What: reason4 record, sometimes riffworks standard when im practicing, podxt.
Why: because im simple
Cubase 5.
Because it is so fully featured, incredibly powerful when run on a high spec machine.
Superb convolution reverb, Highly intuitive work-flow.
Highly stable.........
Reaper... amazing DAW for the price... nothing compares to it..
Cubase 5! The best DAW
Reaper.
I have just started (about 6 months in) trying to learn how to record, and my friend, who works at a local studio, told me to give it a try. First off, the price is great. They use Sonar, I believe, most of the time, and Reaper as well. After 2 sessions of him teaching me around the controls, I have been able to track a lot of my demos. I still have a ton to learn about it, but it's been able to do what I needed. That being, recording demos of songs that I've had for years.
Protools LE... basically because I was studying sound engineering and that was what the studio/college was using and we did some of the official Protools courses so its real easy for me to use now. They fixed a lot of (seriously overdue) omissions when it came to MIDI with version 8 so I'm well happy
I use Reaper most of the time but I do have Sonar Producer 8.5.3 and Studio One Pro. Reaper is just faster and it has great themes. On my Mac I use Logic Studio 9.
Whats Studio One like? I read reviews when it came out and it looks pretty good
Actually Studio One 1.5 is really nice. Great Drag & Drop for plug-ins kinda like ableton but it looks better - more like a standard DAW... I have the Pro Version and it runs all my VST's fine including Pod Farm. It's great - I just find myself firing up Reaper cause all I'm doing lately is practicing and I like plug-ins, so I practice in a DAW... I love me some BBE Harmonic Maximizer, and also I add Oligarc Chrorus (just a touch) to my High-Gain stuff - really brings out the clarity of the notes better... try adding a touch of Chorus to high-gain you'll be surprized... and my BBE plugins are great - Harmonizer and Maximizer get used a lot here. They're part of the Sonic Sweet Bundle. I'm also running a lot of the Free Amp Sims out with Kefir for my impulses. Great Sounds! Acmebargig will be releasing their New SHRED 1.5 Amp Package soon (Free too) - if you have tried Shred 1.06 you'll know how great it is - I'm a Beta Tester for the new one and it's gonna blow everyone away. New Heads (about 8 different heads to choose from), Dual Cabs with Impulses galore (or you can load your own), new Pedal Board, etc - it's just Wickedly Fine! Should be released this coming weekend we're hoping. They have some great heads right now and effects too (All Free Too). Shred has it's own Cabs but the head only VST's require Kefir or Boogex to host the impulses for the cabs (hope I ain't losin' ya) - If you want some Brutal High-Gain try the Preampus Metal 60 or their "Gimme Head" (it's really the name) but it will require Kefir like I said or just try their Shred 1.06 - it has built-in cabs so you don't need to add anything. The new 1.5 will also come as both a Standalone program and VST plug-in too. They'll release the new one to the Forum Members first - join the forum and keep checking in - it's already passed the beta testing - they're just putting the finishing touches on it (adding some newer impulses, etc.)

But Anyway - you'd like Studio One - it's sweet - check out the demo on Presonus's site - it works for 30-days
here's a couple screenshots of 2 of the new amps and entire plug-in window - the pedal board isn't shown here but it has a bundle of great stomps and rack effects too including a fantastic noise-gate

well it won't allow screenshots - it also reduces the size - they're bigger on screen

I LOVE those sceenshots and to answer your original question I cant follow, though I've read about some of them. (I'm stuck with RTAS as opposed to VST and fairly happy with it too to be honest)
Like Geeker I used an early Cubase (circa 10 yrs ago) and even 5 yrs ago there was sooooo much cool free, shareware and "might as well cost nothing" ware out there
I cant follow your chain of FX exactly there, Strangedog but I'm sure its deadly (I know mine was! Ha ha!
)
I guess we're off the point of the thread a bit here so for arguments sake I'll throw in that I like Protools but there's so much out there I cant use without a wrapper and I dont really care because I'm kinda happy with what I have
Might start up a different thread about this and thanks for the insight n2 the Presonous stuff
