if you registered it with ableton you might want to login and check your account...

i started with something like 5/6 live lite that came with an m-audio midi controller...

and they allowed me to upgrade clear to version 8 for free!

I have Ableton Live lite 5... it was free with the Toneport UX2.

Reckon I'll be giving Reaper a go.... Thanks people

Although it is not free, Reaper has an uncrippled 30 month trial. The noncommercial licence for it is $60.

Reaper has the capability to record simultaneous tracks, assuming your interface has the ability to send them.

Not suer what interface you have (I'm guessing UX2 by the tags).

if you have abelton i would give it another try,....

the included tutorials are pretty fast and immensely helpful.

if you really want an alternative try reaper http://reaper.fm

its fre to try and use on an honor system... 60$ to register

but it wont expire and you can use it forever

I found Ableton to be pretty awful in terms of figuring out how to use it. (although, granted I last looked at it about 2 years ago!)

I've been using Audacity, but while simple.... it can't record two tracks at the same time....

What (free) DAW's are available that allow me to record 2 different tracks simutaneously?

How do I configure/setup to do that?

I want to record my Taylor 314ce through both the mic and direct instrument input at the same time so I can apply effects to "one guitar" and leave the other all sweet and natural.

Any advice for a total beginner would be greatly received!
