Glenn DeLaune is a beast!

I'm literally running out the door, but I wanted to give a shout out to Glenn DeLaune. Many of you know him from his great tutorial videos using all sorts of gear (including the Pod X3 Live). What you may not know is what an amazing, amazing singer he is as well! We did a project together for a songwriting competition for a new movie coming out called "Last Rites" (the website is here: http://lastritesfilm.com/ ).
So the plan was I was going to write the whole song, record all the instruments. I'd asked Glenn about a month ago whether he'd be willing to do the vocals for it, and he was kind enough to say yes.
Fast forward to ten days ago when I wrote him an email telling him I was giving up b/c I didn't have anything to go with at all. So he says "well I really want to do this, and I've got some riffs lying around -- how about you write the lyrics and I'll handle writing and recording the song?"
Long story short, the guy wrote and recorded the attached song in about a day and a half. I did the mixing, but man this guy's amazing.
We submitted the song last night -- when the website posts it for voting, I'll send the link here and ask for your support!
Cheers,
Fester2k
Pretty cool, man. The song and the story behind it.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Everything he does is spectacular. He did such a great performance in such a short amount of time, I was floored.

fester2k,
I could have sworn I commented on this song on some other thread, but forget where. Not wild about the talking vocals, but otherwise, everything sounds good, especially the guitars. Also, this mix sounds better to me overall than the previous mix I heard. Fun project! I was tempted to enter the contest, but I don't think I have a tune that's a good fit for the movie.........well maybe....

Hmm...I know I didn't post the mix anywhere -- I'm guessing there must be some other song you're thinking of. I wrote the lyrics to this song barely a week ago, so it's hard to imagine that you heard this mix.
Regardless, I appreciate the comments on the mix, as that was the only "sonic" contribution I made to the project. It helped tremendously to have this bundle of perfectly performed instruments and vox.
Did you end up submitting anything?

fester2000,
I sent you a private message, so make sure you read that. I did end up submitting a tune of mine to the movie site (knowing my tunes don't sound as polished as Glenn's). I don't know if I did it properly though: I just e-mailed them a link to my soundclick website (a particular song) on March 1st: which I think was the last day possible to submit.......or maybe it was too late. I didn't have time to research it much. Where can I read your lyrics?
They've got the songs up and the voting has started! Please vote for the Glenn & Eric song, if you're so inclined! Thanks in advance for your support!

fester2k,
Either I was too late or I didn't do my submission in a proper fashion, so my tune is not on the movie website. Oh well. I listened to your movie tune (somewhat surprised it wasn't "End of Me") & parts of all of your competitor tunes. I'm not going to vote for fester just because he can light up a light bulb in his mouth. I thought your/Glenn's tune was as good/appropriate (or better) as any of the others, so I voted for you. I think your tune is much better than the front runner (she must have more family & friends voting). I'm confused. You can't vote for the semi-finalists? Or it's already too late for them? I thought the lyrics of "End of Me" were quite good: reminded me of a an ex-girlfriend: she could be wonderful & other times a total bee-yotch. So what part(s) did you do on the movie tune (which turned out well BTW)?

Um -- I'm a little confused -- our tune is the "End of Me" -- they don't have any titles on any of the songs. Regardless, I certainly appreciate the support. I didn't know I'd shown you that lightbulb trick, hehehehahahaha. I agree that the frontrunner is stuffing the ballot somehow, but I'm not sure how she's doing it.

No, can't vote for the semi-finalists -- they're already in the semifinals (they submitted their songs a long time ago). I think that there will be a "semi-final" round, and the current batch of 15 or so songs (including ours) will be weeded down to 5, so there will be 10 semi-finalists total. There's no info on what the semis will look like.

Ha -- yeah that's kind of the point re the lyrics -- it's a little hard to get any details re the storyline of the movie, but clearly this woman Juliette is the main character and she's a badass assassin chick out for blood. So I wrote the lyrics and sent them to Glenn. He then wrote an entire song around them (he had to modify them a bit to make it all work), wrote and recorded all the instruments and he recorded the vocals. He sent me a mix and was gracious enough to allow me to do a remix, so he sent me all the raw wave files and I put it back together with a few tweaks here and there.
Ok, thanks again for your support!

fester2k,
Last time I clicked on Glenn & Eric, it apparently played that song by competitor Trevor. Or I somehow made a mistake. I wondered why the vocals sounded so different than "End of Me". Either way, I feel "End of Me" deserved my vote. It played it correctly tonight.

Yeah, the whole thing was pretty glitchy. There are still a few submissions that won't play at all for me (Ryan McCabe, in particular). Again, I really appreciate the vote! We need tons and tons (our competitors appear to be stuffing the ballot boxes somehow -- "DonkeyBoy" already has nearly 3,000 entries in three days. WTF?

Hi Fester,
I was on Glen's blog-site and found a link to this video where he is singing Zeplin's Since I've Been Lovin You with an orchestra backup and doing a very, very good job of it. Very talented man.
Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q06tvPwU4uo
I voted for you.
7% of the 45 votes from B.C. were for you. That means me and two others. ![]()
