The tap tempo note value is fixed at 1/4 note in the HD400; it can't be changed.

Wow.  That seems odd.  The manual seems to suggest that it can be changed.

I'd love to find out it can be changed - can you point me to where the HD400 manual suggests that?

Re: HD400 Delay Tap Tempo (Dotted 8th)

          Hey silverhead-

I was looking at the Advanced Guide.

          Page 2.4 (briefly)

          Page 4.3

          and

          Ch. 8.

Now I may be way off since I've not used the 400 and have only been looking into getting a HD500 (upgrading from an X3L).

But as I read the manual, it suggests you:

Select your delay model.  Use the Nav Key to scroll to Tap Ctrl.  Select "Control."  Then navigate to "time/tempo."  Since the tap is set to "control", the "tempo" will show with a note and bpm.  Then the dial to change.

Again, this is just from reading the manual and note actually working with the unit.

By doing the above, does it just change the BPM while leaving a quarter note showing?  That would really suck when trying to get alternate tempo repeats on the fly.  Pain in the butt to tap in a .8th....

          Just trying to help!

Yes, unfortunately the tempo is fixed at 1/4 note taps. Whether you set the tempo using the footswitch, or set the bpm, the delay trails follow the 1/4 notes in terms of repetitions. That's what the manual means when it says:

If you stomp out your desired 1/4 note rhythm on the TAP footswitch, this will set a new Tap Tempo, and FX3 models will then follow this new BPM value.

Note that it specifies 1/4 note rhythm.

Yes - it can be changed on the 500. I don't know the details since I don't have a 500 - I believe you have to set it manually in the patch parameters. Look in the manual or search on this forum - I've seen threads about it.

Yep, on the HD500  you can select either a tap tempo interval or a fixed time interval.  The pic below shows both along with the list of available intervals.  Click on it to zoom in.  Same deal with the desktop and Pro.  First I have heard that it was limited on the 3/400.

I think its an intriguing limitation. Would have thought it was quite a noteable one, but I guess its lack of mention means it isnt being missed too much.

Anyway, for once I will go home, pick up the guitar, and have a little smile regarding a HD500 benefit I never knew I had (all due respect to the unfortunate 300 and 400 owners of course)

Re: HD400 Delay Tap Tempo (Dotted 8th)

It's a pretty dirty move to not have it in the 300 and 400 when previous pedals have had it. I just got my pedal in the mail yesterday (the 400) and when I found out there isn't even a dotted 8th tap delay on it.. Well. Seeing as there are multiple forums about it you get the point.

Will there be an update where they allow us to change the delay note?

If you have a look around you'll probably get the same impression as I, which is there is very little usually known about forthcoming updates. Indeed there is no explicit reason to believe there will be any more (but then I guess there is none to the contrary either).

My own view (guess) is that this limitation is an intended (though not massivley highlighted) product differentiator, in which case I'd say it was unlikely.

I tend  to doubt it at this stage BUT....

You can manually set they delay time (based on BPM) using a calculator like the one here: http://www.guitar9.com/delaytime.html

        It;s pretty simple.

Re: HD400 Delay Tap Tempo (Dotted 8th)

This seriously sucks. The specs for the two (400 v 500) really need to be more clear about this.

While I appreciate people trying to help with the solution of tapping it, then doing some math and setting it to make it really do what you want...that would be fine if it wasn't a $400 piece of stage hardware.

That's kind of hard to do between songs though.

        Epic fail, Line6.

Mine came in the mail Wednesday and I'm ******.

I'll be returning it on Monday.
