Fractal Audio Axe-Fx...made me sell my X3

Fractal audio is going to cause some competition with line6. My axe-fx blows away the X3 i had. The axe-fx is the most amazing thing i ever used! But why does it sound so much better than anything line6 ever put out?

I only type this because I hope line6 puts out something of the same quality. I like to see healthy competition. I've always been a fan of Line6.

Plus line6 is always affordable. The axe-fx ran me 2k. (IT's so worth the 2k though)

I'm installing mini switches on the front of the amp to access the 4 Push modes for the SVpre. While I have it open, I realized that I have a EH 12AX7 tube sitting around. The same one that came with the SVpre, I'm replacing the V1 preamp tube with it. Also I'm going to replace the LEDs. I'd love to make the faceplace glow purple which is my favorite color, but I think red would look better.

Why do people down L6 untill they find out how good they realy are

I play in a Punk/Hardcore band and have played through L6 gear for over 9 years. I bought a L6 spider when they first came out and no one even knew who they were, but everyone was amazed at the sound of this 75 watt 1x12 "monster of tone" and I was in a jam band, then L6 started getting bigger(more people found out what they were missing for the $). The next prodject I started was heavy and I needed a half stack so I bought the spider2 hd150 and a Laney cab from my friend, still before we played everyone wanted to know how the L6 was and they were loving my amp after they heard it, but also saying how hard they found it to get that head to sound good in the store. It just takes some tweaking like any amp.Then in early 2008 I bought the svhd100 and I was amazed( I even bought the head with out even playing through one)and dont get me wrong the L6 is a modeling amp, but it moddels the best amps in the buisness, not exactly but most people will not notice much of a diffrence. now I have recently bought a Bogner Uberschall ( search for the perfect tone) and it is an amazing amp, but my SV HD100 is still a great amp. Basicly what I'm trying to say is L6 is great gear, and not everyone can afford $1600+ for a tube head. And the people who can great, but dont knock theL6 users for tryning to get the tones that only a hand full of people can even purchase. so if you use L6 dont be ashamed be proud that you can get the tones that you need with out breaking the bank. It could be worse, you could be playing through a crate or some other pos!!!

PS next time someone says L6 sucks look at what they are using and listen to there sound, you'll be suprised how good L6 is. listen to the tracks on my bands page and tell me L6 is no good

Finally got around to recording a few things with the new rig. There will be more to come.

This a Michael Kelly Patriot Custom (neck pickup, coil tapped) into the Egnater Renegade 65 watt head (clean channel) using the 4CM with a L6 M13. The head feeds a 1936 Marshall 2x12 with T-75s. Mic'd with an SM58 into a Toneport UX-2 into Reaper. The only post-processing I did was to mess with the levels a bit and added a limiter to squish a couple of high peaks and to slightly boost the volume overall.

The first round of playing is bone dry, no fx or anything. The 2nd set of clips uses the M13 in the loop for a rotary w/ horn and a delay (the digital w/ mod, I believe) and I used the amp's reverb.

The amp is really amazing, by the way. It has two fully independent channels, each of which have the following variables: 18/65 watt switch; a "tight/deep" switch; a "bright/normal" switch; preamp gain; eq (bass, mid, treble); "tube mix" (lets you blend any combination of the amp's 6L6 power amp with the EL34 power amp -- really cool!), master volume and reverb. There is also a shared presence, density, and "main 1" and "main 2" master volume controls. These all work with the included footswitch, which lets you switch channels, turn the fx loop on or off, turn the reverb on or off, and engage the 2nd master volume control. Each of these elements in the footswitch can be assigned to either channel or both. So if you wanted to use reverb on the clean channel but not the od channel, you can assign the footswitch to let you turn the reverb on and off for channel one but not channel two.

So I recorded some other stuff with my strat and hope to be able to post that stuff this evening. Let me know what you think and if you've got stuff you want to hear, let me know.

Line 6 Spider (III) settings - Modern Metal, Hard Rock and Punk Rock

This is a new thread specifically for Modern metal, hard rock and punk rock.

Feel free to share the settings you use, and tips on how to get that killer tone.

P.S. no band slagging - everyone is free to leave their settings as long as it comes under the headings. I may make other posts for other types of music when I get more time.

Also, if needed, requests can be entered for anyone who is really struggling for their favourite artists sound.

I'd like anyone who is having issues with pops and clicks with these sepcific processors and our drivers to please post on this thread EXACT computer specs and a concise and detailed recipe of how you are able to reproduce these pops and clicks.

I've been streaming music now on an HP DV9 laptop with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor on Vista Home Basic 32 bit now for about an hour without one pop, click or CPU spike. Help me reproduce this so I can help you guys get up and running! Thanks.

The M9 user interface - Line 6 missed the mark

I find that the single LCD on the M9 makes for a very limiting user interface. You've gotta have a damn good memory to essentially memorize what you've placed in any of six slots in six, or even worse 24, different scenes because the M9 does virtually nothing to help you know what's where ("Hmm, is that blue light in the top row of the second slot of scene 4 a flanger or a chorus? And which delay is that green light?" - this is not an easy decision process in the middle of a gig when someone calls a tune, or even in the middle of a song). I like my M9 and I've decided to keep it, but this limitation was almost a deal breaker for me.

To be honest, I think the user interface is a fundamental design flaw of both the M9 and M13. I mean come on, an LCD that displays a small black font on a blue background for crying out loud? Figure that the average player is nearly six feet away from that display or more if you're leaning back or whatever, and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to realize that it's going to be hard to read. To me, Line 6 has designed a performance-based product that has a UI more suited to desktop use. What other pro-level, floor-based unit has such a tiny and unreadable display?

I think Line 6 should have incorporated either a second, easy to read LED display (too late for that, obviously) or they should somehow configure the existing LCD/LCD's to display a larger font on a lighter backround. Maybe a user-definable scene name that scrolls in the window or something like that. With the M9's single LCD this is particularly important.

Once downloaded, unzip the file, navigate to the location of the unzipped file using the left list of Line 6 Edit's Tone Locker window, and you'll be able to open any of the Tones that are compatible with your Line 6 device. This file is updated regularly, for the tone junkie who just can never get enough...

Recording using POD X3 Live?

I recently bought a POD X3 Live and found about the USB audio drop out problem. So, I need tips on alternative ways to record using a computer, knowing that I use POD Farm Plug-in in Ableton Live. No More Line 6 Products For Me

I bought a kb37 about 18-19 months ago, I mostly use it for gtar/bass stuff but I use the keys sometimes...

Anyway I go to use it on the weekend... low and behold about 8 of the keys no longer function (yes I tried diff usb cables, reinstalling drivers etc etc).

I checked the warranty and d'oh only 12 months.

Ok so I thought great this is a pain in the neck not too mention I was (and still am) pretty angry about the poor life of the product

so I contacted the service centre listed by line6 (im in Australia for those of you who want to know there is only one service centre listed)... luckily for me

its not too far from home...

They then proceed to tell me that they do not deal with any out-of-warranty repairs

(People at line6 if you are going to allow somewhere to be a service centre make sure its a service centre not a sorry-we-dont-do-that centre)

They told me I could try taking the kb37 to some electronics place about 40mins drive away.

Already after this experience I'm almost tempted to forget it and cut my losses and go buy something else, unfortunately I had to fork out 600 bucks for this P.O.S. (I knew I should have bought that presonus interface...)

So if you're reading this steer away from these rubbish products and get something else!

I wonder if others have had similar problems.

(If you cant tell I'm very p----d off!)

Hi,

I just recently installed Windows 7 64bit operating system, this is final retail version.

I have POD XT live and Pod farm, etc and I installed the POD XT live drivers and Line 6 Monkey. However, whenever I play back an audio, it has a crackling sound.

I don't know why this is happening. I also browsed the forum and tried some of the suggested work arounds but this issue isn't resolved.

Can you please tell me what I should do to resolve this crackling sound?

Also the LIne 6 Monkey doesn't show anything listed all under Updates. I installed the Line 6 Monkey 64bit version that is supposed to be compatible for Vista 64bit but that

didn't make any difference and the crackling sound is still there.

Pod X3 Live blank screen and no sound

I went to my gig last night and my Pod X3 Live started with a blank lit up screen and no sound. All other buttons lit up correctly, could change patches/banks, tap tempo etc, but a full blank screen and no sound.

I thought it could be adapter problem so I used the Line 6 adapter of the other guitarist in the band, but nth changed.

I tried to start the unit in safe mode, it apparently started in Safe Mode (no other pedals lit up this time), but since the screen remained blank I could do NTH!!! So I had to play the whole pop/rock band gig with a guitar directly into PA as the lead player of the band. If you play one gig like that, you'll know what I suffered!

When I got home, I connected X3 to my PC and Monkey recognizes the device, so does Gearbox. I can change the patches in Gearbox, but still no sound.

And what is more funny Monkey doesn't show the firmware info and the driver details in its "update" page.

I tried to record into Ableton Live. There is such an extremely low level and distorted sound. It is clear that the device can change patches, I could hear it after I normalized the recorded tracks.

I also tried reinstalling the Monkey and the device drivers, but nth changed.

So this is my 3rd Line 6 Device that leaves me in frustration in the middle of gig on stage. I experienced the same with my Variax 700 guitar and also with my bass, both with the very common "suddenly some strings go softer or even silent than the others" problem.

So how angry should I be and what is your solution to my Pod X3L problem?

Remember when the Variax was new? I remember the NAMM video when they were pushing the magic of the "mystery port". All the wonderful things the "mystery port" was going to provide. Well it certainly hooked alot of people into pre-ordering the Variax 500 which cost about a $1000.

And finally about 12 months later when the "mystery port" capabilities were realized it came in the form of a VERY expensive amp called the Vetta II. The only way you could access the full capabilities of the Variax was you had to purchase a Vetta II. Then they made available the Vetta I upgrade. What's that? All of this was suppose to be accessible through a computer interface? Well it finally happened but not before Line 6 dropped the price of the Variax by HALF PRICE!!

The Variax wasn't available for more than 2 years yet before they started selling it for HALF PRICE! And the full capability of the "mystery port" had not yet been developed! Thank you Line 6 for SCREWING us out of $500 bucks.

Why the sudden price drop? It's not like the speed of computer technology and the competition that goes with it. There was NO competition! Nobody had the technology and NO reason to drop the price! The technology never changed. It never improved. It is still the same technology today. Same models. Same sounds. Same stuff going into the Vaxrack whatever.

So why the price drop? Why drop the price of the Variax by half BEFORE the consumer can realize all the benefits of the technology?

I couldn't imagine Korg, Roland, Alesis, etc. pushing some great breakthrough sampler or whatever for a $1000 that will do X plus Y and Z in the very near future that NOBODY else has. "Wow, X is awesome but because it will be able to do Y and Z I'm gonna buy it!" And then W-H-A-M!! Before Y and Z is even available they sell it for HALF PRICE?! WHA?!

"Dude, you paid a 1000 dollars for your Variax 500?" "I just bought a Variax 500 AND the computer interface with software for 400 dollars less than what you paid for it." "And you just bought it 2 years ago!" "Cool."

Wow, some people are so gullible. To think that anyone would buy into the new product BS that Line 6 spews out is just amazing...

Line 6 should have AT LEAST offered the computer interface and software for FREE to those who bought the Variax 500 before the price drop. Instead they flipped them all off.

Moral of this TRUE story...Don't buy ANY new products from Line 6 until it's a couple of years in production and you might get it for half price.

And to Line 6.....I have not purchased another Line 6 product since and I tell EVERYONE this story. (flip)

Spider Valve MKII Comms board

Hi guys.

I've tried asking Line6 this off the board, but I've got no response. which is fine. if the answer is 'yes it will work' then that means some of us wont upgrade our amps. but that's not my point.

I would like to by a SV MKII maybe a head, maybe a combo. I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I hear the SVPre is on its way for the MKII in a few months, so that's good news. but here's what I'm thinking.

I have an SV Pre and my SV12 is way out of warranty now anyway, and I have taken a look at the communications board in the amp before, and my feeling is that the FBV communications protocols are something similar to MIDI, but with a fundamental difference so that they're not compatible. BUT it would be silly of line6 to make the FBV protocol so different to MIDI that some kind of translator device couldn't sit in the back of the amp with FBV and MIDI on one board (as I guess it is in the MKII, as when you look at other amps with both like the vetta, the FBV and MIDI ports are next to each other) and then basically the amp's channel switching is controlled by FBV, and the MIDI signals are just translated in the amp in realtime.

So where am I going with this... well is communications board in the SV MKII (with FBV and MIDI on it) the same as the SV MKI board but with the added MIDI things and the MIDI to FBV translator?? If this is the case, and the actual connections from the board to the amp are identical in the SV MKI and MKII that would mean that some of us who will eventually own an SV MKI and an SV MKII could try to buy this board from a line6 service center and swap it out, thus giving us the ability to control both amps with out M13!!

obviously those of us who choose to control the amp with FBV pedals, can control both amps at the same time using space's fbv Y splitter (i guess... has anyone tested this with 2 SV's yet?) and then use the MIDI out on the SV MKII to perhaps change scenes on the M13 if thats possible.

anyone got any ideas about the comms board or the other info?

Pod XT Live Expression Pedal Failure

My expression pedal has been giving me fits lately. During the last several performances (I play every weekend) it's been a guessing game with this thing. When I power up the unit it will perform as it always has in the past but lately after a short time the expression pedal will suddenly fail the result being full output of the particular patch down the line.. Sometimes if I power down and power back up the problem will go away but then reappear a short time later. It's unpredictable. Other times when I power up the expression pedal doesn't work at all, full volume. I've been running a cry baby down line to try to manage this but it very inconvenient and is certainly not what I want. I've read about recalibrating the pedal but that doesn't sound like thats the answer. The pedal does work SOMETIMES b ut only for a short time. Whats up?

