Line 6 DL4 - Problems

Hey. I bought a Line 6 DL4 with the intent of doing something similar to this with it.

I used a Quarter Inch to 1/8th inch converter so I could hook up head phones to the Mono Left Output. All I hear is on the left side (this makes sense) and it is very quiet even with Mix capped out.I hooked it up to my surround sound and it is louder but still very quiet in relativity to how loud my stereo gets.

So I guess I have two questions. Is there anyway to increase the volume... and is there any cable that I can use that is Dual Quarter Inch Males to Mono Quarter Inch Female in the hopes that I can connect the two Left and Right Outputs into one mono cord and hook it up to headphones so I get sound in both ears?

Or is there any other way I should do this?

Re: Line 6 DL4 - Problems

yes there are such things as dual mono 1/4 to single stereo 1/8" cables, but what you need is a headphone amp to connect between the DL4 and your headphones.

the issue you're having is because the outputs are line level and should be fed into a power amp.  they're not headphone level or maybe photo level like some inputs on surround sound amps.  you need a headphone amp or another trye of amp with a headphone output.  i think you need to ensure what you're buying will suite your needs and the DL4 although it can run on its own, ideally for a good guitar tone, you need some amp tone in there, and some amplification (for live or headphone use) that's not what the DL4 is meant for, so perhaps a JM4 would be better if it has the delay effects that you need, as it has a dedicated headphone output??

Re: RE: Line 6 DL4 - Problems

Mindful23,

From my observation, the mic is going into the DL4, and the output is connected to a PA or Mixer which his headphones are connected to.  Just the pedal between the MIC and Mixer.

The DL4 is set to Loop Sampler and he creates a 2 bar loop.  During the performance, he turns the TWEAK and TWEEZ, Delay Time, and Feedback knobs to adjust the delay effect on the input signal while the loop play in the background.  He also plays with the 1/2 speed button during the slowdown.  this was all done with just the DL4 (connected to a mixer, of course).
