Iron Man on Beginner Guitars (Spider IV 30)

Iron Man -Black Sabbath

The Iron Man settings that came with my Spider IV 30 would sound like Iommi only if you had Iommi or double humbucker pickups. With my cheap Ibanez I was able to come up with a setting that sounds alot like Iron Man.

The Settings

Instead of Crunch Green, set your model to Metal Red.

Set your drive to about 48%-52%.

Set your bass to about 25%.

Set your mid to roughly 65%-75%.

Set your treble to 75%-70%.

Set your channel volume to 65%.

For more Iommi rock tone, you may want to turn your Chorus Flange on just slightly, to add that rock feel.

This document was generated from the following thread: Iron Man on Beginner Guitars (Spider IV 30)

Just bought an Epi Les Paul Std with stock HBs on it. Can get a good rich clean sound and a heavy distortion but cant seem to get that growl that a Les Paul should give no matter how I tweak the dials (Oasis/Brian May sound) Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Eric Johnson's "Cliffs of Dover" Tone on the Spider III

I've sat in my room many hours with my amp cranked up to acheive this tone. It was almost impossible to nail, but this is pretty close. Note that for this tone to sound almost perfect, your strings need to be fairly new, and perfectly in tune, or else you'll get an undesired grainy sound.

Turn your amp to the Crunch setting to imitate the 69 fender amps, which Eric often uses. Turn the drive all the way up, and experiment by barely turning it down until it sounds correct on your amp.

Treble - 0. This is one of the most suprising things, because most people think he has high treble, but really, his lows and mids create his sound.

Mid - 9:00 O'clock - 9:10 position.

Low - 10 O'clock - 10:10 position.

Next turn your Tape Echo to the Twelve o-clock position, which should be Right between the E in tape, and the E in Echo, then take it and turn it just a hair more. Set the echo to around 190 BPM.

Turn your guitars tone down to 6 - 7, and use the treble pickup. Turn todn your guitar volume to about 7, and turn up your amp. I'm using an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra 2, and this tone sounds amazing.

Note that you will have to play around with your settings a bit, but don't move any knob more than a hair or you'll kill the sound. EJ's tone is very precise and very unstable on the Spider III, so the smallest adjustments can ruin the sound.

Different way to achive blues tone with Spider III

I don't know if this is been tried before but here's something I fell across trying to find a blues tone. Most of the different amp settings tends to over do it sometimes and just can't seem to get close to what I was after. Select the metal green channel and turn the drive all the way down. Turn the channel volume all the way up. The bass & treble controls can be set to your like including a bit of reverb. The middle control is totally diiferent here on this channel as it acts more like a voicing control then just moving the mids. You'll find the more you rotate the knob to the right the more bassier the amp gets. Turning it to the left the more treblely it gets. Fiddle with this control till you find your sweet spot. You'll find this setup more warmer then the other channels with just a hint of dirt depending on the guitar & pickups being used. You might have to just slight nudge the drive control if the dirt isn't present. But make sure you keep it down as low as possible This to me seems more like using a Class A style amp just to the point of clipping. Try it and see if it works for you.

                                                                                BluesBrother