Hey I was wondering if this question/issue has came up in the past. I am trying to record a vid for youtube using my POD x3 live by using the webcam software provided with my PC. When I record direct, (mic or USB connection), there seems to be an audio clipping/dropout/chopping going on. I have adjusted the recording volume and that has cured the clipping issue so it records the full spectrum of the sound but it hasnt fixed the other problem. The volume dips on the recorded track and does not stay consistent. I think I have found a way to circumnavigate this issue but its somewhat of a headache by recording the video on mute and recording the track on Audacity Beta 1.3 (which is an awesome software!!) and then using windows movie maker to combine the two to overlay the tracks. If you have any ideas on how to remove that step I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

FBV shortboard malfunction

Yesterday I used my new Spider IV 150 w/ MK II shortboard with the band for the first time. I moved it from home, plugged it in and hooked up the shortboard. The amp worked and the board lit up but the volume pedal was on full and would not shut off in the heel down position. I was able to switch pre -sets but still no volume pedal. I procceded to use the gear without the pedal and after a while it started to work. Then the wah wah quit working. With the wah turned on both the green volume and the red wah light were lit, but the wah wah didn't function. After playing for a while I tried it again and it worked! I've got it set up again at home and everything seem to be fine. What happened? I bought this rig to try and simplify my gear set up but so far it's been a real headache. I confess that I'm not a techie and I may have bungled something but it was working fine at home ,and it's not as complicated as my Pod X3 Live pedal, which works fine...so far.

Also the FBV calibration steps that come with the downloaded Advanced Guide for the Spider amp don't do anything. I followed the directions to "power off the board, press and hold the 'D' footswitch while powering on the board'. There's supposed to be an LCD readout :Calibrate Pedal" but there isn't any such display . So I don't know if this thing is even "Calibrated". It seems to work fine, when it's working. Is it actually necessary to calibrate it?

No firmware/driver update for X3 Pro with Monkey

Hi,

I've just bought an X3 Pro, and wanted to update the drivers and firmware, both of which are at 1.00.

I have the latest version of Monkey installed, and it identfies my X3 Pro is connected. However, in the updates tab, the only thing that shows up is the Applications sub menu. No drivers/ firmware options to be seen (which can be seen in the updates tab when I switch devices to my XT Pro). So there is seemingly no way to update the firmware or drivers!

Any help very much appreciated.

Problems getting Superior Drummer 2.0 to work with iMac & Cubase4LE

I have barely started multi-track recording on a computer after using a Roland VS-880 & Korg D3200 hard disc recorders for years. I just bought Superior Drummer 2.0 (S2.0) yesterday and had a difficult time downloading all of S2.0 and all of the related items. I have never used drum software in a computer until yesterday. I have a new iMac with almost a terrabyte of free disc space. First, I downloaded all of S2.0 & related items & updates off the toontrack website, no problem. Not sure if it was OK to download all of that internet stuff first. Then I downloaded DVD Disk #1 for S2.0, no problem, I think that was the disc where I went for the full 20 gig version. After about an hour of downloading, it said to insert Disk #2, so I ejected Disk #1. It kept spitting out S2.0 disk #2 after I would put it in the computer. So, for the first time I tried putting the blue EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1 in the computer. It spit that disk out twice. So I went back to trying to download S2.0 disk #2. After many tries, I eventuaully downloaded that disk #2 (its files) into an empty 00000@_SUPERIOR LIBRARIES file folder. I did a similar thing with S2.0 disk #3, #4, and #5. I couldn't get S2.0 to open, so I downloaded the smaller (less than 10 gig version) of S2.0 from S2.0 disk #1. Then it said to download S2.0 disk #2, and I did that after several attempts (after spitting out the DVD repeatedly). It didn't say to download S2.0 disk #3, #4, or #5. Once again I tried to download the blue EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1 in the computer. It spit that out twice, so I gave up on that. I am using Cubase LE4. Here are my iMac specs (with Snow Leopard 10.6.1):

I can open Toontrack solo OK, and it can play the different Grooves OK. When I go to a MIDI folder, there are the following files: 000@_EZ_PLAYER, 002@EZPLAYER_PRO_MIDI, 20@_USER_LIBRARIES, MY MIDIFILES, but they are all empty. In Cubase LE4, it says Superior Drummer is the VST Instrument. On Toontrack solo Library, it only has S1 - Drummer, S1 - Percussionist, S1 - Cocktail, and N.Y. Avatar. I can't figure out how to set the paths for dfh Superior, Custom & Vintage, and Vintage add-on. Can't get toontrack drums to play within Cubase recorded song. HELP PLEASE!!!

After 3 more attempts I got the iMac to accept the blue EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1 without spitting it out. I tried to download it over 10 times & it gives me this message every time: "! The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

When I bought S2.0, Guitar Center handed me a box with 7 DVD's in it: 5 for S2.0 and 2 blue ones. One blue one: EZDrummer/EZPlayer pro/Claustrophobic EZX/Twisted EZX DVD disk #1. The other blue one: Drumkit From H ell EZX/Latin Percussion EZX/Vintage Rock EZX/Nashville EZX Disc 2. Is it necessary to download the EZDrummer to get S2.0 to work? I didn't pay for EZDrummer separately. Did Guitar Center accidently give me EZDrummer for free?

I've tried the recommendations that have already been posted, including optimizing my computer settings, downloading the latest drivers and software versions, and trying different settings for buffer size, bitrate, and so on. I've checked all the hardware (monitors are brand new, cables are new/not damaged). My computer should be plenty fast enough (and when I'm not using monitors, it handles the recording software fine, with processing and memory to spare). So I've kind of reached my wits end...I just spent a bunch of money on these monitors and I can't hear anything but crackling static.

Hardware:

Laptop (Windows Vista, 64bit, 2.10GHz, 4.0GB RAM)

Toneport UX1 (connected by USB 2.0)
M-Audio Studio Monitors (connected by two 1/4" cables to Output from Toneport)

This thread was started purely to direct people to the feature request page on this site which people are doing and that's great.

Whining and complaining doesn't achieve anything, so please don't drag down the intention of this thread with negativity.

There appears to be some misconceptions driving negative comments. Just because the POD X3 manages 2 tone paths doesn't mean it has 2 processors, it doesn't. If you open it up and peek inside you'll see just one Sharc processor in there. Also, with the improvements in the sound on the X3, Line 6 told us that the modelling was improved to take advantage of the processing power and the digital sample rate, this too would chew up a big chunk of processing power. The POD X3 has all the bass and vocal stuff in there already. It handles 8 tracks of digital data out the USB port at a high sample rate, more grunt gone on that too.

So, I am guessing that when the code cutters got hold of the hardware, they packed as much into the unit as the hardware could handle without leaving much room for any extras.

Where that leaves us is quite simple. We say thanks for making the POD X3 so much better than the PODxt, but if it's possible, could we see some of the new effects that have been developed for the M13 included in the POD X3?

It doesn't hurt to be polite. My parents taught me to say "please".

variax out of tune, intonation didn't help

Hello! I've had my variax 500 electric guitar a couple of years now and it has worked flawlessly until now. When I play barre chords with the lowest keynote on the a-string (for example a high E) the b-string and the g-string doesn't "agree" and i get that tremolo effect which occures when the guitar isn't in tune. However the guitar is perfectly tuned cause when checking the strings separately on those frets that are problematic they're in tune. And I tested to record when first playing on the b-string and then I dubbed that with playing on the g-string and it sounds perfect. It's only when they're played together at the same time it sounds out of tune. If i tune down the b-string just a little it dissapears, but then all other chords gets out of tune. As i've just had it in for intonation I know that that isn't the problem, and i've checked that all frets are in tune. My guess is that something is wrong with the technical part of the guitar, maybe the piezo mics are damaged or something in the "computer" of the guitar. I don't know what to do, I guess I need to get service, but when searching for a service center in sweden i get no results, why is that?

I have a problem with my POD X3Live.

I played 2 hours, pod was connected into computer via USB.

Next i turned off POD for 15min. Computer was still turned on.

When i turned on again, on the display showed first Line 6 Logo and next text "UPDATE FLASH".

When I update flash via Monkey on the display show text "UPDATE FLASH..."

But after restart POD X3 Live, this text is still on display .

Can you help me? Or i have to send my pod to repair?

My computer can't hang when I have to many plugins (Pod Farm) being used at once.

I pretty sure it's not my computer though, this is a very good cpu I have, a beast. I think it has more to do with the music recording software I'm using, Magix Music Maker 10. This is particularly cheap software, like 60 bucks 4 or 5 years ago. My friend gave it to me. It does alright and can use the plugins, gearbox or pod farm. When I have 7-9 tracks using the plugins its tough for my computer to keep things smooth, no hick ups etc. Is this gonna be a problem no matter what kind of recording software I use? Is there a limit to how many tracks can use the plugins at once before it freaks even the best computers out. I was thinking about getting Cakewalk Sonar software. Will this help? I record guitar, bass and vocals dry through the POD X3 live and use plugins in the mixer of Magix Music Maker to get things to sound best so I want to have pod plugins on lots of tracks if needed. Please can some one give me the rundown/technical specs on this? Thanks.

I think I may have an unwinnable situation here. I get alot of hum whenever I plug in my PODxt to my computer via usb.
I can alleviate these problems by

Removing power from the laptop and having it run on battery power alone (I've tried different outlets and different power strips)

Not using a tone setting with a lot of overdrive

unplug the usb (duh), but that makes recording slightly impossible (I think)

If I touch either pickup (humbucker) the hum goes away

I've done some reading, and appears as though this is a ground loop issue that there isn't a solution for (or one I found)
Granted I am on some heavy meds and my focus isn't the best.
Now this does not happen on all guitars equally

So, does anyone know how I can have my USB and eat it too?

O.K. I think we all know now by now that Line 6 and Apple's Snow Leopard are not 'working well with each other.' Or, at least, they got off on the wrong foot. And, we have been assured that Line 6 engineers are working hard to fix this 'rift' between the two. That little nugget of information is helpful if only to let 'us' know that Line 6 is aware that there is a problem and they are working on it. I think the saying goes: "Admitting that there is a problem is a good first step." That being said, I submit that it is time for more information from Line 6. Example: While on an airplane last week flying out of Atlanta, our plane had pushed back from the gate and we were wherever planes go while waiting to take off. After sitting there for about half an hour, the frustration level in the cabin was rising quickly. Where were we? How much longer would we be there? Is there a problem? Will we make connections?, etc... About that time, the Captain came on the intercom and told us that we had been sitting in line with lots of other planes waiting to take-off and we were now number 2 in line. He also said that we would make up the lost time while in the air and we would be landing on time. Even though it would have been nice to have known fifteen or twenty minutes earlier what our situation was, you could sense the calm come over the passengers on the airplane because we had information. We were treated like grown-ups. And, I couldn't tell you exactly how long it was going to be before we were in the air, but I knew that it wasn't going to be another 20 or 30 minutes on the tarmac, and I knew that I was going to make my connection. So... Line 6, I love your products and I use them almost daily... but, we're grown-ups... kind of... Could you just please tell us where we are in this process and your best estimate on how long it's going be (in a specific number of weeks or days) before Snow Leopard and Line 6 are friends... making (beautiful) music together? I think you may find that a little honest (even if it hurts a little) information will go a long way with your best friends... your customers. Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear something from you regarding this issue. I'm sorry my analogy was a little wordy!

I have been trying to download Line6 edit and Line6 Monkey, and I am way past frustrated. One of the main reasons I bought the Pod 2.0, was to go online and download custom tones. I can't even get the edit and monkey software to load...keeps asking me to make sure I am connected to the Internet because Java runtime environment needs to be installed, or to connect my Pod to my computer; I am, it is, but it won't.

...$200 for this Pod, and then I find out I have to buy a MIDI to USB cable in order to use it with my computer (seriously, how hard would it have been to have a freakin' USB port on the Pod 2.0? Should I really have to pay $300 for the Pod XT to have it. Come on, seriously???!!!). I'm a little annoyed until I find out the cable costs about 50 bucks, and "a little annoyed" turns into: really, really annoyed. I mean, come-on, 3 more cables and I could have bought another Pod 2.0!!

I've downloaded installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled edit, monkey, Java, and JRE a dozen times. I even completely reinstalled Windows XP on my computer to start fresh. NOTHING WORKS AND YOUR SUPPORT INSTRUCTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND INCOMPLETE!!!

Now, having said all this, I love the Pod 2.0 itself...great sounds. But can someone please help me GET THIS THING HOOKED UP AND TALKING TO MY PC BEFORE I GO COMPLETELY NUTTS?

Pops & clicks issue

i'm unlucky to experience the TonePort pops & clicks issue.

I've been said to start a new topic and post my pc's specs, so it could help.

So:

ASUS k50AB (notebook)

Windows XP SP3, 32-bit, slightly modified (just for the looks +few program installed, not important)

AMD ATHLON X2 QL-64 (2.10 GHz, 1MB cache)

4 GB RAM (Windows reads only 3,25 GB because it's an XP, still)

ATI Radeon 4570 (i doubt that's important, but whatever)

250 GB HDD

WiFi IEEE 802.11b/g/n
LAN 100 Mbps

So you can see i experience the common noise problem on Windows XP and having an Athlon, not Turion.

I've got TonePort UX1.

None of the solutions posted helped.

Please do something, i hope you guys will be able to fix this.

In U2 'emulations' lots of people write to set a digital delay as a dotted eight note.

When using knob 2 I can set a numeric amount or a dotted note.

I cannot find a description of the symbol that represents the dotted eight.

Can anybody tell me what the notes represent in human language ?

What are the detailed specs of your computer (model type, processor type and speed, RAM, motherboard, chipset)?

When do the noises occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?

How often do the noises occur? Intermittent? Always?

