Hi,
I just recently installed Windows 7 64bit operating system, this is final retail version.
I have POD XT live and Pod farm, etc and I installed the POD XT live drivers and Line 6 Monkey. However, whenever I play back an audio, it has a crackling sound.
I don't know why this is happening. I also browsed the forum and tried some of the suggested work arounds but this issue isn't resolved.
Can you please tell me what I should do to resolve this crackling sound?
Also the LIne 6 Monkey doesn't show anything listed all under Updates. I installed the Line 6 Monkey 64bit version that is supposed to be compatible for Vista 64bit but that
didn't make any difference and the crackling sound is still there.
Thank you for your help.

The answer is simple. Use an operating system that the software supports. I just checked the system requirements for the Line 6 Software and it doesn't list Windoze 7 as a supported OS.
If Vista compatibility mode doesn't work then there must be something wrong with Vista compatibility in the OS because the software does actually work using Vista.
Cheers,
Crusty
Or just go back to 1.26 until Line 6 officially supports Windows 7. It's working fine for me on Windows 7 32 bit. I was just checking back to see if Windows 7 was officially supported yet, but don't see it if it is.

I hadn't thought about 64-bit, but that's going to be a problem for me too. I'm planning on buying a new machine when Windows 7 is officially available, but now I need to think about what to do until Line 6 supports 64-bit. I've been running Windows 7 on all of my machines and I love it, but they have all been 32 bit so far. Windows 7 isn't another Vista, or XP for that matter.
The only thing to go around the Line 6 Windows 7 support problem is; to run Windows 7 in XP mode.
This is how it works: (only for Windows 7 professional/Enterprise/Ultimate) Not for Basic or HomePremium
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx and read install instructions. You need two applications to be installed on your computer. Windows XP mode application and Virtual PC.
First install Windows XP mode, then Virtual PC. After installation first run Windows XP mode, and a virtual PC will be created automatically.
Now, go to the Line6 download page and download and install WinXP software for your PODXT. (driver, monkey and edit) Install drivers before connecting the PODXT device. You may also work with the Windows 7 driver for the PODXT, but I am not sure if it works. I choose to install the WinXP version seperately.
Once installed, connect the PODXT device and check the top of the screen. There is a menu called "USB" click on unknown device and connect.
You might run into troubles with the Java application, as there is probably non or the version that comes with the Line6 edit does not install properly.
To solve this download Java 1.5.0. http://download.oldapps.com/Java/sun%20java%20version%205.0.exe (note that this is a direct link to the download)
Now start monkey or edit, and you will see all functions are working. To run the app directly in a (semi) Windows 7 environment. Go to the start menu, check under Virtual PC then Windows mode and look for the line 6 program. Copy this to your desktop as a shortcut. You do not need to start Windows XP mode anymore when you double click this short cut.
Hope this will help you as long as the Line 6 edit and monkey is not fully compatible with Windows 7.
Note that running Virtual PC is a bit CPU power consuming, so best is to keep the environment clean from any non critical software. I only installed Java and Microsoft Essential virusscanner, that's all and choose windows standard interface to save processing power..
G'day all,
I'm running Windows 7 RTM x64 Ultimate Edition with a Line 6 pod X3L. The system is a Core i7, 6GB, 2xBarracuda 1TB (data), 1xCaviar Black 1TB (system), no other soundcards attached (for testing purposes), POD X3L connected directly to Fostex PM series powered monitors via direct/studio XLR outputs (a bit quiet compared to a guitar amp stack - I have to set the X3L master volume to maximum, but the tone is fine).
So far (as of 12/11/09), I have found that:
- Line 6 monkey seems to works ok (in compatibility mode). It has recognised the registered POD X3L device, communicated with Line 6 servers, and I have successfully upgraded the unit's flash memory.
- Gearbox (v3.70) works as a stand alone program to send/receive tones from the device and edit/save patches etc. I have been able to download patches from customtone and save them to the X3L using Gearbox. I'm also able to create my own patches in Gearbox and save the entire bundle to HDD. However, I have not been able to get Gearbox to work as a VST plugin within Reaper (v3.14 x64) (note - Reaper is capable of bridging x86 to x64). The Gearbox GUI opens as a VST window but says that it is not authorised and instructs me to click on a Line 6 Monkey button (bottom-right corner) to authorize. But clicking on this button brings up an error message saying that Line 6 monkey is not installed; then Reaper crashes. I'll try it again tonight with a 32-bit version of Reaper to see if that makes any difference.
- Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition (demo version) seems ok - I haven't used it much so can't say if all features work, But I was able to record a few cool riffs with drums etc and line them up into a basic song.
- POD farm (v1.11) doesn't seem to work. I have tried running in Vista and XP compatibility mode. When it loads, it says that it cannot detect a device attached, then presents a list of devices to choose from - however the POD X3L is not in this list. The program still opens, and I can edit the signal path and look at all the pretty pictures of amps and pedals, but at the bottom it says that there is no authorised device attached (or something like that). Hopefully this will be fixed with Line 6's Windows 7 x64 updates.
I have installed a virtual machine running Windows XP, initially to get my soundcards (Presonus Firebox, M-Audio 410) working with Nuendo v4 . However, running the DAW inside a virtual machine, defeats the whole point of upgrading to a powerful new computer. So instead, I bought the Line 6 X3L to use as my soundcard (with the benefit of some cool extra tones and utility for gigging), and switched to Reaper for my DAW. As Slashhead described above, the virtual XP mode will work for the Line 6 devices, but if you want to use them with your full DAW setup then you are compromising your PC's processing power and memory.
Hopefully when Line 6 release their Windows 7 drivers all of these issues will be fixed. Meanwhile, I can still record the Line 6 tones into Reaper, I just can't use the Line 6 VST plugins (i.e. for re-amping dry signals). If anyone has found a way to do this, without using the virtual XP workaround, please let us know.
Enjoying the new toy so far :-) Thanks Line 6!!
Cheerio
Dave
