Re: Some Experiment using M13 as Midi foot controller

I own a Marshall JVM410H and have an M13 on the way, just ordered it lastnight.  I've been doing some reading in the manuals for the M13 and I think I have a grasp on what it can do and what features it has.  But I do have a question, hopefully someone can answer it.

What I plan on doing with this unit is use it as a MIDI foot controller so that I can call up the different channels (clean, crunch, od1, od2) on my amp, as well as use the M13 for what it was especially designed for..effects.  I plan on using the MIDI to call up my amp channels though the scenes (latch mode).  This way, when I call up for example scene 1 (amp crunch channel), in this scene I would have crunch, with delay with the tap of one switch.  Then I could go to scene 2 (amp clean channel), and in this scene have a clean tone with a chorus all with one tap of a switch, then go back to scene 1 again to get my crunch and delay back, again with one tap of a switch. So in other words, there would be no need to do any tap dancing while live on stage.  Each scene could be named as they are......1 crunch/delay or 2 clean/chorus, etc..

So this is what and how I plan on using this pedal, now back to my question, has anyone done this with any success, I hope so, because this is why I ordered it, and if so, what are the steps on setting this up so that my amp channels can be called up via MIDI (PC messages) from the M13.  I know it has been done, but just not sure how to approach it.

I am thinking that I would first of all be in a current scene.  Then I would have to select one of the 12 foot switches in that scene and basically remove that respective FX......( this is what I am unsure of ), then I would have to select the desired amp channel on my amp and press the MIDI programm button on my amp so that the 2 would synch?   Then whenever I would go back to this scene in latch mode it would call up that chammel on my amp....?

I hope this is clear, and someone can help me from this point on.  I have a show booked on Boxing day and would like to have this all sorted out for the show, or else I'll be playing with my Floor Pod Plus and using amp modeling patches through my clean channel on my amp, as I've been doing....trying to get away from this.....I'd like to use the gain on the amp instead now...i am also trying to stay away from a rack unit as well, and this is why I've chosen the M13 (built in effects and MIDI foot controller....all in one package type deal.

I guess I will be the first to answer my question.....I've just realized that what would call up my amp channel would be the actually scene and not one of the foot switches in the actual scene........anybody?

Yes switching scenes should switch your amp channel. You should be able to turn individual fx on/off within the scene without affecting the amp.

I've set my Marshall JVM410h up with the m13 as a channel controller the way you're looking to do and it works - only problem I'm finding is theres a slight delay between when I hit the pedal and when the channel actually switches, anybody else have a similar issue??

Really?  How long of a delay are we talking about?  How long are your midi cables and what amp channels are you selecting?  Have you tried selecting all the channels to see if the delay is still there?....that sucks, if we can't get rid of the delay.

Its less than half a second but it takes a bit of getting used to.  The one thing thats unavoidable is if you have lets say a clean channel with flange and you switch to a heavy channel with no effect, the flange turns off before the channel switches so its quite noticeable.  I had the same setup with my boss GT-6 and didnt have an issue like this so its a little disappointing because overall I much prefer the sound of the m13

Re: Some Experiment using M13 as Midi foot controller

I'll have to check, but maybe there is some kind of delay setting or something for the MIDI on the M13 set up.  This won't work for me if this is what it is going to do, no matter how good the effects.  What version of the firmware do you have?  I'm just thinking that maybe, with the latest upgrade, it may be too much memory for all the addtional patches and scenes they've added and it is affecting the MIDI in/out....just a thought.  When mine comes in, I'll play around with it and check what version I have on it and I'll keep you updated on any improvements, if any...or might just send it back after a quick shot at it.