Are you able to reproduce the noises? If so can you give us a recipe or repro steps?

Can you post a little clip of the noises and attach them to your reply? (MP3, .WAV, AIFF, etc)

Hopefully we can use this thread to spot some trends. Thanks for you cooperation everyone.

Sound suddenly choppy/distorted

Got my Toneport UX2 running through my Mac via USB, and have the main audio running out of that to monitors. When using it sometimes, the audio suddenly becomes choppy and distorted, almost at a rate of 1 'blip' per second. I restart the mac and everything is fine again until it happens. What is going on??

New to Line 6....Need Help!

Ok…I’m new to Line 6 products so forgive me if I sound ignorant & naïve about these products. I really could use some advice as to what products I need and how they work together. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok…first, what I am looking for:

1. I want to plug my guitar directly into a PA and be able to get great sounds from it.

2. I also want to do some desktop recording. I currently use Garageband 09 and I really like the Pod Farm interface and would love to be able to integrate it with garageband for my guitar tones.

3. I need to use some of the patches from the custom tone site in order to replicate specific tones when performing covers.

4. While I really want to use a unit for performing live, I don’t like the idea of having to be hunched over my unit trying to dial in tones. I would love to be able to have all of the tones I will need worked out ahead of time and just be able to trigger them later by stepping on a pedal.

5. I am confused between the line 6 monkey, pod farm, and gear box software. I want to be able to control my unit with the computer and then take the unit to a gig to recall what I created on the computer.

Some questions I have:

What is the difference between using a Pod X3 or XT with a FBV Shortboard instead of the X3 & XT Live models? I like the idea of being able to play with the pod without bending over and still have triggers to use with my feet.

When using custom tone, is it as simple as downloading the patch from the site and triggering when stepping on a pedal?

Thanks for any input…I’m new to this world of Line 6 and multi effect units and amp simulators.

Tried to download Java Environment on SunnSystems webpage, it says concerning Apple MAC System/OS

that the java on MACOSX is included and should check MAC UPDATE for the plateform but it cant find anything new or updates.

I just can't use my gears on my laptop. Especially my POD PRO XT (Updated and full ModelPacks options)

So what now ?

LINE 6 DM4 Battery Power not working

Pod XT Live / Variax 500 / Variax Workbench problems

I've installed 4.2.4 drivers, deleted and reinstalled workbench, updated pod xt live and variax 500 to current firmware versions and checked I have the most up to date version of java.

I'm running snow leopard in 32 bit mode on a core 2 duo macbook.

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same as me. L6 is an american company right? and I know that they build them in China to keep down the cost for everyone, and that helps out everyone. But my problem is the speaker choice. Don't get me wrong Celestion has made some very defining sounds, but are they realy the right choice for L6? I mean Eminence is made in the USA, so why does a USA based company use chinese crap? why not help out the Americans, and Besides that Eminence speakers sound much better than Celestions do anymore ( Probably that whole not made in England thing) take for example the Celestion V30 and compare them to a governor by Eminence ( just bear with me) I know they are not the "Same" eventhough they are compared against each-other. But the Governer is a WAY smother sound than a V30. And thae eminence V12 $69.00 retail kills a V30 what is it now $149? or in my opinion the K100 roughly the same priceas a V30. and for less than 1/2 the price ....RETAIL!!!! so wouldn't it be nice if Americans BOUGHT AMERICAN? I've been watching alot of the @hitty economy crap lately. So my question is Who else feals this way. I know there are some people who couldn't live with out a real Celestion speaker, but honestly are they still celestions?Eminence are made in the USA with ,and get this USA parts!!!!! This has been bugging me so let me know your thoughts.

High pitched whine

While recording a kawai k5000 I get a high pitched whine this also happens if I even turn on gearbox or podfarm. So far I have tried 2 different computers, running the laptop off battery power, switching outlets, switching the power cord on the Kawai, using all ports on ux8, switching the ux8 and k5000 to different outlets, using new audio cables and using a new usb cable on the ux8.

Some strange details: usually I run things through a mixer and effects before going into the ux8, even with the voulme down to 0 on everything the whine perists. Plugging the audio cable from the k5000 1/4 of the way into the mixer and there is no whine, but I can't change the volume! It's only the k5000 that is doing it. The whine is there even with the k5000 off, but goes away if it is unplugged. I tried using a behringer ufo interface and it is fine, plugging straight into the onboard sound card it is fine, plugng right into a zoom h4n it is fine as well. In some ways it seems like a k5000 problem, but all other recording interfaces have no whine.

Any other ideas?

Digidesign Eleven Rack is out, what next from Line 6?

Digidesign brought out the Eleven Rack and I'm wondering what Line 6 will show up next.

Although much stuff one can do with the Eleven Rack also may be done with Line 6 stuff, there are some things only the Digidesign box can do and they say it sounds better. On the other hand it has less amp models and there's no floorboard for example and it costs a little bit more, but then also includes a version of Pro Tools, so I maybe beates the price you will have to pay for a X3 pro and some professional recording software.

Upgrade not working properly

I have a podxt live which is 4yrs old now. The problem that i am facing is that when i upgraded its flash memory with the newer version, line6 edit showed me the added amps and all but the thing is the patches dont work properly anymore. The reverb and delay didnt work for any settings. So i again rollbacked my version and now the delay and reverb are working properly and line6 is showing the earlier no. of amps.

I just received my TonePort DI-S from my GuitarPort bundle. I installed all of the software. I have the TonePort plugged in. I have a green light. I have re-installed drives more than once. I have restarted the computer more than once. I have switched USB port, computer front panel not a hub. I have all of the up to date Drivers, USB, Gear Box, etc.

I am getting no sound through my computer speakers from the Guitar. I see needles moving on Gear Box. I have twisted knobs, pushed buttons, tried combinations of things. I can hear the video tutorials played from the embedded browser at the bottom of gear box just fine.

I know there is something super simple that I am not seeing here. Why can't I hear my guitar played through my PC speakers?

Spider Valve MKii - Mesa and Agro (Metal) models compared to original

Is it me, or does anyone else think that the Mesa and Agro (orange and blue metal) models are better on the original Spider Valve. I spent over an hour with the MKii 112 today in the loud room at GC. The new amp models, effects, and controls were all excellent. However, the aforementioned models did not sound near as good to me as they do on the original SV. I've A/B'ed them, and the original models are much stronger and clearer. The original mesa model retained much more note definition and clarity. The new model sounded muddier. The agro (blue metal) sounded quite a bit weaker to me on the MKii than on the original.

I noticed the same differences on the regular Spider III vs Spider IV as well.

I gig regularly with my Spider Valve, and I couldn't wait for the MKii. These two models are a deal-breaker for me though. I use these two models during many parts of my gigs, so this becomes a deal-breaker for me. Sucks too, because I love everything else about it.

Any thoughts?

When does the crash occur? During recording? Streaming audio and video through various players?

How often does the crash occur? Intermittent? Always?

Are any crash logs generated when this occurs? If so can you please attach them as a file (.doc, .txt, etc will work fine) to your response?

Is it possible to bypass all the effects by hitting one button. I have parts in songs that are full of effects accross the board, but it then I have parts for solos as well as dry parts. I need a one button one click type of thing. Is it possible to do this easily with the m13? I understand I can tap a button to turn off the individual fx, however, like I said, I need to be able to do all either on or off at one time as well as have the ability to use it in stomp box mode.

Line 6 edit not working for me - Java Errors?

I have been unsuccessful in getting Line 6 Edit to work. I have downloaded the program twice, and have been present both times to insure that the "recommended" Jave RTE was installed on my computer.

After looking through this forum, I noticed that Line 6 apparently has corrected any problem when using Jave RTE6, which I also installed from the JAVA site in an effort to fix things. This has not corrected my problem. Anyone able to offer an ideas?

When I check my Java properties on my computer, it says I am running build 6.1.blah-blah-blah...should this version not work with Line 6 edit? The Line 6 recommended version (JavaRTE5) is also on my computer. Should I delete JAVA version 6?

Hum and Noise, Noise and Hum

This has probably been discussed many times , but I can't seem to find the answers.

Just got a X3 Live this weekend.

Using a Strat, thru headphones, or through a mackie mixer .... I'm getting a TON of Noise and Hum on pickups 1-3-5. So much so that most patches/presets are unusable due to the xtreme noise. A few presets even exhibit extreme noise using pickup positions 2 and 4.

I've also tried my humbucker guitar and it's a little better, but still more noise than a normal stage setup using a real amp. Waaayyy too much noise.

I've tried several different outlets throughout my house and it stays the same. I would certainly not be able to play this thing out live with this much noise and not being able to use pickups 1-3-5

Any ideas or solutions will be hugely appreciated. Thank you,

Spider Valve MkII combo questions

1) do the combos run hot? i know that the modeling portion of the amp is essentially a computer, and we all know computers like to run cool. wouldn't feel very confident about the amp's longevity if it's constantly running hot.

2) will my mk1 shortboard work with this amp? if so, will i be able to do looping w/it?

3) any way to save programs? i know there's no Line 6 Edit support. not sure if there's some other way?

4) is the cabinetry plywood, or particle board/mdf? i saw that the 412 cab is plywood so i'd like to think that that's the case w/the combos.

5) aside from the two preamp tubes and maybe different presets, what's the difference between the mk2's and the originals? features aside, is this newer version supposed to sound better?

IRELAND + UK Power Supply for POD 2.0

The power supply for my 2.0 is crocked. I know this cus I took the unit into a shop in Derry and he took the power supply out of another POD on sale and plugged my unit in which worked perfectly. The shop has no power supply units in stock for sale on their own. Of course they can order them in but because we're not a major metropolitan area it could be weeks before the shop needs to place an order for stock with Line 6.

Every music shop between here and Galway I've visited and no one stocks Line 6. This fruitless drive around the country has peeved me right off.

Someone please sell me a UK (240/9V/1200w) Line 6 AC Power Supply or I'm gonna have to emmigrate. I'll buy it on line right now if you can point me in the right direction.

Pod XT ASIO drivers stop working in Cubase

I'm using a pod xt with Cubase SX. I need to run Monkey every time I use Cubase to get any sound in or out from the pod. When I don't do anything for a while, then try to use Cubase, I get no input or output until I run Monkey again, then it works. I don't need an internet connection for monkey to connect to - just firing it up lets Cubase use the pod again. Any ideas? cheers

I have contacted sonar support and have completed all of their trouble shooting steps. They say it must be my input device. I have tried switching over to my computers sound card and the noise does stop. I have updated all my drivers and have completely reinstalled my ux2 software. Pocket POD registered to my Account - Line6 Monkey says it is not.

I purchased a Pocket POD a few weeks ago. I have registered it to my account and it appears in my account correctly (see attached image: line6_registration_page.jpg Note: username in web account & Monkey the same; serial number blurred out intentionally). I used the Serial # from inside the battery compartment. When I launch Line 6 Monkey v1.31 and log into my account, it give me a dialog box stating, "It appears you have not registered your Pocket POD with your user account." (see attached image: line6_pocketmonkey.jpg). If I click "Register Now...", it takes me to my account page where it shows my device registered to my account. I followed your FAQ and ensured my serial number was in the form 'XXXNLNNNNNNNNNN'. I have tried the following with no success:

Logged out of Line 6 Monkey and log back in.
Waited 1 week to see if the serial number just needed time to associate.
Installed latest version of Line 6 Monkey on a different computer.
Deleted my registered device and re-registered it.

Current state of affairs: My device is currently registered to my account through the website, however Line 6 Monkey still shows it as unregistered.

Although the device is not registered it has allowed me to update to the latest firmware: 1.01, however I would like to ensure that my device is properly registered.

OS Info:

I have tried on 2 different machines running:

Windows Vista x86_32bit Professional and Ultimate.
Both are single boot systems.
The POD is recognized on both systems.
The Vyzex editor recognizes the device and I can control the POD through it.
Both machines are Intel Core 2 Duo, but running 32 bit versions of OS.
Both machines have 3 2.0 USB ports. I am connecting the POD directly to the computer.

Some Experiment using M13 as Midi foot controller

Well after a bit of work i realized this:

1) the M13 can work as a Midi Foot Controller

2) it works going on scene set up, at that point if u switch scene by scene than some other effect connected via midi change his preset till number 12

3) the limit it is u can have only 12 switch possibilities because at same time u can have only 12 scene viewable, u can change folder only going on knobs but in a live situation its not handable ofc, so the story of 48 scene its true only considering them as in studio use, (i have not understood how to change solder only going by foot switchs)

4) so if i have understood well i can use 12 scene at same time, selecting it the midi controller give at someother midi unit connected the right program till n.12 meantime u can arrange all the effects u want on the M13

Now a big tip for LINE6, please in the next firmware update create a way to control all the 48 scenes using the foot switches of M13 or create a new way to change folder.

Could be useful a function to go next, scene by scene and reverse.

If this function exists already than help me to find it

hello everybody @ line6 as a line 6 freak - not since the very first hour, but since i bought a pod xt live - i am now a proud owner of the pod x 3 live. i play it through a marshall 9100 poweramp and a hughes&kettner vintage 4x12 box. when i had to find a subject for a research work that i have to do for my diploma at the SAE in zuerich, switzerland, i came up with the idea of comparing a marshall jcm 900 with both the clean- und dist-channel-emulation in the pod x 3. my plan is to compare the pure pod sound with the pod played through the poweramp and the jcm 900 box, and to compare these with the real amp. i intend to really test the pod out, listening, measuring, comparing waveforms etc. empirically i would expect the pod to do a real good job in this challenge! it is clear to me, that you can't reveal your business secrets just for the success of my work, but... here is my question: could you help me with some deeper insights into the principles that are applied in the pod x 3? could you eventually give me more informations about how the models are designed? ... if it has something to do with convolution or whatever? are there books about programming audio dsp which could help me to understand better how the pod really works? hi I have a little problem with my pod x3

When i change on the stampboard the effect from lets say 1d to 1 c...sound from gearbox hold the line solo (good sound for alive from Pearl Jam...any other suggestion is welcom) and change to Lifeson sound Xanadu (good for bridge sound Alive from pearl jam...any other suggestion is welcom) it is oke. but if i change back again the sound is dropped a few seconds. Irritating while playing with the band on stage and practising.

How can i make sure that will not happen. I have this problem all the time with changing from effect to effect.

Also sometimes he is out of control with volume suddenly or goes to the effect 2

I just purchased your JM4 Looper. It does everything I thought it would and so much more. I'm relatively new at playing the guitar and the looper seemed like a great device to help me practice and have fun doing it. I was hoping I could use the 'Jam with a Song' function to practice. It seems like a great practice item because it plays a portion of a song over and over -- forever. The only problem I am having is not knowing what chords to play with the songs. Is there a book or paper out there somewhere that could help me out with this? Something that would possible give chord progressions for each song? I've used "Band in the Pocket" CD's before and they have chord progressions with them. Any suggestions?

Pod Studio UX1 Not Working With Windows 7

I've gone through all of the support FAQs/discussions so this is a last-ditch attempt. I am getting sporadic performance from the UX1 on my laptop (brand new, core i7 processor, Win7, 4g ram). Playback stutters, system sounds only happen sometimes (e.g. - running the "test" function on the sound devices control panel only plays sounds less than half the time) - thus I know it's not an issue with my DAW software. Following the manual and support FAQs, I have:

1. disabled antivirus

2. disabled all wireless/bluetooth network adapters

3. disabled the computer's sound card

4. adjusted sound settings (buffers, size, etc.)

Still, the stuttering problem when playing back and the sporadic appearance of system sounds persists. I have the latest Line6 drivers and software. Any other tips?

MKII 112 - Second Impressions

I just got done giving the stock amp a good run through at volume. Here's what my ear is hearing:

This is not simply a MKI with better effects, which are great by the way and a far cry better than the MKI. The amp models have been reworked, and in some cases, drastically. In general, the tone controls seem to have even more effect on most models. Almost every model, at volume, has been rid of the icepick highs that were, to my ears, the overall character of the MKI with the V30. This has been replaced with a slightly added emphasis on the midrange. I wish I had a stock MKI to compare this to side by side, so I am just going from memory. But to me the difference is very noticable. In fact, the V30 can get downright honky at higher settings of the mid control. The low end can still get flubby/farty on the wrong settings, so that could stand some tightening up. I'm still going to go with a G12K-100 which should tighten the low end and smooth out any extreme mid honk. Also, the springs on my tube retainers rattle unmercilessly against the glass when I strike my open D string. They're going to come off.

Specifics about amp models that have changed:

The Metal Blue, which has long been a staple of mine for higher gain Marshall type tones, has changed. Depending on your perspective, for the better or worse. The mid control, which changes the distortion character from a more focused class A type tone at min, to a more modern high gain tone at mid, to a loose fuzz tone at max, is far more sensitive than it was on the MKI and has increased range. Also note, it seems to me that the description of the mid control is reversed in the manual because it says the exact opposite of what I just did. The gain range is also expanded in both directions. Now, pretty much anything before noon results in what sounds to me like a JCM800 at moderate gain. Very punchy and smooth with a restrained top end. The tone starts getting some hair on it as you increase the drive to 12:00. To me, the gain is unusable much past 1:00 with a hot bridge humbucker. I was initially very disappointed with this model in some respects because in essence, my go-to tone wasn't to be found here anymore, but at least there was new territory that sounded very good.

Then I started stepping out of my box. Insane Blue. It's not quite so insane anymore. Again, expanded range on the gain control. On the MKI, anything but minimum gain resulted in screaming distortion. Not so on the MKII. Up to about 10:30 or so it was still very manageable. And guess what? My Metal Blue tone is here now. In the Insane Blue model. But it sounds even better because there's a usable mid control. I'd experimented with Insane Blue on both MKI's to no avail. But on the MKII this is now a usable model for me. Nay, not just usable. Really great sounding. The gain range makes it suitable for everything from a nice rock crunch to metal territory. And SMOOTH. This has singing lead qualities if you want them. There's hair here, but it is GOOD hair. Moderate, usable sizzle. Not fizz. I am really digging Insane Blue.

Metal Amber? Insane Amber? On the MKI, I could tolerate these with the K-100 but not with the V30. Icepicky mess there. But on the MKII these seem to have lost the icepick just as all the other models have and have a usable top end even at higher treble settings. Actually, I could get into these tones also, more so the Metal Amber. That model with single coils has a nice glassy crunch.

Crunch Amber naturally has that Plexi bark...duh. With gain at 12 or below, it is very articulate. Raking a chord, you can hear every note clearly but still have a great crunch going on. I think Eric Johnson or Joe Bonamassa. Good tones to be had here also. Although both this model and the Hi Gain Amber sound maybe just a little too barky/honky with the V30. The K-100 will put this back where I like it.

I'm not going to dwell on the mid gain stuff other than to say that the AC30TB sounds great (Class A Amber), maybe even better than the MKI did. There are some other new offerings there too that sound good, but I will have to explore later.

Cleans are fantastic. I don't know if it's me, but I think the Clean Amber has been reworked because it now sounds a lot more like the clean sounds I was getting from the MKI on Crunch Amber at low gain. I could play that clean sound for days. Very enjoyable.

To wind up here, I still have a lot of work to do but I think the MKII may be a keeper. We'll see for sure what happens after the speaker change but I don't know any other amps in this range that have it going on on so many different fronts at the same time. Effects are really good, amp models sound great, and it's a single package. For under $1000 what else is there? Vypyr? Sorry, not in the same league. Will post again after the speaker change, and I might even include some video footage. Until next time!

Crackling noise on Spider IV 75

When using my new spider amp I get a buzzing/crackling noise which continues for a few seconds. This happens several times in a half hour period. It happens on any settings and with any guitar. Is this amp susceptible to electronic interference? Or is this a fault. It happens when there is no other electrical activity going on in the house. Has this happened to anyone else?

Some of you may know that I have recently acquired an AxeFX Ultra - this will be a very short (and hopefully informative) post on my impressions so far:

• Power Amp section - Incredible detail & control have been given to this section of the Amp modeling and IMO, this is the biggest feature that sets it apart from the rest. Just by changing some of the 'advanced parameters' for the power amp you can make it both sound and feel like 20 different amps. Sag and Master Volume controls effect how the amp compresses as well as accurately reflecting the changes in frequency response you would hear from a real tube amp - these work better than any master volume or power scaling circuits I have heard to date. It seems to mimic actual sound pressure into a mic, even at very low volumes.

• Preamp section - The preamps also provide numerous 'advanced parameters' which greatly influence the sounds produced - for instance, the Tone stacks can be moved pre, post, or even after the power amp, providing 3 different sounds & responses. The Tone circuits can also be 'tuned', moving all frequency bands higher or lower, greatly effecting the overall character of the sound. Other parameters include Warmth, Thump, Low & High cut freq, Bright Cap size, Presence freq, Active or Passive tone circuitry, Transformer match, Cab resonant freq, etc.

• Signal chain/Effects routing - Although sometimes a bit time-consuming, this unit offers the most flexible & complete signal routing options I have ever seen in a guitar processor, and yes that includes the GT-10 (or pretty much any other rack effect) The signal can be split into up to 4 different effects paths and mixed/summed to stereo at the end.

• Effects - Plenty, and very high quality including low, high, and bandpass filters and an infinitely programmable Wah.

• My overall impression - I have never experienced anything like this. It's a whole new dimension for me, and I truly believe I could be content to never play through my tube amps again (yes, even my beloved '65 Super-Reverb) - I could never have said this before.

Variax Ethernet Connection

I have a problem with the connector in the guitar. The plastic that holds the jack to the body of the guitar cracked and broke, so the jack floats inside. Because of this, I think, everyonce in a while the guitar will cut out and will not be seen by the podxt. I unscrewed the connector on the guitar and tapped the jack where it was broke to help make it more solid. It worked great for a day and then it started cutting out again. Is there any way I can get hold of the jack and the little circuit board that it connects to? It's out of waranty and I'm technically inclined enough to replace these parts. Thanks

X3 Pro + shortboard footswitch questions

I've been thinking about selling off my X3L and getting an X3 Pro + shortboard. I have a couple of questions about footswitch controls...

First question: Can I set up the reverb switch per patch to control comp/amp/loop/verb? Or am I limited just to turning reverb on/off with this switch?

Second question: Can I use any footswitch in the same way I use the "TONE 2 / HOLD FOR DUAL" switch on the X3L?

Variax 700 will not stay in tune?

I have a variax 700, I usually use slinky 9 / 42 strings and have my tremolo setup floating. I'm a college lecturer / recording engineer who has also set up guitars for over 20 years. The variax is a superb guitar in every way, apart from the most basic aspect........it will not stay in tune. I hope the guys at line 6 read this because it is staggering that such an amazing instrument has such a massive flaw. (the size of this massive flaw cannot be exagerated. A guitar which will not stay in tune is useless).

The problem only exists if the tremolo is set to float (the whole point of a great tremolo like the LR Baggs unit....and the whole point of buying a variax 700 as opposed to the much cheaper 300). After using the tremolo, the tuning will be raised or lowered.....it will not come back to the correct pitch....ever. If you dive bomb or even just dip the pitch of a note on any string.....on releasing the tremolo bar the guitar will be flat by up to -12 cents. If you pull back on the tremolo bar to raise a note and then release the bar, the tuning will be up to 12 cents sharp. An interesting point is if you tune the guitar and play without tremolo......perfect tuning. This means the problem is not the machine heads.

Many people on the forums have suggested to each other the following, but I think I have found the reason....and nobody is going to like the answer.

Lube the nut - This in reality is not a solution. A well crafted nut will not need lube. The 'bone' nut on the variax 700 is not bone...a synthetic bone substitute maybe, but not bone. I've seen other people describe it as chewing gum it is so soft.

File / reduce the depth of the nut - At 5 mm the string contact with the nut is too great. Using a file to reduce this contact area down to 2.5mm is a good idea.

Install a new nut - a Gibson type drop in from graphtech or an earvana nut (£35 option).

Install a set of locking machine heads - Reducing the winds on the tuning post to a half turn improves tuning stability (£60+ option).

Increase string tension - changing to a heavier set of strings eg from a set of 9s to 10s (£5 option).

Increase spring tension - making sure you use all 3 springs on the rear of the tremolo.

Cut the 'condoms' off the springs - Variax is the first guitar i have ever seen with these fitted to the springs. I would love to know why they are fitted (Health & safety?) as you cannot operate the tremolo at all with them on.

The first thing I had to do setup wise was cut the plastic 'condoms' off the springs in the tremolo as they do not allow the tremolo to operate (literally) without a horrible crunching sound and feel. I have shaped the nut.....no difference. Tried heavier strings and resetup the guitar.....no difference. I usually use a set of 9s with 2 springs on the tremolo, so i tried a set of 10s with both 2 springs and then 3 springs on the tremolo.....no diference.

The problem seems to be constant no matter what you do to fix it in the area of machine heads / nut / strings and springs. The problem lies with the electronic cables connecting the tremolo/piezos to the brain unit in the guitar. If you look at the back of the tremolo with the cover removed you will see a thin cable and a ribbon cable attached to the tremolo. These cables go around the tremolo unit and through a hole in the body of the guitar to the brain section PCB.

If you watch the back of the tremolo closely as you operate it through its full range, first one way and then the other, you will notice the unit never returns to it original position due to the resistance of the cables/electronics. The stiff cables are in contact with the tremolo.

This is a serious flaw in the design of the instrument. A smaller light weight / very flexible connection between the tremolo PCB and the Brain PCB, which stays close to the base plate of the tremolo (which moves a short distance) and out of the way of the block/springs (which move a great distance) is needed.

The result of trying to acheive tuning stability with the tremolo floating, would for the average guitarist result in an extra £100 minimum to the price of the instrument, plus around another £100 in repeated setups and fitting of parts. Only to realise it is never going to happen.

This is a major disapointment as I have been sold a product which is superb in one way (sounds) and totally useless in another (staying in tune)....It is not fit for it's purpose!

I would love a reply from line 6 on this as the 700 is a professional instrument at a price of around £1000. I think line 6 know about this problem. None of the videos demonstrating the instrument on the line 6 website have any use of the tremolo unit. It is probably the reason why the guitars come with the tremolo mounted flat against the body when you buy them.

I would also like to know the purpose of the spring condoms?.....was that a bodge to help tuning stability?....in 30 years of playing guitar and 20 years of setting them up professionally I have never....ever seen any other guitar with these things fitted to the strings.

Come on line 6 guys, have the balls to reply to the customers who have commited to buying the flawed product and time/upgrades, searching for a variax 700 that stays in tune.

I get a free pod farm to use with mi pod x3 live, but they don't work. When I try to use it show the mensage

"No compatible Line6 USB divice have been detected", and show the options, UX1 UX2 GX KB37 TonePort UX1...... Until Guitar port".

After that the software open but don't work, there is a mensage in the botton " NO autorized device conected, pod farm cannot process audio"

I folowed the instructions of the "pod farm use guide" but nothing work. What I can do to solver that problem?

M13 Switching off

JM4 Looper snap crackle & pop

I have a JM4 Looper pedal (firmware 2.09) and I seem to be experiencing an increasing amount of snap, crackle and pop during recording. More specifically, it seems that the recording is fine, but when I go to save it to a WAV file, I get all kinds of pops. At first it was just a few and I thought maybe it was the switch on my guitar or something. But now I'm getting these pops every 5-10 seconds. The recording is fairly simple; a built-in drum track with about 90 seconds of rhythm guitar. Then I save it (as a Jam file) and attempt to record a solo on top of it. Then I save that to a WAV file.

