XT Live - LIVE!?

Just wondering about anyone using an XT Live infront of an amp for live gigs, how do you tweak it?

ie.. do you use the xt eq and keep the amp flat, or tweak the amp too?

running my xt live infront of my 'frankenstien' vetta doesnt work well.. and i dont trust our local venues to run direct out to p/a.

how can u tweak the xt and the head to get a good output?

im considering getting hold of a Crate Powerblock to run the xt into my randall 2x12.. either that or borrow a mates Mode4..

either way.. getting a good signal from the amp is tough.. any tips?

I currently have a Variax 500/Pod XT Live/Tech 21-60 Watt Amp/Tech 10 Small Amp & 2-Dan Electro Guitars. I am an old school Acoustic, Blues, Funk, Jazz & Rock Musician. Besides orginal music I play & sing a lot of Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Johnny Lee Hooker, Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull & some Elvis Costello!

Considering/Attempting to perform single with The Bose L1 Model 1 Single Bass & upgrade to the new Pod XT3 Live for Vocals & Guitars [Variax & Dan Electro].

Or I could keep my Pod XT Live and add the Bose Tone Mixer/Modeler etc. or maybe a small mixer with some reverb.

Venues would range from Bars, Restaurants, Coffee Shops to even background stuff at some book stores.

Does any of the above make sense to any of you older band/bar/concert gig performers?

One question on the new XT3 Live what else can I run with vocals [single amp modeling or duo etc,]. I assume just vocal & guitar [Acoustic or electric]

Line 6 X3 Live thru JBL PA System?

I am currently getting ready to start building the stage and was hopeing to get some good advise on what set up I should go with. I am a simple person so I like simple solutions.

I currently own a Line 6 x3 Live and I love it. It sounds great thru just the little practice PA (Yamaha Stagepas 300) and I love how it doesnt take up hardly any room at all. We are getting geared up to start playing a few little shows around towns the surounding areas and we have equipment but it is outdated and cosmetically UGLY! I have been eyeballin the JBL PRX Series of Speakers due to the fact its JBL, its pleasing to the eye, wood cabinets and have heard these before and fell in love with them. With the speakers, mixer, and Line 6 x3 I think with a good set of monitors to go with should be great for all players.

Has anyone done this and if they did, how did it sound?

Pod X3...amp? pa? monitor?

After reading a few posts on using a monitor or powered pa speaker, what I hear are people using the atomic or pw60. For my price range I think I will opt for the pw60(212){love 12's}.

But, as a bass player with a bass podxt, what would be a suitable amplifier with the same credentials as the atomic or the pw60?

I currently use an Eden cxc110 w/115xlt ext. cab. I connect the pod using both outputs (model & d.i.) to both inputs on the Eden. Gotta say, sounds pretty good, according to the drummer. (eq on the amp are flat).

Is there another option I could explore?

Although, I am happy with this configiration.

hey, just bought a 150w combo amp, and i love it. perfect, love the tone, no problems after 2 weeks.

but i looked on the back of the amp, and saw to ports. 8 ohm extension left and right ports. so i got to thinking, are these for expanding to a stack? i think it would be wicked to have a combo ontop of a cab, so 470 watts. haha. can anyone answer my quesion? thank you.

Control Gearbox using a pedal

How do I change the tones on my gearbox using a foot pedal?

I can work this thing in my room using a mouse ..but if I want to change tones live while playing.. how is that done? I cant be expected to go to the computer and change the tone using a mouse in the middle of a song

Do I need to buy a separate add on to export the tones ? What hardware do I need to buy to be able to connect to the computer and change the tones just like I would use any other distortion pedal?

LD400 Wheels

With regards to the removable wheels on the LD400 Pro, does anyone know where I can get braked one's for these?

The wheels are great but it's a shame Line 6 didn't think to make 2 of them lockable! I was going to leave them on the combo (for the first time) at my gig on Saturaday however the stage was like a hard vinyl and I had visions of the cab rolling around the stage, so I ended up taking the wheels off anyway.

I preusume the removable wheels are a generic trade supply item so there must be wheels out there of the exact same size that have a brake device fitted?

I've only owned this one weekend, but - it gets real loud real fast. I would like to be able to run this thing on 10 (Master Volume) so I get the full benefit of powertube overdrive. But that's not a reality in the clubs around here. (With low wattage tube amps running EL84s it is possible and sounds awesome with endless sustain)

So has anyone ever tried purchasing the yellow jackets and el84s for this amp? And, would this void the warrantee?

