Yeah.. Im going to miss the condenser mic.. but I love the idea of wireless... less fuss, more freedom to move around etc.

BTW, Your E-V BK-1 had long been a favourite of mine too. My current favourite among "roadworthy" condenser vocal mics Is Audix's VX5.

Thanks for persevering and posting that great detailed information.

I'm sure (or Shure) that you'll appreciate how valuable that these sorts of "real world" comments and observations can be for others who are considering different equipment.

The Shure capsule I have is brand spanking new, its been sitting in a drawer for a few years and the grille is new too... Like I said.. I'm going to give the Line 6 capsule a chance first... Like I said, The only difference is the brightness of the sound overall and the handling noise is virtually non existant with the SM58 capsule

It might just be the "aging" of the SM58's capsule that's yielding the slight decrease in brightness compared to the Line 6.

Club owners and bands have frequently been amazed at the increased sonic definition that I've obtained from their apparently "clean" mics upon either

Laundering the inner foam by gently "squeezing" it under a weak solution (1 part to 4) of methylated spirits and water, (which became discoloured to a truly disgusting extent) and subsequently air drying them ...or
In the worst cases, replacing the entire grille and wind-gag assembly.

Well I got had a little fun with it today... unfortunately not on a live full PA. just my mixer, the mic and some sennheiser stereo headphones... The volume seems limited with the headphones so its not a fair test in my opinion BUT a few things I noticed...

The XD-V sounds similar to the 58 but its definately more sensitive and dare I say even a tad brighter... I swapped to the SM58 capsule I have and noticed that it was less sensitive and the handling noise that is present with the XD capsule disappeared... BUT I like the more sensitive capsule, lets me back off a bit vocally, That is my complaint with the 58s is I feel like I have to be loud into them sometimes and I feel like if I dont use a mic that lets me back off a little bit, I'll wreck my voice...

After swapping and testing over and over again I decided I would give the XD capsule an honest try for a while... I wont be on a live PA with it until Wednesday so I will see how it sounds then.... The one thing I have grown accustomed to with the BK-1 condenser mic I have been using lately is how I can pull the mic back as far as I want when I start to belt things out..we will see how it goes... I may just have to get used to keeping the mic nice and close on this one

Sounds to me like you'll be every bit as happy as "my" longstanding SM58-user "clients" have been when I've handed them one of my "58 model" XD-V handhelds.

Even when I use my wired 58, I dont " eat the mic " because I never have to... I have a pretty powerful voice so honestly Ive always been a few inches back... and always pulled the mic way back when i hit those power or high notes.... Im excited to start using it. In just testing it out I found it to be a pretty sensitive microphone.. It reminded me of my condenser mic that Ive been using , an old Electrovoice BK-1