I have also tried just recording a solo straight on top of a built-in song -- no crackle in that case.

This does not appear to be an issue from the guitar or cable as the pops are not present when I load the JAM file; only if I load the WAV file or copy the WAV file to my computer. I have tried turning the JM4 off and on etc to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe there's a better way to do this that The JM4 is cool, but I'm getting frustrated with this.

Reordering FX's

I'm new to the M13.... FX's are copied to a new location, but is there an easy way to exchange FX's? (ie. exchange settings in FX Unit 1 with setttings in FX Unit 3).

This would allow reordering of FX's without using a temporary FX spot. For example, to exchange FX1-A with FX3-A, you would have to copy FX3-A to a temporary spot such as FX1-C, then copy FX1-A to FX3-A, and finally copy FX1-C to FX1-A. A simple exchange command would accomplish this in one step.

I just purchased the M13 Stompbox and will have to update to the newest version. I currently have Windows Vista 32 bit and was wondering if I just bought an M Audio Uno with Midi ports will I have to do buy anything else for this upgrade. I currently record with my Samplitude software along with my Asio4all driver. Everything works fine.......Do I have to download another driver? I was little confused from the instructions. I bought the line 6 pod farm for my boyfriend so he could record his music and burn it to a CD. When I went to Guitar Center, that is what I told them I was trying to do and they sold me the Line 6 Pod farm. And while he absolutely loves it and all that he can do with it, he still cannot seem to get it to actually record his playing to his computer in any format that can be shared or burned to a CD. Is he missing a step or is he missing some other system or program that is needed to actually be able to accomplish that part?

Electro-Harmonix 'Effectology'

7 String Epi Les Paul (now w/pics)

I recently traded a guy my 1981 Acoustic Corp G60 2X12 combo, that's a really awesome SS amp that never use anymore, for a 2000 7 string Epiphone Les Paul. I've always want a 7 string or a baritone guitar so this was a good opportunity to do so. Now I don't want to sound high on my horse, but I've been playing guitar almost 18 years. When I first started playing I played a few Squire Strats and low end Jacksons, but soon found myself wanting to play a the higher end stuff. So moved on. I got a 79' Strat a couple Gibson Explorers and V's, an ESP Custom Explorer. I never waste my time looking at the Squires, Epiphiones or low end anything anymore. I reconize that the right guitar is whatever and one should be able to get good tone from even the crappiest gear. What's my point? I'm am really impressed with this Epiphone. The guy put locking tuners on it and EMG 707's in it and that's sold me on it, since I like EMG's. However the guitar itself play great and looks great. The guy at the guitar shop that did the setup on it commented on the quaility of it and I agree. He had an Epiphone SG Elite that messed around on and I was blown away by the quality of that one too. I've never been an Ibanez fan, but I was impressed the new Destroyer that I picked at a guitar store in Gainesville the other day. I guess I need to not be so quick to dismiss something because of name or price.

Windows Vista 64 bit problems with ASIO Pod XT

When I run a DAW (cubase SX or Reaper), I get no input or output (even though I've selected the correct ASIO Pod XT drivers) until I start Monkey. Once Monkey starts everything works, for a while. Occasionally it'll stop working until I start Monkey again, and sound is once more. I can't recall having this trouble with these programs using Vista 32 bit.

Anybody know of any issues here?

I got an pod x3 a while ago. And it worked 60% of the time, I would either get good sound or just alot of humming and noise. But now it wont work anymore :-(

Does anyone else have/had this problem? It happens when i use the pod on my amp and computer. I get just get noise through the XLR outpust also, so maybe its some kind of hardware problems. If anyone one know what to do, then please tell me.

M13, SVMKII HD, FBV together

Ok so I have a question here, I am wanting to go all out Line 6 with my rig but I need more than just the effects that the Spider Valve head will give me. I was looking at the M13 in conjunction I know both can work off of Midi control wich would help since I can switch effetcs on and off via midi CC's, but in looking at the new FBV and its tweek-ability can some one tell me would the rig work like this....

I would love to get the SV head, the M13, FBV MKII and be able to use the FBV to do all of my switching, amp channels, turn f/x on and off on botht the amp and the M13 and maybe even throw in the mix a expression pedal so I can do wah and maybe the whammy functions and this way only have to run a cat5 cable out front instead of 2 intrument cables, a power and a Midi cable.... any one try a set up like this yet?

Moding an Spider Valve to avoid disconnection of the Preamp Out feed to the tube amp when plugging into the Poweramp In

Hey guys!

Has anyone come up with (or can think of) a mod for the Spider Valve that could override the internal control that internally disconnects the Preamp Out feed to the tube amp when you plug into the Poweramp In jack?

See I’m kind of a routing freak! In my rig I have several effects chains (which include Pod X3 Live for both effects and preamp sims) and several amps that I combined them with. For that I have several custom made routing switches that work pretty great allowing me to choose in every amp in which input jack I want to put the signal.

The Spider Valve is one of my favorite amps so I wanna hook it up to my rig in a way that I can choose if I want the guitar signal to go into the Input jack (front), the Poweramp jack (back) or through both and the Preamp Out jack (for use with 4 cables method) depending on the chain I want to use.

But this represents a problem because I need cables hooked to all inputs at the same time all the time. When I do this to the Spider Valve, the Poweramp jack pretty much disconnects the Input jack (because what it does is send the signal out through the Preamp Out) no matter if there’s no signal coming into the Poweramp jack. Just by the fact that something is connected there, it does the disconnection.

Just to illustrate this imagine the following:

Guitar goes into an effects chain (made of fully true bypass stomps) and a Whammy and a Compressor are activated. Then it goes into the Input jack of the Spider Valve (passing through Strymon’s SVPre) where I use the Amber Blues model. But then for another part of the song I wanna change to a different effects chain that has the Pod X3 Live in it. I click a toggle in my routing switch and go into the Pod where I select a patch the has a RMC Real McCoy Wah in front of an Orange AD30TC amp which then I need to send into the Poweramp sections of the Spider Valve so that it passes through the tubes and gets amplified (this time I can’t go into the Input jack because I’ll be stacking to preamps… the one in the Spider Valve and the one selected in the Pod X3 Live).

See what I’m doing? I like the freedom to select where I want my signal whether that’s in different amps or in specific jacks within the same amp. But I can’t to this with the Spider Valve because when something is plugged into the Poweramp jack it overrides the Input jack. For all I know a dummy 1/4 cable could be connected there with no signal at all and it will still override the Input jack.

This is a shame because I’m really in love with the options that the Spider Valve can offer me and I wanna included in this scheme I use. So the only thing I can think of is taking my SV to some tech so that he can moded for me in some way that will allow me to do this, but first I wanted to check with you guys here at the forum and see if I could get some good ideas!

I own the Spider Valve MKII HD100, I've had it for about 1 month now. When editing the preloaded banks( the levels are way out of hand) it kept freezing on me. It would freeze and squeal and also just lock up. Turning it off and then back on would correct it, then while I was just playing it started running through different effects all on it's own, turning off and then back on also corrected. These issues just started to surface, it seems to not like quick editing. I say quick because now that I'm more familiar with it I can bounce around and change things fairly fast. Are these issues normal or something that needs to be addressed? Are there any software updates for the MKII? Can you even update the software on the MKII? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. The m9 does not sync properly!

The delays on the unit does sync almost good...(!)

The other effects syncs worse or even bad.(!!)

The resync thing does not help, and it is not possible for me anyway to resync while I am playing, 16th notes 100% wet hard tremolo or ObiWah.

I bought this unit for a main reason; to get effects synced with my bands backing tracks.

Strange stuff discovered: In the setup mode you can see what bpm it is supposed to recieve, but it is showing round and about 0,6 bpm under what is being sent from Ableton Live which I am using. It flickrs around but stays as described long under every bpm that is sent.

I am using a mac, ableton live and a presonus Firebox feeding the midiinput on the m9.

I can see that there are several people needing help on this matter.

We need a fix of this bug in a new update-version. Or is there some other way to fix it???

With a Eventide Timefactor it works much-much better.

Hello. Still havning major problems with the midisyncing of effects in M9. What does "to send a 1/4-noe beat clock" means? I am using Ableton Live, and tried sending out different songs (with different bpms), but it is not syncing right at all. Is there one way of adjusting the way my Ableton Live, or presonus Firebox is sending out the clock?

Workbench software will not sync edited guitar model to Variax 500

I loaded the Line 6 Monkey software, along with the Workbench software (1.58) onto my computer. With everything connected, the edited guitar model (acoustic guitar body with dropped D tuning) shows up in the software but with an orange and yellow exclamation point in front of it. when I try syncing the file to the guitar, it comes up with a midi timeout error. I had the same problem with a PC loaded with Windows XP. The Uno midisport USB device updates the software on my Vetta II just fine. It even updated the variax software just fine. It just will not update a guitar model. Is there something that can be done about this. I like the guitar but if I cannot edit the guitar models on it, there is no advantage to having it to play. I need the ability to change one of the models to acoustic with jumbo body and dropped D tuning. Another problem it has is that is doesn't register string volume when I try to open the sting volume setup page.

Hi guys,

I'm looking to have a really simple and portable studio setup. I read about the KB37 and I'm really curious as to whether it (Along with a laptop, Cubase, instruments/mics and a set of headphones or studio monitors) is everything I'd need to do record/mix an entire project. Does the KB37 act as a low latency ASIO sound card? Or would I also need an external soundcard like an M-audio Fast track Pro or a Presonus Firebox to get the full mix output (including midi vsts and all inserts) to headphones or monitors? Also, can you completely bypass all the Line6 software and just use it as a digital interface to record dry and then use other plugins like Guitar Rig or are you forced to always have extra Line6 software running?

It seems potentially really powerful but if I'd need another DI Box or couldn't just bypass all the Line6 Software when I would like to just record and use other tools, I'm probably better off to just buy a small USB sound card and midi keyboard. Thoughts?

... so apologies in advance... I've done my best to answer most of the below in FAQs etc :-)

I've been looking into getting an X3 Pro but have a number of questions, many of which I've Googled but there are a few I'm not sure on if you good people could indulge me...

1 - How good is the Tremolo? (i.e. is it usable, what settings can you control etc)

2 - If I get the basic foot controller (FBV2) the website days you can flick through "the first bank of four presets"... does this mean you literally only have access to of one bank of presets? Or does it mean you can you go up and down ABC and D of whichever bank you happen to be in? (which would be ideal)

3 - Stomp Box editing... am I correct in assuming the four black rotarys below the screen basically become your fx knobs when you're editing a pedal? (tone, gain etc)?

The reason being I do like to "fiddle" with sounds, which is why I've always used pedals, and I'd hate to feel trapped behind menus when it comes to speedily tweaking the amount of effect. I get the impression though you just select the stomp box and use these controllers? i.e. super easy??

4 - Is the tuner good? Small point but I'm trying to get rid of carrying pedals.

5 - To create a new preset from scracth, what's the default "blank" setting? Is it literally amp1/speaker1 and no fx... what I'm driving at is if, say, I just want one stomp box on a JCM800 is it a case of turning more stuff off then on? My main concern with moving to a beast like the X3 is I do tend to like quite simple dry sounds and I'm concerned I'll end up using too many fx... so I need assurance it's very easy to create simple set-ups.

6 (last one I promise) - It seems although there are acoustic settings, there's isn't an "acoustic simulator". Is it possible to get "accousticy" sounds from an flat body or semi regardless?

Just to give you the background to this, I current use a Behringer V-Amp which is ok but lacking in a few fx I require (main a tremolo) and the filth isn't great either... so I'm debating whether to replace it with an X3 or just buy a couple of extra fx boxes

POD X3 problems communicating with PC

I recently purchased a POD X3 and am running Vista 32 bit. I've been having some problems with its connections to my computer through USB. It works fine without the computer.

I have tried different methods and orders of installation of drivers and software such as Monkey, Pod Farm and Gearbox, but have not been able to make my POD work on the computer.

I installed the drivers and they look to be working. I have version 3.4.3.6 now, I was able to install the newer ones once, but still had the same problem. Now I'm unable to install these new drivers, it fails with the USB driver install.

So, where I am now: in the "Sound" box from the control panel, the POD is designated as the default device and it is working. However, no sound comes out of the POD (or reads out on the screan). For example, the tests produce no sound, and it also doesn't pick up any sound in the computer from my guitar.

Also, it won't communicate with gearbox (Code 8000900C, Midi device timed out waiting for a response). However, It does detect the pod.

Not sure if it's related, but I am also unable to update the flash memory from Monkey. again, something about the MIDI device. Confusing because this device doesn't have MIDI connectors.

So moral of the story is, I've tried everything I could find on the FAQ's and have uninstalled and reinstalled everything multiple times, but for some reason, the POD will not communicate with the computer.

I have a variax 600 and a pod x3 live. I am using the latest monkey, workbench, drivers etc. I just reflashed the variax.

Tunings from the factory work fine (like those on Custom 2).

If I try to create a tuning with workbench the string pitch is heard ALONG WITH the selected offset pitch. So I hear minor 2nd or 3rd intervals. While this make for a kool effect, it makes creating alt tunings impossible.

I'm hearing this through the amp. This problem is real and reproducible. From what I see on this site others are having the same problem.

I called tech support and waited in queue to talk to a rep. All he could say is that it shouldn't happen and that I should reflash the variax.

Can someone at Line6 take a few minutes to try creating a detuned patch with a 600 and x3 live? Does it work for you guys? How about posting a video on youtube showing the step by step?

Volume Petal Placement

I assume if I used an expression petal for volume it would take up one of the FX's, is this true?