I play my XT Live through my Fender Deluxe Reverb and am totally happy with it. However, as I'm using the Variax, I'd like to put the acoustic tones through the PA instead of through the amp. I don't run anything stereo, so I'm thinking that I could run all my electric patches through the left channel into the guitar amp, and the acoustic patches through the right channel to go through the PA.

Anyone do this? Can it work?

I've been using my UX2 in my room perfectly for recording or just practicing guitar and bass. I run all my sound through it so I even play my music through it. However I have recently encountered problems when using it live...

The moment it leaves my room things go wrong. I use the same laptop, the same ux2, the same cables... everything...

I would plug my guitar into my UX2, the Ux2 line out to a PA mixer, and at first it will work fine, but randomly it will cut out and all sound will go, I will have to reset everything to get the sound back. Any ideas?

Suggestions for stage use of X3L

Hi folks, Im new to the Line 6 thing. Picking up an X3 Live next week. I gig about twice a month and have been used to using rack gear (seperate preamp, multi effects and power amp) controlled by a Behringer FCB101 and a Morley Wha. My setup gives me "on the fly" use of what amounts to a four channel amp and 5 stomp boxes (reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, harmony, wha) so I can be spontaneous without much "tap dancing", but not very adjustable. So I am wondering what are the most popular setups for using the X3 Live, "live". Is it better to pre-program channel/effects changes per song (ie. setting up a series of one click patches to change from clean/chorus to driven/ delay and back) or is it better to set up a patch that I "modify" using the top row buttons? I'm hoping to keep some ability to alter things on the fly should the mood strike (ever just not be in the mood for chorus even if the song was recorded with it?). Is there a better wahy to use this device that I don't know about. I am hoping to get some ideas on what useers have found works best in live situations. Thanks in advance.

Liqua Flange for ADT?

I'm looking for a REALLY good sounding way for doing live ADT (automatic double tracking) and the cheapest option I've found thus far is Line 6's Liqua Flange, but all the clips I've found are using it as a true flanger, which is far too much influence for what I'm shooting for. Does anyone have any experience using this pedal in stereo with very subtle settings?

Line 6 packs an ADT feature into their vetta amps, and I'm betting their X3 Live if not the Pod XT Live as well. In the vetta you have full control over not just the stereo mix and level of these signals, but you also have control over the time window and how random the time swings get. The Liqua flange has a "random" wave setting, but that doesn't really do me any good I think. I need a random time setting if I can get it. I've gotten really good results from the Vetta's ADT capability and it really didn't take much. Just some 30-40% stereo spread with some very soft settings and the sound gets extremely thick and rich. I really wish someone made a pedal just for this purpose.

For reference I play mostly humbucking guitars (many times with the neck p-up coil split) into vintage style tube amps. My signal goes from the guitar straight into a Zoom G2G for light overdrives mostly, to a tubescreamer, then DD-3 Delay, to the newer Digitech brand Jamman through to the amp's input. I don't use effects loops for the most part, and generally avoid them except for special cases.

I plan on converting a Hi-Fi stereo amp I have to guitar duties soon and that will be my new stereo rig. Hopefully that will be underway in about 6 months and I'll have this ADT problem sorted out by then.

PODxt Pro + Marshall AVT 150 combo..

I've been trying hard to get a good sound of the PODxt Pro connected to the front input of a Marshall AVT 150 combo. I've tried several settings (with tone correction), including one that was posted here for the AVT 100, which was lows 76% focus 580hz highs 54%, output at 9 o'clock.. and with my amp on clean, gain 50%, volume 50%, lows 0%, mids 100%, highs 0%, presence 0%..

Can anyone guide me in a better direction? I'm looking for a clean, sharp sound like plugging my guitar into the PODxt and listening through headphones or connected to my studio mixer.. or plugging the guitar directly into the Marshall amp.

Need gear advice for cover band rig

Hi everyone, as the title says, I'm looking for advice on my current rig, I need to make some changes for playing in cover bands.

I'm occasionally doing some older rock, but mostly 80's thru current, and am looking for something with plenty of variety in the sounds I can use.

Let me add that I'm a past Pod Pro user and had a full guitar synth rig, so I feel like I know my way around hooking most equipment up.

My current rig is a 60's classic les paul with stock pickups, into a dunlop wah, boss TU-2 tuner, tubescreamer TS-9, then a Sansamp Tri-AC (an amp sim) into a Roland JC-120 Jazz chorus.

