A lot of us use the POD as an amp stand in. I put my pedals in front of the POD, just as you would with an amp. So the signal chain is guitar-wah/volume-delay pedal-distortion-POD.

THere is an app called MIDI Designer, which allows you to build an interface and communicate with MIDI devices like PODs. I haven't used it personally (the free version doesn't support as many controls as you need for a POD, and the Pro version seemed expensive). check out this link: http://mididesigner.com/qa/110/call-for-layouts-line6-pod-controller

I just uploaded my favorite dual tones to CustomTone. Two different themes here.

Crunch + Clean

Combining two amps, one higher gain, one less gain. I pan these hard left and right, and add a short delay to one side to give a really nice stereo separation. Works well in a live setting if you can get two channels on the mixer (tell the sound dude, c'mon, you give the keyboardist two channels!).

Two Mics

As noted in an earlier post, a studio engineer I ran into told me one of his "tricks" for mic'ing a guitar amp is to put two mics on the same amp: one on-axis, one off-axis, and pan both mic's to the center. That's not too hard to set up in a studio, a little more challenging in a live setting, but with a POD, it's a piece of cake. So what I did is took some of my favorite amp models, and create a dual tone that does just that. Each of these tones have two amps, set up the same way, except one is mic'd on-axis, one is mic'd off axis.

Dual tone Fender Twin Reverb + Soldano SLO 100. This is a really nice combination, in stereo. The Twin is panned hard left, the SLO 100 is panned hard right. The SLO 100 is using a very short (24ms) delay 100% wet, which means the signal is delayed getting to the amp. This gives fantastic sounding stereo separation.

Great use for dual tone: duplicate the amp and settings, pan both to the center, but mic one amp on-axis, one amp off-axis.
