Tube comp, IMHO.  Very cool, warm sounding boost.  Good for cleans, too...

If you want more "hair" on the tone, I'd suggest either the Tube Screamer or the Tube Driver.

If you're looking for a thick, metal style lead boost, I like the L6 Drive.

    Cheers,

I really want to keep my tone ..... just boost it. Right now I'm using the Comp Boost and it works but just not enough oooomph sometimes. Is there something in the settings I'm missing to get MORE ?

        Thanks !

        Bill

Did you try the tube comp, rather than the comp boost?  It really can give a nice warm, clean boost (oomph?) to your signal.

    Hi,

I think the Screamer is good. Keep the drive setting low and crank the Output value to max. Set the Bass, Treble and Tone filter controls to taste (I typically leave them flat).

What is your rig and how would you describe the level your current tone is lacking?

You can always just duplicate the dirt setting you are currently using in the M13, except make the new one with more output, so when you switch to it for a solo it will sound the same just louder. This is assuming you are using a dirt patch to begin with.

Re: Whats the best lead boost in the M13 ?

I do what srspud said, except I use an expression pedal instead of a second effect box.  I have all my gain pedals in the same column and assigned an expression pedal to that column, I use it to increase the output and sometimes I also have it boost the gain a little.  The expression pedal I use is just a footswitch that I made with some parts I bought from pedalpartsplus.com after seeing a post on this board from someone else who made his own expression pedal.  He posted a pic of his and gave some good instructions on how to make it.  If you're interested I can look up the post, or send you pics of mine.  It's just a simple on/off style switch so you couldn't really use it for a wah or anything, but it works great if you're just looking for a boost.  In all I think the pedal parts ended up costing around $15 or so and it took about 20 mins to assemble.  You can get the parts at radio shack even, but I think their housings and switches are all plastic.  Mine is real solid.  Casing and switches look like an MXR type of pedal.  I love it.

    Not enough oomph?

The Tube Comp can make a quiet clean channel fat, loud, and ready to knock down a house.

For a lead, take the Echo Platter and turn the drive to max. Set the mix to 0 if you don't want the echo with it.

For me its the "Boost Comp", it gives the right amount of oomph with any drive pedal on my board.
