Rich,
When we current Variax I users get the JTV of our choice home and fire up Workbench, will we simply be able to move our existing patches/bundles to the new guitar and play them translated through the extra DSP? I'm guessing some rebuilding might be needed for Alt tuning patches since that is a separate feature on JTV.
Thanks
Pete
That is exactly right Pete. I checked. Good news.
Glad to know what I said prior to Pete was all correct as well. Yippie for me!

Thanks Rich & Neal,
That is super good news. A huge bonus for those of us who bought into VAX technology on the cutting edge. Yippie for all of us.
Totally, I agree.

Im seconding ihudson and slightly altering his question, is it possible to connect a jtv to a Vetta and get the vdi sounds through that while also running the magnetics through a standard audio cable or even the footswitch? Im really hoping to save a lot of time and effort

They look stunning though! Great work!

Hi Line6!
People have replied to this, i get an email saying so but i can't see their posts here? Is there something wrong with the board or is it my browser? Have people replied to my post and not the original post?
On further thinking to my post above-unless line 6/Tyler will do me a signature version with full analogue pickups and a 13 pin out i'm gonna opt out, gut a korean and build me a monster
This is gonna be a few years in the making though and no disrespect to the line 6/tyler collaboration they look awsome!- Report Abuse

Hi - I will answer this majority of this question as I am a Vetta user and already asked similar questions last year and got the answers.
Yes it IS possible to connect ANY Vax using the VDI cable AND connct ANY 1/4" guitar into the 1/4" jack at the same time which is great when using more than one guitar as long as one of them is using the Vax VDI connection. This much I know for a fact as I use this operational option in many of my live gigs. Either I set up Vax up in 1/4" jack mode using the acoustic sounds mounted on a walk-behind stand I made to go with my bass pedals underneath a chopped up tubular keyboard stand to mount both the FBV Longboard for the Vetta and a walk behind stand as well as one of my microphone stands.
Here's a photo to demonstrate what I'm trying to describe...
Supposedly with the new JTV the Pup signal travels WITH the Vaxtronics signal through the VDI Cable and should work with the Vetta, but I'm not 100% certain of this, but it has been stated officially that you CAN get both signals through the VDI cable using some of the new POD Pedalboard Modelers, plus with some of those pieces of gear and hopefully with the Vetta, you can separate and run both at the same time the Pup signal into one of the signal paths while the Vaxtronics signal can be routed to another path available.
I presume this part - I presume that if some of the newest POD pedalboards and other new POD gear, or POD Farm 2.0 software that can model two independent amps at the same time, the Vetta should be able to accommodate the same abilities since the Vetta models two amps at a time. The only thing I'm not 100% certain about is if the Vetta is able to do this. Since even though it models two amps at the same time and each amp has it's own on off, EQ and a few other independent bits. It still does have ONE grand single path.
For example - if I want chorus on one amp and delay on another - no problem, but I can not have one type of chorus & delay on one amp while having a different chorus and delay on the other amp. This means that there are not two totally independent signal paths, so I do not know if this disqualifies the Vetta from working with pups in one amp and Vaxtronics in the other all through the VDI cable only.
I hope this helps.
Take care,
Neal
PS - I hope to get one of the new JTV model 59's as soon as possible so I can learn and answer questions like this with 100% accuracy instead of making suppositions on certain function aspects.

This is gonna be a few years in the making though and no disrespect to the line 6/tyler collaboration they look awsome!I've just replied to your previuos post asking about using both the VDI and 1/4" cables. Please read my previous for those answers.
The 100% correct answer to this is the guitars are already well into production and no further physical changes are going to take place until perhaps the next model gets put up on a drawing board. Sorry to say that you will not be able to get a signature version of anything from Line 6 with a 13 pin out. I would GUESS that due to any possible conflicts of interest that you would not be able to go directly to James Tyler to create you one of these guitars he designed with any features not currently listed as available with any of the three JTV models either USA or Korean. Which only leaves your last remark as the option you will most likely have to go with. Buy a Korean model, then have whatever additional functions you want added.
But then again if gutting a Korean is gonna take you a "few years", you might consider waiting to 1) see the remarks about the JTV's that are coming out now and see if you might just get an add-on Roland MIDI pickup and use that through the 1/4" out into a Vetta while using the VDI for everything the JTV can do through the VDI cable into a Vetta simultaneously. 2) do not wait and do like you already stated, but keep your fingers crossed that Line 6 does not come out with a guitar like the one you are asking for be the time you spent buying and gutting a Korean JTV series 1.
Just MY opinion only in the second paragraph, but I do think what I wrote makes excellent sense based on your posting. Take care.

Neal,
I too play a Vetta. I do not believe that the split signal is going to work on the Vetta the same way it will on the X3L/X3P. The split signal on the Vetta works in a different way than the X3 series. Rich mentioned something about this (though I think he was speculating too), but I will be damned if I can remember where. I will be THRILLED if it does work, but I suspect it would take a firmware update to the Vetta to make it work (and the firmware is of course not being updated anymore).