I bought the tri-ac recently to add some character to the amp I have. The JC-120 is the cleanest, most transparent amp I've ever played, period. The tri-ac really wakes it up quite a bit and it sounds pretty decent.

For those that don't know about the tri-ac, it has 3 amp sims, tweed (fender), british (marshall) and cali (mesa). I spent around $190 on it and I believe I can return it if I find something better. It allows you to save three presets, and there is a true bypass on it.

So the tri-ac sounds good, and I was planning on going out and getting a M13, as I'd read about them and they sound great. However, I'm wondering if limiting myself to the 3 presets on the triac for the amp sim and the clean on my JC-120 limits me too much doing covers. I'm also worried about having to switch effects AND the amp sim settings at the same time.

I currently have the presets on the tri-ac set to:

1. tweed, kinda SRVish, a blues amp with a little bite

2. british, kinda zeppelin, or hard rock

3. mesa, something pretty heavy, borderline metal with some crunch.

So for you folks out there doing a wide range of covers, should I just pickup the M13? Or should I return the tri-ac and get a pod x3 live? The effects on the X3 aren't as good as the M13, right?

Using LD150 as a Stage Monitor?

I have the LD400 Pro and an LD150 as well. I normally use one or the other Combo's depending on how big the Venue or Stage is.

I was wondering whether on larger stages it would be possible to use the LD400 as my main backline amp and run a lead from the Pre-amp out socket to my LD150 facing me at the front of the stage and plug it into the Instrument Socket or MP3 Socket and therefore use the LD150 purely as a monitor for the bass?

Has anyone else tried this? I think it should work but didn't want to try it without getting some advice in case I damaged any circuitry on the LD150.

I had a couple of questions in relation to the Pod X3 Live....

I am am currently using the KB 37 as my audio interface and midi controller. It's pretty good value for money and I have been quite impressed with Pod Farm. I would like to keep it, but for live I am considering purchasing X3 Live to use with my Fender Blues deluxe amp as I would like to utilize the Pod effects aswell as my Pod Farm presets . So I had a few questions I was hoping you could help me with...

I was reading on the site that you can ... "use X3s dual inputs to individually process two instruments—a microphone and a guitar, for example—at the same time". This would be very useful for me as I use vocal effects. However can I send the output of one tone to my amp (guitar) and one to the pa (vox)??

Also if I want to use the X3 in conjunction with my KB37 for home recording are there any annoying set up issues?? e.g. Pod Farm issues with using 2 Line 6 interfaces...

FBV Shortboard volume pedal adjustment using w/Spider Valve

FBV Shortboard MKII volume pedal question.

I’m using this new model pedal for my new Spider Valve 212 mp-1. I used it live for the first time this past weekend and discovered the volume pedal is way too touchy. I could like to have it be full volume pressed all the way up, and when backed off all the way only reduce the volume to 60%. How would I make this adjustment? And, can I make this adjustment?

Also, future question: I’m going to purchase the additional EX-1 expression pedal so I have a permanent wha pedal (which I’ll want configured to sound just like Man in a Box). Are these configurable – and if so – same question as above, how?

POD X3 Live through Atomic Reactor... which one?

So... I've owned my X3 Live for about a year and a half and mainly use it at home for practice with my Sennheiser HD212 headphones plugged into it.

I must say that this sounds DELICIOUS!!!

Now, my problem is that i want to play with an actual amp, particularly since i'm starting a new band and plugging in directly into our pa system (Peavey XR 8600 Powered Mixer w/ 2 Peavey PR 15 Loudspeakers) doesn't cut it. I end up with a muddy dark tone with too much bass. To solve this i am planning on buying an Atomic Reactor amp but am not sure of which one to chose. I'll admit that i have no experience with tube amps therefore i need some help deciding which model would sound good at gig volume and band practice (drums, bass, lead and backup vocalist) without it being mic'ed.

Qustions: would the 112-18 be loud enough and have enough headroom for decent cleans at gigs or should i go for the 112-50? Also, i had considered on maybe buying a 112-18 now mainly for practice and eventually buy another 112-18 in a couple of months when we start giging so that i can run them with the dual amp option on the X3 Live. Is this a better idea than buying the 112-50 considering that i'd have two amps on stereo with the 112-18's instead?

My main goal is acheiving optimum tone at practice/gig sound-levels.

Need advice for ENGL/POD X3 live set-up

Hey guys.

