Mechanical squeak on FBV Express MKII pedal

I've got a brand spankin' new FBV Express MKII that has a squeaking pedal.  It drives me bonkers.  I hesitate to 'oil' it for fear that is will get too loose.  Any suggestions on the best way to silence this thing?