The replies have now appeared a day later! Apologies for any typo's in this post as i am now officially drunk! jimfogle kinda hit the nail on the head! This '2nd issue variax' answers quite a few things that line6 entusiast's seek in the quest for tone!
With the Vetta and Variax Line6 gave me versitility, I could get any sound i wanted, I needed to tweak, it wasn't perfect at first but once I got my head around what was going on the combination became a part of me-like i could get the sound i had in my head pretty much every time! I got completly free updates for both and in doing so i stupidly lost my presets but built better ones (user fault+evolution) The only down fall of this is the 'out of box' thinking that it can inspire- you find your self playing and seeking the ultimate tone- to be honest if you have a boutique amp you love and love that sound alone then go for it! What I'm getting at is that what line6 are doing is getting as near as damn to the most popular sought after sounds and giving the end user the capability to use these and tailor them to their style.
I myself have worked in music shops for a long time and remember the ax2 original pod and flextones-they went like hot cakes, poeple didn't really yearn for that special sound more appreciate the fact that they had a pallate to work with and could create a huge amount of sounds-sounds like this cost me £0000's to create but were avalible in a freakin kidney bean shape outboard! I heard these guys had something to do with the old alesis! It kinda made sense!
Skip to a few years later and a rep comes in to the shop with a new catalogue! Gave it a once over and left it to one side, weeks pass and i read about this 'Vetta' and what it has/does ect ect I'm currently taking a 10U rack loaded with jmp1 rocktron art boss digitech and i think a lexicon reverb with marshall and peavey class A vlave amps- nearly £300 every 6 months for new power valves alone and heavy as sin! I order a Vetta and sell some old gear to pay for it! I haven't had one single grumble about the Vetta or the Variax because i bought them in the knowledge that they were 'modelled on' various existing equipment or were infact line6's own creation. Playing my Variax and traditional guitars gave me a conflict of interest and even now in the studio i find myself going for my old trusty electric's over my Variax but live I use the variax religiously, things have died off in the last few years the 'band grew up/out of each other studio/session work overtook rehearsals and gigs dramatically and i always grabbed the standard lp/strat/sg what ever i thought seemed fit using the Variax in about 30% max of all recordings but still looking at it knowing i've got a hell load of power to do some damage.
My personal favourite guitar was a wierd custom ish job strat/sg looker with hum hum single config it had a trem but i blocked it off for tuning stability and the p/ups were coil tapped if you pushed the tone (yamaha sg ish?) i think this got destroyed at a gig where i got knocked unconcious and have a scar above my left eye reminding me never to drink a bottle of jack daniels before going on stage again!
If i could get somewhere near to that in a standard guitar and feed that alone to the old rack adding a looper, have a variax 2/tyler/ electronics going to the vetta and synth/midi triggering capabilities which i now get from a sonuus g2m (£75) (monophonic midi) I have my ultimate quest in tone and if adrian belew can have a custom parker fly with variax and midi and analogue for something near $10,000 or is it more? Adrian Brearey can have a line6 guitar with all the above and make it cheaper than the parker and better!
No one company will be able to cater for everyone's needs there are always people who strive for more/have a certain thing that they want or are just so outrageous that what they want isnt even thought of yet companies will get on board to new ideas if they have been proven as popular/ economicaly sound- who would pay $10000+ for a custom variax body built to shape/spec within reason variax guts full magnetic analogue pickups+variax tyler routing of electronics and a midi out/13 pin I bet if you took pre orders and got more than 400 people upfront you would be on to a winner-big time!
Which is what brings me agiain to the out of box thinking think not what you can do for your guitar but what you guitar can do for you!
Peace out line6ers!
Sorry for the drunken rant!

P.S. Merlin i want to split just the variax to my vetta and have the analoge/mags totally seperate to a completly seperate amp/setup. I think maybe we got our wires crossed somewhere!

Without hope, what do we have left? :-) One last run at the Vetta bugs and this addition would be probably the greatest announcement in my Line 6 years (a small announcement but a very important one to me).

Hello,
I have ordered a new JTV-69 and I am very excited. I do have a question though. My question is will it work with my POD XTLive just as my VAX 500 does now? Does it have a digital cable to the pedal from the guitar as I have now as well as a 1/4" jack? Will my POD XT Live power the guitar?
Thanks for your time....

From what I remember Rich answering previously...
The XTL will save the Variax bank as it does now allowing guitar changes with patch changes. The big difference with the X3L and XTL is that the XTL will not do the tone split.
The JTV does have jacks for a VDI cable and a 1/4" cable.
The XTL will power the guitar (i.e. you can run the XTL/JTV with no battery connected when connected over VDI). However, the XTL will not recharge the battery if it is plugged in. Only the actual recharger will do that.

Sure can - I've used two brands over the decades. Gracie was one of the first ones made and is VERY solid, heavy duty and it ALWAYS comes with a modified double leg braced drum cymbal stand and the metal guitar holder attachment specifically for certain types of guitars. You MUST choose which model fits the guitar body style you wish to have in the stand and if you use more than one type of body style, like an LP, Strat electric,or a solid body conventional bass, or perhaps either a flat or round back acoustic guitar. Each sells for about $200.00 new. The other which is shown in my photo is JUST the guitar attachment brand known as MBrace. The MBrace (as far as I am currently aware) is ONLY available for solid body guitar and basses AND it is universal needing only to have either additonal sets of straps, or take the time to adjust them for each type of guitar/bass you wish to support. It's just a plastic back with adjustable guitar strap ends on each side that YOU have to screw onto a very heavy base or triple legged mike stand. The price for the MBrace is about $85.00. It may sound flimsy, but it is not as long as you do not ause it and have it set up properly following the directions for whatever guitar you wish to mount.
If you do not have a similar setup as I do where I'm using a clamp to hold the mic stand onto a very steady and weighed down keyboard stand with the Vetta Longboard sitting on top - I would recommend you get the Gracie brand for the extra money. Otherwise if you have your own way of making the base the MBrace screws onto and the guitar sits at the proper angle for your perfomance, then save the money and go with the MBrace.
Here is a link to one retail site selling the MBrace. The Gracie stand is also easy to find by just doing a search of "Gracie walk behind guitar stand" It will pop up in the first few links every time.

Hope this helps,
Neal
