phasers, flange, and thats really it...I would use external stompboxs for distortion and overdrive (ie a TS-9 or Sparkle Drive)...then I would want those tones to come out of my amp (let's say a Vox AC-15)..to be more clear I would want this signal chain: guitar, delays (X3), overdrives, amp....or how could I do guitar overdrives, X3, amp..just some questions about setups hope you can help thanks.

Gearbox tells me that my POD X3 needs updated but monkey does not have any available

Line 6 DL4 - Problems

Hey. I bought a Line 6 DL4 with the intent of doing something similar to this with it.

I used a Quarter Inch to 1/8th inch converter so I could hook up head phones to the Mono Left Output. All I hear is on the left side (this makes sense) and it is very quiet even with Mix capped out.I hooked it up to my surround sound and it is louder but still very quiet in relativity to how loud my stereo gets.

So I guess I have two questions.Is there anyway to increase the volume... and is there any cable that I can use that is Dual Quarter Inch Males to Mono Quarter Inch Female in the hopes that I can connect the two Left and Right Outputs into one mono cord and hook it up to headphones so I get sound in both ears?

Or is there any other way I should do this?

Dual Tone switching (I can't hear Tone 2)

I guess I'm doing something wrong, so please correct me ; )

anyway, my problem is - I can't hear the second tone. ever.

If I press the "Tone2" button, Tone 1 continues to play (for instance with a long reverb - which is great for me), but no sound at all comes when I select Tone 2!

This applies to all tones, including the factory defaults, so its not that I messed up with something ; )

I really need this, especially for delay. I set a very long delay on Tone 1 and would like to play a lead on top of it using a different preset.

Hi everyone,

I'm just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 on it and I can't seem to connect via USB. I've pulled out my old Vista laptop and everything is fine so I've updated all the drivers (not sure if it updates drivers within the Pod) and still nothing.

All I'm getting is the 3 duh duh duh's, so it's not feeling the device at all.

If anyone can help, I'd be grateful.

But I recently started reherasing going to a PA. I switched to Line and all my patches were clipping like hell/digital screeching.

Hey guys!

Has anyone come up with (or can think of) a mod for the Spider Valve that could override the internal control that internally disconnects the Preamp Out feed to the tube amp when you plug into the Poweramp In jack?

See I’m kind of a routing freak! In my rig I have several effects chains (which include Pod X3 Live for both effects and preamp sims) and several amps that I combined them with. For that I have several custom made routing switches that work pretty great allowing me to choose in every amp in which input jack I want to put the signal.

The Spider Valve is one of my favorite amps so I wanna hook it up to my rig in a way that I can choose if I want the guitar signal to go into the Input jack (front), the Poweramp jack (back) or through both and the Preamp Out jack (for use with 4 cables method) depending on the chain I want to use.

But this represents a problem because I need cables hooked to all inputs at the same time all the time. When I do this to the Spider Valve, the Poweramp jack pretty much disconnects the Input jack (because what it does is send the signal out through the Preamp Out) no matter if there’s no signal coming into the Poweramp jack. Just by the fact that something is connected there, it does the disconnection.

Just to illustrate this imagine the following:

Guitar goes into an effects chain (made of fully true bypass stomps) and a Whammy and a Compressor are activated. Then it goes into the Input jack of the Spider Valve (passing through Strymon’s SVPre) where I use the Amber Blues model. But then for another part of the song I wanna change to a different effects chain that has the Pod X3 Live in it. I click a toggle in my routing switch and go into the Pod where I select a patch the has a RMC Real McCoy Wah in front of an Orange AD30TC amp which then I need to send into the Poweramp sections of the Spider Valve so that it passes through the tubes and gets amplified (this time I can’t go into the Input jack because I’ll be stacking to preamps… the one in the Spider Valve and the one selected in the Pod X3 Live).

See what I’m doing? I like the freedom to select where I want my signal whether that’s in different amps or in specific jacks within the same amp. But I can’t to this with the Spider Valve because when something is plugged into the Poweramp jack it overrides the Input jack. For all I know a dummy 1/4 cable could be connected there with no signal at all and it will still override the Input jack.

This is a shame because I’m really in love with the options that the Spider Valve can offer me and I wanna included in this scheme I use. So the only thing I can think of is taking my SV to some tech so that he can moded for me in some way that will allow me to do this, but first I wanted to check with you guys here at the forum and see if I could get some good ideas!

