I also do not think it is a tube issue because when the guitar is plugged into the amp by itself there is no problem. The static only occurs for about 10 seconds when I flick the standby switch off and the hd500 is connected to the amp.

HD500 Problem

Hi Everyone,

I am experiencing a noise issue with my HD500, DT50, Avatar Speaker Cab rig.

Here is the issue I have been having:

When I am plugged straight into the dt50 without the hd500 there is no problems at all. Here is my starting procedure: I first turn on my dt50 and let the amp warm up while I have the standby switch engaged. After a 5 min warmup, I flick the standby off and the amp starts up with no problem. The dt50 is silent until I start playing the guitar.

However, if I let the amp warm up for 5 min with the standby switch engaged AND I have the hd500 turned on, I experience a problem. When I flick the standby switch off, I hear gradual swelling of static noise coming through speaker. This swell of static noise lasts for about 10 seconds slowly increasing in volume then fades away and the amp works fine and plays smoothly without that static noise coming back.

Any ideas why this static noise is happening and if it can be eliminated and/or if it is causing any harm to my dt50 head or speaker cab or hd500.

I am using a brand new quality mogamy guitar cable and mogamy aes/ebu in the L6 link jack to connect to the hd500.

-Thanks for your advice!

I also bought an Avatar 2x12 Vintage Cab loaded with one Classic Lead 80 and one Vintage 30 speaker in 8 ohms. The cab has black tolex, white piping, and black/silver grill cloth. I am hoping this setup with the HD500 will be the end all, be all rig.
Combo or Head

I just bought a DT50 Combo and I am wondering if I should havegotten something else. Please comment on my thoughts written below

Here are the thoughts revolving around in my head:

1,. Should have I gotten the DT50 head and cab instead because people on the forum say its actually more convenient to carry this two peice set as opposed to a heavy combo.

2. I believe the 4x12 is very big for my purposes (both in terms of sound and physical dimensions - to big for condo or trunk of car), however I would be interested in a 2x12 cab. I think it would be physically lighter and smaller and not as loud (Am I right?). I am guessing it would have similar characterestics as the 212 combo that I just bought, but it would be more convenient to carry it around for it would be in two pieces. However, would the tones and overall sound output be much different?

3. I am thinking that the head/cab option may be better also because majority of my playnig is done sitting down, so I figure (even with a 2x12 cab, and especially with a 4x12 cab) the amp knobs would be propped up higher and be in a more convenient height to play with as opposed to having to hunch over to get at the knobs of the combo option.

4. Would my dt50 combo sound like a dt50 head/cab if I attached a cab to the combo?

5. I am thinking that there are more benefits to having the cleaner head room provided by Dt50 is better than the DT25 because I will be using the HD500 to get all of my dirty distorted sounds...Is this a flawed logic?

Thanks Everyone
