No Sound No Display on Vetta (8 LCD boxes on left display)

Hi,

I originally posted this http://line6.com/community/thread/20034 and back then as I mentioned amp worked perfectly at repair center, back then I thought it was a low voltage problem at my place and thats what I put in that last post.

First let me tell you I dont get to play everyday, but I sit down on weekends and record/play with Vetta, I just love this amp so its very hard for me to let it go.

A month ago my amp again stopped working, this is how it happened

  • I was playing my amp for maybe 15 minutes with same preset, FBV was not plugged in, amp volume was maybe at 2
  • I was on user bank and changed the preset, the new preset took about three seconds to load and it maybe played for less than a second and my amp went blank, none of the buttons were lit and both displays had only green background light on them.
  • I turned amp off/on and same thing, the only thing I noticed that amp was making a considerably loud "thud" noise even though volume was turned back to zero.

So I took my amp to Line6 service center again, this time Line6 authorized a different service center for repair, I plugged my amp in front of tech to verify problem still exists, he called me next day saying they cannot repair it cause this amp was service in past (before I bought it) and it was serviced in a way that they cant figure out the main problem, the only thing they can do is replace the board thats directly attached to the LCD and buttons on the amp besides that everything else in amp is working perfectly.

They also told me, Vetta is discontinued so Line6 cannot provide parts for it and they really cant do anything with it.

Yesterday I bought this amp home, very sad, was ready to throw in garbage and was already thinking how to save money to buy a replacement, this morning I plugged it in just to check for last time and AMP IS WORKING AGAIN....  whatttt??? I am losing my mind on this one, whats wrong with this??, the only thing that I am now noticing and maybe it was there all the time, is when I turn amp on now, it makes that "thud" sound regardless where my volume pot is.

Please can someone help me understand whats going on, I have MS in physics (from 20 years ago) and still remember a little electronics 101, I am actually worst than novice,

  • is that "thud" sound indicating there may still be a voltage issue inside the amp,
  • is my amp coming back alive cause I move it around, put it in car trunk and something's lose which I cant find?  I opened it several times and saw none of the cables lose, I didnt remove the main board under LCD and buttons maybe problem is around that section?

If this amp dies I dont know if I can settle for anything else, I had a Fender amp and Vox Tonelab SE when I bought Vetta, the idea was Vetta is loud and for jamming with band and playing live, Fender and Vox will be here at home for recording and practice, I honestly stopped playing Fender and Vox once I heard Vetta and those two are sitting in my closet for last 2+ years. I dont want to buy a used amp again and DT series is pretty expensive for me right now, and I dont think it offers "double tracker" my favorite Vetta  feature, can someone help with amp and suggestions for replacement?

Thanks

Sounds to me like there's a loose connection on your LCD board.

I would contact Line6 directly to verify they cannot provide a new LCD board because I had my Vetta II serviced last year and Line6 still had parts then.  Vetta I?  Well maybe not.  thorne

PS - My alternate rig is the Digitech GSP1101 rack-mount unit.  I believe it sounds better than the Vetta, but it's rack-mount so reduces overall portability.

    Hello,

You definitely have a hardware issue going on with your amp. Based on your experience so far with two service centers you should give us a call directly and get in touch with a service administrator.

It's true that certain parts for the Vetta are no longer available but I'm not certain what those parts are.

Please give us a call and see if there is anything our service department can do for you.

    Thank you for that information.

As soon as our inventory process is over and the system allows for RMA's we will write an rma for repair at Line6. Please be patient as this could take a couple weeks. As soon as we are back up i will promptly write your RMA.

      Thanks,

      Line6

I have the same problem on my second Vetta.

I bought a Vetta in 2004 and after less than a year both the screens stopped working and the sound locked.

I brought it to the authorized assistance in Rome (I'm Italian) and they didn't do anything for an entire year.

Then when I totally lost my patience they changed my amplifier and they gave me a new vetta.

I was really happy, I had my new vetta and I could start recording my songs editing my new sounds, but after

a year the new vetta had the same problem of the first amplifier, the screens became green and the sound locked

the only thing to do was to heavily hit the main screen but after one month of gig every night the screen was broken

I called the line6 assistance and they told me they couldn't do anything and they didn't have any spare parts.

At that point I decided to buy a new amp...but..honestly...how could I chose another line6 product?

I am really sad because I spent a lot of money for my amplifier and I recorded with sounds that are really difficult

to obtain with other analogical stuff...I've been punished for being an innovator in my country..

There are two things I don't understand

    1) Why did you build such a thecnological product without separating the processor from the lcd screen?

    2) Why is so difficult to obtain a spare part?
