Hi,

You do need both sides connected (8 Ohm stereo) or you run the risk blowing the power amp in the head.

What brand and model of cab are you trying to connect?

If the Spider II is anything like the Spider IV, you need to run a load on both speaker ouputs of the head. Running only one will cause an imbalance and eventually burn out something

I can appreciate the back ussues, but suggest you run 2 2x12 cabinets instead.

I don't have a 4 x 12 cabinet. Can I run a single 8 ohm cabinet from one side? I don't see where the impedance of the amp is at 4 or 16 ohms when two 8 ohm speakers are connected. I need to know ASAP. I have a bad back and can no longer lift a 4 x 12 cabinet. In summary, What is the minimum speaker load I can run? Thanks!
