Windows 7 64bit

Hi,
I just recently installed Windows 7 64bit operating system, this is final retail version.
I have POD XT live and Pod farm, etc and I installed the POD XT live drivers and Line 6 Monkey. However, whenever I play back an audio, it has a crackling sound.
I don't know why this is happening. I also browsed the forum and tried some of the suggested work arounds but this issue isn't resolved.
Can you please tell me what I should do to resolve this crackling sound?
Also the LIne 6 Monkey doesn't show anything listed all under Updates. I installed the Line 6 Monkey 64bit version that is supposed to be compatible for Vista 64bit but that
didn't make any difference and the crackling sound is still there.
Thank you for your help.

The answer is simple. Use an operating system that the software supports. I just checked the system requirements for the Line 6 Software and it doesn't list Windoze 7 as a supported OS.
If Vista compatibility mode doesn't work then there must be something wrong with Vista compatibility in the OS because the software does actually work using Vista.
Cheers,
Crusty
Or just go back to 1.26 until Line 6 officially supports Windows 7. It's working fine for me on Windows 7 32 bit. I was just checking back to see if Windows 7 was officially supported yet, but don't see it if it is.

Hello,
We're not supporting Windows 7 yet but we do have plans to. Please keep checking back with us.

This is the only piece of hardware I still can't run in my 64-bit Win7 box. Please make sure you support x64!
I hadn't thought about 64-bit, but that's going to be a problem for me too. I'm planning on buying a new machine when Windows 7 is officially available, but now I need to think about what to do until Line 6 supports 64-bit. I've been running Windows 7 on all of my machines and I love it, but they have all been 32 bit so far. Windows 7 isn't another Vista, or XP for that matter.
Thank you all for your replies and comments. Until Line 6 updates a new driver for Windows 7 64bit platform, my POD XT Live will have to sit idle since it's connected
to my PC and that's the only way I can use it. Too bad, hopefully Line 6 will resolve this issue ASAP.
is there any update on the windows7 64bit driver situation yet?
i've had to install 32bit for now and am literally waiting solely on driver from you guys before switching to 64bit.
Same boat here with a UX2 (doorstop until 64bit driver is available).
I need drivers for my windows 7 64- bit! NOW!
Same here need Windows 7 64 bit drivers monkey dosent even work with out into xp mode
ME TOO.

Interesting information. How long are you aware that a Windows 7 system will be on the market? I guess at least 12 months. Since that you still sold i.e. Tone Port Gx with gearbox not informing buyers that you will not support the new windows 7 when it is available. Your comment that you "do have plans to" support win7 and not even inform about a release date is a kick in the a.. of the buyers, Sorry, but this attitude is totally unaccepptable. Fortunately many competitors are available and I hope that customers realize what you do to them.
Best regards

Hats off to the folks at Line 6 for not seening the Win7 revolution. Did Line 6 not get the memo from Microsoft? Thanks A-bunch.

This has been a strange trend with many sound equipment providers. I began using a Behringer Podcast setup with an FC202 firewire interface, and they refused x64 drivers to their customers. Even when Vista came out, 32-bit was all we got. Then I purchased an M-Audio Pro Tools KeyStudio in December. They also did not have Windows 7 drivers for it at the time, though they may have released them now and were similarly tardy with Windows 7 32-/64-bit drivers.
Despite those scenarios, I am surprised that Line6 of all companies did not jump on the bandwagon much earlier, given their innovative nature. This is the first real viable year for 64-bit, which is becoming a standard for new PC systems. Drivers should also follow suit. Sound card manufacturers, video card manufacturers, printers, scanners, all manner of peripherals such as Wacom tablets and gamepads, things that don't need 64-bit yet have drivers for them nonetheless. Our music and sound production benefits greatly from the increased data handling rates that such a memory-intensive undertaking requires. I am also a game designer who has switched to 64-bit, and everything else I need has made the switch but the sound stuff, somewhat hamstringing my project. Here's to hoping it will happen VERY soon.
Thanks for reading.
honestly, I'm getting heavily turned off. I keep coming back to Line6 looking for my 64 bit drivers and zilch. I have switched just about everything on my new DAW to Win 7 64 , most of my other vendors have either 64 bit or they make their 32 bit work, but Line6 just seems to have totally blown this off. I'm just about ready to eBay my toneport and cut my losses on the money dropped on the Gold pak. Maybe I'll finally try Revalver out, it doesn't have the nice graphics and fx but the amps sound ultra real.
AHhhhhhhh!!!I need Gearbox for my windows 7 64- bit! ![]()
i'm running my UX2 ok in 64bit windows 7 at the mo, with gearbox 3.70 and the beta drivers.
The only thing to go around the Line 6 Windows 7 support problem is; to run Windows 7 in XP mode.
This is how it works: (only for Windows 7 professional/Enterprise/Ultimate) Not for Basic or HomePremium
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx and read install instructions. You need two applications to be installed on your computer. Windows XP mode application and Virtual PC.
First install Windows XP mode, then Virtual PC. After installation first run Windows XP mode, and a virtual PC will be created automatically.
Now, go to the Line6 download page and download and install WinXP software for your PODXT. (driver, monkey and edit) Install drivers before connecting the PODXT device. You may also work with the Windows 7 driver for the PODXT, but I am not sure if it works. I choose to install the WinXP version seperately.
Once installed, connect the PODXT device and check the top of the screen. There is a menu called "USB" click on unknown device and connect.
You might run into troubles with the Java application, as there is probably non or the version that comes with the Line6 edit does not install properly.
To solve this download Java 1.5.0. http://download.oldapps.com/Java/sun%20java%20version%205.0.exe (note that this is a direct link to the download)
Now start monkey or edit, and you will see all functions are working. To run the app directly in a (semi) Windows 7 environment. Go to the start menu, check under Virtual PC then Windows mode and look for the line 6 program. Copy this to your desktop as a shortcut. You do not need to start Windows XP mode anymore when you double click this short cut.
Hope this will help you as long as the Line 6 edit and monkey is not fully compatible with Windows 7.
Note that running Virtual PC is a bit CPU power consuming, so best is to keep the environment clean from any non critical software. I only installed Java and Microsoft Essential virusscanner, that's all and choose windows standard interface to save processing power..
Slashhead,
Thanks for the link to Sun Java Environment.
Since my PODxt was woefully out of date, I had to use M-Audio Fast Pro with MIDI cables to go between the PODxt and HP PC 64-bit Windows 7 Home Edition.
With everything in XPsp2 Compatibility mode, MonkeyUSB/Drivers/Flash could be updated and Line 6 Edit V2.02 worked!
While this is a bypass until a Windows 7 Gearbox driver/patch is provided, Line 6 Edit works very well to save, load, transfer, and edit bundles.
By the way, the key to making Windows 7 Home Version work with Line 6 Edit 2 is running your Sun Java Environment in XPsp2 mode.
Once the USB and Flash were updated (i used the Flash file downloaded and Update from File option), the MIDI connection via M-Audio was not required.
All this was done on dialup at 46.6 kbps.
To confirm other owners reports, PODxt and Gearbox work fine on my HP Mini Notebook Windows 7 Home Edition 32-bit machine, but large flat screen monitor is necessary for full view of Gearbox.
My Pocket POD is working fine in XPsp2 mode on 64 & 32 bit Windows 7 Home Editions.
As a former IT Leader responsible for multi-project development and deployment of multiple CAD software systems, I am also disappointed in Line 6 for missing a critical 64-bit deployment. We were talking 64-bit compatibility schemes in SW development nearly a decade ago.
This is a clear example--IMHO--of a hardware marketing versus software maintenance failure. It's the kind of thing Bill Gates would do...that's as harsh as I can be on a public forum.
G'day all,
I'm running Windows 7 RTM x64 Ultimate Edition with a Line 6 pod X3L. The system is a Core i7, 6GB, 2xBarracuda 1TB (data), 1xCaviar Black 1TB (system), no other soundcards attached (for testing purposes), POD X3L connected directly to Fostex PM series powered monitors via direct/studio XLR outputs (a bit quiet compared to a guitar amp stack - I have to set the X3L master volume to maximum, but the tone is fine).
So far (as of 12/11/09), I have found that:
- Line 6 monkey seems to works ok (in compatibility mode). It has recognised the registered POD X3L device, communicated with Line 6 servers, and I have successfully upgraded the unit's flash memory.
- Gearbox (v3.70) works as a stand alone program to send/receive tones from the device and edit/save patches etc. I have been able to download patches from customtone and save them to the X3L using Gearbox. I'm also able to create my own patches in Gearbox and save the entire bundle to HDD. However, I have not been able to get Gearbox to work as a VST plugin within Reaper (v3.14 x64) (note - Reaper is capable of bridging x86 to x64). The Gearbox GUI opens as a VST window but says that it is not authorised and instructs me to click on a Line 6 Monkey button (bottom-right corner) to authorize. But clicking on this button brings up an error message saying that Line 6 monkey is not installed; then Reaper crashes. I'll try it again tonight with a 32-bit version of Reaper to see if that makes any difference.
- Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition (demo version) seems ok - I haven't used it much so can't say if all features work, But I was able to record a few cool riffs with drums etc and line them up into a basic song.
- POD farm (v1.11) doesn't seem to work. I have tried running in Vista and XP compatibility mode. When it loads, it says that it cannot detect a device attached, then presents a list of devices to choose from - however the POD X3L is not in this list. The program still opens, and I can edit the signal path and look at all the pretty pictures of amps and pedals, but at the bottom it says that there is no authorised device attached (or something like that). Hopefully this will be fixed with Line 6's Windows 7 x64 updates.
I have installed a virtual machine running Windows XP, initially to get my soundcards (Presonus Firebox, M-Audio 410) working with Nuendo v4 . However, running the DAW inside a virtual machine, defeats the whole point of upgrading to a powerful new computer. So instead, I bought the Line 6 X3L to use as my soundcard (with the benefit of some cool extra tones and utility for gigging), and switched to Reaper for my DAW. As Slashhead described above, the virtual XP mode will work for the Line 6 devices, but if you want to use them with your full DAW setup then you are compromising your PC's processing power and memory.
Hopefully when Line 6 release their Windows 7 drivers all of these issues will be fixed. Meanwhile, I can still record the Line 6 tones into Reaper, I just can't use the Line 6 VST plugins (i.e. for re-amping dry signals). If anyone has found a way to do this, without using the virtual XP workaround, please let us know.
Enjoying the new toy so far :-) Thanks Line 6!!

thanks for the in depth repot it falls very much in line with what I have found also the no auth product ect im told is somthing to do with items that have an onboard chip of some kind
think we have to wait for dedicated drivers but i think it may be sometime
Yes that is really true! Yesterday I buy Line6 POD Studio GX and now I read that it doesn't work with windows 7! I want to buy a new PC (windows7) in the near future! And there is no information when an udate/a driver will be aviable.
Greetings Michael
Totally Unacceptable....M very disappointed in Line 6, first it was having an expression pedal input, that dosent support an expression pedal in Pod farm, only in gearbox can it be used, at least when I last checked. Now Windows 7 ??????? So Cakewalk, can revamp a Complete Daw to be compatible and you guys cant do a plug-in????? Your dropping the ball bigtime here!!!!!!!! The quality is there for sure, you have a great product, but this is negligent.......Will check and see if the expression pedal in POD FARM has been resolved... If it has'nt, I definatley wont be holding my breathe for Windows 7 compatibilty.... What a shame......!

I need this asap as well. What's the hold up ? Win7 64 has been in candidate release form for over a year. It was officially released in October i.e. there was a target date to plan for ? What happened ?
I bet if it weren't for the use of the dongle in disguise as a audio interface we could have had a stable 32 bit plugin that we could at least JBridge.
@ line 6, i use a lot of line 6 things and my ux2 wich is c onnected to my powerspeakers is completely dead in windows 7 x64. that''s very disturbing. can i have a refund on my ux2? i'm going firewire....
Guys it is being worked on
http://line6.com/community/groups/windows-7-public-beta-group?view=overview
this is the best you will get at the moment ![]()
Gentlemen, MONTHS after the first bunch of complaints rolled in this still isn't fixed? Let alone after how many months you knew Win7 would come in 64bit?
Don't risk your otherwise excellent reputation, you may not wanna go there. I can't believe I still can't run my interface in Win7.
utterly irritated
D
confused, this not saying a thing about 64 bit , so can it be ? It is still not being worked on ?
Now it seems we're going backwards. Line 6 Monkey asked this weekend if he could update my 32 bit Windows 7 drivers, and the POD X3 Live firmware to v2.0. Not thinking, I said "sure" and then tried to record some vocals using the mic input. I got the Blue Screen of Death three times before I gave up, and the Line 6 driver was listed right there on the blue screen. I've never seen Windows 7 bluescreen, but Line 6 is making it do it. Very sad to see.
THis is LAME! How can they put out Win 7 drivers finally and ignore Line 6 Edit!?! My XT is screwed without it...what a sad joke this is...
So we're in for round 2.
After Bog knows how long of unnecessarily wasted time the Win7 drivers are unleashed, the beta group is dispersed and everything is well in Fairyland again.
They work fine for a couple of weeks and now, when I ask Toneport to do something a bit more complex than provide awful amp sims, it's freezing and/or crashing my system like the earlier beta drivers did. It never ends.
I'm broke, but I may have to choose to go into debt merely to buy a soundcard that works to contemporary standards and spend some quality time smashing my Toneport to bits.
What a lame joke this process has been.
This is madness !
Surely there must be 64bit drivers support planned for the line 6 pro xt ?
Can anyone confirm if its planned or in a beta stage or if they have no plans at all to have 64bit Windows 7 support.
Mark
