variax 300 string question

ok, after having gone thru a couple of used duds, i finally scored a good one... least, so far it is... good setup, and plays nice, except the strings are too light for my taste... and looking at the ones on it, i'm not sure exactly how they come off... i don't see any helps on that here, and there's no discussion on it... so i thought i'd just ask... what am i missing seeing?
oh, i kinda like heavier strings, what plays best on this?
oh yeah, another question came to mind as i was about to submit this... which digital cable is best? i see several kinds available... i thought i had bought one to use with my 700 acoustic, but evidently not.... can't find it... all i can find is the shorty that came with the software...
thanks....
I Have the 700 Acoustic and the 700 uses pegs in the bridge to retain the strings ... I believe the 300 steel has holes in the bridge so strings should slide up thru from the bottom of the gutiar. I am using Martin acoustic SP 80/20 Bronze custom lights .011-.052 and they play very nicely.
as far as cables go the variax cable listed under products - add-ons - acessories ... then select ...oh use this link ... the cable is 20ft. i got lucky and picked one up at GC in the clearance bin. I believe it is a networking cable but i am not sure how the pairs of wires are ordered. I will wring out myne with my meter and see ... once we know that you could make your own I am sure there are limitations.

Hope this helps
well, of course there are holes in the back!! well DUH!!! how could i have missed it?
i'm fairly new to guitar, and though i have several, this is the FIRST one i have that is strung like this... i've a couple of solid bods and a hollow, but nothing that does this...
THANKS!!!
on the cable, i've been cautioned not to use a regular ethernet cable, not so much because of the pinouts, i don't think, but because of the possibility of it becoming loose in the socket and moving around, not having the metal shielding to hold it in place...
i'll have a look at GC and see...
again! MANY THANKS!!!
boy do i feel dummmmmmm...... ![]()

People have had various problems which have been attributed to using a standard ethernet cable on the output. It's really not worth saving a few dollars/pounds and end up wrecking your expensive guitar. The 'proper' line6 cable has a metal housing not unlike a male XLR and makes a much sturdier connection both to the Vax and amp/Pod.
And if your Vax goes wrong one day, at least you'll know it wasn't because of a cheap regrettable cable.
thanks, i did exactly that... works great..
