Question about MIDI usage of X3L

I am exploring the idea of ocassionally using my X3L MIDI control functions on my DAW, Ableton. These fucntions would be Play, Start, Record, Undo, etc. I am already gathering info on how to config my DAW.

Once I have it all hooked up w MIDI cables, is it possible to somehow tell the X3L to not change anything on a patch while I stump on the buttons I have assigned also as MIDI controls?

Example, if I set up the MOD button to be Play on my DAW, can I hit that button without turning MOD on or off on the actual patch that I may be using off the X3L?

That way, I could use the X3L's buttons for MIDI controlling and not affect the patches.

computer recording connections question

I record using Mac laptop+ Ableton DAW + Fireface 800 interface which has mutiple ins and outs, including balanced inputs, XLR inputs and a HIgh Z input.

So, from my POD X3L to my Fireface interface, which connection? 1/4? XLR?

If I use the 1/4, should I connect to the High Z input of my interface?

My initial approach would be to limit myself to the 4 amps built into the DT50.

thank you! Im open to buying the HD as long as I have the option to use it whichever way I want amps or no amps, without complication.

But I have heard the HD is not true bypass?

Wondering, how would I switch between clean and dirty of any of the amp configs on the DT50, when using DT50 amps?

Initially, I would completely ignore them.
