This is a new thread specifically for Modern metal, hard rock and punk rock.
Feel free to share the settings you use, and tips on how to get that killer tone.
P.S. no band slagging - everyone is free to leave their settings as long as it comes under the headings. I may make other posts for other types of music when I get more time.
Also, if needed, requests can be entered for anyone who is really struggling for their favourite artists sound.
Any number of settings are allowed ![]()
So to kick things off, here is an example of the best way to share your settings ![]()
Artist Tone: Avenged sevenfold
(optional, album, song, guitarist)
Amp model: RED Insane (modelled after old style unholly confessions sound)
Drive: 7
Bass: 7
Mid: 8
Treble: 7
Channel volume: 6 (change to preference)
Chorus flange: none
Phaser: none
Tremolo: none
Delay: none
Tape Echo: none
Sweep echo: none
Reverb: none (gives a cold, hard feel to the sound)
Noise Gate: on
shortboard/FVB express optionals
Shortboard used:
Stomp: off
FX loop on
Wah: off
As close to the example as possible is much appreciated, however, if only some information is relevant, then skip what is not needed.
Hope this thread becomes useful to many people ![]()
Note: all tones submitted to thread are subject to individuals guitars, so some may need minor tweeking. ![]()

Artist Tone: Green Day
(Billie Joe Armstrong)
Amp model: RED Metal
Drive: 7
Bass: 8
Mid: 4

note: more of a passive pickup tone, works better with medium output, however, active pickups will just make the tone seem a bit tichter, and will still be deasantly heavy, while remaining on the punky side.
Artist Tone: Blink 182
(All the small things, Dammit)
Amp model: RED Metal
Drive: 9
Bass: 4 or 5
Mid: 8
Treble: 9
Channel volume: 6 (change to preference)
Chorus flange: none
Phaser: none
Tremolo: none
Delay: none
Tape Echo: none
Sweep echo: none
Reverb: 1 or 2
Noise Gate: on
shortboard/FVB express optionals
Shortboard used:
Stomp: off
FX loop on
Wah: off
This tone works fairly well with most guitars and pickups, however it excells at creating a punky light tone if active pickups are in the guitar. With this tone, it gets pretty close to the old tom delonge SD Invader live sound that can be heard some of the live videos on youtube, (note one particular video of dammit where Tom breaks a string lol)
Artist Tone: Megadeth
(Dave Mustaine)
Amp model: GREEN Crunch
Drive: 9 or 10 (gain quite high because of amp model)
Bass: 8
Mid: 5
Treble: 8
Channel volume: 6 (change to preference)
Chorus flange: none
Phaser: none
Tremolo: none
Delay: none
Tape Echo: none
Sweep echo: none
Reverb: none
Noise Gate: on
shortboard/FVB express optionals
Shortboard used:
Stomp: on
FX loop on
Wah: off
When you first hear the tone, it may sound very light, however you can do 2 things:
1. turn the red metal model on to get a wee bit more gain from it (however, it might be too much for the sound its going for)
2. add extra gain with the volume - muh like a 'proper' amp, it will distort (only slightly) and give a little gain boost
however, on my setup, these settings give a very brittish Marshall like sound from it, not too dirty, not to clean - so it deffinately isnt clean, but all the notes are clear, just enough and no more - and its modelled after the sound that Dave himself loves most, that good old Brittish metal from back in the day!!!
so try it out for a while, and if its still not quite right, edit from there.
If it can be made closer to the crunchy marshall sound, then post it here to share with the rest of the L6 community ![]()

Should gove a nice heavy metal distortion, suitable for their old and newer stuff.
On the 7 string stuff, back off a little on the gain to bring out the notes a bit clearer ![]()