New Mix: I bought me a lovely pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro monitoring headphones and man it makes a world of difference. I've been working for about three weeks trying to get a new sounding mix and it's definitely my best by far (not to toot my own horn, but damn it sounds nice!). Instead of using one instance of DKFHS for the kick and another instance of Superior Drummer 2.0 for everything else, I opted for just SD 2.0 and sat for many hours creating a pretty kick *** sounding kit that sounds pretty damn realistic! I'm not joking when I say I'm really proud of this mix! Before you ask, I'm still using the same guitar and bass tones I've always used on my POD X3 Live, just mixed a hell of a lot bette. I'm using my POD X3L with the Big Bottom amp model for the guitar and bass. If you have any questions, free to ask!

New Guitar: Drumroll please ........................................ I finally made an amazing purchase and have joined the dark side! I bought me an apparently Limited Edition Schecter C-8 Hellraiser eight-string from Drumcity and my god this thing is a BEAST!! I'm completely in love with these EMG 808's and really put them to work on this new song I'm workin on (go listen!). You better believe much, MUCH more will come out of this axe!!

Installation Problems

I have had 2 problems:

1. The following error message appears at install: "The system extension " / system / Library / Extensions / Line6Audio.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Contact the product vendor for an update" I have attempted instal 4 times with the same result

2 The software does not detect the hardware. When the USB is connected a message appears: "You need to restart your computer hold down the power button.." On restarting the computer and reconnecting the USB the message is repeated.

I just bought the X3. I am on Apple with OSX 10.4.11. I am trying to download patches from the internet but when I download them as a ZIP files & they will not open.

This is a key feature for me. Lincoln Brewster has his patches available on his website under gear. I download the file as he specifies but I can't open it. I REALLY want to be able to download other peoples patches to help me with my sound.

What can I do?

Also, I HAVE downloaded Line 6 Monkey which is up to date ( and POD Farm as well).

Pod XT Live / Variax 500 / Variax Workbench problems

I've installed 4.2.4 drivers, deleted and reinstalled workbench, updated pod xt live and variax 500 to current firmware versions and checked I have the most up to date version of java.

I understand the operating system is new and I wont get into a debate over reasons to upgrade or not to upgrade. Just get the software/drivers working. You are a huge company with lots of money and resources, step up to the plate. People who have new computers shipped with Snow Leopard are just out of luck or have to downgrade and spend more money? Pay people to provide support for your products, SPEND the money to find a solution. Snow Leopard was known to be in development for over a year. If Apple wouldn't work with you guys to make sure everything would be working then shame on them, but if it was Line6 that wouldn't spend the resources to make sure this was a smooth transition then shame on Line6. Either way, us consumers are at left in the doldrums by two huge corporations. Quelle surprise! Anyway…

This is most likely a Java 1.6 problem. In the following post on the apple forums it says:

Snow Leopard only ships with Java 1.6, so any applications built with Java must include support for 1.6 or the application will fail.

So I have to manually edit effects, which sucks but ah well. I can still use my PODxt Live in Garageband for now so I am ok, and being a casual player I don't mind. Thankfully I didn't purchase any additional software from Line6 or I would be a tad frustrated at the current situation.

I'm sure Line6 isn't the only company in this current situation, most software/hardware companies are currently riding on the Snow Leopard Crash Fail Train Express. Let's just hope Apple and all the software/hardware vendors can work together to find a solution and find one FAST. With that being said I still firmly stand by what I said previously:

Pay people to provide support for your products, SPEND the money to find a solution and find it promptly. Don't just come out and say ' We don't support bleeding edge' it's a new FINAL RELEASE Operating System, it's not a BETA OS. If this goes on for months and months it will only show how much Line6 really cares about it's consumers.

Is the unit clipped to your belt so that you just unplug the guitar you're wearing, strap on the new guitar and plug in?

Variax 500 will not "hold" default models

I have a variax 500 that I can't get to hold (or save) the default models. I tried to put it back to the original factory models via workbench and I can see the original defaults but as soon as I disconect the system they all go away and the guitar sounds the same on every selection. I reconnect it to the workbench and see that they are all gone (no models on any of the settings). Ideas anyone? Am I doing something wrong? I'm new to both the variax and this software, so it's a good possibility that it's just something I'm missing..................

No Sound: RD-700GX Balanced Out + UX8

I'm using an RD-700GX and am receiving a VERY faint sound when I put the 2 XLR's (Balanced Out) into my UX8 (in any set of inputs).

I can hear things when I put my other instruments (bass, vox) running through my UX8.

I've tried multiple cables with no luck.

Any ideas?
