Hd500 In Ear Monitoring?

I'm delving into some of the functions of my HD500 board and I got to wondering.

Would I be able to take an aux channel from my live audio mixing board and bring it back to the stage, plug into my XLR input, and get that mix through the headphone out along with my HD500?

Here's what I was thinking:

Set my input 1 source to Guitar and my input 2 source to Mic. I plug my live mixer's aux channel into the HD500's mic input.

Then in the HD500's mixer I pan path A full left and path B full right.

I send my HD500 out using the left XLR channel.

If I plug in my headphones will I get my guitar in my left ear and my aux channel mix in my right ear? Furthermore, will my aux mix only come through my headphones and not out to the live mixer? I didnt see anyplace to specifically send an input source to a particular path...am I on the right track?

Yes, you will only send the guitar signal out, and will get each channel in each ear on your headphones, because that's how you panned them. The headphone jack replicates the panning that you set.

You'll just have to make sure that Path A and Path B are perfectly separated all the way across the chain in all your tones so that you don't apply any effects or amplification to Path B.

I actually never thought of this before, but you could assign Path B's Level parameter to a pedal controller, and adjust your own mix without having to have the sound guy do it for you!

Also, of course this set up means that you can never use dual amps/dual cabs, or stereo effects. You could always buy a small 4-channel mixer and connect everything so that you're still able to end up with the same In Ear mix while using both Pod outputs and the XLR coming from the PA board.

Hmm, I was really only considering my go-to patch which is a single amp chain. But I also use some effects heavy dual chains, so that wouldn't work.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. Guess ill just use a wireless earpiece from an aux channel on the board. I can use my ipad to adjust the aux mix from the stage, so it'll be personalized. Was just hoping I could do it using the equipment I already have.

That can be done...

But why would you run the aux thru the POD!? If that's the kind of monitoring you want, buy a cheap and very smal mixer so you can do that and keep all the versatility of the POD intact!

Like I said, I dont want to have to spend more if I'm able to use the resources I already have.

What I love about the HD500 is that I can take my guitar and my HD500 from my car to my gig in one trip. Getting more gear means I need to make more trips to get my gear. I'm lazy.