Looking for a bit of advice on my set-up. Pretty much, for live performances I'm looking to use an ABY pedal to switch to my amp (ENGL Invader 150) for distortion/crunch and my soon to be POD X3 for cleans into the PA. It sounds pretty straight forward but I've got a few compromises:

For distortion, I want to use a volume pedal. Would there be a way I can set the POD X3 (which in this scenario would be a floor pod) to JUST FX loop the volume pedal without having to switch channels? or would I have to perform two stomps (ABY then Pod channel change to not loop the clean effects), in which case I'll get a seperate Volume pedal and a Pod x3 Pro (so I can fit it between my engl rig, all nice and pretty).

In essence, I just want to see how diverse the Pod configurations can go.

Things to keep in mind when playing shows

There are a lot of things to keep in mind when playing a lot of shows. Let's all contribute and make a comprehensive list of advise.

Always have backup gear-guitar, amp, pedals, cables, batteries-anything that can go wrong will eventually go wrong.

Always be on time, but don't be impatient. Often, shows are delayed and often bands cancel, so either you may go on early, or you may have to wait longer than you thought.

Always be gracious to EVERYONE. You never know who will help you out.

Be ready to cut your set short, if the need arises...and eventually, it will.

Have a number of setlists ready, in case of problems with equipment, singers, guitarists, long or short time slots or all the other things I didn't think of.

Eat and sleep well. Don't party to excess. Try to play sober-it really, really helps. NO ONE PLAYS AS WELL BUZZED AS SOBER. I don't care what people say.

Get into it! People can tell if you are just 'phoning it in'.

Alright, let's hear from everyone else.

Pod xt3 Live Question

Does anyone know if it is possible to assign the amplifier drive knob to the pedal on the x3 live?

I would love to be able to gradually build up the gain that way on stage, using the compressor to somewhat squash the overall dynamic range.

I'm in a four person band (Grunge genre) playing lead guitar and I'm using a Spider III 120 watt amp. My guitar is a Paul Reed Smith Santana SE with Dimarzio humbuckers (Fred: Bridge. PAF Pro: Neck). The singer plays rhythm guitar. We have a show coming up October 11 and I want to get prepared. I have a problem when I shred solos. When I play a solo, it can barely be heard during practice. At one point I saved two presets with the same distortion settings but with two volume settings. First channel is at volume 7 and the second channel (solo channel) is set at 10. However, when I used these settings my solos are still not that noticeable. Should I be screwing with the volume channels in some way or is there another way to fix this problem?

A band I play with did a warm up for Joe Diffie at a county fair this past Saturday. I brought my trusty AX2 212 and Variax 600 to the show and that was it. On the side of the stage where I set up was the Joe's guitar player's rig... he had a Strat and a bender (McVay I think) Tele and I couldn't see an amp anywhere on stage. I then noticed his pedal board case... an X3 Live! Didn't get to stick around and check it out, but I'm told it was great.

Not sure if this should be posted here... I'm sure the moderators will move or delete as they see fit.

Spider Valve 212 solo boost via XLR out

Does anyone know if you use the XLR out directly to your mixing board (instead of micing your cabinet) if when you hit another patch that you've eq'd slightly different and saved at a slightly higher volume, will the higher volume... come through the xlr out to the mixing board?

(I've only owned this for 1 day and the first time I'll have a chance to try this in a PA will be live next weekend)

My name is Vahe and this is my first post... I am really digging the pod x3. I have a nice amp right now but i was thinking about running the pod x3 live through my vht's effects loop for the pods modulation and delays and the pods filters and dynamics through the front end of my amp. I would be a 6 cable run versus a 4 cable run.

Using a normal desktop pod x3 with an atomic amp.

The atomic amp is designed to work with amp modelers and it supposed to sounds pretty nice. I just don't know how it is going to compare to my vht sigx with the podx3 live.

Pod x3 live pros.

I get to use my amp with along with assigned loops effects the x3 live allows.

Cons

6 cable runs and a power extension. having an amp head and cabinet... A little more of a set up.

Pod X3 with Atomic 2x12 amp.

Pros

I use this compact set up with a line 6 short board and its all in one box with one cable that comes to me for the short board.

Cons

I don't get to use my real amp live and don't know if the pod x3 and atomic is going to be up to par with the vht

Anyone using any of these configurations?

Honestly, I could hardly be more dissappointed with it.

When it's been working it's been alright - good even, sometimes. The sounds are good.

