Difficulties using PodXT live and Sonar 7 PE

Hi,
I recently bought a pretty good computer for work and thought I'd try setting up this PodXT live via USB to record some tracks. I've been trying both ASIO and WDM/KS drivers but both seem to show the same problem: When I arm the track to record or try to playback anything, the computer freezes for a while, then the timeline stars moving and sometimes, I really mean only sometimes, de audio engine starts (clearly, I can hear some noise in my phones) and even when it does (during playback), it's not synced with the timeline.
You can check my specs here. The only difference I find is RAM memory: I'm running on 6 Gb.
Cmon, people? Noone?
From what I've been reading it could be some kind of incompatibility between pod's USB1.1 drivers and my USB chipset. Would anyone back it up or suggest a solution?
Hello,
Our ASIO drivers should work fine with Sonar. Have you tried uninstalling them and doing a fresh install?
Line6Miller
Miller,
You mean reinstalling the drivers or Sonar? I can do that, but can you explain what might have gone wrong?
I feel more inclined to hardware incompatibilities. Will try a fresh installation though.
Hello,
Actually, I mean uninstalling the drivers for the POD.
Go to your Add/Remove programs list in Windows Control Panel and run the Line 6 Uninstaller app. Uninstall your drivers and then download a fresh set of drivers from http://line6.com/software/.
Install those and let me know if you continue to have issues. Thanks.
Line6Miller
Hey Miller,
do you think there may be an issue with the fact that my Sonar is 64-bits?
I just saw the drivers being installed in my x86 folder.
Hello,
That shouldn't matter. Are drivers for the POD are 64 bit compatible.
Line6Miller
Yeah, that didn't help. Neither did reinstalling Sonar as 32-bits.
Anything else?
Hello,
I just recently noticed Sonar 8 behaving sort of weird for me on my 64 bit install of Windows 7. Are you running Windows 7 as your OS?
If so, can you tell me exactly how you have your drivers configured in Sonar under Options/Audio?
Line6Miller
As a matter of fact, yes, it's Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Describe the weirdness of your Sonar, perhaps you're better at it.
Alright, here we go:
Under General Tab:
Both Playback and Recording Timing Masters are pod's ASIO inputs and outputs
64 bit double precision engine is checked
audio driver bit depth is 16
Sampling rate is 44100
2 buffers in playback queue
Latency is set to fast, but sliding it to safe does not make a difference in behaviour
Under ASIO panel:
Buffer Size 512
Bit Depth 16
USB Audio Streaming Buffer Size is between Extra Small and Medium
Under Advanced tab:
Read and Write cacheing are enabled
Driver mode is ASIO, of course
Dithering is Triangular
Synchronization is Full Chase Lock
Checked:
Share Drivers with other programs
Use Multiprocessing Engine
Use MMCSS
Remove DC Offset During Record
Anything else relevant?
Hello,
I just matched your audio preferences configuration here on Sonar 8 on Windows Home Premium 64 bit with a POD XTL connected and set up as the I/O device in Sonar.
I get no glitches or lags on playbacks. It's possible there is some other driver or piece of hardware on your computer causing the glitches.
Have you tried the POD with another DAW other than Sonar to see if it behaves the same way?
Also, you may want to try some of the tips I've called out int he attached Word doc to see if they help. Let me know. Thanks.
Line6Miller
Which DAW do you suggest?
My father just bought a similar computer, I'm gonna try it in his to test the hardware variable.
Hi,
I'm back in the war against this thing.
So I got my hands on a Cubase 5 and I was trying to make it work when I realized playing my guitar had no effect on the volume bar when I selected Pod XT Live as my defauld recording hardware and ticked "Listen to this device" (or something like that). My drivers are up to date. Any suggestions?
OK, so it works now. I had the uninstall the brand new drivers I installed this morning and do it all over again. Good thing is it works with Cubase.
By the way, since I'm here again, I just wanted to say that I did NOT call that answer (the one above) "Correct" or "Helpful" and don't know who did. And to be honest "try another DAW" is not even an "ok" answer. It's not so easy to get another one and Sonar is a major recording software, so Line 6 hardware should have PERFECT P&P with that.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