So I've been trying to figure out some different setups for the X3 Live..What I want to know is how could I used the X3 for basically just delays, phasers, flange, and thats really it...I would use external stompboxs for distortion and overdrive (ie a TS-9 or Sparkle Drive)...then I would want those tones to come out of my amp (let's say a Vox AC-15)..to be more clear I would want this signal chain: guitar, delays (X3), overdrives, amp....or how could I do guitar overdrives, X3, amp..just some questions about setups hope you can help thanks.

XPS-AB Failure

Hi All

The XPS-AB Power Supply for my Variax 700 has just failed (Bought the guitar May time). It cut out whilst playing and made a horrible noise! There now is no power supply light lighting up on the box but the XLR and 1/4" jack lights are working which says to me that there is power coming from the transformer. Have tried unplugging and plugging in transformer plug and the power light pops on for a moment and then cuts out.

I have spoken to retailer how sold me the equipment but they were muttering something about how the distributor in the UK had changed and they were not sure if they could help. (I know that as the retailer they are responsible for the sale under the sale of goods act and must sort it out). The retailer is ESE Music in Maidstone.

What should I do? Can Line 6 replace it directly?

Please advise.

USING CABINET MODELER OR NOT?

i have been tweaking this unit.

it never ends, i am using a 5150 peavey with an mc 212 cabinet, (marshall), and lately i been really bothered by the sound i am getting, using the cabinet modeler it seems to add a weird overall bass, and i have to turn almost all the way down the bass on the x3 live, to make it sound somewhat decent but still it lacks something. i tried today without the cabinet modeler just the amp model assuming that my cabinet will color the sound anyway, what i found was a more clear sound, that does not distort as much, and you can turn up the bass on the amp model, and there you go, that amp starts pumping bass all over the way it is supossed to be. i dont know if any one has experienced this i would love to hear from you guys.

I understand the operating system is new and I wont get into a debate over reasons to upgrade or not to upgrade. Just get the software/drivers working. You are a huge company with lots of money and resources, step up to the plate. People who have new computers shipped with Snow Leopard are just out of luck or have to downgrade and spend more money? Pay people to provide support for your products, SPEND the money to find a solution. Snow Leopard was known to be in development for over a year. If Apple wouldn't work with you guys to make sure everything would be working then shame on them, but if it was Line6 that wouldn't spend the resources to make sure this was a smooth transition then shame on Line6. Either way, us consumers are at left in the doldrums by two huge corporations. Quelle surprise! Anyway…

This is most likely a Java 1.6 problem. In the following post on the apple forums it says:

Snow Leopard only ships with Java 1.6, so any applications built with Java must include support for 1.6 or the application will fail.

So I have to manually edit effects, which sucks but ah well. I can still use my PODxt Live in Garageband for now so I am ok, and being a casual player I don't mind. Thankfully I didn't purchase any additional software from Line6 or I would be a tad frustrated at the current situation.

I'm sure Line6 isn't the only company in this current situation, most software/hardware companies are currently riding on the Snow Leopard Crash Fail Train Express. Let's just hope Apple and all the software/hardware vendors can work together to find a solution and find one FAST. With that being said I still firmly stand by what I said previously:

Pay people to provide support for your products, SPEND the money to find a solution and find it promptly. Don't just come out and say ' We don't support bleeding edge' it's a new FINAL RELEASE Operating System, it's not a BETA OS. If this goes on for months and months it will only show how much Line6 really cares about it's consumers.

Monkey doesn't show Pocket POD 1.01 flash update

Hello,

I'm a customer from Germany and bought a Pocket POD back in December, 2007.

Today I read about the 1.01 flash upgrade for my Pocket POD and downloaded the Monkey software v1.31.

I connect my Pocket POD to the power adaptor first and after this connect it to my PC with the Line 6 USB cable, no other cables are connected to the POD.

The POD works fine with the Vyzex v1.17 software, so I launched the Monkey (after closing the Vyzex software). It connects to my Line 6 Account but shows "There are no updates available" :-(

The Pocket POD is registered within my account and the Monkey doesn't show any message about device registration either.

The POD shows "Version 1.00" at startup...

so your telling us that we have to use the pod farm or some audio software to hear the line inputs on the kb37? this again is misleading in your advertising. and if I use podfarm I am getting distortion on the line in even when I delete all amps and other devices from the podfarm audio chain. I also don't get a dry channel it still runs through the amps or whatever else is in the audio chain. also I am using the line 1 and 2 inputs, why am I getting audio on the 3 and 4? I am not using an spdif input????

     Question! Installing my new POD X3L Gearbox.After install it and log on I did update firmware and flash memory.I so far everything proceeded good.After Monkey disappeared update all other drivers (photo). Is that supposed to be? By MONKEY-V1.26 does not have this problem!
   In addition, the device manual I read that in the SYSTEM-POD X3L should see ESN, au I do not. ESN is the Monkey! Device effectively communicates with your computer, Monkey and Gearbox.

extreme cross modulation to aux in channel

I wanted to track two guitars with the following dual tone configuration.

Guitar one to guitar input processed with tone one routed to direct out left.

Guitar two to aux input processed with tone two routed to direct out right.

Both guitars with a high gain distortion sound.

I noticed an extreme cross modulation from the processed signal of tone one into the aux in channel every time a jack connector is put in to the aux input.

First I though it might be a misfunction of my device but I ran the same setup with the devices of one of my collegues and there was the same effect.

I guess this cannot be normal.

So what can I do to prevent such cross modulations?

UX1 MIC INPUT NOISE

My MIC entrance in my UX1 makes a lot of noise for itself, even if i have nothing plugged to it!!

Here are the printscreens (again, nothing plugged into MIC)... the noise is, as you can imagine, quite a lot, especially because the only way of hearing myself decenlty without licking the microfone is pushing up the gain up to almost 10dB.

0dB - 7dB - 8dB - 9dB - 10dB -

Please note the noise is independant from the setup i choose, it appears in the dry input as you can see. My guitar input works perfeclty, without any noise, wich makes this even stranger

Direct Monitoring Problem

I am unable to enable "direct monitoring" in cubase. I have only acquired the PODFarm plugin recently so I didn't notice this before. This was happening under cubase 3 sx and now under 5. All steinberg has to say about it is the driver doesn't support it. This is highly frustrating! I have reinstalled all line6 software/drivers and the cubase 5 is a fresh install.

Any ideas?

Here's the scenario: Let's say I want to feed the Amp Out into my Amp's FX Loop Return while simultaneously feed the Direct Out/Phones jack to the PA. I want the Amp Out sound to be without cab emulation, but I want the Direct Out/Phones sound to have cab emulation. Is this now possible given the recent fix of the Cab Tuning feature? If so, how do i set it up? The manual is silent as to whether this scenario is possible and it implies further that the Cab Tuning feature is specific only to the the Amp Out jack. If this is not the case, what did the fix really do?

I'm thinking about getting the Spider Valve Mk II HD, but I won't be getting the line cab with V30's to go with the head. Does the SV mkii model cabinet sounds like many of the other line 6 products. I own (or have owned) the Flextone III XL ( which as a wonderful combo!), Vetta II, HD147, and the spider II. I hope it does not model cabs. I have had problems with the Vetta II and HD147 not sounding great with my two genz-benz g-flex cabs (even when I turn the cab models off).

I recently bought a second-hand XT Live but I am unable to register it as it has been registered by a previous owner. (I contacted the guy I bought it from but he claims he bought it second-hand himself and it was already registered. I now have no way of contacting the guy who registered it.) I bought the Spider III 75w when it came out a few years ago. Since day one this has bugged me but i never contacted line 6 untill now.

Here's the deal, when im flipping through the presets I'll find something I like and adjust the volume. Later on when i want to flip through the presets some are way too loud.

why arent all of the presets on the same volume level? The volume levels are always jumping, its excessively annyoing to me.

Is it possible to do anything to fix this or do we just have to live with it? Thanks.

I just bought a new Spider IV 75 watt amp today. When I got home and plugged in nothing worked. Power was on, the screen lit up, but none of the knobs worked and no sound came out. I had the mastervolume all the way up and my guitar volume all the way up, I turned it on and off and reset factory settings, nothing seems to work.

I recently sent back my XDS plus wireless to Line 6 through my local store where i purchased it. It came back looking new but the same problem persists. My band plays 4 hour shows and using Energizer batteries my wireless pack won't even last an entire show. Is 3 hours normal for battery life with the XDS+? That sure seems like a short battery life for a wireless pack. At this point, I'm pretty frustrated with the unit.

Just got this amp in on the 11- 12-09 and the problems I'm having seems to be in the modeling buttons, Clean sounds like flange crunch sounds clean metal sounds crunch and so forth. I got it from Sam Ash online and would just send it back but my wife took the box's to her work (sweet thing that she is) this morning to be smashed and Sam Ash will not accept returns unless there in the original box's anyways I need to know what to do with it send it to you all or take it to one of your authorized repairman?

For some reason I'm not getting any signal on the low frequency receiver on my XDS plus unit. I've tried switching operating modes, replaced batteries, reset the unit and nothing is working. Still getting a guitar signal, but battery life led and rx1 led not lighting up. Any assist you can provide would be appreciated. Serial # on the unit is 8006861 (receiver), 8005412 (transmitter).

I hate extra noise. I use noise gates on all of my tracks except drums but it still doesn't push the quality to it's finest. I know how to mix rather well but I still can't get the quality I've been striving for on my guitars. Spider IV 150 bad breakup at low input (crackling)

Am noticing when the volume is turned down on the guitar, the Spider IV sound tends to break-up annoyingly (crackling). Sounds the same through the speakers or headphones. Is there a way to set up the amp to keep that from happening, so I can use the guitar volume for volume & tone? I tried using the volume pedal; there was none of the annoying breakup but the sound doesn't have the same swelling tone and it's a lot harder for me to adjust between rythm & lead using the pedal. The guitar is a 1970's Strat. Spider rel. 1.04.

UX2 Crashes when receiving a powerful signal?

I've had my UX2 crash on me three different ways, all related to high input levels, or so I believe.

Running a bass into the instrument input, had it turned up loud, needles were over on the right. The UX2 shut down. I unplugged/plugged it back in but Reaper wouldn't recognize it. Had to reboot everything. Creative inspiration killed instantly.

Running 2 mics into the UX2, setting levels on guitar amp. It was loud and the mic gain was up. The UX2 shut down, similar results.

Playing a mix back via Reaper, some of the levels were set high and before I could drop them, the UX2 shut down...

Is this supposed to happen when the UX2 receives too strong a signal or do I have a bad unit? I can't imagine that any level of audio input would physically damage the UX2.

Running Windows XP on a laptop, Reaper, POD Farm. This seems to happen intermittently...which makes me wonder if I have a bad piece of hardware (yet again).

Just wondering about anyone using an XT Live infront of an amp for live gigs, how do you tweak it?

ie.. do you use the xt eq and keep the amp flat, or tweak the amp too?

running my xt live infront of my 'frankenstien' vetta doesnt work well.. and i dont trust our local venues to run direct out to p/a.

how can u tweak the xt and the head to get a good output?

im considering getting hold of a Crate Powerblock to run the xt into my randall 2x12.. either that or borrow a mates Mode4..

either way.. getting a good signal from the amp is tough.. any tips?

I have a couple items I hope you nice folks can help me with. I am getting very frustrated!!!! I have been trying for days to get my workbench to work with my variax 700 acoustic & the USB interface keeps blinking red on the guitar side. I have tried 2 different computers (neither with 64 bit). I have reloaded all software (starting with just the workbench & finally loading up Guitarport/Rifftracker, Gearbox, & Pod xt [more on pod xt later].....

Here is an observation/question. I have noticed that the Guitarport & the Pod xt both have "ESN" #s while the Variax USB interface lists NONE where a number should be. Does this mean something & what can I do about it. The Monkey lets me choose the interface & I upgraded everything but when I try to click on the Variax USB INterface, it says "no device detected" & then a box comes up next saying "no device configured, we will close variax workbench" or something to that effect.

I was also concerned that I might not have USB #2 but under USB devices there are 2 listings at the bottom for "enhanced" + I know my laptop is new enough to have USB2 (though right now I am trying to use everything on my older desktop that I had when I purchased all of this stuff).

With the laptop, I uninstalled everything & then just installed the monkey & workbench & with no other usb devices plugged in, I went around to all 6 usb ports built in to the laptop (there are 4 on the back & 2 on the side). Is it obvious which ones are enhanced or is it likely that they all are?

More important than anything, I just want to tweak my variax in the workbench program I paid good money for (not to mention the fact that I won 2 Guitarports, a shortboard & Podxt, Rifftracker, gearbox and a Variax 700 Acoustic.

Also, a problem has come up with Podxt. In the Monkey (which allows me to choose between Guitarport, USB interface & Pod xt), when I click on the Pod xt there is a caution sign that an update is available. When I click on this it tells me "Important: Your hardware hardware has not yet been activated to allow all the features you purchased." I am to press activate in the optional add ons tab. Each time I try to do this or update the one caution item (USB Firmware) , it goes through the motions & then says "error" "Warning, the transaction verification failed...If problem persists (which it has) click support button. You will not need to purchase another license key to fix this problem......

Again, this problem is secondary to me & way down on the list from getting the Variax USB interface to stop blinking red on the guitar side & let me use the workbench program. In a nutshell for now, is the lack of an ESN number got anything to do with the problem? Any other suggestions? LINE 6 got any suggestions?

I thank anyone & everyone who has tried & will continue to try to help me. I am sure a sledge-hammer isn't going to fix the USB interface the way I want it to work!!!

Calibrate FBV Express MKII with Spider III 75 amp

My FBV Express pedal does not control volume or Wah. It will switch between the two fine, but moving the pedal has not effect. I tried to calibrate with this method:

FBV Express

1) Unplug the RJ45 cable from your FBV EXPRESS

2) Move the expression pedal all the way to the toe down position

3) Hold down the A and D switches

4) Plug in your RJ45 with the switches still depressed and hold this for 10 seconds (you will see the LED go blank)

5) Move the expression pedal to the heel position and then all the way forward to the toe.

