POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

Hey everyone,

I really enjoy the POD Studio - until it randomly kicks 7 into a bluescreen caused by the LIne 6 driver l6gx.sys.

Does anyone have the same problems or would anyone feel responsible to build stable drivers?

I love the POD but... I cannot risk to loose all may data everytime I plug it in.

Could anyone help or has experience with this problem?

Thank you guys!

I get bluescreens too with my podx3

Well, i'm not a developer just followed basic instructions to read the memory dump

Don't know, there is a problem with the symbols path but hopefully it gives you a hint

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

I have exactly the same problem with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and beta driver for my pod x3. During the last few days my system rebooted 4 or 5 times showing blue screen. I didn't have enough patience to read the memory dump, but the name of .sys file that caused the problem was dispayed on the bluescreen and it was definately Line6 driver...

Thanks fo rthe input guys. Are you guys doing anything in particular when the OS crashes? Any noticeable thing that may trigger the crash?

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

Well.. I have (fortunately) no bluescreens in normal operation with the POD Studio UX2.

But sometimes the device just "hangs" and repeats the last sound infinite. To get ASIO to work again I need to close the DAW and unplug and replug the USB cable of my POD Studio UX2 ..

At the time of plugin it in again I get sometimes a blue-screen in the driver. Well,,, I know that is "forcing" it.. but even then it should never ever blue-screen...

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

Unfortunately, I can't find out any regularity in these crashes, they occured rather unexpectedly to me (but I think, always in a presence of audio output and mostly in the beginning of some process): one happened when a youtube clip was playing, one more when I was running Ableton Live, etc.

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

I connected the UX2 on two laptops, a Toshiba satelite (A100, Type PSAANE) and an Acer Aspire (7520G). Both are running Windows 7 and I have installed the Beta driver on both. When I'm running Ableton Live Lite on the Toshiba NO blue screens or errors but on the Acer multiple blue screens. I can reproduce that error at anytime on the Aspire. So I installed the windows XP driver for the UX2 and since then I no longer have blue screens on the Aspire. Worked for me, hope it works for you.

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

I missed this:  so you downgraded from the Beta drivers to the old XP drivers?  I was thinking about trying that myself.

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

Yes, I rolled back to the XP drivers (on my Acer Aspire) although i'm running Windows 7. I don't blame Line 6 for the errors and blue screens (although they could develope a steady and stable Windows 7 driver for the Pod Studio UX2 . It's a combination, otherwise I can't explain why it's working on one system and crashing on another. Just give it a try.

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

I'm with you.  I will give it a try this evening and see how it goes.  I've only had one BSOD in four days, so I may not know much for a while, but it's well worth a try.

Re: POD Studio GX l6gx.sys causes bluescreen

Sorry... you give false information.

The so called blue-screen shows an error in the driver implementation of the company who made the driver!

It is indicating wrong behaviour by the driver of line6. There is nothing like "thats a problem which microsoft and the developer" shares. That is why microsoft lets the drivers SIGN!

As long as there is no signed release driver you can be save in blaming line 6 for ALL the problems! They may step back and say: We did not sell the stuff telling you it will work in Windows 7 ...

Actually the still say:

Mac®:

G4 800MHz or better

OS X 10.4.6 or better

Windows®:

Pentium® IV 1.2GHZ or better

Windows XP (SP2) or Windows XP x64, Vista 32-bit and 64-bit

BTW... there ARE working USB 2.0 Windows 7 based audio drivers from other companies! M-Audio, IK-Multimedia to name just two.. and they have SIGNED! drivers ready since Windows 7 hit the market.. even earlier.

Just face it: Line 6 does not know what to do! They have failed and I am really sick of their reactions.. I suspect that a lot of people moved away already...

It is 2010 and there are still people who can't use their gear... and not even 1 Bluescreen per year would be acceptable for me!

I am using an iMac with M-Audio and IK Multimedia gear now... works very well.. NO PROBLEMS not 1 dropout or whatever with much better latencies that windows and Line6 gear ever made possible.

If you want to invest in the future.. do it wisely...

- Hans

BTW: They bought my "acceptance" in the past by giving me software for free.. maybe you get something too.. when you ask nicely.
