hi friends
I have a BBE Sonic stomp pedal. I have no clue how to connect it to POD and amp. I had already asked this question and it was answered but when I read it it doesnt make sense.
A second question is, once I have figured oout how to integrate one external pedal, how do I add and connect a second external pedal? (Boss Octaver)
thank you!
Sebastian
Whenever connecting other effects to the pod, you have 4 options:
* BEFORE the pod
* In the pod's FX loop, when the fx loop is configured in the 'pre' position
* in the pod's FX loop, when the fx loop is configured in the 'post' position
* AFTER the pod.
The chain looks something like this:
Before => stomp => FX (pre) => amp simulation => mod => FX (post) => delay => reverb => After
Of the two 'fx' settings, you can choose only one (can't have both simultaneously). There is no hard rule as to the best place to put effects other than what sounds best to you. However, there are conventions. The BBE sonic stomp manual suggests to put the pedal "immediately before the amplifier". That would be 'FX (pre)'. As for an octaver, I'd put it either before the pod, or in the fx loop pre, before the BBE.
Although there are a number of options, there's no substitute for trying, and choosing what works best for you. The BBE stomp manual also mentions the possibility of using the amp's FX loop -- that would be in the pod's 'FX (post)' (which would have also been my guess).
to my knowledge, the BBE process is much less of an "effect" than it is a corrective process aimed at realigning the phase differences between different frequencies as they come off of speakers, so as to minimize what they call "frequency smearing" (if i remember correctly)... this kind of thing really only belongs at the very last point in your signal chain, before your power amp and speakers... so i would plug your X3L 1/4" live output into the input of the BBE and plug the output of the BBE into whatever you're using for amplification (this is assuming that your plugging the X3L into the fx loop return or power amp in of a guitar amplifier or that you are using a dedicated power amp, as opposed to running your X3L into the front panel input of a guitar amp... i'm not going to tell you that running into the front panel input is wrong, but it's not what i would do... at any rate, if you are going into the front panel input, you should probably put the BBE in the fx loop of the amp if you have one)...
as far as other types of effects go, the X3L's fx loop is probably your best bet... that way you have some sort of control over the placement of that effect in the chain... that would be the best place for any kind of pitch-based effect, like your octave pedal... anything like a wah pedal or an acoustic simulator or a pickup simulator should probably go before the X3L, in my opinion...
thanks again Chris! How and where exactly do I plug in he cables of the octaver pedal?
Cant wait to integrate these pedals!
There is a lot of good discussion here. Again, the octave pedal has a number of placed where it can be placed so it is up to you to decide which location works best for your setup. See the following link for more Pedal FAQs:
