POD HD 500 failure -HELP, PLEASE!!!!

Hello there,

I'm using Windows XP, SP3, Intel quad core CPU, 4GB RAM.

During upgrading Flash to ver 1.10 of my brand new HD 500 (just opened the box!) through Monkey, I had a really bad messge (as you may see on tne attached pic): "POD HD 500 Update failed. (Code 80007211) Firmware update timed out waiting from response to the device. Try the update again, making sure the cables are still connected", and the display of the POD was struck with the upper line saying "FLASH UPDATING...".

I tried to retry the update through Monkey, but the message was ever the same and the device was still blocked.

After a search on Line6 site, I don't found advices, so I decided to power off the POD and power it on again to retry the update. After a two or three attempt (with POD display showing ever "FLASH UPDATING..."), the USB connection seemed to work and the update seems to go OK. But after a while the sound on the POD goes off, while the USB connection going on and off without any cause, but powering it off and on again, the device was working again...until, checking the presets from A01 going up (hey, the POD was brand new!), I come to 02C, and the sound goes off again and the POD was muted. I turn it off and on again and it works again, but when finally I struck the buttons and come to the evil patch "3A Brit J-800" the device made strange LOUD sci-fi noise, and then reset itself...and entered in an endless cycle: blank screen, Line6 logo, make soft a strange sound (P-R-Th'-Th'), shows for two second the preset screen with the signal flow and the name (3A Brit J-800), and soft reset...blank screen, Line6 logo, make soft a strange sound (P-R-Th'-Th'), shows for two second the preset screen with the signal flow and the name (3A Brit J-800), and soft reset...again and again and again...

I tried to start it in calibrating mode, and it works, the pedal calibrating procedure works, and so all the other voices, except for "buttons" in wich does not perform the test the expression pedal toe switch.

Switching on again the POD it re-enter in the same frustrating cycle, and nothing seems to work to force it to exit or make it change anything.

I upgraded from X3Live (wich work flawlessly, and ALWAYS upgraded wit the SAME Monkey as the HD500!), so I'm not a newbie from Line6 products, but this time I really don't know what I can do more to have my brand new HD500 working.

PLEASE HELP! ...I only listen to the first SEVEN presets!

    Hi

OK I have seen this more than once when updating the flash firmware from certain versions to certain new versions.  I don't know what version firmware came installed on your HD500.

It does seem perhaps to be related to a particular preset and what it might be is that the preset in the unit may no longer be compatible with the new update or the existing preset may have become corrupted for some reason - just guessing

Unplug all other USB devices from your computer and make sure you are not using any kind of USB hub, so if it's a desktop avoid the potential of a front-of-case internal hub by plugging into a rear USB 2.0 port

There are two ways which might help you resolve this particular issue and you might as well try them both at once:

1     Boot your HD500 into safe mode/test mode by holding down the right button on the 4 way controller as you power on

2     When the update process gets to the part where it asks if you want to keep your presets, select the option not to do this

If I'm right, the update should proceed properly and completely

    Regards

    Nick
