Help with University Paper

Hi there,
I'm a Music Degree student studying at TVU (Thames Valley University)
I'm currently doing my final year dissertation comparing line6's model'd amps to there real life counterparts.
I was wondering if any of the staff here (or even the community) could put me in contact with someone or shed some light on how Line 6 capture and model the amps found in the POD ranges and what the process involves?
If you would like to email some replies then you can email my university address;
Thank you in advance,
Tony
Good luck with that. I'm afraid you're not going to get very far in actually getting information regarding the actual modeling process. It's proprietary information, and Line 6 is kind of known to be very tight-lipped about giving any technical information out.
+1 to phil
You better get yourself an electric/electronic engineer and sound engineer to explain the behavior and perception of an amplifier, and the things to take in mind when modelling.
Thanks so far guys!
I kinda guessed it was going to be a bit to much to ask for really.
I'm not new to the modelling concept, I know about drum samples and stuff and there done on velocity layers mapped to midi notes. I can guess that the Amps are not mic'd up and captured at multi velocity like the drums because the possibilitys and outcomes would be horrible to deal with as a designer of the pod.
I'm trying to work out in my head how its possible they have done this trying to emulate the heads, the cabs I get the idea of because I understand about impulse reverbs and cab impulses so I can see how they can go about modelling cabs (though I read somewhere that Line 6 don't use impulses, but its possibly based around a similar process). Its just the heads that are confusing me! I have a couple of ideas, but they seem far fetched.
I could go to an engineer that knows about this but I kinda wanted something closer to the source for a solid reference quote for my essay if you get me?
But it looks like that is my only option at the moment unless Line6 feel like shedding the tiniest bit of light on the subject lol.
Thanks again guys! Do you know how to contact Line 6 directly? I tried to find a direct email but it kept sending me here.
Tony
very nice reference, i'me sure that will help him.
Mimungr thank you very much!
That's going to be a great help! I have no idea how you found that haha. I've been googling for everything under the sun about this topic and not found to much to be honest. But that whole article will help immensely.
Can't thank you enough for that.
Tony
As already mentioned, we cannot provide you with any unpublished, proprietary information, however, here is an article from March '06 that was conducted by Sound on Sound magazine on Line 6:
