I'm Getting Hiss On My L3t

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I was fine tunning my presets to my L3t yesterday and I was getting quite some hiss. I had a jack from the hd500 to ch1 on the l3t mixer, master on both pod and l3t were at 50% and the gain on the mixer was about 1/4.

Hiss almost disappeared when I activated the pad on the mixer, or connected the jack to the input on the back, which is padded to start with.

I checked everything on the pod for settings, and the l3t was always in PA mode...is this normal? I didn't try the l6 link cause I don't want to lose control of the master on the pod and I don't want the pod changing the modes on the l3t, cause I want it in PA mode all the time.

So, any ideas?

What you describe is normal. The HD500 Studio/Direct output is line level, and best for the L3t PA/Reference mode. The L3t mixer inputs expect instrument/mic level. It's best to use the L3t rear panel inputs for your HD500 outputs. You can also experiment with changing the HD500 output mode to one of the  Combo/Stack modes (instrument level output) for the |L3t mixer and perhaps changing the L3t mode.

Ok, good to know what's been posted about plugging the HD500x into the L3t.  Issue I'm having, I have a mic in Channel 2 and a Guitar into Channel 1.  There is a cycling hiss that comes through ever so often, and the fans kick in shortly after.  Is there any way to stop that?  And for some reason, my guitar side comes back distorted like it's clipping out, but it is not.  I have a pretty expensive fishman system in my guitar, and I've never had problems going direct into anything before.  Suggestions?  Thanks :)
