hi all and a happy new year to you all.
I'm just starting out trying to set up a bedroom studio and could do with a little help. I have my laptop, a pod x3 and a keystation 88es midi controller keyboard. I am looking a getting a pair of studio monitor speakers(active) in the near future. My problem is I have no idea how to connect these things together the right way and do I need to purchase anything else to make these all work together. If anybody can, help I will be eternally grateful.
Kind Regards.
Do you have a recording program installed on your laptop? Connect your usb out from x3live to usb on laptop. What type of monitors do you have? You could connect those to the outputs on the x3live. You could also possibly connect the monitors to the headphone output on the laptop. You may need some adaptors to make connections. More info from you would be helpful. make and model of laptop. OS info. Monitor info and so on.
Just a side note. If you arent sure what a recording program is then I suggest google. Look up DAW (digital audio workstation) there's some free ones on the net. Do you have line 6 gearbox installed? Line6 monkey? (for d/l Line6 updates and such). I also see you said X3 and not X3live. My bad. You can use X3 as your soundcard and connect monitors to the outputs on it. It gets confusing thats for sure but do your homework and research and you'll catch on. Also trial and error seems to yield the best results, at least for myself. Good luck and I hope I shed some light for you.
Cheers mate, it's a big learning curve and I've a lot to learn, but with a little help from guys like you, I'll get there in the end. When I finally get it done, I'll post my setup detail for anybody else who may be struggling like me.
Many Tanks.
How are you doing with your home studio set up? When I first started, I found the book by Jeff Strong (Home Recording for Musicians) very helpful in articulating my goals, sorting out issues, avoiding buiying mistakes, etc.

Hi, I'm not doing too bad thanks. After a lot of trawling on a few forums, and a few stressful moments, I've managed to get it sorted. Bought the cheap version of Reaper, downloaded loads of free synths, along with a korg x5d, pod x3, korg padkontrol and a midi keyboard and am now realising it's not so easy getting your ideas recorded.
But, that's what it's all about. Have belief in what your doing and one day it will work out.....so they say.My wife keeps telling me to get my earphones on........don't think she appreciates good home music......ha ha.
Cheers.
Glad to hear you are progressing and you are quite correct, all of this recording stuff is not easy, specially if you are going for original material. BTW, although I have KRK monitors attached to my Toneport UX8, I end up spending a lot of my time with headphones on, thereby keeping the peace in the family and surprising them with a finished song now and then..... I recently got a pair of Sennheiser RS-180 wireless headphones. The sound is amazing and I don't end up tripping over cables and getting in the way of my guitar. Well worth the investment, specially if you can get an open box discounted pair. Cheers John N.
Bro, I also use a X3 as a sound card. i use M-audio BX5a Delux as my studio monitor. the BX5a comes with 2 TRS 1/4 jack. my question is where shud i connent the jacks in my X3? if i connect it in the left n right outputs will it sound mono/srereo???
Hi, I think it comes out stereo. I have my speakers( the same as yours) plugged into a behringer mixer(xenyx x1204usb) and my pod via usb into my pc. If you need any info that i may be able to help with, post again.
Thanx man for the information...............