6) Shift all of your weight to the toe position (you will want to stand up) until the WAH light switches on.

7) Wait 10 seconds and click back to VOL. Your FBV EXPRESS is now calibrated.

But on step 4, the LED never goes blank. Are these compatible? I am doing something wrong?

HP laptop vs. POD Studio UX2

Hey, I have a Line 6 POD Studio UX2, and also have a HP laptop. But everytime i got to use my UX2, theres big time glitches comming from my headphones. I tried everything that other people told me, and also what the manuels told me to do, i also called the support line, and still didnt help. So now im wondering if there something i can change in my computer, for it to not have any glitches sound? Because one of the guys told me from support is that POD studios dont work well with HP laptops, witch I find rediculouse, so any help would be awsome. Thanks.

PodXT not connecting on OS X via USB

I have a PodXT and I am trying to get it connected to my mac. I have a new MacBook (unibody one). Its running Leopard 10.5.6

I have downloaded the latest drivers, 4.1.0.

Its not detected in either Gearbox or Line6 Monkey.

I can connect to the PodXT using midi but GuiterPort Online doesn't support midi.

I've looked at a few posts on here and there are similar problems. Some have been solved by connecting directly to the mac rather than using a USB Hub. I have tried both and neither work.

Any help would be great.

I was just noodling around in the music store and an old friend that works there was saying that his band was looking for a lead player....he knew i did a single act before so he didn't think i would be interested....neither did I haha.

It sounded like the rest of the band was really easy going and he really liked playing with them. So I said to him, "ya know, i play a little..." He seemed pretty happy about that idea, and suddenly i was wondering...what did I say that for?

I liked playing in bands, but I hated when stuff went sour between people...or when it was time to quit. Doing a single act had pluses and minuses, too. The fear of commitment was what came up again right away. I didn't want to get myself in some of the spots I've been in in the past. So i figured I would just jam for fun and see what happened, and be totally honest about where i'm coming from and what i'm looking for.

It turns out the band is really cool older guys and a nice chick singer, and want to do some corporate gigs and casinos. That is pretty much the main things i would want in a band at this point. Good people, good paying gigs, someone I know for years in the band, no babysitting and drama, just take care of my end of things and have fun.

So it's been coming for a couple months now, lots of delays and anticipation by now. I guess it was actually more of an audition tonight. The other guitar player played a PRS and XTLive for effects with a MarshalI. I took my PRS and X3L with that little black box in the loop out and ran it through the board and a little keyboard amp for my monitor.

Man, did it sound good! It was really fun. They are a great bunch, calm (good because i'm a little hyper haha) talented, and they actually applauded after I played the slide stuff on Tush! It all felt pretty good. I think everyone was pretty happy and excited to get going. So far, so good

Non-working power adaptor

My name is Robert, and i'm from Wollongong Australia. I recently purchased a brand new Pod X3 off of an american ebay user, which arrived here two days ago. Due to the difference in power supplies between the US and Australia, i bought a 240->120 step-down transformer to be able to use the power adaptor for your product, however, upon plugging it in today, i found that my Pod did not work. I got out an electrical meter, and discovered that there is no voltage coming out of the Pod X3's power adaptor that arrived with the product (the seperate transformer was putting out the correct amount).

My question is two-fold in nature: Firstly, does this non-working adaptor get covered under warranty? If so, how do i claim this warranty? Furthermore, are there Pod power adaptors that are specifically made for the australian 240v power supply?

In case it's of any assistance, my X3's registration number is (21)X3B1S5931002196.

I can't find anywhere to specifically address this issue. I'm thinking of selling my current PODxtLive and BassPODxt so I can get a PODX3Live. I just love the 'everything in one place' idea, with both guitar and bass as well as vocal options, and mixing and matching them, plus dual tone. But, you know all this, don't you?

What vexes me is not knowing, before I do this, whether I can use the Varriax input for ALL my Variax guitars. I've got the Variax700 Electric, Acoustic AND Bass guitars. Will I be able to plug them all in to the PODX3Live (Obviously, not at the same time)? If the answer is 'yes', then that puts me over the edge. Thanks for your time.

Connecting POD 2.0 to the computer

Hi.

I am new with all this. I bought a POD because I met someone that recently began playing electric guitar(a customer).

He told me that POD 2.0 was cool, because I could download effects and stuff.

Now I'm standing and not knowing "how" to download these effects.

The problem is not how to install the program or actually download the effects.

The problem is that I don't know how to connect my POD to the computer.

I tried using a jack cable connected to the right and left output slots in the POD and then

I used the other side of the jack and connected it to what seemed like the "line in slot"

to my sound card. It says Line In at the back of my cabinet. We are talking about a static computer.

I tried using that filemonkey software but it couldn't detect that my POD was in.

Should I use another software or am I doing it all wrong?

I also bought a stealthplug because I was told that it could help me to connect the POD to my computer

and edit the music.

I don't know how to activate my sound card to communicate with my POD. How do I do that?

Am I even writing the right place? All this is very confusing and I could really need some support from someone.

And I use windows XP.

I really want to download some metal effects or maybe some effects with Eric Clapton so it could be cool if someone could link a guide

that I need or at least tell me what to do :=)

Spider IV and MAC

I've currently got Pod Farm running fine on my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard (it did from the start - not sure what caused many peoples issues).

However I'm aware Monkey is not fully working on Snow Leopard. There are some empty areas and missing information when viewing my Pod Studio UX1 data via Monkey.

My question is, if I buy a Spider IV 75 (and Shortboard MkII), will Monkey successfully update the Spider IV software to the latest version, or is that not likely to work on the current version of Monkey when running Snow Leopard??

I made sure everything was uptodate before upgrading the OS to Snow Leopard so have not currently had to try to update the UX1, so dont really know what works and what doesn't at the moment.

Will Monkey recognise the Spider IV? and will the "updates" area have all the info present etc rather than being empty etc etc

Any solid answers would be very handy, so I can go and buy the amp.

Just wondering if there is any new on the G50 and G90.

My gig guitars are all piezo equipped and I really nead a stereo wireless sytem so that I can use both the output from my magnetic pickups and my piezo pickups at the same time. This must be a very common request and I would imagine be very easy to implement on the upcoming G50/G90 models. At the moment I use two G30's, but its a real pain making sure all the transmitters have their batteries charged and two recievers take up alot of space on my cramped pedal board.

Please line6 make the G50 stereo compatibile, it would completely dominate the wireless guitar market!!!

My XDS95 experiences a distorted output after about 15-20 min of use. If i re-power the unit or simply change channels it functions properly for another 15-20 minutes. The receiver is powered on a pedal board with dedicated power of 9v 100mA. The transmitter is powered by either rechargable 9v or regular duracell alkaline. It happens with either battery. I have tried several options such as removing receiver from the board, and have also replaced a cable that was sent by you guys a couple months ago. (thanks by the way. great customer support). I am only about 6 feet from the receiver when i play. If you have any suggestions on what else i can do to troubleshoot, would be willing to try that otherwise please advise if warrantee service is needed.

Hello,

I have a UX8 that suddenly stopped working, when i pluged a guitar in INST, port 1

What happened, is that the UX suddenly froze, some clip lights were on, others were dim red, it simply felt like my system was twitching.

So i tried to turn it off, but it didnt work.

I unpluged it and when I pluged it back in and turned it on, the clip lights were going form left to right ( the two clip lights next to the meters were not on nor were they flashing).

and i cannot turn it off, so I have to unplug it again..

I thought it was a tough piece of hardware..

Can anybody please tell me what has gone wrong?

G30 Relay noise

Purchased a G30 last week, gigged on Saturday night and was really happy with the wireless performance, the only concern was that a got a humming noise when close to my amp.

I use a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue and an M13 stompbox running to the front of the amp with clean channel only.

Please advise as I need to remove this noise issue ASAP.

I just bought my pocket Pod today and downloaded and installed VyzexPocketPOD1p05Setup.zip. When I plug my PocketPOD into my laptop I get the windows message about finding new hardware and it being intalled ok. However, when I start the Vyzex Editor I get the dialog "There are no MIDI IN ports selected! ..... " and the editor does not find the pocket pod.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 2.

This sounds like the same problem as posted by quicklan " 'Error message "AutoSense could not find the line 6 Pocket POD"' in Vyzex Editor".

I would be grateful for your assistance.

Packaging Contains Incorrect BNC Connector

I purchased a Line 6 XDR95 wireless system a couple months ago. Tonight, I tried to mount the XDR into a new rack I just purchased.

The two, black metal rack ears have a "key" on the large hole through which the BNC connectors pass.

However, only one of the BNC connectors have the key "flat" area on the threads. I was able to mount one of the BNC connectors, but I need you to send me a correct part that has the flat area on the threads so that I can mount the other side.

For more clarification, the part, to which I refer, is found on page 5 of the manual under Step 1: Preparing Rack Ears for Installation.

Attached is an image showing one correct part and one incorrect part.

Spider III 75 and Spider IV 75 have same presets, but dont sound the same at all?

On the spider III presets such as (Royal Lush, Riggs, Honky Tonk) just too name a few, are on the spider IV also. But on the spider IV they do not sound the same at all.

For instance the Riggs on the spider III has a harder more metal tone, and the Riggs on spider IV is a more heavy crunch. Why do the presets not match sound wise?

Okay Musicians Friend is running a sale on these babies knocking them down below $500.00 so I went ahead and took the plunge knowing that the Valve II is probably just around the corner but I won't be able to afford it and since I have heard primarily glowing reviews of this amp I went ahead and bought one.

Now I was wondering what will be best way for me to record to Sonar in my PC with this amp.

I was thinking of just running usb out of Podxtl and still sending a clean signal so I can re-amp later as I have found this very useful in changing up tones on the fly and then going xlr out or just using a mic on the SVHD 100 and my 4x12 so I can get feedback and other tones form it:

Also I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for SVHD100 Podxtl setup that works best. I've heard good things about using it in loop and I guess I'm wondering if this would allow me to use both the xtl and onboard effects of the SV together to layer Chorus and flange ..or two delays etc...:

Llevo tiempo tocando en mi grupo con un amplificador Peavy y un POD XT Live, y la verdad es que no tengo quejas de ninguno de los dos, pero hemos llegado a una situacion en la que necesito tener algo mas de potencia, y he estado mirando amplificadores, y el LINE6 SPIDER VALVE HD100 me gusta bastante, la cosa es que he estado mirando y se ve que los canales y demas del ampli se pueden conmutar mediante el FBV prees y el LINE6 FBV-SHORTBOARD USB, pero yo me preguntaba si por medio de mi XT Live podria ya conmutar los canales de ese amplificador, sin necesidad de comprar el Shortboard, por que asi podría aprovechar el XT para tocar en casa con el Peavy y en el ensayo conmutar los canales del amplificador. No se si he expresado bien mi duda, si no es asi por favor decidmelo e intentare expresarme mejor, un saludo y gracias de antemano!

I just won a Vetta head with issues on eBay and I do not have it yet nor have I paid for it. I'm hoping not much of a problem to fix....I got it cheap, I was not expecting it to sell that low. Here are his words direct from eBay........it turns on...lights up...all menus..knobs work.....the cab has a speaker thump like its gonna work when you turn it on...but nothing comes out.....if you go out the line outs you can hear it..and record direct...but i cannot get the amped outs to work....i may be doing something wrong..it may be broken...either way im thru with messing with it....i have reinstalled software 3 times on it with no luck..im over it......cosmetically it is in great condition..not perfect...but really good...it has not been gigged with ..only studio use.

I'm thinking the external speakers are turned off since he was using it to record and for got to turn them back on. Will external speakers not work if they are turned off? Could there possibly be another problem going on here? Not too much invested so far so if it's a few hundred dollars to fix it, I'm not that concerned, I would think that if something major was wrong the direct outs would not work either.

I purchased a Spider III early in 2009 and have been using it consistantly with no complaints until recently. Long story short.... I hurt my back really bad doing some work for my father and herniated one of my discs in my lower back. Needless to say this has made lugging around the amp to practice and what not a real downer as the amp only had the one handle on the top. This is the 2x10 version. So, I decided out of shear necessity that I would install some side handles and casters to accomidate my back handicap. My question was: will doing this have voided my warranty on the amp as I still should have 2 more years left on the warranty. If so, all I can say is: O'well. And just for future reference I would recommend that Line6 install more ergonomic hardware on these combo amps. They really are a hassle to lug around with just the top strap handle. Its very awkward to lift and carry...especially up 3 flieghts of stairs! At least now I can apply proper lifting tecnique and not further injure myself. Please respond at your convenience.

POD Farm Plugin Audio Cuts In/Out When I Edit- But Works Otherwise???

I have a registered POD XT Live, which I use (as a dongle, effectively) with the basic POD Farm, which was a free download in September. When I instantiate the plugin inside Cubase (4.52), all is well. The sound is fine and works as it should.

THE PROBLEM: When I open the POD Farm Plugin GUI to change an amp tone, or otherwise edit the sound, I get audio dropouts lasting several seconds at a whack, interspersed with an occasional (brief) bit of sound. It makes editing the tone virtually impossible. Once I close the GUI, the plugin works fine again.

THE SYSTEM: It's a Quad Core AMD 2.8 w 4 gigs of RAM. I have Guitar Rig 3 and a few other amp sims that work perfectly at the 256 buffer setting I use. The size of the project doesn't matter, I get this problem even if it's the only track in the project.I also have a UAD Duo and Liquid Mix, which both operate without issues. Bottom line is that the system is brutally powerful and this is the only glitch. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the POD Farm, as well as all of the other drivers.

I would really appreciate a fix for this, as I'm very pleased with the sound of the POD Farm and would like to be able to rely on it. As it sits, it's worthless. Please help.

