100 % CPU Usage with GB 3.72 and Windows 7

I´m trying to run GB on a brand new HP computer with Win7.

The computer meets all requirements for the software.

When running GB 3.72 with my UX2 connected, the CPU usage is immediately 100% and there is no way to run any recording software.

When disconnecting the UX2 the CPU usage drops down to normal, app 2-5%.

What shall I do?

Im been running GB 3.70 on a similar computer with no problems for a long time. CPU usage appr. 20%

Is it possible to install 3.70 on a Win 7 computer? Would that solve the problem?

Regards

/Peter

    Hi,

This was actually a bug with Gearbox that should be fixed with the latest driver update.

      http://line6.com/software/

      Latest gearbox version is 3.72

If the problem still persists go to:

      Start>Programs>Line 6> Line 6 Audio Midi Devices

Once the control panel is open close it and see if the CPU usage drops.

      Thanks, I hope this helps.

        Hi,

I have the same problem, latest drivers installed, problem persists... I  found a workaround somwhere here (but I can't seem to find it again, so I'll give it to you in my own words): start gearbox, go to "help", "update & configure with line6 monkey", close line6 monkey again and preformance returns to normal. Works for me, but you have to do it every time you run gearbox, which makes it not very elegant a solution.

        Hope this helps.

This is my fourth or fifth reply on this subject.

Yes, Gearbox's memory usage goes down after running the Monkey...but THE TUNER DOESN'T WORK!!!!

Can someone from Line6 verify that this issue is being looked at. Please.

            Thanks,

            Jay

Re: RE: 100 % CPU Usage with GB 3.72 and Windows 7

            Hi Fokker50pilot,

Similar issue here on XP SP3 with a toneport ux2:

when running gearbox cpu maxes out at 100%, leaving my laptop useless. Most of it's capacity is taken by the kernel which tells me it's caused by a buggy driver (task manager -> open performance tab -> (menu)view -> select 'show kernel times').

I installed the latest driver version, did not help. Then i downloaded and installed an older driver version, v3.4.3.8: problem solved. Cpu came down from 100% to 30% (on a Pentium M 2 Ghz, 4-year old Lenovo Z60m).

It appears you're stuck if you're using Windows 7. Line 6 doesn't offer driver versions older than 4.x.x for W7.

However note that Pod Farm did work on my machine in combination with driver 4.1.1.7, If it also works on your machine you could use it instead. Myself i prefer Gearbox to Pod farm as i run on an older laptop and pod farm needs more resources.

old configuration: gearbox does not work. pod farm does.

            Driver version: 4.1.1.7

            Gearbox version: 3.72

            Pod Farm version: 1.12

'new' configuration: gearbox works, pod farm seems to work as well (did not test pod farm extensively, just started it plugged in my guitar and tried a single amp)

            Drive version: 3.4.3.8

            Gearbox version: 3.72

            Pod Farm version: 1.12

Cheers & happy playing for 2011

Re: 100 % CPU Usage with GB 3.72 and Windows 7

I had to go all the way down to V3.64.

Running Windows 7 64 on Toshiba Satellite (L555), 3GB RAM, w/ intel Centrino dual core.

Both cores were running at 100% with the newer versions.

To download, you'll have to select Windows XP.

When the install is done, you may get an error saying the program didn't install correctly, just tell it that everything is fine.

Before running Gearbox, right click the icon, go to properties, and click the tab that says "Compatability"

Than selct the checkbox that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows XP service pack 3 in the pulldown menu.

Since I have done that, the average CPU load has been only 5%, and it seems to be very stable.

We do have engineers actively working on this however, they have not provided us with an ETA in regards to the release.

Re: 100 % CPU Usage with GB 3.72 and Windows 7

Is there a more general problem with the Line 6 driver?

I currently am having a CPU utilization issue using the Line 6 Pod X3 Live via USB with 1 track using Jamstix (VSTi) and 3 tracks with Pod Farm 2 plugin. My driver is the version mentioned in this forum thread: 4.1.1.7, and I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit.

I know the Original Poster is talking about GearBox, but I'm seeing excessive CPU usage (IMO) with Pod Farm 2. Currently my CPU usage using Reaper is around 70-80% (according to Windows Task Manager), and that's while I'm typing this and Reaper sits there doing absolutely nothing.

Enabling/disabling the Jamstix FX in Reaper has no noticable effect on the CPU utilization. Disabling Pod Farm 2 on each track drops the CPU usage by 25% or so until it is basically nothing (roughly 2%).

      Environment Specs:

      Reaper: 3.76 rev c31a32

      Line 6 POD X3 Live

      Driver: 4.1.1.7

      USB Firmware: 1.02

      Flash Memory: 2.01

      Line 6 Monkey: 1.35

      Pod Farm 2: 2.02

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

      Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16 GHz

      4 GB RAM

Re: 100 % CPU Usage with GB 3.72 and Windows 7

Thanks for leeoking into this problem, Line 6 guys! I, too, suddenly, in mid-use of Gearbox for my TonePort UX2, had my CPU max out at 100%. I had been using it to record  for a few hours, (and have used it for years before with no problem!) when all of a sudden, using Task Manager, I could see my CPU usage was at 100%, and could not record any more. Now, every time I start up Gearbox, the CPU instantly clocks to 100%. I will try staring up Line 6 Monkey, then closing it, and see if that works as a temporary fix. (Thanks to everyone who posted about this solution!) I had updated my Gearbox drivers a month or two before. I guess that's what did it. What is weird, the CPU monitor in Gearbox itself does not show any CPU usage. Thanks for working on this problem. I know you guys will fix it, and let us all know about the solution! -Kelly

Re: 100 % CPU Usage with GB 3.72 and Windows 7

Mine is working fine, but since I read about the 100% CPU ...well...

Having my GearBox open, the CPU was slamming 100%.

Fix: temp (I have to do this everytime I open Gearbox )

double click-> Line Monkey desktop icon

    wait....

once Line Monkey pop-up is seen I press "quit" and the CPU usage goes to 25% to 35%

*I have tried the selecting XP approach and no luck yet...

    great input though

I am running WIndows 7 32bit version on a old Compaq Presario AMD 64 with a blackface UX2
