I Love My Vax Transplant!

Played my newest plant live at church this morning and I gotta tell ya,,,,,,,,,amazing tone!!Plays like worn in strat, smooth.I actually never even played the mag's at all(they do sound good  but the vax tones are better).I found a semi setting, neck pu I think, coupled with my modded ts9 and through my Duoverb ac30 patch/slightly dirty, wonderful tone!Perfect subtleties and harmonics!!I think it actually is the best tone I have ever had!!Something about the guitar, pedal, amp setting just worked awesome.I got alot of compliments afterwards on not only the tone but the guitar as well,,,,,made feel really good ya know. Its nice to hear something you put together not only worked but sounds good.Anyway, keep the builds going,I am proof that you can build something to your own specs and actually like the sound, feel and also have a sense of accomplishment without spending an ungodly amount of dough.Total cost of my build was approx   $550(300 for the vax and the rest guitar parts, luck, work and a patient wife!!).Peace guys!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy for you, friend. Enjoy, enjoy

Our passion is something unique. When I talk about it around me, people start to laugh, then are interested, then are very exited. I hope I'll finish mine this year, but babies are sooooo time consuming (especially twins ).

I know what you mean, loving mine too. I hadn't played my strat for awhile, so when I picked it up the other day, I was kind of shocked at how dull it sounded, acoustically. It played fine and everything, but even plugged in, it doesn't sound as good as my vax strat, let alone all the other great guitars I have in it. I also appreciated your comment about not using the mags. It seems everyone is so hung up on getting both the vax and mag pickups in one axe, but I don't have much use for them ( besides insurance). I can spend hours trying different pickups and combinations of pickups and bodies in workbench! It's like having a new guitar when ever I want! I can set up a totally custom neck, bridge and both mash-up and have this totally unique guitar! If I get tired of it, or find a better combo, I just upload the new setup and save the old one. Beautiful! Better living through vax-atomy!

Yes! Would I love having all those guitars? You bet. But since space and money are a very real factor, I'll take the next best thing to that...a variax! Any guitar I can dream up with the combo of available bodies and pickups, in almost any tuning I want? Fugettaboudit!
