Hi there,

Yeah i have already re-installed the firmware a few times now, also upgraded to 1.81 but that hasn't had any affect on the tuning knob press down so far. Will try another firmware flash one more time and if no luck will contact the service agents.

I would recommend re-installing the flash memory on the JTV using the following instructions:

If the problem persists, I would recommend contacting your local distributor to get that repaired:

Thanks for the advice. I,ve had more of a look at it and pulled the Atl tuning knob completely off. Even when pressing down on the bare shaft it still dosn't want to change into position 2 and 4, so i don't think that is the problem with mine.. So it looks like i might have a dodgey tuning selector pot? Guitar is only a month old and it has never been able to change selector modes.

When you say the LED turns blue, do you mean on the Alt tuning knob or on the Model selector knob?

I have the 59, and the Model Selection knob should show a blue light instead of the white light when the 2-3-4 is engaged by pressing the alt tune knob. Sounds like you have the Alt Tune knob bottomed out on its shaft -- can't press in because the knob hits the body. Multiple threads on the forum about this on both the Model Selection knob and the Alt Tuning knob.

You need to gently pull the Alt tuning knob up to give some movement so it can be pressed dowm. If it keeps slipping down, there have been posters here that put a small spacer into the top of the knob -- pull the knob off and some have just used a bit of paper to make the knob sit a bit higher on the shaft and give the bottom of the knob a bit of clearance from the body so you can press it down without bottoming out... It doesn't take much force to press & engage either on the model knob or the alt tune knob -- at least on mine. I do it all the time.

You can search this forum for the experience of others here on that issue. I've not had that problem as of yet -- I will have had my 59 for a year as of the end of this May.

Hi all, recently purchased a new 59 upgrading from an older style Variax.

I'm having trouble trying to access the extra pickup/models (position 2 and 4) by using the 3 way switch and trying to press the tuning knob... The 3 way switch itself works fine, i can get position 1, 3 and 5, but i can't get it to change sounds by then pressing the Alt tuning knob. I can press the knob as hard as i want but it won't select pickup 2 or 4 like it says so in the manual? Am i doing something wrong?? The tuning knob works when you rotate it, but does nothing when you press it in. Is it supposed to light the LED so something when you press it down?
