Is PodFarm plugin using my X3pro hardware for audio processing?

Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me - does anyone know if PODfarm purely uses your PC's cpu to generate amp sounds and effects or is is actually using the PODx3 hardware for audio processing?
I want to integrate my podx3 into a live setting which is being controlled via a macbook pro (for generating samples, sending a click to the drummer) but I would also like it to send program changes to my X3 - and while I know I can do this the hard way with midi changes from the macbook I'd rather use a nice GUI plugin (like podfarm/gearbox) for easy editing...
I only need the plugin to send changes to the X3 (like the standalone version of Gearbox) - as far as I can tell POD Farm just uses your x3 as a dongle and the gearbox plugin for a daw doesn't exist anymore (as it's been replaced by POD farm)...obviously I don't want the CPU overhead of generating effects and amp models live (the macbook will melt). I'd like the POD x3 hardware to do the work (that's why I bought it
)
would appreciate some guidance here..