I have a DL4 and everytime I use the AC power adapter on the DL4 modeler, it only powers it on for 30 sec then dies.

Is this a problem with the female plug inside the DL4 unit or is it the power adapter itself?

I have a GuitarPort (with Bass Expansion and FX Junkie) that is licensed and working great with Gear Box. (Note I also have updated the most recent version of Line6 Monkey as well) I also just purchased Propellerhead Record, which is working fine on its own. My problem is that I can't get my tones from my GuitarPort/GearBox to work within Record. When I open Record, I get an error message saying Line6 Models could not be added because my "hardware isn't updated for use with Record yet." I am then prompted to go to http://line6.com/phrecord/ and follow instructions. However, that site simply says I need to click "Activate Features" within Line6 Monkey to activate GuitarPort to work with Record - and I have no "Activate Features" button in Line6 Monkey - there is an "Activate Purchase" button, but when I click that it asks me for my "license code." (Note that within Line6 Monkey, Record does not have a green button next to it, despite the fact that I have purchased and registered it) Where do I get that license code? I've tried my "License Number" and "Registration Code" that came with Record, but neither works.

Please tell me where to get my "license code" to 'activate my purchase' of Record in Line6 Monkey.

I've decided that having a pair of Boss BCB60's http://www.flickr.com/photos/rowbinet/3642922009/in/set-72157619980358260/ was a little mental, especially when I always use them together (all gain stomps in one and dfelay, verb and mod in the other). so in total that's a width of 1m34cm and a depth of 37cm, for a total of 12 pedals (2 of those are noisegates). so let's call it 10 pedals.

then there's another problem, that the boss supplied daisy chain power supply and cable, isn't suitable for the 3 Line6 tonecore pedals or the Boss giga-delay. so as there's not enough room for a proper pedal power block (like a voodoo labs) I have to have a total of 6 wall warts for my boards... that's just mental.

SO HERE'S THE SOLUTION:

I will construct a single HUGE pedalboard using a cheap guitar case.

I will take photos during the project, and then if anyone else has a crazy desire to have a massive pedalboard, they can just follow what I did :-) I will also do a cost comparison between the pair of BCB60's inc all the power supplies, vs my guitar case pedalboard + voodoolabs, PSU, etc. I will base it on a cost to put a pedal in the case, and hopefully the guitar case version will come out the same cost or cheaper :-)

Just got my brand new VERBZILLA today and want to use the trails feature, but when I switch it on, there is noticable static/hum while the effect is OFF. I just want to know if this normal? I'm guessing with the trails feature enabled, the FET bypass is disabled?

My set up is:

Les Paul Standard w/ Burstbucker Pros

Boss TU-2

Ibanez TS9

VERBZILLA

into the front of:

JCM 800 2203

I tested it like this:

1) Effect is off, trails is OFF. some amp hum is audible from speaker

2) Effect is off, trails is turned ON, increased hum from speaker is audible

All pedals are powered by PEDAL POWER 2. Anyone else have this problem? Please note that I don't have an effects loop on my amp.

i'm close to sealing the deal on one of these units. Thanks to a few for their input so far. I'm leaning towards the m13 simply because of the effects loops feature for mods and delays. I'd prefer the more compact m9 if I could be confident that these effects (modulations and delays) worked well in front of the amp. I've heard some results through Youtube but it's tough to tell.

Any gigging musicians using the m9 in front of their amp? What do you think? How do you feel about the modulations and delays in front of the amp (not in the loop)? Is the sound good? great? Bad unless used through the loop? I have found delay in particular not so good in front of my amp. Is it different with the line6 delays?

I've got a IV Spider 75 and very happy with it.

But I've got one gripe - and Line 6 are not the only manufacturer who haven't sussed this yet.

When I'm using a preset, and got it set to volume level for home use. I switch to another preset, and get blown out of the window .

Now I'd have thought it to be simple to use the same volume settings across all the presets for a session. Just reseting them to the defaults volumes when powered up again?

Since I don't wish to set them each time I switch preset. Equally do not wish the go through all presets changing them for home use, then back to gig level....etc etc.

A little intuition from the amp would be helpful, ie recognising the levels the unit is being played at.

No Sound from POD X3

Hi all,

This is the situation. I downloaded a patch into my X3 and saved it. Half way playing through my X3, suddenly the sound gone. I tried to change to other preset, there was still no sound. Below were my actions trying to rectify the problem:

- switched it OFF then ON again - no sound

- changed to TUNER mode, the tuner did not have any input signal.

- tried using other guitars and cables - no sound

- swtiched it OFF then ON it again the next day - no sound

Im totally clueless of what had happened to my unit. For info, my unit has never had any problem for the past 2 years. Please help.

Didn't find any matching info. I am using a Spider IV 75 together with a FBV Express Mk.II and while the quick-loop is a really nice feature, sometimes it can be annoying when it starts by accident. This isn't a big issue while being in the practising room, but could be in a live situation. Well I finally figured out my first problem, that was caused by having the device plugged into a hub.

So on to my second problem, again everything has been updated and computer meets specifications.

Now, everything is showing that the connections are good, and the pod shows up when I start Line 6 Edit, but when the Tone Locker tries to connect I am getting a midi timeout. At the same time the process bar is showing it trying to connect the display on the pod fade in and out not completely out just dim a little.

XDS+: RX2 light not lit

The RX2 light isn't lit when I'm at my rehearsal location, but lights fine at home. I tried shutting down all other wireless units active in the space, but it still wouldn't light. Took the wireless home and powered up, both RX lights come on. I also noticed two dropouts tonight at rehearsal even though I was no more than 10 feet away from the receiver. This has never happened before. What gives?

Second owner guitar port online registration?

Well i have put this on a few times and have been unavailable once i was contacted so i am gonna try it again. i have a guitar port that i was given and the original owner is not available to reset the serial number. Please someone set up a support ticket for me so i can finally get my name on this thing and update my programs. thanks

I already have Pod studio Ux2.I bought Pod farm Platinum, I bought Ilok Usb key, I activated the program on web site, i download it on my ilok the license, I download pod farm from line6, I tried to open it with the usb key, but the pod farm that i opened was the normal pod farm. What do I have to do for pod farm platinum? Please help me!

My line 6 flexitone 111 xl plus loses volume after a few minutes which has the affect of losing tone. Can this be fixed if so how. Will having a service fix this problem

Spider 3 30w stuck on Crunch

My amp is about 1 year old, (maybe 2.. i dont remember) and about a month ago this started to happen: I would be playing on Insane, Clean, or Metal, and the amp would randomly switch itself to Crunch and be stuck there. Turning the amp off and letting it sit for a few minutes used to help but it would inevitably happen again. Now when i turn it on it's stuck on Crunch to begin with. Every other knob works, i jsut cant switch channels... WHAT IS WRONG? AND WHAT DO I DO? HEEELLLPP!!

For me, it was James Hetfield and the ...And Justice For All album. When it came out in 1988, I was 14 years old, and had just recently been introduced to the metal scene when my family moved and I had to switch to a different school. Man, I was immediately hooked, not only on metal, but on wanting to play the guitar. Back in those days, it seemed like James Hetfield was a god. My entire playing style emulated his, right down to the insane art of downpicking everything. Couldnt do that these days, lol, once I learned alternate picking I never looked back.

FBV Express pedal

My FBV Express pedal does not control volume or Wah. It will switch between the two fine, but moving the pedal has no effect on level. I upgraded to the lastest firmware and I tried to calibrate with this method:

Start with your FBV device not connected to any USB port or Line 6 device (and, therefore, powered “off”).
Press and hold down the “D” labeled footswitch while you “power on” your FBV (by connecting to your computer’s USB port, or Line 6 device with which you plan on using your FBV). Upon release of the D footswitch, the FBV Tuner’s numerical display will read “1”.
Press the on-board pedal forward fully and hold down pedal’s Toe Switch until the Tuner display changes to “2”. This should occur instantly.
While holding the pedal in the “heel” (minimum) position, press the D footswitch. The Tuner display will change to “3”.
Move the pedal to the toe (maximum) position, without clicking the Toe Switch. Allow the pedal to rest in the toe position (maximum) and press the D button. The LEDs above the Tuner’s numerical display will light.
Move the pedal and verify that the LEDs above the Tuner’s numerical display sequentially turn off as the pedal moves to the minimum position, and sequentially light up when the pedal is moved to the maximum position.

Your FBV MkII should now be calibrated. Press D to return to normal operation.

Everything works as it is supposed to except: Move the pedal and verify that the LEDs above the Tuner’s numerical display sequentially turn off as the pedal moves to the minimum position, and sequentially light up when the pedal is moved to the maximum position.

Moving the pedal at this stage has no effect on the lights.

Is the pedal bad? I have been looking for answer for months.

Want to do this on the cheap. Willing to buy new/used/whatever. Willing to build my own from a kit. Having browsed teles for the better part of the last 2 years, I've got a few "must haves" on the guitar, which include:

(1) maple neck and fretboard. Non-negotiable.

(2) two pickups, single coil. Also non-negotiable.

(3) color needs to be consistent with the vintage look. Surf green, vintage cream, butterscotch. I saw a copper one that looked pretty cool.

I'm not normally such a "show" guy w/ guitars, but I have a weird thing with tele's. Dunno why.

Options I've looked at, from lowest to highest price include:

(1) build your own kit, e.g. http://store.guitarfetish.com/testgukifete.html

Advantages: Cheap. Can paint whatever color I like. Will learn a bit about guitar hardware.

Disadvantages: I'd have to buy a different neck (see req. #1, above). Pups probably suck. Even a master builder might end up with a lemon. I'm likely to botch the whole thing b/c of lack of experience, skill and talent.

(2) buy a bottom of the barrel knockoff, e.g. http://store.guitarfetish.com/xvsicusobo.html or http://www.rondomusic.com/stl50.html

Advantages: Cheap. Get to bit*h if someone else screws up the build. Can upgrade components as needed (presumably easier than building one from scratch, but maybe not).

Disadvantages: Like will get what I pay for. All components likely suck.

(3) buy cheap, new Squier tele, maybe even the "Vintage Vibe" tele that seems to be getting great reviews.

Advantages: Brand name/returnable w/ 30 day return policy. Vintage vibe line gets really good reviews, probably not a bad starter tele.

Disadvantages: More expensive than other approaches. Still may not sound good and/or feel good.

(4) buy good, used tele - maybe a MIM or even MIJ Fender?

Advantages: can spend less on a project guitar that I can mod as I like. Can spend more and get a player. Can modify with neck/pups as I like.

Disadvantages: no guarantees, likely more expensive, the more I have to do re project work the more opporunities I have to screw it up.

I'm actually willing to consider selling my very, very nice American Deluxe 50th Anniversary strat (worth roughly $1,000) to buy a less expensive nice strat and use the extra to finance a nice tele.

Please let me know your thoughts, experiences, speculation, whatever.

Line 6 Toneport UX1 Makes Noise and Pops

I´ve been using my UX1 with an Intel-based laptop running WXP Sp3 and it worked perfectly for the last months. One month ago, I got an HP TX2000 series laptop (AMD Turion X2, Ati Radeon 3200, 2gb RAM) running Vista and my UX1 just can´t seem to work. I´ve updated everything to the latest drivers, tried disabling Wireless, Onboard Soundcard and everything that has been sugested in this forum, but nothing seems to work. When I change buffer sizes I get some difference (some sounds I play in the guitar are recognizable) but it´s still no good. Is there any known issue with Toneport UX1 and Vista or AMD?

I'm running two SM 57s through the mic inputs on the toneport, and into my Macbook pro via USB. The computer sees the toneport, but the toneport doesn't seem to register any signal (the "level" meters on the unit do not move, and the software (garageband) also doesn't show any signal coming through. I have updated the drivers and the firmware to the latest versions.

JM4 Looper - SD card problems

Hi,

I have the JM4 looper with firmware version 2.09 installed from new but am having problems with SD card functionality.

I have tried 2 SD cards now - both smaller than 2gb - and get the same problem. Every time I try to access the SD card through the looper menu (whether trying to format the card, saving or transfering files from card to looper and vice versa), the looper seems to go straight in to a re-boot or re-start - I never actually get to access the card.

I've also tried recording a track and saving it to the card but get the message "invalid characters in filename" despite only using the suggested file name given by the unit.

Is the unit faulty or there something I need to do?

Also, any chance of allowing playback of mp3 files on the next firmware update? I'm sure this would appeal to anyone and everyone.

I got my Tone Port Silver with great anticipation and was stunned to discover that it simply will not work with Snow Leopard. First hiss and scratch, then it fails with a disk playing, and I still cannot get it to work Online.

Utterly stupefying.

Line 6, you have to think that a good portion of the people who responded to the Tone Port offer would be (a) amateur musicians and (b0 likely to upgrade to Snow Leopard. This means that the onus is firmly on YOU to make sure that your product is compatible, and any incompatibility is addressed and fixed quickly. Yes, we all know it is not your fault that Apple released a software update, but basically the whole world has known this was coming!

Shame on you for leaving who knows how many customers in the lurch.

If I could find a competitive product I would use it, no question about it. I suspect that Line 6 people might think that this means they can think "screw the customers, they can wait since we are the only game in town" but that attitude will directly lead to business failure. Ask Microsoft how well institutional arrogance has worked for them.

In closing, I think that you all had better work somewhat harder to make sure this problem is addressed and fixed or you will see more and more damage done to you Company's name as well as an exodus of current customers to companies more inclined to work with the end user.

Permanently saving a custom tone to my Pocket Pod

I just got a Pocket Pod. I hooked up the unit with the USB cable and it is functioning through the software.

What numbers are the empty presets in a new pocketpod and how do I permanently save a custom tone that I like to one of those presets. I assume that I would want to be saving the custom tone to an empty preset?
