Flextone III with looping pedal

Hi there folks, I have a pretty newb question. I did try googling about it first, but had no luck.

Basically I have a Flextone III with the FBV shortboard controller. I'm a novice guitar player and I have not mastered the amp and all it's amazing tones and settings yet.

I'm interested in basically recording loops of what I can play through the amp with a Boss RC-30 loop station pedal, and then being able to change the tones of what I'm playing on top of the loop, while keeping the loop sounding as it did when I recorded it.

I think that there's no way to do this using the amp effects because whatever you add as input (guitar or recorded loop) is going to get effected by the amp modeling effects. Is that right? Is there a way to do a clean pass through?

I basically want to record sound I get from my guitar plugged right into the amp and using the amp effects, and continue to loop that sound without effecting it more while I change the settings to layer more effected guitar on top of it.

The usual way this is done is to put your loop pedal last in a chain of stomp boxes before going to your amp, and using external effects to craft your sound, keeping the amp set fiarly clean. But I don't have a bunch of external effects pedals and am trying to more or less accomplish the same thing using the built-in effects in the amp...

I apologize if this is a dumb or obscure question, I'm very new at this.

thanks for any help or advice.

Bogner Alchemist Mods

I recently purchased a Bogner Alchemist Head and 2x12 cabinet. I am extremely pleased with the quality, craftsmanship and sound of this product.

I was wondering if there is any mods that can be done by your shop. I would like to have the “clean/crunch” and the “Punch" switch located on the footswitch. This mod would allow complete control of the amplifier. If this can be done please let me know. Also is there a Bogner 4x12 cab available for the Alchemist?

Flextone III Volume Issues

Hi

I have a flextone III that I purchased a few years ago (no more warrenty) and recently I have had some volume issues and I am looking for some advice. I noticed that the master volume knob had been "crackling" when I turned the knob and after a little while it started to affect the overall loudness of my amp (i.e I would turn the knob up 3/4 of the way and I could barely hear it). Then after a little while I started to notice that after I would start to play for a little bit the volume would drop (about half as loud as it was before)? If I would switch channels with my FBV Shortboard ( I think that it's the shortboard it's the controller with only 2 switches) the volume would jump back up where it was supposed to be only to jump back down after I would play for a little while (sometimes immediatly after switching channels or sometimes after a couple of minutes of playing). So I took the amp back to the "local music store" where I had originally bought it from a few years earlier, they called me back and said "It's working good now you can come and pick it up" so when I went to get they told me that it was just a dirty pot so they put some lubricant/cleaner in it and it was good to go. So I took it home started playing, turned the volume knob and they were right, the "crackling" that normally would happen when I turned the volume knob was gone. However, the next day I picked up my guitar started to play and about after a few minutes of playing the volume started to drop again? And not only does the volume drop but now it increases and if you listen while your playing you can actually hear it slowly getting louder, then the volume will drop again, etc. I am confindent that when they tried to fix it at the music store they only addressed the "crackling" in the master volume knob (this I know because he only charged me $5 for the repair) and the truth is that I live in a small town and "the local music store" kinda has the attitude that "Maybe if we just tell them it's not worth fixing they will just buy a new one". So my problem is that I don't really want to bring it back to the "local music store" and when checking the LINE 6 Authorized Service Centers the nearest one to where I live is over three hours away. I would ship it there if I had to but I was wondering if any one has heard of this before and mighht be able to help me out so maybe I don't have ship it away. And yesterday I was playing through the amp and noticed that the same thing is starting to happen to the other volume knob.

Thanks

P.S I have also noticed that when I really try to get some volume out of the amp (i.e turn up the master volume around 2/3 of the way) I get this crazy sound coming from the speaker that sounds like my speaker is "farting in my face" (like a big woof sound)?

HELP: Flextone III XL Only Left Ch. Working

I'm sure this can apply to most Line 6 stereo amps, but I'll only refer to my Flextone here, as I'm sure someone with a stereo amp may have had or will have this problem in the future --- ergo, this thread will not only help ME and MY situation, but will hopefully help others!

