Inconsistent sound with TonePort DI-S

Sound from my guitar cuts out every few seconds and sound from the Player function in GearBox pauses every now and then.  Itunes does the same when played through the TonePort, but is okay thorugh the internal speakers.  My PC fails two compatibility checks in Line6 Monkey - the processor is not a Pentium 4 (its an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400,  4GB RAM, 64 bit Vista Home Premium) and the chipset cannot be tested (it's a Dell Studio 1537, whatever chipset that has).  After reading the discussion threads I checked control panel and under Sounds and Line 6 is listed as speakers - no way to change anything like a buffer.  In Device Manager Line6 TonePort DI-S is listed with driver 3.4.3.6 and there are no variables to adjust.  Seems something needs tweaking, but I'm out of ideas.

Re: Inconsistent sound with TonePort DI-S

the buffer you need to change is in the line6 audio/midi applet that's in control panel, not the sound applet.

there's other things you can try, like checking with your PC manufacturer for BIOS and chipset driver updates, and then follow EVERYTHING in this guide: http://line6.com/data/l/0a06007213339477ea0690cb2a/application/pdf/GearBox%203.5%20and%20later%20Windows%20XP%20&%20Vista%20Audio%20Tips%20&%20Optimizations%20(Rev%20A)%20-%20English.pdf to try to optimise your PC for audio work.

you can ignore the processor thing from gearbox, it just doesn't recognise the latest CPUs.  the fact that your chipset cannot be tested may point to a compatibility issue, so try all I've suggested and let us know what happened.

Please make sure to follow all of the tips in the optimization guide.  I strongly recommend disabling your wireless adapter on the laptop which is one of the tips in the guide.

Re: Inconsistent sound with TonePort DI-S

Hello,

+1 to Rowbi's post. Here are some other things you can try.

1. Fill out your support profile at http://line6.com/account/supportprofile/

2. Ensure that you have tested all cables to make sure that they are not defective (USB, audio, etc.)

3. Ensure that you have all cables connections set up properly

4. Adjust the Buffer Slider in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel. (Windows Users: Start/All Programs/Line6/Tools/Audio-MIDI Devices; Mac Users: System Preferences/Other/Audio-MIDI Devices)

5. Adjust Sample Rates and Bit Depths in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel and ensure that the Sample Rates and Bit Depth settings in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel also match the project settings in your DAW/recording application

6. Ensure that you have the Line 6 device set up in your operating system as the main input/output device (sound card); disable internal sound card in your operating system’s Device Manager control panel

7. Ensure that your Line 6 USB Device is not connected to a powered USB hub; direct USB ports are required and please try ALL available direct USB ports during the troubleshooting process

8. Remove all non-essential USB peripherals from the computer (not the mouse or keyboard)

9. Disable any wireless cards on computer in Device Manager

10. Set Power Schemes on computer in Control Panel (PC Only) to Always On

11. There are also several other tips and optimizations you can make on your PC. Please refer to the following document for more information:
