I didnt see the most important word in any of the posts so I'll try and simplify the practical use of this update that matters most.

TIGHT

Pods are notorious, for those with decent ears, to be extremely loose. The comments I hear most are a Cartoonish Tube sound. I dont agree with this but it gives an idea of the problem. It seems Line6 is more in love the spongy mushy sound of tubes than anything else and this causes the dreaded mushy Low E string. I love some of this but its overdone.

So what do people do? They put a dist/overdrive pedal in front that tightens up the E but unfortunately over compresses the midrange into a wah pedal.

When you have control over sag, MV, and bias you can lower their values and Tighten up your sound.

Axefx has exactly the opposite problem. Its cold and clinical--almost like there' s a pedal in front of every amp. Many people have said this. No tube sponge sound on the low E of any amp I have heard by them(by default). No tube fatness. The answer is somewhere in the middle. The Pod desperately needed these tools. The question is going to be--are they going to increase other problems Pods have like nasty overtones--especially around 750hz, which can easily be seen on any analyzer.

BTW..I did hear Punch..and that begins to explain it...and Splatty which explains its opposite

Oh man that is just sooo me. I actually posted the same response(from Billy Madison) on this very forum, perhaps, 6 years ago. Now that is some funny stuff.

Kudos to the other writer as well. When my juices are flowing just right, I marvel at my Bachelors level writing skills. Many times I would read my post over and over just to get a glimpse of my own magnificence. I've been know to write an awesome 3rd grade reading level tirade as well. But seriously, I actually loved the post -even if I didn't read the previous posts to see exactly what he was referring to. Although it appears the work of someone pretending on many levels.

Its very thin and middy. Nice playing..I play those songs myself.

If you have Window media player(just to hear what I mean).....

tap in the settings in the picture and it will beef up and sound more like a recto cab--then apply that to the Pod if you like it. Im using Pro studio monitors that are very balanced BTW.

Hey

Knowing this forum, and being a very vocal member since it started, I absolutely expected some resistance from people who post hear every day. Its human nature to want what YOU want and downplay other suggestions because you want your concerns dealt with first. I take no offence, with the exception of whoever this Mr Arkadin is. Reading that useless attack is why I dont contribute much anymore and is why I certainly wont even visit this thread again. Its Thanksgiving for cryin out loud...haha...like I need some hack, foaming at the mouth, dishing out his daily plate of hate for no reason whatsoever.

Although I will post a clip, this week, of a custom Plexi made from 3 different amp models just to demonstrate an amp tweaked to my playing style.

Anyway, This thread is not about what you dont want-- because adding something that you dont want makes absolutely no difference to you. This isnt a thread about taking away anything--so all long counterpoints serve no purpose.. These tools do exist and are how the amps are created. Of course, a simplified dial can be created. So I ask for a +1 from people who want it and the suggestion box because quite frankly, arguing against customizing the amps just seems like arguing just for sake of disagreeing.

Look..its freakin simple..this is Virtual Modeling

We are not restricted by the real world device. Shouldn't you be able to virtually play around with internals of the amp? Isn't that the beauty of the virtual world?

Why should people be restricted to Line6's idea of the amp? How many people have complained about the Poweramps global settings-- that can mush out the lowend so much on a certain sound that your forced to use the preamp model only? Isn't it an oxymoron to be restricted on a virtual model when you can actually turn the dial on the master volume of the real amp to suit your idea of sag and headroom?

Every other modeler has this and the industry leader doesn't? Many people use modeling for the very reason that you can mod the amp. You can swap out Tonestacks, change the voicing of the amp, tighten up the lowend. How many people have already complained in forums all over the Net that they don't like the Fireball model or the Bogner? When you can customize the amp-- you will hear none of those complaints as you can always tailor the amp to what you like in regards to distortion flavor, tightness, sag, and voicing.

These tools are already in existence as its what every modeling company already uses to create the parameters of the amp model in the first place. After all these years, Line6 customers should have the tools to shape the amp models as THEY see fit and not be stuck with the interpretation that the Line6 listening test experts(used to finalize the models sound) thought was the best.

No matter how good Line6 engineers are there IS an undeniable flavor to their choices of sounds. No one is immune to personal preference. We have their preference---now we want ours included a well. For people who don't care--that's fine..you already have what you want. But after all these years(I've been using their gear from the very beginning) I have learned that people who use modeling are a peculiar bunch, in which their experience with amp sound goes beyond just playing into the realm of shaping their tone precisely to their playing style.

Having sufficient choices to tailor something you don't quite like into something you love is one of the reasons why Line6's competition has very few complaints. Your not stuck....you always have options.

How can anyone answer anything without you posting a clip describing what your hearing? This is best done using 2 different guitars so they know your pickups arnt reveaing something most people dont hear with their guitars. Post a direct patch and the identical patch with the outputs. The best thing to do to reveal aliasing or artifacts is to hold a chord high up on the neck...like a D or E on the A string.

In Mixing....whenever someone describes something as thin and distant it is almost always Phase Cancelation. I would suggest always using a single mono source--as is done on almost every guitar recording we have ever heard--no chance of phasing that way.

If any of the clean EQ's, ones without soft clipping etc, have a main gain knob--that would be the way to go.
