I also see that the Program Change message is sent along with the Bank Change. I don;t recall that causing any problems for me when using HD500 to send Bank Changes to another device, but I am not sure why it needs to do that.

Regarding this point:
Page B-3 says "*Note that the A, B, C & D footswitches will only transmit MIDI Program Change messages when their Setup option is set to the ABCD “Presets Mode”" Fortunately that's not correct, the device sends program changes in both footswitch modes.

I think what the manual means here is that, when the Presets Mode is set to ABCD, that these 4 switches do not send out the MIDI data that you configured in the MIDI Assign screen. When in ABCD mode, they send the full Program Change data (including the Bank & CC data) for the specifc preset that you are recalling on the HD500 device, regardless what you may have set for that Footswitch in the MIDI Assign screen. The wording is kinda confusing though.

I think you're right about changing presets vs. MIDI Assigns, and it makes sense.

My device only sends Bank Select when you select a new set list. Patch changes only send a Program Change.

If I recall correctly, I think it used to offer different features for the Toe Switch, so that might have been true in earlier flash versions. I know that one of the recent flash versions just made the Toe Switch the same as any other footswitches, as far as the options offered for MIDI Assign.

You could be right, it might be intentional. If so, they should fix the manual. Otherwise, they should fix the code.

I wish that it always sent Bank Selects, because then it would integrate perfectly with the Program Change map on my GR-55. I was going to try a work around with a bank select MIDI assign, but the mysterious program change prevents that from working. I can't win!

I guess I'll have to settle for having two awesome devices that are less than perfectly integrated. The glass is 3/4 full.

Hello,

My HD500 is running the latest firmware, and I'm trying to use it to send bank change information to another device. Following the instructions on page B-7 of the manual, I assigned a bank change to FS1.

The unit sends the bank change, but it also sends a program change:

B0 00 00 1 --- CC: Bank MSB

B0 20 01 1 --- CC: Bank LSB

C0 01 -- 1 --- PC: Brite Acc. Piano

This doesn't seem right, is it the intended behavior?

Also, it would be nice if the HD500 sent bank change messages for every patch change(Page B-3). Some devices require bank change messages, and it is harmless for those that don't.

I think what you're saying is that it's a bug in the HD500 firmware.

FS 1-8 can send a CC every time you press the switch, with the value toggling between 0 and 127.

The manual says I should be able to toggle two different CC with the toe switch. Have you ever tried that?

It doesn't work, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or if it is a bug.

It doesn't work very well with 1.31 firmware either. I've got FS5 toggling CC#25, MIDI-OX shows this (the first column is a timestamp):

006257B8 2 -- B0 19 00 1 --- Control Change

00625B0C 2 -- B0 19 7F 1 --- Control Change

Just what I'd expect.

The toe switch is set up to toggle controllers 25 & 26, here's what MIDI-OX sees:

00627249 2 -- B0 1A 00 1 --- Control Change

00627687 2 -- B0 19 00 1 --- Control Change

00627AAD 2 -- B0 1A 00 1 --- Control Change

00627E84 2 -- B0 19 00 1 --- Control Change

It sends the programmed value each time, it doesn't toggle.

The really odd thing is that I had it working correctly for about ten minutes, but now it just doesn't want to behave.

Also, bugs in HD500 edit prevent changing these settings from the PC, you have to use the hardware UI.

From the latest HD500 Advance Guide:

The EXP TOE SWITCH can be assigned to send two separate MIDI CC Toggle commands, which allows it to alternately toggle between two functions on your target device.

The 1.40 firmware apparently doesn't support this. Is that intentional?

I bought my HD500 at Guitar Center in August. It had been returned by another customer, but that's ok, I love it.

The only problem is that I didn't get the spiffy line 6 decal that usually ships with your products. Can you mail me one?
