Floor Pod Plus Editor

To restart a long (couple of years long) thread from the old forum,

When will us Floor Pod Plus users finally, finally, get an Vyzex editor?

            > It says in the document that Line 6 Tone files for Pocket Pod and Pod 2.0 will work for FPP, but not exactly the same.  When will there be an online library for FPP tones?

As soon as users start posting tones exported from Vyzex Floor Pod Plus, of course. L6T files exported from the FPP editor will carry the FPP product ID and will import back into the editor without any translation required.

If you are wondering if there are plans to post official 'Floor POD Plus tones by Line 6', your guess is as good as mine. I consider the FPP factory presets to be a good starting point, however.

            Cheers,

            Tony

                  Re: Floor Pod Plus Editor

Ok, so I came into the discussion late. And by the time I bought a Floor Pod Plus, there was a working Vyzex editor, so I didn't have to wait for that. And one of the main reasons I bought the FPP, is that on all the Line 6 literature and brochures, it indicated that there were thousands of tones to download and use. Of course, now that I own it and have an account, I find that is not really all that accurate since there are only three downloadable FPP tones.(Very misleading...leave it to ad people)

That said and done, going on the knowledge that one can use other POD tones, I have downloaded several, however, when I attempt to open them, I get the following error message.

                  L6T_ErrorMsg.bmp

So what gives? Any ideas what causes this error?

                    Re: Floor Pod Plus Editor

Only POD 2.0 and PocketPOD L6T files are going to be compatible with the FloorPOD Plus tone engine: This is covered in the handy Pilot's Guide PDF installed with the program (and also posted as a document to this group for online access).

Let us know if you have any other trouble.

Ok I downloaded the editor to poke around and have a look. Is it worth the $30 to order the M-Audio Uno to edit the presets? I would think you could reach all the same things from the face of the pod.

I personally think it is worth it. It makes it easy, and you can easily name your tone. Editing effects are easier, so yeah, in my opinion, I would. That is the one I bought, also. You won't hear the sound through the PC speakers, so you will either need headphones or plug it into and amp as well.

Thanks for the response, I went ahead and ordered the uno last night, it's only $30 right? I have a hrd time editing the delay and chorus on the pod, hold this down and turn this, too much BS, I hope this makes the tones I want.I had planned on tuning through the amp anyway, it always sounds differnet through the speakers tan it does the phones, plus the volume of the amp also makes a difference.

    Re: Floor Pod Plus Editor

OK got the Uno today, installed the driver fro mthe CD, which was not signed for XP. Autosensing doesn't work, data transfer between the editor and the pod.it still let me in and I changed the amp type and it froze. I restarted the computer since I had just installed the driver and software and again the same thing. I pull the drop down menu, choose hte amp nad the numbers just run wild in the menu and I can't do anymore.

Also it won't donwload data from the FPP.I can upload the factory settings to the pod, but i can't edit anything on the fly, which is the reason I bought the Uno.

Maybe try uninstalling the Vyzex editor, reboot, then re-install. That is strange. I am running it on Vista with no problems at all after installation at all.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it did work somewhat,it freezes and I have no luck saving anything I do manage ot get done. Looks like a waste of money. Really I wonder why you can't access all the settings from the pod, rediculous.

Have you downloaded the latest UNO drivers from M-Audio? The symptoms you describe sound like a connection problem:

          http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver

          09-03-2010 11-48-00 PM.png

As you can see, the Uno USB has its own entry in the MidiSport series category.

Next, if you are having issues with the Uno once the latest driver is installed, check out this link:

          http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=8c141de1abcdfcfa6afe42d85f247f1b

It offers troubleshooting help for their drivers including the UNO.

If you are convinced the problem is the Vyzex editor, please let us know the exact problem along with any error dialogs you might encounter. What are the circumstances around the 'freezing'? Are you connecting your UNO through a hub?

            Re: Floor Pod Plus Editor

I did download the latest drivers for hte uno tonight and installed them on the main computer in the house, where I was using the one in the studio before, they are both Identical HP P4's with XP SP2 installed. I thought maybe it was something weird. Still the same issue.

It will open, autosense doesn't find FPP, and I click cancel, then it will not download the info, cancel all,and into the editor.

Once inside the editor I can turn the chorus, delay, reverb,on and off, even change the types, chrus 1,2 ect,but to change an amp modell, or bank it just cycles through the numbers and the midi out light on the FPP blinks.

I have to do a task manager to shut it down. Then I get the error Midi Quest failed.

Very annoying,I like the sounds of the verbs, delays and chorus I can get through the software, this is retarded

Here is a video, poor quality as it is, maybe you can see what I'm talking about. It actually let me do a few more clicks than usual before freezing.

Alos I'm plugged into the USB in the front of the tower,I think I'll try plugging into the back and see if that makes a difference, I don't see how it would, but you never know I guess.lol

If your computer is routing the front USB ports through an internal hub then you could experience a lot of the troubles you are reporting.

