POD Farm, record and playback volume control doesn't work

I'm having a problem with my new POD X3 Live. I had a POD XT Live and I loved, so I decided to buy the Line 6 top line pedalboard. But I'm desapointed.

The software works painful. First: POD Farm doesn't work. It does not recognize my X3: "Non authorized device connected...." Second: When POD X3 become a windows audio device, the master volume (for recording and playback) does not work. Just work the "Wave" channell. There are so many other things, like, in gearbox, when you move the wah pedal, it does not refresh the actual position knob in screen, when you turn up the POD and the amp, if the amp is connected and the amp volume is set a little high, you can hear a very loud peak noise that could probabily damage the speaker. And how can the Windows sound output to the amp (as podxt) and NOT to the phone out?

Please, is that an isolated problem or more people are suffering with this too?

Someone knows how to fix all of this?

I need support please

Let's take things one at a time. I think most can be resolved, but we'll see .......

Pod Farm does not work as a standalone editor with the X3. It only works as a plugin to your DAW. Try it with your recording software.

Second: When POD X3 become a windows audio device, the master volume (for recording and playback) does not work. Just work the "Wave" channell.

Try adjusting the monitor level in the Line 6 Midi - Audio devices control panel. It appears on the Inputs and Recording tab, I think.

I don't know about this one; maybe other responders can help

Yes, it can be touchy to control tones and levels when using the X3's amp/cab modeling along with an actual amp. For best results, try to make your amp as neutral as possible and let the X3 do all the tonal colouring as much as possible. Search this forum for other threads on the topic of "X3 and amp". Many users get good results from what's called a 4-cable method. Alternatively, turn OFF the X3's am/cab modelling (select no amp/cab) and see how it sounds.

And how can the Windows sound output to the amp (as podxt) and NOT to the phone out?

Set your X3 as the cound card for your computer (seehttp://line6.com/community/docs/DOC-1453 for Vista; other docs for other systems are in the same /docs location). Then connect the X3 outputs to your amp/speakers.

Please, is that an isolated problem or more people are suffering with this too?

I think there are a number of different isolated things (not necessarily problems) that can be resolved. I think it's just a learning curve. Once you get past these things I think you'll be happy with your X3.

Re: POD Farm, record and playback volume control doesn't work

You're right - the control panel only adjusts the monitor level. The record level, as well as the selections of dry/wet signal options, are controlled within your recording program. Gearbox has nothing to do with recording. Configure the audio settings in your recording software to use the X3's ASIO interface as audio input/ouput. When you arm a track for recording you will be able to select from 8 incoming signals provided by hte X3. When being used by the recording program I believe the X3's tone volume controls do affect all but the dry signals.

Re: separating amp from monitors for jam/playback: what type of X3 do you have? The input/output options are different between the X3 Bean, Live, and Pro.

I use X3 Live. I really can't put the windows sound and the combo front output (stack, power, whatever) together. I just can put they together in match direct/studio, but the guitar sounds like trash (because an amp is conected, not a PA or Earphone).

I'm still not sure what you're trying to do here. The manual describes the options for controlling the X3 Live's XLR and 1/4" ouputs (Section 6). You can direct these to different systems/speakers if you wish. As you say, the guitar doesn't sound very good through another amp - so why not just leave the other amp out of the picture? Use whichever outputs you like to the desired monitors/PA. You'll hear both the guitar and the playback through the same outputs and you can balance the monitor levels using the control panel slider.

And about the recording software, as you said, I just can control these parameters through it. Which one I could use (because I did not need this stuff on XT and dont have knowledge).

I know many users in this forum use Ableton Live, or Riffworks. A quick google search should help you locate either. Of course there are many options; some free/shareware, some low cost and some quite expensive. Depends what you want.

Re: POD Farm, record and playback volume control doesn't work

Thanks for the points (not that they really mean much - just shows that the help is appreciated)! And don't hesitate to post other questions. The X3 is a compicated little beast and the learning curve can be steep. But I hope you end up enjoying it as much as I do.
