Hi - I bought my POD X3L about 2 years ago...
The problems is that it often sees to crash and then you hear a horrible (and load) square wave being eitted fro the outputs.
Often I have to switch it off and on a couple of times before it boots properly.
Needless to say, I'm a professional musician, and as this happens quite randomly, I'd like to have this fixed!
I'm residing now in Poland so I'm wondering if there's an easy fix to this. Also, there's the asterix problem - the X3 will just randomly go into edit mode and change the sound dependant on the chrome dials on top..
I have the latest firmware...
Anybody else had these problems?
Anybody had these problems and then fixed them?
Cheers,
Sean
Two things come to mind....
1) I know you have the latest firmware, but it sometimes helps to reflash the memory in safe mode. If you haven't done this already, power up the X3 while holding down the right navigation key. Then use Monkey to 'Flash Memory'. Make sure you back up your tone bundle before you do this.
2) There are somtimes problems with the chrome knobs (pots); they can somehow be perceived as moving by the X3 even when they're not; the slightest vibration can do this. This can trigger both the asterisk and the weird noises (because suddenly an effect/volume can seem to suddenly be dialed to nearly max). Try 'parking' the knobs - put them at the 0% or 100% position before turning the X3 on. This is apparently a kind of dead zone for the X3 and it will no longer see them as moving.
I that lockup/squeal problem with my first X3L. There were some others who reported having this problem but it was mostly on the old forum. A while back my old X3L was replaced with a new one and the new unit has only had the lockup/squeal happen once (maybe twice) since I've had it. So, I was always under the impression that it was a hardware issue but I think Line6 says it is a software issue that was address in one of the early firmware releases. Since you have updated to the latest firmware that would seem to indicate a hardware issue but I would still do like silverhead suggested and reflash it in safemode. But I would also reset everything to factory, and if the firmware update ask if you want to save your presets select "NO" and rebuild your presets from scratch in case one of your presets is corrupt.
Hello,
AS mentioned, you should certainly try to reinstall the flash memory while in safe mode.
The other issue you described could be due to a failing potentiometer on your POD which would need to be repaired by an authorized service center however, before we determine that, you should try parking your knobs at 0% and then recall your patches. It could be that your knobs are just vibrating a little causing the asterisk to appear.
If that does not work then you should contact a local distributor in your area to have the POD repaired.
Has this answer been helpful?

I've done all of those things as requested...
To no avail...
The pod is still turning itself off randomly...
I'm in Poland (the city of glogow)
Is there an authorized repair person in Wroclaw or anywhere close...
I know the distrubutor for Line6 is in Warsaw - but that a long, long way away....
Cheers,
Sean
PS This is really affecting my music creativity!
Happened to me, and others too, after a couple of years of owning the X3Live. Tryed reflashing and all the other solutions, but didn't work. I solved replacing the ON/OFF SWITCH.
ChEErZ!
That might be a good idea - My Pod gets quite a rough life...
I might have to open her up adn check what damage is done the board...
The variax input has stopped working and the headphone jack need a little wiggle to make it a stereo output!
Does this problem only happen when you use the Variax input? If it does, you might just need to replace your Variax cable. I had a similar problem where the X3L would keep restarting. I swapped the Variax cable for a spare that I had and the problem went away (always a good idea to have a spare Variax cable).
