DSP Limit

Hi there.

OK, so I just bought Native, having owned a Helix Floor for nearly 2 years. Now, I accept that I walked right into this one without knowing (or trying the trial).

The reason I bought it was that I thought the DSP limit would be gone. But it's not, because Line 6 wants patches to be interchangeable between hardware and software, and that's a good reason.

So my question is whether or not there are plans to include an option to turn it off, or be able to mark a patch as "Native Only" and have the limit lifted on a per-patch basis. Maybe even have the option to have as many paths and sub-paths as a user could handle.

+1. It would be very nice to have this a feature that was specific to Helix Native; however, as an IT professional, this may be more difficult to implement than it seems because of the shared code base. I do agree that it would be very nice to have a DSP limit that was only limited on your Mac/PC CPU processing power.

That's a good point, of course they'd have to work some magic with the code. Maybe a separate plugin altogether?

Digital Igloo (Online Handle of Line 6's Helix Senior Product Manager), posted a few months ago that they are looking into this issue. There was no promise that this capability would be implemented, nor was there any timeline indicated. I would not expect this to appear in version 2.5 firmware (anticipated to be released this coming week).

Just a thought, and I haven't tested this......

Has anyone tried using 2 instances of Helix Native in their DAW to simulate a doubling of the DSP? You would arrange your signal flow in the 2 instances to mimic what you would otherwise do if the DSP limit were removed.

You could do it on the same track where (presumably) the output of the 1st instance feeds into the 2nd instance. Alternatively you might need to create a second (empty) audio track and route the output of Track 1 into the input of Track 2 with both tracks having one instance of Helix Native.

I just got Helix Native, and tried chaining two instances so that the first had Doubler enabled, and the second was just supposed to be a dual amp setup.  I found that for some reason the instant I put two amps into the 2nd chain, it summed to mono.  If I had an amp on one side, but not the other, the 2nd instance was still in stereo.

Since I'm new to the program, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not.

Yes, I have. Like with all plugins you can use as many instances as your CPU can handle in any configuration - serial, parallel, looped... but I think it does not make sense. If you work with DAW you have almost unlimited number of other plugins IR loaders , reverbs and so on. So you can easilly override any HxN limitations.
5 instances Hx Native use about 30% CPU power of old 3gen 4 core i5 with 10ms Round Trip Latency (vs one instance on Dual DSP Hardware Helix at 1,8ms)