If you get the same problem when connected to a rear USB port, can you run the software without the UNO connected as a test? Cancel out the autosense and upload procedure and just do a bunch of editing in the software: Does it lockup and crash then?

Hi Tony thanks for the quick response. I did connect through the back, and turned  off the auto sensing. It does work fine without hte FPP hooked up. I actually was able to go in and create some patches and save them as long as I do a direct edit session.I'm not sure if that makes any sense, I can't do a virtual editing session though

OK, This is an old thread, but should I take it to indicate that the Vyzex/FPP are sensitive to the particular MIDI/USB cable in use?

I connect OK, and it seems to upload from my FPP but however I try to change from the editor it doesn't work. Lights flash and I will see the change "." show up on the FPP display but I didn't seem to store to the FPP. I just updated my drivers and now I seem to be able to store.

In bank mode if I try to drag and drop the name will move but the content doesn't - even after the driver update.

                    E-MU Midi.

                      Re: Floor Pod Plus Editor

E-Mu/Creative Labs used to be one of the best when it came to MIDI interfaces - The SoundBlaster MIDI port was the gold standard and it could handle really big volumes of SysEx data.

Unfortunately, those days are gone. The latest MIDI interfaces by EMU cannot handle more than average flows of performance data without choking up. Their handling of large amounts of SysEx (What the FPP generates and the Vyzex editor responds with) is not reliable enough.

I suggest you use another interface like the affordable (under $50) models available from M-Audio, Cakewalk (Roland) or Edirol (Roland again). The UM line by the Roland owned companies is particularly excellent for this and is also multi-client meaning you'll be able to interface your FPP to a DAW program at the same time as the Vyzex editor.

                      Cheers,

                        Re: Floor Pod Plus Editor

Well, I've been working with it more and what I find is that it never truly syncs to the FPP.

                        Example:

I set up in virtual mode.

Select a patch (31d), reduce the volume to 0.

The "." shows on the FPP to indicate a change and the volume does change.

Click Sync, then sync channel. Each click shows activity on the FPP but the "." change indicator remains.

From Vyzex I select 31c then 31d and it correctly shows the volume at 0 but the FPP still has the old volume setting.

If I manually rotate the volume on the FPP I see the knob rotate on the Vyzex screen. If I change the volume on the Vyzex screen the volume changes on the FPP.

Everything seems to work except the actual "save" on the FPP.

Now, If I make a change on Vyzex (which is transmitted to the FPP) and manually press "Save" 2x on the FPP it is saved.

So, I can edit using Vyzex and load each patch as long as I save manually via the FPP.

If I re-load a set and select "on-line" as opposed to virtual and "auto save" I get the same thing. I can change volume on a patch, I see the change indicator in the FPP and can even select "store-in" and select the same channel to force an overwrite. The change indicator remains. I select a new channel and come back and the Vyzex displays the new volume setting but the FPP does not reflect it.

Bank editing basically does not work without the save function.

So everything works except the actual "store" to the FPP.

Is this a defective FPP or an inadequate MIDI interface?

                        Regards

Right - These symptoms are completely consistent with what I said about the EMU interface's inability to handle large SysEx messages. Apparently whenever Vyzex tries dumping a preset to your FPP the message never makes it past the interface:

                          wobbie wrote:

Program change and Continuous Controller Message... No problem there - Those messages are under 5 bytes long and are standard MIDI, not SysEx.

Click Sync, then sync channel. Each click shows activity on the FPP but the "." change indicator remains.

Preset dump message is over 100 bytes long and is SysEx. EMu fails to transmit full message, but FPP shows it is receiving something, but FPP rejects it since it is corrupted or incomplete.

So, I can edit using Vyzex and load each patch as long as I save manually via the FPP.

I think you may find that the edits you have made are applied to presets that were already in the FPP memory, and not the ones that you loaded in Virtual mode.

The one inconsistent thing in this theory is that you aren't having problems when the program start up to 'get' the FPP's data are you? If all the sounds on your FPP are loading up on launch without errors then it appears that your Emu interface is passing these dump messages into the computer without a problem.

Tell you what - I will see about us aquiring one of these Emu interfaces and having our test guys duplicate your setup - This will take a week or so depending on how locally available that interface is for us. In the meantime, I suggest you borrrow an Edirol or Cakewalk MIDI interface and try that instead of the EMU.

                          Cheers,

                          Tony

PS: Wobbie, which model is it by the way? I notice you never mentioned this earlier in the thread.

                            Hello,

I am new to this forum and also new in the L6 community.

I have bought a new FPP, and I experience exactly the same  problems as described by Wobbie.

Everything seems to work fine, but the tones I download will never enter the FPP.

                            I use an E-MU midi1x1 Tab device.

Maybe I should go to the store and ask to borrow another device ?

                            Thank you for your help.

                            Thierry
