Pod X3 Live - Which outputs to use??

This may sound retarded, but its become an interesting view.
So our bass player got the first Pod, we found a ok sound to work with tweaked it and flew...Good times.
Now the guitarist has one also, double good times.
Now that we are tweaking the sounds together so they blend and don't drown each others freq's out, the drummer (me) discovered a hitch.
The bass has been in studio direct mode for 1/4 inch output, its been great and sounds massive. Obviously the appropriate out put is a combo front, great tone and more real bass sounding. Live we were planing on live and di bass.
The other thing is we use rehearsal amp all the time which change in quality as well as live. And the head phone sound is never like the amp sound obviously.
question
For consistant results in sound What is the best way to use the outputs?
I understand using Studio/DI is sending all the amp/cab/mike selections?
Where as the combo/stack fronts by pass amp/cab/mike selections?
As we are getting used to certain sounds that are sometimes over powering at times e.g. massive bass freq on certain notes via studio/di, we want to get it right first time!
Any thoughts??
My suggestion is to try the combo front setting and mess with the EQ of the amp model/amplifier that the POD is plugged into.
Sounds to me like there is more tweaking necessary to get the sound you (collectively) are looking for.
Does this help?
