i too have had issues with this and posted some sound samples earlier this year. long story but the short version was line 6 took back my JTV69 and adjusted the neck/action, and "tightened up some components in the bridge" and intonated it and said it was fixed. it was better, but not fixed and they would not comment on what parts in the bridge were tightened. the overtones/organ sounds are still there on the 12 string models. sad as i love those otherwise!

FYI: it is very important to be in tune and properly intonated to minimize the overtones on the 12 string models.

i'm running v1.81 now and will try 1.82 to see if that helps. good luck to us all!

i have noticed that using the Line6 VDI cable results in some problems when switching between patches. if, for instance, i'm in Workbench, tweaking some variax guitars and i then upload them to the JTV69, if i switch around my pod hd 500 patches i get problems. what seems to be happening to me is that JTV-->VDI-->HD500 results in what almost sounds like patches on the HD500 not completely switching from one to the other and for example, going from a crunch type patch to a lead type patch, the lead is much more gainey than it normally is. if i power off the HD500 and back on, the patch is fine. if i switch patches using a 1/4" cable from the JTV to HD500, all is well. also, i seem to frequently lose the connection to the JTV and HD500 when using the VDI cable. this cable was bought new from line6 a few months ago, has minimal use on it and has never been gigged (always taken care of properly).

anyone with any ideas on this?

Hi. after having the guitar back for awhile and playing it, the problem is better but not entirely sorted out. I guess the adjustments made by line6 were the best that can be done. the 12 string problem isn't as prevalent especially in a band setting but is still noticeable in a solo setting. not sure that i'd want to gig these 12 string patches and that's a shame as it was one of the big draws for me to this JTV.

correct settings that worked for me are input 1: guitar + Variax ch.1 and input 2: mic

Hi Hugo,

I just updated to the latest flash in the tyler. i've been playing for a few minutes and I think that the Tyler has, indeed, been improved in it's tracking with the VDI cable and the newest firmware update. Thanks for that!

The synthy tone is still present to some degree and it is evident on the E-A-D-G strings with the most audible on the D-G strings, open strings and fretted notes all have the overtones. The overtone (synth-y) is more noticeable on the factory settings than the ones I have gone in and decreased the volume of the de-tuned sounds in Workbench. I am wondering if this is a software artifact vs. a hardware defect??

is there any authorized service dealer in my area (zip 23518 in Va.) that could check it out? I'd hate to part with my Tyler for a long time (shipping back to Line6 in Cali) unless I/We were really certain it was a hardware issue. Yes, I love the guitar that much! It is really a wonderful piece of gear and I hate to put it down!

The synthy overtones are present when using any 12 string model in the variax, with either the line6 VDI cable or any 1/4" guitar cable I've tried. It does not seem to be present is any other model.

hi david: at the time of the recording, the inputs were Variax CH1 and input 2 = guitar

currently, i run input 1 = guitar + variax ch1 and input 2 = mic and that seemed to relieve a lot of the problem. if you listen to my mp3 noodling above at the 1:23 mark, you can hear a real synth-y, toy keyboard sort of tone on the open G string. i have yet to be able to get this to go away no matter what settings i use in the pod or the workbench software. it really stands out in the 12 strings but no where else. i recently changed strings as well on the jtv69 and it is still there.

ideas?

ok. i tried your suggestion, nick, to change the inputs around. this seems to have solved a lot of the out of tune sound i was getting. there remains one issue though that i have not been able to eradicate with input settings or changing the 12 string parameters in the workbench. if you listen to my mp3 posted above, right around the 1:23 mark, on the open G string, there is a "toy organ" like continuous tone whenever the open G note is struck. nothing i do in workbench (eg: changing the string detune or volume of the detuned string, or changing the inputs on the pod) seem to eliminate the sound. any ideas? is this a piezo problem? it's pretty noticeable now that the majority of the tracking issue has been taken care of.