Okay so, I loaned my combo to a friend (so he doesn't play guitar through the P.A. --- which he always does) so he can play a gig in Vegas. When I get it back a few weeks later, I'm hearing sound from the Left speaker only. The only change that was made --- I performed a Factory Reset and auditioned each setting with the Floorboard before I dropped it off at my friends studio.

I'm hoping that it's something like a Power IC or a Fuse that I can swap out myself. A bit of heads-up; I have a feeling the Perp' shoved his Boss ME-70 in front of the amp as he usually does with the house P.A. Maybe that helps with troubleshooting(?). There's also no buzzing/hissing or humming coming out of the Right speaker whatsoever; it's completely silent.

Thanks in advance to you guys for your suggestions!

~phil

FLEXTONE II sound problems/overheating

Hello Line 6 community!!

I have a FLEXTONE II Combo 2x12, 100 watts since 2003.

I've been having 3 problems with this amp, and haven´t been able to fix it since I live in a country where hardly i can find any line 6 products.

1. Usually after playin for 30min or more at high volumes, maybe between level 2 and 3 and above to be more especific, my amp starts to shut off one of the speakers, it goes and comes as im playing. This is very annoying.

2. having the same problem i mentioned, i have noticed it gets really hot inside where the circuitry is. Dont know if this is normal.

3. after having all these problems and maybe 45min of playing at same levels, when I stop playing I can notice a weird sound coming out from the speakers, I cannot describe the noise but its kinda like when you are switching channels through a radio a reeeally slow speed and as if the sound goes in the speaker, and i can also hear some static sounds.

This is my main amp and i connect it to a 4x12 line 6 cabinet and im always having this problem, I have noticed that if i switch the amp off for maybe 10 minutes it fixes the problem for a while but then comes back.

I have been told that I might need to clean up the circuitry, since i have never done it. But first i would like your advice and what I should use to fix it.

Please help me, I love this amp, and really dont want to get rid of it. I will be trying to fix it with a friend of mine who is into circuitry but first i need of your advice!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!!

Flextone 2 HD power amp repair

Hello all,

I recently bough a Flextone 2 HD where the speaker outputs do no work. The XLR outs are fine which leads me to believe that the problem is the power amps. I've have also read about other users with a similar problem where the power amp was the issue.

Accordign to my research, the power amp board is not being produced anymore so sending it to be repaired doesn't seem to be a possibility due to lack of spare arts (again according to extensive internet searches).

This leaves a DIY repair of the power amp board. I managed to get my hands on the complete Service Manual which means I have the full schematics. Has anyone here repaired one of these power amp boards? It's labelled "HDII POWER AMP REV C"? Any thoughts on where to start looking for the fault? I have noticed that I can hear a sligt rattling when I shacke the board...

Any help would be greately appreciated. I would muh rather see this amp repaired than trown away.

//andy

FLextone III with M13 - Prepare to be blown away in stereo!!

I play in a rock oriented top 40 cover band and this Flextone III has been a great amp for me. I bought a separate 1x12 extension cabinet so I could take advantage of the stereo ping-pong delay, but as good as the built in effects are, I found them limited and they do have some drawbacks. This lead me to invest in a Line 6 M13 effects board which I've owned for about 6 months and it's just last night that I had an epiphany and realized what this particular combination of gear is capable of. All I can tell you is that the results are UNBELIEVABLE. If you still have your Flextone and you have an extension cabinet as well - you MUST get your hands on an M13 and set it up with the stereo effect loop. My rig is set up now so the M13 goes into my amp through the stereo effects loop and delivers the richest and most incredible stereo effects I've ever heard. I have an FBV controller that sits beside the M13 that I use it to switch between clean, boost, crunch & distortion channels. (I don't use the flextone effects at all any more). Bottom line, there's nothing I can write here that could possibly describe how amazing this rig sounds. LINE 6, you guys are awesome!!