However, when it's not working, it's bad... and that just wont do if you're on the road much. I play every weekend, and was sold this on the basis it was a piece of pro kit. It's been in a hard case the whole time, and this is now the 3rd time in a year it's let me down - that'll be coming up to £150 a year just to keep it working.

I'm glad that some people get good use, but I feel thoroughly let down by this device.

... don't buy an X3 Live!

I'm sorry to say this, but after little over 12 months of using the X3 Live, I've felt only occassional pleasure using it... and it's now broken... again.

I was so excited by the possibilities, with a multitude of effects I could apply to both vocals and guitars - it seemed a dream come true... it's turned into a nightmare.

I was in the alps for 2 weeks earlier this year, when the mic input started to crackle, forcing me to use the aux for vocals, limiting me to one guitar (no acoustic). Fortunately, the lack of a sensible trim knob on the mic input means that you have to use a mic preamp to have any control; as such I had a preamp on hand to run into the aux in with my vocal.

The foot switches have broken, meaning I was forced to use the rotary knob to change up banks... not great mid-gig.

Now, something's happened with the power. I don't yet know what, but that'll be another £50 at least to get it fixed. That's adding another £150 per year just to keep it running. I wish someone could declare it a right off, and I could stop throwing good money after bad...

Sorry to do this Line6 - I just feel let down.

Hi there,

I'm sure someone will know the answer to this potential query I have.

I'm thinking of purchasing a Spider Valve 212, it looks the biz and have heard great things about it.

My question is can I use my XT live to control the Spider Valve?

I run a stereo set-up currently (XT live into a Marshall 2X12 and then into separate Fender 1X10)

which gives me a great expansive sound.

The Fender is a bit lacking sometimes plus I'd like to use a variety of clean/crunch/distorted sounds

for both amps simultaneously.

Would I be able to use the MIDI out on the XT live into the MIDI in on the Spider to control program changes?

Has anybody found a fix for the squeaky pedal on a POD XT live? I can't work the wah rapidly at all wihtout it soundling like a nest of baby birs on steroids, and there are some sounds I like that require moving the pedal fast. Anybody know what will fix it? Does anybody even know what causes it? HELP!

I have the Bogner Alchemist 212 ...and the boost is nothing more than a tone boost. Is there a mod that can make this a pure volume boost? Or is there a good claen boost that adds NO gain whatsoever?

I have had a Pod xt live for some time but just got an Randall MTS 100 head. I want to use the Pod xt live to automaticly change channels since both are midi this should be posssible right? Heah don't laugh to hard I'm old and never used gear in this way. Either no stomp boxes or only had afew.

I everybody, I'm a neofit of this things; I just would know hot to link my POD XT PRO with my great amp, an Orange Rockverb 100.

I would know how I could use the mod effects, as deelay, chorus ecc in parallel, making play Orange sound and by-passing the amp&cab of POD.

Orange has a "effects send return" section.

And in the I/O section of POD, what configuration I have to choose???

I got a Pod XT but thinking about a upgrade to X3-live.

I have an idea of using it as a "effect-unit" for both song and acoustic guitars live!

Plug one x3-live chanel for song (micpreamp, eq effect etc) in the aux 1, and the other dual channel of x3-live for acoustic settings into Aux 2.

Do you guys think that would work with good result?

Spider IV for monitoring and direct to PA at same time?

I've got the rather glorious X3 - however my lead guitarist is getting an XT for a very good price.

We will both go through the PA.

I read that using two Digitech GNX pedals through the same PA could cause problems - could it be the same for the Pods? If so, is there anything that can be done to avoid it?

I do have a very large active PA speaker which I could run one of us through, maybe that could be mic'd up? It's still going through the same mixer though, just mic'd instead of direct.

Any advice gratefully accepted!

just got my spider valve 112 and played 3 practices and 1 show. excellent amp i'm real happy with my choice.... @ our show after we played i put the amp in the corner by the stage and went too the bar for some drinks. came back and there was about 5 beers sitting on the top of my new amp. so any protection tips from someone is needed..i'm thinking about those gator cases but don't know if the fit is good. or maybe just a cover that line 6 makes for the amp. working dad of 2 kids so cost is an issue for me, that's why i got this amp... you get alot bang for the buck baby.

Has anyone figured out a way to use the dist channel as an ON/OFF pedal rather than boost in the stomp box mode? I would think this would be an obvious thing, but it appears that it doesnt work this way like the time effects.
