Model Packs increase the number of Amp or FX Models of a GuitarPort, TonePort, PODxt, PODxt Live or PODxt Pro, for a wider variety of tone possibilities. When a particular tone in the library relies on a Model available in one of these packs, you'll see symbol(s) to indicate which Packs: MS (Metal Shop), CC (Classics Collection), FX (FX Junkie), and PP (Power Pack).

The models within the FX Junkie Model Pack are already included in PODxt Live, and offered for purchase to add-on to GuitarPort, TonePort, PODxt and PODxt Pro.

Variax is the uniquely flexibile guitar from Line 6. Our Vetta II amplifier includes a digital connection for the Variax that lets you store settings for both your amp and your guitar in the Vetta II so that when you call up a Vetta Channel Memory your amp and guitar can change sounds together. Vetta II Tones marked with this guitar symbol include this Variax data.

For each tone in the library, you'll see an icon for either a single coil or humbucker pickup. This tells you whether the tone is best for use with a single coil pickup or a humbucker, so you can select the appropriate pickup on your guitar when using this tone.

Attention POD 2.0, Flextone and HD147 owners... Your hardware doesn't do Stomp effects, so you'll hear something different than what was intended. Try increasing the Drive or choose a higher gain Amp Model to get the right sound. The other aspects of the sound should translate as expected, so you'll at least get a great starting place for tweaking.

This is the tone for the song Serve the Servants by Nirvana. It should be close to the tone for other songs off the In Utero album. The patch is a dual signal patch. The first signal path is through a Treadplate (MesaBoogie) with the gain turned all the way up, panned 100% to the left. The second signal path is through the FX Loop (I use a Boss DS-1 here to get authentic Nirvana tone) and then through a Blackface amplifier (Fender Twin Reverb '65). I placed a second noise gate behind the Fender Twin, since the Boss DS-1 introduces a lot of unnecessary noise to the signal path. This second path is panned 100% to the right. Both paths are combined in the mixer, then sent through a tube compressor for sustain, then through a studio EQ with what I think are typical alt rock EQ values, and finally sent through a room reverb, to capture the ambiance that Albini used when recording In Utero. NOTE: If you have a BOSS DS-1, a BOSS DS-2, a Sans Amp Classic, a ProCo Rat, a Digitech Distortion Factory, or your favorite distortion pedal for doing Nirvana, use them where I have the FX Loop placed. NOTE 2: If you don't own a distortion pedal, or prefer to use the FXs from the Pod hd500x rather than an external pedal, replace the FX Loop with the "Classic Distortion" effect from the Pod HD500x. This is based on the ProCo Rat and is the closest distortion the Pod provides to that used by Cobain. NOTE 3: This patch sounds very authentic with my guitar, a Variax Standard. I created a guitar model that uses the body of a stratocaster but uses tele pickups. I moved the bridge pickup down so it's right above the bridge. If you don't have a Variax, or the patch doesn't sound quite authentic, try playing around with the Studio EQ, or try adjusting the signal path volumes at the mixer.
